GAPPS
ROM
This version includes openpdroid, but PDroid does NOT work with ART (bootloop). To use PDroid, you'll need to install PDroid Manager from the play store.
ROM (1/4)
The linaro toolchain seems to reduce 3D Graphics and RAM performance slightly, so I decided to build without it for now. Still ART-default.
ROM (12/30)
Built normally this time, no extra optimization flags. ART is the default startup for this build (supports Dalvik, ART, and ART debug, the non-default two were unintentional, but I don't know how to remove them). It takes a little bit longer to start up than the previous build, but the performance is about the same, if not a little better.
ROM (12/29)
Observations:
Make sure you install CWM Recovery and stay on it while you are using this ROM, since if you install through TWRP, your SIM card will not be recognized.
I don't exactly game on my Android, but I've yet to see issues with ART. If a game does crash on first start, try to start it again, it worked for me the second time.
I didn't exactly test this long enough to say anything about the battery, but it's quite smooth so far.
I'll update this thread again in 12 days, or whenever I figure out how to make it ART-only.
Changes from nicktastique's version:
See attachment for my repo manifest (Uses TheMuppets for proprietary files) (yes, it takes longer to download, but nicktastique's local_manifest kept failing to build for me, possibly because I was using Java 1.7 until I realize I wasn't supposed to)
Built with Linaro Toolchain 13.11 (4.8)
Code:
mka CFLAGS='-O3 -pipe -Wl,–hash-style=gnu -fstrict-aliasing -Wstrict-aliasing=2 -Werror=strict-aliasing -ffast-math' CXXFLAGS='-O3 -pipe -Wl,–hash-style=gnu -fstrict-aliasing -Wstrict-aliasing=2 -Werror=strict-aliasing -ffast-math' bacon

Not that I've come across. Still testing. Passes the 3D benchmark from Antutu too.
Throughout CM 11 though, I've seen GPU tearing in Chrome Beta. Perhaps some Developer Settings may fix it.
Benchmark-wise, insignificant change in the cpu (+.3%), some improvement in Database I/O (+2%), some improvement in 3D graphics (+13.26%). However, RAM speed suffered (-7.3%)

I haven't had a chance to test that (my new microsd should be delivered within a few days, but don't expect it to work. I haven't had a chance to tweak the kernel or even look at it yet.
EDIT: yep, 64gb microsds work (exFat support)
Works. Found a bug tho. When I listen to music using my Bluetooth headset, its fine until I put the phone to sleep. When I put the phone to sleep, audio starts skipping. Other than that, this ROM kicks ass. The BT issue seems to be on all 4.4 ROMs tho.

