I just received my G-Pad LGE (loving it so far). Unfortunately, after updating q-pair on the tablet and installing qpair on my Verizon Galaxy Note 2, I am receiving the (expected) "Internet via Phone is not available due to carrier or device compatibility" error. My question is this --- is there a rom I can install on my note that will allow internet via phone to work? Ideally I'd like to stay with as close to a stock rom as possible, (stability and no broken features are most important to me). I understand I might need to flash an AOSP rom, and if that is the case, can someone who has a note 2 recommend a stable rom that will work with all the qpair features?
Not sure if this would be better suited on the Note 2 forum, I will move if needed.
Thanks,
lb

I get the same message with my note 3.
I am on Rogers in Canada though have Tmobile sim in at the moment. I can use wifi hotspot no problem on my phone, so I am not sure why I get the noncompatible message. Maybe it is a feature that works only on LG phones?
The previous user was thinking maybe there was a way to modify something on the tablet to allow a connection as such.
Same thing with Nexus 5
Internet via phone doesn't work with LG G Pro
I have the same issue as those trying QPair with Samsung phones. The difference is I'm trying to use QPair with my LG G Pad 8.3 with a stock rooted ROM and an LG Optimus G Pro with a stock rooted ROM. The G Pro phone has been hacked so that the built-in Wi-Fi hotspot feature works. I can turn it on manually on the phone and join the Wi-Fi network with the tablet. I was hoping that QPair would allow me to turn the phone hotspot on and off from the tablet. That would be a lot easier and save on the phone battery since I'd be more likely to turn the hotspot off when I don't need it.
Is there something in the carrier ROM (my phone is from AT&T) that is preventing QPair from using the phone internet?

What carrier and what ROM are you using?
onotoTm much
did u update the qpair on your lg tablet via the update center , that fixed my issue the first time i tried using the internet feature
Malladus (based on stock). I'm on O2 in the UK.
I did have issues with Qpair at first. If you removed any bloatware, you might not be able to install the updated version.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
I can confirm that it appears to work with my GS3 on Verizon. I did get the error you describe at first, but I changed a tethering setting and then the internet would work via the qpair program.
I was able to make the error go away if I had Bluetooth tethering checking on the phone (settings, connections, more networks, tethering is how you get there on a TW 4.3 based phone).
The setup procedure I did (from memory) was to update the qpair program on the table via the update center not the play store, but install the app on the phone via the play store.
Good luck!
Kevin
I updated the QPair software on my tablet and enabled Bluetooth tethering on my phone and it still says its not supported on this phone due to a carrier policy or an incompatible device. I'm guessing this is because it's an AT&T phone and they have done something to block it.
I have not removed any bloatware from my tablet. I'm pretty sure the issue is the phone, not the tablet. I'll start a new thread in the LG Optimus G Pro forum.
Okay since i last used qpair i have installed at least one new rom on my phone... And it is no longer working... I do not use this feature much. I am not sure which change I did broke it.

If you are using a custom Rom you might need to change the device name in the build.prop to lv510 and reboot and then download the version from the play store

I've tried lots of threads that said the only way to get free tethering on the s3 is (tmovile) is by rooting then installing "root users tethering" application.
I followed instructions and used "generic ICS" mode - this worked for my first couple attempts at connecting to tmobile tethering... but now it just doesn't work at all - and only in about 1 in ten time it says it is in tether mode is there ever even a wifi signal to pick up - and when it does pick up most of the time now it wont connect (says internet connection problem on PC)
are there any roms that offer this functionality as standard? or any other foolproof apps?
thanks
I'm rooted on stock and have found no working method.

I don't care about Wireless Tethering since it I'm the only one connecting to it through my computer so I just use Easy Tether which even works if you're not rooted.

Is there a way to use the native tetherkng option yet? On the S2, it was as easy as freezing TetheringProvisions app. Any luck for the S3?
I use wifi tether for root users under generic ics profile and it works fine for me. I have to restart the phone each time i use it though, not sure why.

