[Q] Carrier Question - Galaxy Ace II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi There, please could someone help, My ace II is at the moment on stock JB , but rooted, with temporary CWM Recovery in zip file on ext sd card, ready to use, still on stock recovery for now, I have all downloads ready on PC. but I wish to know if I can install a custom rom, with my phone being locked to o2, or does it have to be sim free phone as I have been told.

Im pretty sure you can flash a custom rom on sim locked phone..

Yeah, it will also unbrand as a bonus, but lock data (and IMEI) are on the "CSPSA" partition which is never* flashed
(repartitioning between 2.x and 4.x appears to flash CSPSA, but for semi-obvious reasons and who knows what implementation it's not completely replaced)

[Q] Am I safe to flash a rom?

Hi this is my second post in like a few mins. Embarrassing but oh well xD. So I just wanted to ask how do I flash my first custom ROM? I have root and a unlocked bootloader. Phone is an Xperia Pro from fido and I do have CWM Recovery installed. Am I safe to flash a rom? I really need to know because my phone is out of warranty -.-
THANKS!!
If your phone is already rooted i think you can just flash roms yeah, be sure to make a backup before, if it doesnt work you can just restore the backups.

here's your checklist
1. rooted
2. have cwm
:highfive:
Short answer; yes.
Just make sure you backup your current Rom in case sth happens

Nothing is safer than flashing a Rom.There is just a thing you will lose all your data if you don't do a cwm backup and something goes wrong with flashing. But read a bit and you'll figure it out in no time.Good luck and welcome in the world of flashing and modding.

Wrong.
Continuously using fully stable and tweaked stock ROM is a lot more safer than flashing a new one.

Issues with Xperia S

Hi Everyone
I unlocked my bootloader a few months ago, rooted, and I flashed a version of ICS, which I think is stock. I dont have receovery installed, I tried to sort that out last night, but I got lost amongst and couldnt work out what to install and how.
Its 4.0.4 - 6.1.A.2.45 - and I am having a few issues with it. It seems to be laggy, the camera freezes when recording video and often crashes and doesn't save the video and the WIFI is just hopeless!
Does anyone know how to fix this? Is there a better .ftp for me to flash? Please leave links if possible because this issue is just driving me insane!
thanks!
Amanda
hi, try to locked your bootloader then repair via pc companion.
and also, for your other question click my signature "Read ME".
If it's unlocked the bootloader then fastboot a custom kernel. Advanced stock is great. Then flash a custom rom. May as I flash a Jellybean rom

I just installed ROM manager and found out clockwork recovery doesn't work for us why does everything have to be so hard with this phone?
Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk 2
Just have a look at the custom kernels and chose one then fast boot or use the flash tool, cwm works for us

The only problem with this is, you need to flash the doomkernal, which requires flashing back to GB? Then you need to install a host of other apps to get it too work. Just so I can flash a custom rom, wow, nothing is easy is it,
This phone is just so damned hard to do anything with, I am considering going to the new Samsung when it comes out in a few months!
No just flash advanced stock kernel instead from development forum. It's ridiculously easy once you're unlocked and have a cwm kernel flashed
Download a custom rom to the phone (i recommend pac rom)
Download advanced stock kernel to pc. Fastboot using that guide.
Then boot into recovery and install zip from sd and pick pac rom (follow the guidelines in pac rom thread for flashing)

[Q] No signal phone (always Airplane-mode) after CM install into ace 2

Two times, both in similar galaxy ace 2 "movistar Spain", I installed CM following the procedure, and two times after all well done, I couldn't get signal: The Airplane-mode appears. I clicked to off the plane-mode but after some seconds the Airplane-mode appears.
Is there something wrong? Have that kind of stock rom any blocking?
I don't know if is important, but when ussing odin to install "I8160XXLD8_ready_to_root_ANT.tar" one of the advise is "<0006> RQT_close"
any help?
Thanks in advance.
You have carrier so I think you need the carriers stock firmware to have signal or am I wrong?
The problem with the .tar file is that this is the file to root gingerbread but not jeally bean

a) That means it is only possible to upgrade to CM when the smartphone is free? Because the first time I tried was: unlock the carrier, install the GB stock rom without carrier, and install later on the CM. And also in that case there wasn't signal.
b) that .tar was for rooting, and install cmw. With this, I put the CM rom into the sdcard and install it.
Flash stock jb first before flashing cm...