This post only pertains to Jellytime Sosei/BakedBean 4.1.2 and is for users experiencing problems with their A100, yours may not. This thread is not to debate or argue about the kernels, please keep that in mind
Hey guys, I was originally testing these ROMs for pio, and constantly am changing or tweaking things on the ROM to find what suits our A100 best. Pio was building these blind, so he has no way to thoroughly test the ROMs and such things as build.prop mods/tweaks as well as kernels.
Let me start by saying this, I AM IN NO WAY BASHING ANY DEVELOPER FOR THEIR WORK. I AM IN NO WAY BLAMING OR STATING THAT ANY BUGS/FLAWS ARE A DIRECT RESULT OF THEIR WORK. THE THINGS I AM LISTING ARE ISSUES/PROBLEMS/BUGS THAT I HAVE OBSERVED OR ENCOUNTERED, AND ALL BUGS/FLAWS WERE TESTED AGAINST THEIR EQUAL. EXAMPLE, USING THE godmachine81/linuxsociety KERNEL, THAN REPRODUCING THE SAME ENVIRONMENT, I WOULD RUN THE STOCK KERNEL FOR TESTING AND VERIFYING THE ERROR.
Kernel Observation:SODsEveryone, including myself, tend to automatically flash linuxsociety's GodMachine kernel v2.0, as it really is our only option for JellyBean/CM10/AOSP based ROMs. We do have ezTerry's kernel, but it has not "supposedly" been tweaked for 4.1.x systems. Although it is the base for GodMachine kernels. I've never used ezTerry's kernel, but I may test it like I've been testing GodMachine.
Anyways, for this ROM, I have found that the godmachine kernel performs poorly on Sosei ROM. With GodMachine kernel, I had tons of issues with constant BSOD/SOD. (Sleep of Death) The SODs were worse if you left wireless on, and the SODs were completely random, no matter what I did, if the tablet fell aslepp, it SOD'd on me. Using the stock kernel pio packed with the ROM, resolved much of this issue for me. The only time I have SOD on the stock kernel is when Wifi was left on, and the chances of this happening were 99% LESS LIKELY compared to GodMachine. You can combat this, by sacrificing battery life and using an app that's free on the playstore, WakeLock. If you choose to go this route, the "Partial_Wake_Lock" option consumes the least amount of battery while still preventing SOD. None of the 3 options for forcing wireless to stay on worked for stopping SOD.
RANDOM REBOOTS/CRASHING/FREEZINGI myself did not have many issues with random reboots, but I did have some issues with random app "force closes" and freezing to the point where you'd have the almost force close I call it, where you get an option to close or wait for the app. I have not had this issue using the stock kernel, unless related to the next topic...
GPU/VIDEO INSTABILITY/ODDITIESI, as well as a few others, have reported issues with display. Most users have noticed an issue with flashing lines, tearing, and artifacts on the desktop. I have also had issues when play a THD/HD game, for example Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation HD, where anytime after about 20-30min, the display would become compltely distored, almost like when you were trying to pick up a TV station using rabbit ear antennas, and the game crashes/freezes, but you do not get an option to force close, so you have to use the Navigation bar HOME button to get yourself out of it, than you need to kill the game anyway you want, but if you don't kill it, it will load you back to that distorted, frozen image.
In the GodMachine kernel, the GPU is overclocked as well as being able to overclock your CPU, but you cannot adjust the GPU yourself with any application. Linuxsociety states: "Stable GPU Overclock @ 450mhz (scales from 300 - 450)"
I do not have these issues with video when using the stock kernel, nor do I notice any lack of GPU performance with lack of GPU overclocking.
In my honest opinion, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND the STOCK KERNEL. Yes it is lacking in some features, but it is capable of being overclocked as well if your interested in doing so. Using the interactive governor provides the smoothest performance and still retains some battery savings. Conservative, OnDemand, userspace, and Performance are offered as well. The I/O Scheduler only has NOOP available, but if you do some reading, NOOP is actually recommended for Flash Devices, like ours.
To get back to pio's stock kernel, you can boot into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik, and dirty flash the ROM.
BUILD.PROP EDITINGI cannot even begin to tell you the amount of hours I invested in testing and editing the build.prop to obtain what I find to be the most stable while still possibly enhancing performance/responsiveness and battery life. I will link you to my FINAL build.prop mod for you to download if you'd like. In all reality this consisted of just commenting out several lines in the original build.prop that our A100 did not like. This will also fix issues with the video camera recording if you have them, as well as improve certain app and system performance and functions. I've also had more reliability and just odd **** happen when I use the TCP/IP buffer enhancement code lines so those have been commented out as well to keep WiFi stable. I really see no performance gains with them other than SpeedTest and there is a reason, I am a Networking IT Student, and don't feel like explaining that now in this thread. lol
Download build.prop.sosei__tweaked
Using a FileExplorer with ROOT LEVEL ACCESS (I recommend ESFileExplorer),
Copy build.prop.sosei__tweaked into the /system folder
Rename current build.prop to build.prop.bak
Rename build.prop.sosei__tweaked to build.prop
Reboot into recovery (TWRP or CWM) and wipe dalvik cache & cache, reboot
make sure you wait ten, reboot and wait 5-10 before you start using your tablet
This is all in my observed, hands-on testing and experience, and everyone's results will vary based upon factors such as user setup, apps install, the way a user even uses their tablet etc
I hope this might help/inform some of you guys.
Very nice, thanks for taking the time to put this together for the users. How did that kernel I built for you do?

I hadn't flashed it yet as i had gotten my tablet into a perfect state, for me, with this ROM and stock kernel, lol

I'll try it soon and let you know.