Yes, it is USB. I've been using it since I had the Mytouch 3G. I don't see a need in using WiFi tether unless you are sharing it with other people or using a Tablet. If you are using a PC then I don't see why you wouldn't want to use USB tethering since it doesn't use any battery power.
Rooted using wifi tether and works no problems. Sometimes i do need to restart wifi tether to get the signal. I am using galaxy nexus (gsm) as the profile.
Mine works. Here's a the tutorial.

i believe all the carriers make you pay to use the native wifi tethering.. I use foxfi and it seems to work fine for me. it's on the play store.
TMO gave me free tethering but it would only work with the TMO tethering app (throttled), not with any other app. After I rooted the other apps worked fine and the root tether app is much faster then the TMO app.
Cool. Thanks guys
ClockWorkMod
First, you will need to download the ClockWorkMod tethering app.
Then, you will need to download the driver for your PC. You can download the driver onto your phone open the file on your PC by connecting your phone to the USB. It pretty much walks you through everything to get started. Takes less than ten minutes and voila, you're online. I searched forever to find this and just discovered it. Now all I need is hotspot so I can use this with my Chromebook. Here is the link to download the driver clockworkmod.com/tether/drivers
Just click Samsung drivers and it will download.
It works great. The only thing that I have noticed that may be a problem is that I got kicked off once. I just started using it so I'm not sure if it happens often, but all I had to do to get it back on was turn off the app on my phone, and on my PC then turn it on from my phone and then click start on my PC.
It's only a trial version, but the full version can be purchased directly from the app once the trial runs out for $4.99. Hope this helps! Enjoy!

Ok I am new to tethering since I have always used Comcast....
I have the unlimited data plan from Tmo.... Unlimited data plan comes with 500mb of free tether.... soon enough it will run out... I need to make sure my tether works AND make sure if I do these methods they won't find out I'm tethering....
I just wanted to clarify my question...
So how do I go about this....? as of now my phone is not rooted but it will be if need be....
Everything online is telling me to root my phone and use 30934983458 different apps... if anyone is kind enough can someone explain please how this process works (I am not a noob with phones just with tethering)
Hi Guys, i'm planning on getting a Note 2 on Verizon as soon as it comes out. I have been using the Droid Bionic and love the wifi tether app that allows me to share data with other devices without having to pay the extra $30 that Verizon asks for. I was wondering if i can do the same on the Note 2? i tried looking around for an answer but couldn't find one anywhere.

yes. just install one of many tethering apps and you'll be able to. wifi will need root permissions most likely. but usb tethering will probably be fine.
depending how VZW does makes the built in app, you could use it. if they don't track it. which some companies do..
U already have an integrated tether app found in your settings. Just customize as u like, turn it on, and there u go

The North American ATT version does not have a hotspot button in that drop down menu. Also, because it's ATT you have to pay extra for tethering. The solution I listed above is for those that want to run the hotspot without paying ATT extra to do it.
And an update on Foxfi: Apparently our phone and the SG3 use similar chipsets for network connectivity. Unfortunately, the latest version of Foxfi does not work with the SG3 or our phone for mobile hotspot. You can use the bluetooth DUN instead. Hopefully they will put out an update to add the right drivers.

Well I can say that none of these options work on the sprint varient, as I've tried Wifi tether for root, barnacle, and FoxFi, and all show enabled, but I can't find the device to connect to it. So if it really is enabled, I can't see the SSID. I havn't tried to manually connect to the SSID, but I have run all tethering apps with SSID broadcast on, so I should be able to see it...
Never mind got it working using Generic (wlan0) ICS/JB setting...
Please explain, i am using pdanet on mine with sprint via usb tether . I don't want to root at this time but want to get hotspot free.
1 thing I've found with USB tether is that it only works at half speed of what I get for speed the galaxy s3 that I had prior would get full Speed. Also when connected to my laptop via USB I get hey message stating slow battery charge
Anyone know what I can do to increase speed through the USB cable

most of the new new plans have tethering enabled is a different thing

Hi,
I've been running jelly bam lately because of the PA features (specifically per app DPI), but I recently purchased a Fitbit Flex and couldn't get it to work. I contacted their support and they just told me they don't support custom roms.. so I tried to restore my stock ATT/Samsung rom which is just version 4.1.1. The Fitbit Flex software installs and actually has the refresh button now but my phone doesn't seem to see my Flex when bluetooth is on. I think I need an update before I will be able to use the stock rom and I'm not sure how to do the updates with TWRP installed, I tried but it keeps rebooting into recovery. Anyway, I'd prefer not using the stock rom, specifically I would prefer a custom rom with PA features. I've just tried PAC-Man 4.3 nightly from last night (pac_t0lte-nightly-20130823.zip), and while my phone's bluetooth does see the device now, the Fitbit app doesn't give me the options like it did with my stock rom. Has anyone gotten the bluetooth and their Fitbit Flex to work with a custom rom with PA features?
Thanks!
If I recall, on a S3 and using a Fitbit One, you won't see the Fitbit except inside the app. There is a "devices" section in the app which lets you check the sync box. If you don't see that then the phone isn't seeing the Fitbit. Stock rom on the S3 works fine. Any custom rom will show you stats pulled from the web but not allow you to sync from the phone. I believe their app is the problem and not necessarily the phone or rom. Anyway, I've learned to live without syncing from the phone since stock firmware just isn't for me.

