[Q] Extreme battery drain - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Hi community,
yesterday I got my new Nexus 7 32gb wifi.
It's an amazing device, but today I recognized a terrible problem with battery life.
My tablet is just laying around today, but the battery is draining really fast.
The system says that "Android OS" causes this, Better Battery Stats says something about "daemonsu".
Is this a kernel related problem?
More information:
ANDROID 4.4.2, rooted, ART is active
Hope you can help me :crying:

daemonsu is from SuperSU. Try reinstalling or updating the binaries. Also, check the SuperSU logs to see if there is an app that is constantly asking for root permission, causing the app to run all the time.

Thanks a lot
Works great, now the battery usage is amazing

[Q/ GSM version] Battery Drain due to Media Server

Hi all!
Recently, I updated my Galaxy Nexus to 4.1.1.
I found that the battery drains. Battery level went down 1% per minute.
I did not meet this problem when I was using 4.0.4
How should I fix this problem?
Thanks a lot

Hmm.. same here. Battery Life was better on ICS, that I agree. But JB is really awesome! Anyway, about your problem, I suggest making sure you kill your apps more frequently (Going into MultiTasking and just sliding them all away). This seemed to help me.
I have been trying to figure this out for days. I've read countless threads with no luck. I've got no mhaic , videos or pictures on my phone and its still using a lot of battery. Willing to offer bounty for a proper fix

Just the worst advice ever. You don't need to manage your tasks. If you've got an app misbehaving that's causing drain, you need to uninstall it and use something that's coded properly.

Well that's true. Sorry if I said it wrong. But yes, some apps are coded horribly like Facebook and cause terrible battery drain. So, just uninstall it.

Search the forums and download better battery stats - you can also purchase the paid version from the play store - Run that for a day or so and it will tell you what is eating your battery.
Also, some more information (screen captions, your 'average' use, ROM, Kernel, etc) could help this thread a bit as well.
If you have a rogue app that is causing drain, better battery stats will help you find it.
After I got a program which tests mp3 files and removed all which had errors the media scanning stopped going on forever and killing the battery. I don't know which program off hand but I bet there are several free pc apps to test mp3's online.

This does not kill apps. It merely removes them from the Recent Apps list. If you want to kill apps, you have to go to the Apps manager in settings and force stop. Or use apps that offer such functionality like Android System Info.

I also have this issue, but force stopping the medisscanner (or related apps) resolves it temporarily. I'll try the mp3 validation suggestion
Solving of Battery drain Issue
Please check on your device on app which using most of the battery. I used GSam Battery Monitor so that it will shown me the most usage of apps consuming the battery. Just tap on it, tap "manage" then tap on "Force stop".
This accually required on every charge, restart or playing / downloading a media files. Some people suggest clear data on media storage, however, it clear all your custom ringtone and others too. By doing Force stop, nothing will be affected....
Enjoy!!

Android System battery drain

Hi guys! i need help, i have a seriously battery drain problem with the process "Android System", it consumes more than the screen! i tried everything to fix it but nothing works, i'm using latest bubor's cm11 kitkat rom, somebody have an idea...? my battery lasts 5 hours max, will appreciate some help! thanks!
try bubor's last CM11, there is fix for battery drain.
New member, please elaborate!
I too am having this problem. Unfortunately, I am not a developer or an advanced user. I am good with doing what I know, but do not have any developing experience or education. I saw that Bubor's cm11 was recommended on this which is the exact problem I have, but I'm not sure what that even means. If you can help me, that would be great! Thanks!

My soloution
I am having battery problems too ,its kernel related, phone wake up too frequent and consumes battery..a way to fix it is with this app http://repo.xposed.info/module/org.t2k269.perapphacking with xposed installer installed.
You need to limit wakelock on apps that might wake your device it will give you some battery life.
Try greenify in google playstore. you can then define which app you want
to suspend.
Synchronization intervals can also be a problem!
Edit;
sorry i read again and you talk about android-system as the main process. That alone isn't enough to find out the root cause. You need to install an app like better battery stats or opg pro to find out the reason behind.
There you can see the apps causing so called "wakelocks". Those wakelocks prevents your device from sleeping which then causes high battery drain. So after you identified the app or apps use greenify to suspend them if you can (that means suspending a chat tool like whatsapp will prevent to receive messages until you start whatsapp manually).
Of course the kernel is a major thing when it comes to battery drain (e.g. bugs in wifi module etc) so it may be necessary to use another kernel or ROM but first of all i would recommend to start the above way.