I'm using/testing this rom along with gm's kernel. I have not had wake SOD issue. It sometime takes a couple if clicks on the power button for it to wake, not sure if this is the issue you're referring to as SOD. Everything seems to work great so far. Netflix, audio, headphone all work well. I have always wanted some aokp flavor on this tab, and now that wish is granted thanks to the awesome work of pio, bb devs and gm.

No, I had sod constantly. But not slow wake up. I get slow wake sometimes on stock, but atleast it will wake.
Everyone's tablet is not the same, some hate the GM kernel.
Mine seems to be one of those, but had I known how smooth and stable the stock kernel was, I prob would have stopped using GM awhile ago, I've had nothing but issues with it, if you've seen any of my old posts over last couple of months.
G2x-temasek CM7 Nightly 11/18/12 Build, Trinity ELP Kernel
Other than a couple of SOD's I haven't had any other issues with the gm kernel. I have since bumped up the minimum speed to 312 Mhz and that has seemed to fix the SOD issue but I still need more time to conclude that. I'm also getting some impressive quadrant scores with it too (3046) and that's with a fully loaded non-tweaked system. The only reason I like the gm kernel is the variety of I/O schedulers and governors...there is absolutely nothing wrong with the stock kernel. I'm still very happy with the JB ROM, I have it set up almost identical to my Samsung Nexus phone which makes it very convenient.
GM SOD Issue Resolved ( For Me)
I can now safely say after 4 days of testing that raising my minimum speed in the GM kernel to 312 Mhz has completely eliminated the SOD issues. I know that every device acts differently but this is working on mine!

I didn't want to do that myself and lose the extra battery juice.
The point is it should be able to UC down to 216 and hold there with no issues.
The stock kernel does it perfectly well with no ill effects.
I have a modified Godmachine kernel that is unreleased and I will be testing it soon.

SoD is just a failure to resume from sleep, reset button or hold power will reset it to normal. Some tegra2 devices have it, some don't, even among the same series, like a100s. The best way to combat it is to not sleep, but of course battery sucks.

I can understand not wanting to lose the extra battery juice, lots of what we do is to extend it. I did however undervolt the 315 slot to the same as the 216 (750 mV) so there's no addition battery drain. It's a win-win situation! Let us know how the unreleased version works out, I'm always looking for options.

EDIT: *lighter, forgot to check spelling. Lol
So my Evo 3D has finally called it quits and I have one month left till I leave Sprint so my friend gave me this phone that he doesn't use any more. For such an old phone I really can't complain about it, compared to my Evo 3D which runs CM 10.1 too it never crashes, always has GPS, 3G, 4G working fine and the battery lasts me all day. So I'm in love. But my one and only issue is it is extremely slow. And no I will not leave CM 10.1 as I use Google Now very often but if their are huge differences/opportunities for huge differences I'll go down as low as CM 10 or a different 4.0+ ROM.
So I was wondering is there a lite version of CM 10.1, recommended kernels that support both overclocking and undervolting, can someone explain how to make a swap partition on the SD card, and so on, just any ways to free up RAM, speed up the CPU/GPU, and lighten the load of the OS.

"Light version": do it yourself with a root-enabled explorer. Google and you'll know what system apps can be deleted.
OC&UV kernel: Nitest maybe.
Swap: IDK
Free up RAM and speed up: I personally use Autostarts and Advanced Task Killer (Pro), but Greenify seems easier to use. You get ~80MB free RAM after a clean install, but can get 190~220MB after heavily using these. I don't use gapps so YMMV.

