Hi
I updated my xperia s to JB several months ago .. but the wireless didn't work unless I'm using airplane mode or when i remove the sim
i found a solution by replacing the wpa_supplicant file in system/bin with another one found in some forums in my country
the wifi worked without airplane mode but i can't connect to any network
i recovered the original file but now i have two problems : i can't turn on wireless without airplane mode - i can't connect to any network
any one can help plzzz?

when i replace wpa_supplicant, wifi seems doesnt work, i cant find any wifi network (ap or ad-hoc)
please help
I tried creating ad hoc wifi network in my laptop for my defy but failed. The phone did not detect the network. Then I installed connectify instead and it works faultlessly.
Is there any adhoc patch for defy?
*wrong post deleted*
I can connect defy with my laptop without installing any other software. But I'm not sure if it is a ad-hoc network. My laptop wifi driver provide a special ap mode and it can be used to share network.

Same here. I tried all the patches of wpa_supplicant given in this thread as well: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755254 but the wifi just can't search for any network and it turns off itself.
Another member "webvan" tried the above steps on his Milestone and failed(from the above thread).
Seems like Moto has a different hardware config.
FYI, I'm running 2.2.2 custom rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1037076)
What a tragedy.
It seems there's no such patch for Defy.
for me it worked with 3.4.2_177-005_NORDIC rom which i used for a very long time.
the problem is, you must manually connect to an ad-hoc network.
if you don't want to do that each time, you can install cyanogenmod by quarx and it will automatically connect to your saved ad-hoc network
Maybe you should try update to 2.2/2.3 based rom.
Fyi, i'm now at MIUI rom & got no problems with ad-hoc wifi network.
Dont forget to activate Internet Connection Sharing (for windows user), just to assure your device got IP Address automatically.
P.S Sorry for my bad english
Hi friends
Searched the forum and tried the proposed solutions but nothing helped.
I'm trying connect to addhoc wifi on my desire HD os=2.2
I replaced the wpa_supplicant file with one of those that exists on the forum and
indeed now i see adhoc networks but the connection is not stable - it goes like connecting -> obtaining ip address -> connected -> disconnected
and so on in loop ... i verified that the ip is static and i even put gateway+mask+dns.
when trying to ping the target it even sometimes succeeds!
Tried with several different adhoc targets and tried both wpa_supplicant for ver 0.5 & ver 0.6
Please does someone can help ?
thanks

My phone is samsung galaxy GT - I 5503. I do too and obtainging IP address...
This question not yet solved
I have the same issue with my sgs2. I get no connection ever, only a constant "Obtaining IP address.."
I'd suggest resetting your router and forgetting the network and trying to reconnect. Also a static IP might work but as for finding any of your provider's info, that's up to you. Unfortunately, XDA doesn't even recognize my network (Sasktel) so I am having a very tough time with this!
most probably firewall problem , i had same problem with hotspot doing exactly as you discribe.
it can also happen by some custom Roms and don't happen with others ( firewall disabled ) .
Also lot of sense Roms have an issue with that exact wifi problem , not like AOSP Roms ,i don't know why
I only had this problem with a network called; 'eduroam', my schools' network. I solved it by recotting & changing the network security TLS/TTLS/EAP or somethinf like that.
I downloaded the modified wpa_supplicant from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058319 for getting it to connect to ad-hoc networks but it isn't working. The WiFi is constantly turning on and off itself. I have tried restarting the phone but it's still doing it. What is wrong?
Hello everyone,
Thanks for the CosmicCM-4.4.4 V5.2 it is awesome!!.
I am facing few issues
1. whenever i use headphones to listen music my phone sticks in headphone mode. however rebooting solves issue.
i have checked and found following thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=566730 saying it may be hardware issue so i flashed
stock ROM back using ODin and issue is gone.
2. both sim works fine. but i am not able to import/view contact stored in sim2.
3. missing a feature wifi hotspot for allowed device only [not a problem but love to have it].
Thanks..
Update:
Issue is caused only after i run sprint fm radio.

2. SYNC all contacts to ur email a/c, then all are visible (short term solution)
3. not sure what u actually mean re: wifi hotspot...
to set up wifi hotspot
SETTINGS > MORE > TETHERING & PORTABLE HOTSPOTS > SET UP Wi-Fi HOTSPOT
missing a feature wifi hotspot for allowed device only
wifi for allowed device is a feature in which i can add some device to allowed list and configure wifi hotspot for allowed device only so that only allowed device in list can connect to wifi hotspot.
how it helps me!!
simple i don't have to type security key on other device.
e.g.
step1. start wifi hotspot in open mode and let other device scan and connect to it.
step2. add device to allowed list and change hotspot setting to allowed device (still it is open hotspot but other device will not be able to connect to it)
see attached image for more detail..

It's a proprietary feature of touchwiz.
Hi everyone,
I am stuck on a problem for some time now and still haven't figure out how to resolve it.
I would like to prevent my phone to automatically connect to a EAP-SIM Wifi network. I have enough data and there is a good network where I live. When I walk it switches to the wifi network near me and this is actually worse than the data network.
When I try to look the internet for this, all I found is people trying to enable this feature but nothing on how to unable it (or prevent it to connect to this specific network [FreeWifi_secure, a French mobile network provider]).
What I tried :
Remove ("Forget') the network => It reappear and reconnect every time
Disable my wifi when I'm outside => work, but then, I forgot to activate it back once home. Not the solution I'm looking for
Modify wpa_supplicant.conf (/data/misc/wifi/) and add "disable=1" to the network => the file is always rewritten by the system
Modify wpa_supplicant.conf (/data/misc/wifi/) with update_config=0 => Does not work, the file is always rewritten by the system
Modify wpa_supplicant.conf (/data/misc/wifi/) by commenting "#update_config=1" => Does not work, the file is always rewritten by the system
Change owner of wpa_supplicant.conf (/data/misc/wifi/) from "wifi.wifi" to "system.wifi" => Switched back to "wifi.wifi"
Remove the network from the wpa_supplicant.conf file => Comes back and connect to the wifi
My phone is a rooted Honor 5X (KIW-L21) with the stock rom (build KIW-L21C432B350). It is an Android 6.0.1.
Thank you for your help !