[Q] Questions on stock 4.3

I've been searching and reading for last couple days and haven't been able to find a definite answer. I'm using note 2 i317 at&t with stock 4.3 out of the box. I've been able to root it and get past Knox successfully. My question is can I install a custom recovery using stock 4.3? I'm wanting to use xposed framework and I want to be able to make a backup and have recovery optons. I've heard it may not be possible on 4.3 due to possible locked bootloader and the Knox thing. Any help is appreciated.
Just flash your custom recovery using Odin...
The Knox bootloader is generation #1...and does not prevent the flashing of custom recoveries or kernel images. .
Edit:...custom recoveries will trip the Knox counter...and void the device warranty. ..
Once you have a custom recovery. ..you can create your full nandroid backup...
Then you'll be able to do anything you want with roms etc....g

Thanks I appreciate it. So if I do happen to get into trouble will I be able to just use my backup to restore things or use Odin to flash back to the stock 4.3 rom?

Not exactly. ..
Once you root...or flash a custom recovery. ..you will trip the Knox counter...(bootloader flag)
Effectively. ..that will void warranty...
However. ..This flag will not effect using your nandroid backup to restore the device if you should need it... (store that backup on your PC for safety)...
But if you don't care about warranty. ..then a revert to stock 4.3 is quite easy...minus the tripped bootloader flag....g

i'm on stock 4.3 with root access... yet ES file manager will not let me copy files to the system/app folder. Root checker says i have root access. terminal emulator shows # when i type su.
when i turn on root explorer in ES file manager - i get test failed. feature can not run on my device. any help?
Dont you need to change to read/write?
I have one more question on the 4.3 boot loader thing. Am I able to flash Roms that are based on an earlier android version like 4.2.2 since I am on official 4.3 boot loader? I was looking at flashing a ported miui v5 ROM but I'm pretty sure its 4.2 based.

when i check the properties of the System/app folder with ES file explorer... it says yes to both readable and writable.
Sry if I seem like I'm thread jacking but just wanted to clarify something. So with the AT&T note 2 on the stock ota 4.3 we can still install a custom recovery and flash custom roms and kernels or does it have to be 4.3 touchwiz based roms? If so can someone tell me the steps to do so?
The only reason I'm asking is I have both an att not 2 and a Verizon both on 4.3 and with the Verizon note 2 I had to use safestrap to flash a custom rom but can't flash kernels (so I'm not really new to flashing and all but new to the att scene and wanted to make sure bc I was told that with a locked bootloader I couldn't flash roms and a custom recovery and don't want to break my phone)
Thanks (also I only had an att note 2 is so I can get 4g lte on straight talk but I like having the note 3 features)
Again thanks for the help as of right now my att note 2 is a paper weight and if I can flash any custom rom on stock 4.3 it'd be great bc at least I wouldn't have wasted my money haha

I have the att note 2 and it came with stock 4.3 and I'm now running ezkat 4.4.2 with agni kernel. So yes you can run roms and kernels. Only thing I'm not 100% sure on is if you can downgrade to 4.2 or 4.1. Here is the link to the room I'm running. It's great and has a lot of note 3 features and some s5 features.

Here is a link that shows you step by step to root(this is how I did it) also you will probably need to do the tutorial at the bottom of the page for the Knox security. http://www.droidviews.com/root-att-galaxy-note-2-sgh-i317-on-android-4-3-ucubmk6-firmware/
And here is recovery I recommend http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2159652

I just used Odin and flashed phils cwm file. You can get it in either a flashable zip or and Odin flashable file. The bootloader not really locked from what I understand it just won't let you replace it with an earlier version. Basically no problems flashing roms and kernels and such. You just have to kill the Knox security deal with super su

Simply back up your apps with Titanium Backup, and put your contacts on your SIM card if you haven't already. Everything on the internal SD card isn't erased after a factory reset (in TWRP anyway, not sure about CWM), so you don't have to worry about pictures or stuff.
EDIT: I guess dual booting IS possible. I stand corrected.
Use the built in import/export function for contacts as well.
You can dual boot with a modified recovery...

Well dual booting is essentially what you described (which means the name is a bit misleasing), but it seems to only be possible on the international version from my research.