I've already deleted every system app I'm comfortable removing using Root Uninstaller. After having everything I have to have installed on the phone, with as many apps set to not run in the background that I can and Greenify helping too, I tend to have 10-70MB of RAM free, it tends to be 15-35MB free though. I don't use task killers since all they do is play cat and mouse and waste battery, and tried a few auto start managers but can't really get into using it with how complicated they are. Right now the main thing I want to figure out is getting a swap partition up and running since that sounds the most promising with how little RAM this phone has.
Did a backup and switched to the nitest-0721 kernel and so far it's doing good. Disappointed the OC only goes up to 1.2GHz but it's better than nothing (don't understand kernels that limit how much you can OC when it's up to you to find how much your phone can OC), hopefully I can find a way to get it to go higher, and the "voodoo color" is weird but I can install a different version of the kernel to remove that if my eyes don't adjust first. Anyways... my free RAM now stays between 100-200MB, usually about 160MB, with 18% zRAM, purging of assets, and samepage merging enabled which is amazing. Apps are opening faster and don't stutter anywhere near as much as before, so I'm happy but will see how things go tonight when I go to work and am playing with it on and off, along with need to find a way to really overclock it.

Try going with one of didhiy's nitest kernels and maybe a different AOSP ROM, like AOKP, PAC, etc. Or try out SuperNexus even. That's an extremely lightweight ROM with no customization options (Its straight up stock Android, just like a brand new Nexus phone), but its fast and quite stable from what I remember.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
Or find one of didhiy's nutest kernels, those have live oc, more free ram, and i believe it goes to 1.4 GHz. I'm not sure though. But it is less stable than nitest

Well I've run this kernel for a week or so now with the smartassv2 governor and min/max at 100/1200MHz. Zero reboots unless I'm playing Minecraft the entire phone locks up other than the button lights, no matter what I do it crashes sooner or later but oh well I'm bored of that game just wanted to see if it'd play on this phone. ANYWAYS I've heard of it being done before but can't find any info on how to do it, how can I overclock past what the kernel allows (1.2GHz), I've seen reports of this phone handling 1.5GHz and want to see if I can reach 1.4.

The frequency is still limited by the kernel...
1.5GHz is history (too unstable and hot so that devs stopped including it), and only Gingerbread/ICS custom ROMs can get that frequency via flashing corresponding Sanders/Shadow/Samurai kernels and overvolting as well, which is definitely not good.

I just seriously hate kernels that limit how high you can overclock instead of making OC options to unreachable levels letting you find your phones limits. People make kernels, roms, hacks, etc so we can get around limitations that the hardware vendors put up. So if we've managed to circumvent the manufacturers blocks why are the same people that got around them making their own blocks, they already put up silly warnings about anything you install/do could break your phone but if you're going to give that warning it needs to be true. Anyways ending my rant lol...
I know their has to be a way to edit a kernel or file to add more options since the kernel creators can't do the job themselves, it's just finding out what and where these files are. Can anyone inform me on this and give me details on how this whole system of controlling clock speed works so it can be modded?

Just curious if anyone else is getting extremely slow performance? I'm running CM10.1 and it is slow -- one of the last stable builds.
I've found that I can't have Hangouts + Facebook or Hangouts + Chrome open at the same time. It'll take ages to load something, so I end up having to force close everything pretty often. And my phone's battery is getting worse and worse in terms of performance
Have been debating what the cause could be. I have a TON of music on my external_sd -- wondering if maybe Android is constantly scanning it and it's slow/losing battery from that. The media scanning icon is not up, though. Could be the ROM? Have been debating dropping back to using a deodexed/debloated stock ROM. Wondering if maybe the battery is just naturally degrading -- I've had the phone for ALMOST one year. Wondering if it's the issue with just having 1GB of RAM on the device?
Any thoughts from anyone on improving performance? I would love to be able to go to work without having to charge the phone. I can go for about 8 hours at work (sometimes listening to music, sometimes not) and by the time I'm home, my phone is anywhere from 10-20%.

Most of android devices has less then 1 giga ram, I don think you need more. You can enable comcache. settings -> performance -> memory management -> zram , it needs kernel support.
zram compresses memory.
My 4.3 roms dont have zram support.
Factory reset always win. You should try latest cm10.2, I think 4.3 faster.

Zram and other improvements
Hello, good afternoon to all
First, sorry to revive an old post, but i can't post in dev zone.
I am currently improving the performance of my i927.
I installed the kernel "LiteKernel" (V4.0-20130113 ICS) but I have some doubts. For example, how I can enable zram? How I can make a small OC the GPU?
I would appreciate some more advice.