I need to do this too, mine drains like crazy now and it used to not. I'm on vacation in the bahamas. I have to sim in, just on wifi and I drain like 20% in an hour. I have turned things off like Bluetooth, location and so on and it hasn't helped. I uninstalled apps like Facebook in hopes to stop it but the issue remains. Just installed that battery monitoring app... Hope it will point to the culprit

The proper Better Battery Stats log must be at least 6 hours long in order for the majority of processes (And possible battery hogs) to reveal themselves. Do not touch the phone during this period. (Very important!)
Secondly, go here...
https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/guide-how-resolved-battery-drain-htc-10-t3619461
Follow the instructions. Do the proper BBS idle run afterward.
PM me, or meet back here.
Yea your guide is awesome but it doesn't help with the android os battery drain.
Look at the stats.txt he posted.
He has around 1mio kernel wakelocks in under 3h lol
This problem happened to me too out of nowhere.
I found out:
- most kernel wakelocks are going crazy 5000-10000 wakelocks per minute
- happens only when screen is off
-the fastcharge message doesn't appear anymore while the charging is still fast
-ruu ing or wiping doesn't help
-unlock bootloader setting in developer settings is greyed out

If you are using Better Battery Stats (Available on XDA & Playstore), go here...
Then do this...
https://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...809&p=72467976
Then submit your idle log for analysis, this may get to the root of your problem.
Any problems/ questions, let me know.
Did already a dump but without watchdog, shows basically the same as the guy posted above. Another one is running right now, will post it today in the evening after work.
After ruuing again the quickcharge message appears again.
Maybe its a hardware fault but why is everything working fine except the missing deep sleep?
Checked sensors, storage cpu ram graphics card. No freezes or errors.
As promised here are the dump files.
Only thing I can think of giving that much wakelocks is an error of an sensor.
To my surprise the phone had 1.5h deep sleep while idling for around 12h which didn't happen before. It was 99.9% active while idling before.
So I got an possible solution from a guy in the bbs thread I will post it here.
BBS log is fine. Appears data connection (mobile and/or WiFi) is absent with device spinning its wheels trying to reestablish. Try placing in airplane mode for an hour or so (screen off) to see if behavior subsides. If so try disabling WiFi first then mobile data to further isolate problem.
This problem has been reported by other HTC 10 users in various forums. Reported fixes are all over the map but typically involve going with a custom kernel (eg: ElementalX) and/or ROM (Lineage 14.1 was cited a few times).

After bending that middle metal thing in the usb c charger port up a bit my battery life is better than ever.
Usually android os and system sucked around 30-40% battery but now its down to 10.
Still not the best but better is better
And my device doesn't run hot that much.

Battery Life

So I have been having problems with battery life for a month of so. I had google call me today from the support setting. They had me put the phone in safe mode to see if that would help. It seems to have fixed my problem. Its only been about 5 hours but it would seem that my battery is holding way better then I have seen in a while.
Is there a good app to see what may be may battery drain cause? I have taken my phone out of safe mode and uninstalled some apps in hope of finding the problem one.
Am I missing something else here? If I get good battery life in safe mode it's more then likely an app doing it?
Thanks
Maybe Gsam battery monitor in store...
Some stuff you can check in Android here

Yeah that's one of the best. If you're not rooted make sure you read the third op. It will tell you tell to how to adb so you get the proper stats.

So Google tech I think lead me in the right direction. I solved my battery problem and my blue tooth problem. It is SO much better. I was note was using handcent next SMS. I left it off and started reinstalling apps. With out it installed, My phone is working better then it has in a long time.
So in 5 hours of lite use I still have 83% left. yesterday it would have been 40%. 1 bad app causing all that problem