This is all exactly the same on my Note 2, but even my stock doesn't rom work. Like I said, possibly due to the old version 4.1.1. Under the stock rom the app shows all the additional options like you mention, but my phone's bluetooth never sees the Flex. I wonder what the Fitbit app uses to determine whether to show the additional options or not. I included screenshots to my "about device". I noticed that my model number was different with the new rom and thought maybe that might have something to do with it because clearly it's not (or not just) the android version.
Have you tried a stock 4.1.2 build ??

I came here looking for answers/help with my bluetooth... but so far I haven't really been able to find anything that's actually helpful. I can share with everything what I've been able to find out, though.
I have a Galaxy Note 2 running stock on Android 4.4.2 and I have the Fitbit Flex. I used to sync without any problems but after my phone updated to 4.4.2 it no longer syncs. After researching for a few days... it seems the problem is with the Update itself... it reduces power or range of Bluetooth... that's why the Flex cannot sync to it. However, I have discovered an quick fix to that:
When syncing, just place your phone on top of your Flex band and it will sync up without any problems. This has become my temporary solution. Someone else suggest another quick fix would be to turn on Mobile Hotspot on your phone... that is suppose to increase the Bluetooth Power.
I also learned that Samsung won't update the Note 2 to 4.4.4, which would have fixed this problem.. but instead will Update the Note 2 to Lollipop... but that date is still unannounced.
If anyone has any ideas on how to really fix this problem... I'm all ears. The only solution I found was to open up the phone and do something to the bluetooth chip inside... but I forgot where I found that solution.
I see various devices on various carriers have had problems with the wifi hotspot on FoxFi after the 4.3 OTA update, and while some people have been able to get around the problem, I don't see that anyone has with the AT&T Note 2.
I've tried the trick of pressing the home button when the dialog box pops up saying "Mobile hotspot is unavailable ... To enable mobile hotspot on this device, go to att.com/mywireless or dial 611" and then opening FoxFi again. FoxFi shows the hotspot is active, but no device can see it.
I actually had PDANet installed (fully paid), and it showed that the FoxFi component was version 2.10. I uninstalled PDANet and reinstalled version 2.13.1 of FoxFi (not sure what the difference is between the PDANet and FoxFi versions of the app). Same problem.
The only other possible solution I've run across involved the Note 3 on Verizon -- accepting a new VPN certificate or forcing FoxFi to offer a new one up by getting rid of the existing one. But FoxFi has never offered me a certificate, and I don't see any old one (or any for that matter) in Settings > Security > Trusted Credentials > User.
Has anyone whose Note 2 is not rooted been able to get FoxFi functioning after updating to 4.3?
Alrighty! The thus far deafening silence leads inexorably to this query then: does anyone have FoxFi running on a rooted AT&T Note 2 and is also paired with a Galaxy Gear?
I opted for stock OTA 4.3 with my Note 2 primarily because of the Gear, but the FoxFi problem on 4.3 has proven to be a double-whammy -- not only have I lost the hotspot after taking 4.3 OTA, but I also can no longer Bluetooth tether -- which means I can't get a direct Internet connection to the Gear (and do all those things that the limited, stock Gear connection to one's phone cannot do).
Somebody... anybody? I'm at an airport right now using the abominable Boingo $5 for 24 hours of 2.8 Mbps d/l speed service on my tab. The hotel I stayed at had its wifi go down for 2 hours yesterday afternoon. I would root and find a way, but I don't want to have to mess (read: spend time) with the can of worms that would open with pairing my Galaxy Gear....

Why PM? Can you please post this publicly? I have the same problem. Thanks!
Most custom ROMs have it built it.
I don't know about cocheci, but as I indicated above, I'd need a custom ROM that also works with the Gear without problem. From what I've gleaned from its thread, the Sky Note Air 4.3 ROM may well fit that bill. I just have to find an empty space in my schedule for the potential time sink. (Got a wife and young kids and a more than full time job, so long gone are the days when I could spend all night dikking around with tech toys.)

Sky note is an awesome ROM. Latest version is G2 I believe. It also comes with out the NOTE 3 stuff in the vanilla flavor. Very lickable. I mean likable.
Not much dikking required.