But i was thinking in app like Android Tuner that can set a boot profile... because i have to enable zRam every boot
Any idea? any other improvement?
THANKS!
EDIT: Now i see the option that i can set a profile when boot with trickster mod!! thanks again!
Let me introduce myself first. I have been developing software for Windows for almost 20 years. I love to tweak and tinker. That is what drew me to the Android platform. With that said, here are my findings:
I own a T989. I love the phone. I have tried numerous tweaks and scripts etc out there. In the end I found some very minor tweaks that I have done manually that make a noticeable difference in performance and a battery life.
The biggest increase in performance and battery life that I had noticed was going from a stock rom to CM 10. I am currently on CM 10.2 (and eagerly awaiting a stable version of CM 11).
With that said I noticed that if I changed just a few minor things CM 10.2 runs considerably faster.
Here is what I have done:
1. Disabled ZRAM completely. I have noticed that my phone boots faster with it disabled. I noticed that multitasking was not as good with it disabled but the phone seemed much snappier.
2. Changed Min Free values. I used the Performance Control app for this. My settings are currently as follows:
Foreground Applications: 16 mb
Visible Applications 18 mb
Secondary Server: 23 mb
Hidden Applications 42 mb
Content Providers 49 mb
Empty Applications 56 mb
This seemed to help a lot with multitasking and now it multitasks fast and the phone is much snappier and less laggy. So far my phone is very stable and fast.
3. Set SD Card Read Ahead to 2048.
4. I also left KSM disabled and left Allow purging of assets disabled.
That's it. My phone is rock solid stable and fast with these settings. I also noticed that my battery lasts about 15% longer. Even better than just switching to CyanogenMod 10.2 alone.
Let me know if it works for you.
I would absolutely love to try this, but I don't understand majority of what you wrote. I'm familiar with cyan though..

How do you disable zram entirely is what I'm wondering ?
*MEGA 4.4.2*GS2 4.4.2*2SHAYNEZ*
Disabling ZRAM is CM is easy. Under the performance menu just go to Memory Management > ZRAM. Select Disable. Reboot.
Oh I'm running slimkat on my i9205 mega and downloaded the performance apk. And I'm running beanstalk on my t989
*MEGA 4.4.2*GS2 4.4.2*2SHAYNEZ*
I updated the OP with new Min Free settings. I noticed that it wasn't as stable as I thought. After using it heavily all day I updated some apps in the Play Store and the launcher hung and everything was slow until I rebooted.
I then changed it to the new values above and used it very heavily. I made sure at least 18 apps were open then reinstalled those same apps from the Play Store (I uninstalled them first). So far no problems.

Is there a way to disable ZRAM on a rooted stock T989 running 4.1.2?
Thanks in advance,
rabilancia
As far as I know the stock ROM doesn't have ZRAM.

Running JMT8 right now, and this has been one of the best posts I've seen on this forum. All roms I ever flashed would be snappy for the first couple days then slow to a crawl after a month. This has brought this phone back to life and prevent me from having to flash all the time. I wasn't able to do the ZRAM disable since I don't think I have that settings, but I updated the min-free settings and have seen noticable improvements. Thanks!

Will SD Card Read Ahead 2048 not reduce the life of the SD? (and by a lot since my current ROM was 200% less.)

No. In writing a lot over time can possibly reduce the life of the SD. I don't believe that reading will.

I use ROM Toolbox to benchmark. 2048 usually yields better results overall.

