I'm thinking of getting a GN and I have a few questions; your help and suggestions are most appreciative:
(1) Does the stock rom (4.1.1) support OTG mode?
(2) Can I use a usb hub to charge the phone and connect to a TV via mhl at the same time?
(3) I plan to root the GN. How might that affect OTA update? e.g. do I have to unroot it to get OTA? would OTA unroot the phone?
Thanks!
(edit: OTG seems to require root/custom ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1765143&highlight=otg)
Just bought a brand new Nexus 7 2013 from newegg with android 5.0. I'm assuming it has the latest firmware.. I'd like to root it (total newbie at this, btw) but don't wish to lose all the apps I installed. I downloaded Towelroot (v3?) from the author's site but it reports "This phone currently isn't supported" when I click on "make it ra1n" to root. I'm assuming this is because of the pre-installed android 5.0. My Nexus 7 new in the box didn't come with a USB data cable (or any cable for that matter) so rooting it manually or with another toolkit doesn't seem to be an option. Is there a workaround to root a Nexus 7 2013 with Android 5.0 with towelkit or at least without using a USB cable? TIA.

Towelroot is incompatible with Lollipop. It only works on devices with a kernel build date prior to July 2014.
If you do not have a cable, How are you even able to charge the thing?
Most techniques require a PC; however' you could always try using Kingroot.
It was designed for the Galaxy S6, but works with ANY 32-bit Android Device.
I will leave a link to the thread below.

Hope this helps.

Please ignore. I am a dumbass. I didn't realize that the USB data cable is part of the breakaway USB charger cable that plugs into the AC outlet in the wall. Yes, it was included with the nexus after all. Not a promising start in my Adventures in Rooting. haha. I decided I will attempt to use the Nexus Root Toolkit as described in your response to my problem in the other topic I started since I want this to be as painless as possible. Thanks for your reply.
Just bought a Nexus 5X and updated it to 7.0 Nougat. How can i flash recovery without PC? And can i root my phone without PC? Because there is no date transfer cable in my phone box.

Not, impossible to root without a computer. Buy a usb2/3.1-to-usb C cable. Bought the device second hand? If not contact the seller for a cable.
I bought a used Verizon LG G Pad 10.1 tablet. Factory reset and working great ... Just no root. Attempts at rooting with Kingroot and Towelroot etc... have failed. Apparently bootloader is locked ... (encrypted, but can reset if root exists)
I do not have access to PC or MAC to use ADB (with which I am familiar ... I converted an Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 to Android using Safestrap CM11 ROM and Kingroot via ADB) sadly Im desktop / laptop deficient at the moment.
Is root possible given this information? And, if so, could you please provide me with some much needed and greatly apreciated enlightenment?
Thank you in advance.
I am using nexus 7 2013 running android 6.0 and need some help on rooting it. Problem is that the micro USB port on the tablet is broken, so i cannot use any computer or usb cable to root the device. Currently i am using Qi for charging. I have tried many One-Click Root solution but none of them seems to work.\
How would i be able to root it?