Credits go to @ktoonsez for his kernel sources and KT apps (KTweaker and KTmonitor) :good:
Disclaimer: me no responsible if you use this!
So what is this? KT-SGS4 AOSP-4.4 S4 kernel ported to S4 Active (Intl). What has changed is of course jactive related stuff:
jactive board definitions and kernel config
camera sources and handler functions
some display settings
assorted stuff, can't really remember all the imporant bits
pre 1.0.0 AOSP4.4
Also, i tried to make a unified kernel, i.e. all differences between original and jactive are controlled with code ifdefs. But this haven't been tested as i don't have S4
So what works? So far i have found only one bug, when making or receiving calls i can't hear what the other side is saying and vice versa, i.e. no audio. Call sounds fixed.
Also overclocking the CPU seems to be broken, at least KTmonitor shows CPU to go only up to 1890 even though the clock is set over that value. So that's one thing to work on. I'll try to debug someday next week.
Compiled with linaro-4.7-12.10 toolchain.
This should work on CM11 and AOSP based roms. Personally i have it running on SlimKat (dualboot) and CM11. Just flash the CWM zip. It contains KTweaker and KTmonitor apps, courtesy of ktoonsez. Thanks mate.
Latest version 04.14.2014
Personal experiences:
benchmarks are slower than with CM11 kernel, dunno if it matters...
still it's smooth in everyday use
KTweaker has lots of stuff to tweak, only if i had time...
AOSP4.4/CM11
This one works with CM11 and AOSP v 1.0.0 and later. Don't use with earlier AOSP since this needs newer blobs.
KT-SGS4-KK4.4-AOSP-eur-02.11.2015
Built with Linaro 4.9 2014.09
Beta release
AOSP5.0/CM12
As there is no AOSP5.0 for jactive yet, just use CM12 .
KT-SGS4-LP5.0-AOSP-eur-02.15.2015:
fixed bootloop for now at least
supports ext4/f2fs partitions
KT-SGS4-LP5.0-AOSP-eur-02.11.2015
Built with Linaro 4.9 2014.09
Beta release
TouchWiz
This one works with KK TW roms (well i have tried only WizCyan...). Seems stable with default clocks and even with some OC. But every phone is different in regards OC, so YMMV. KTweaker and KTmonitor included. Do note that Display settings might not work as we don't have Amoled.
Changes ver 01.12.2015
Fixed unresponsive screen bug
Compiled with Linaro 4.9-2014.09
Changes ver 01.03.2015
overclocking works better now
increased touchscreen min limit freq, hopefully removes problem with unresponsiveness
built with Linaro 4.7.12.10
Changes ver 12.15.2014 (BETA)
first version of KT TW kernel for jactive
added KEXEC_HARDBOOT support, works with MultiROM
General notes
Do keep in mind that if you don't set oc settings in boot, you need to use KTweaker app and reset the cpu min and max sliders for the settings to take effect. Even though the app asks if you want to apply the settings, it doesn't update the actual min and max values.

Heh, thanks. Sadly there seems to be a bug with call audio, so for test use only at this point. I went through the kernel code and all i can think of to do is to try audio stuff from CM11 kernel, to see if that's the problem. Still, audio works perfectly everywhere else so really hard to say what's wrong...

True, but luckily i have two phones and sims (other one is my work phone) so it's easier to debug.
Some progress: it turns out that for some reason es325 codec can't connect to slimbus sink and thus no audio. slimbus has some kt additions, need to debug more. Also i think it would be good to try to build the kernel with some other toolchain than linaro...

Hmmm... does it build modules with kernel ?? Ya changing the compiler to maybe the google ndk gcc may fix up some issues but I think u will have alot of pain in debugging files since not all elements that linaro supports are supported by other .... I maybe wrong but ...xxxx

Yes, modules are compiled and part of the cwm package. I haven't checked that all required modules are present, but i don't think that's the problem. Gonna be setting up a proper kernel dev env, found a good howto for Eclipse here: http://simonkagstrom.livejournal.com/33093.html. Regular editors just aren't cutting it anymore

Thanks . Luckily i had some experience with LeJay's cm10.2 kernel and cm11 kernel so i knew roughly what parts differ between jf an jactive. Just a matter of diffing those parts (meld is my tool of choice for that kind of work).
This kernel s awesome. It's speeded up my phone. I want to use this regularly has anyone found a way for the phone call sound??

Not yet. Been debugging and the problem is somewhere in kernel's slimbus communication, it seems es325 codec cannot get audience firmware loaded properly or something...

Ah, found he bug; && should be || when checking if CONFIG_JACTIVE_ATT or CONFIG_JACTIVE_EUR... es325 wasn't configured properly. Now call sounds work. I'll upload a new build after i do some testing first.
Waiting for the upload

I am running your AOSP 4.3.1 ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2621883
I flashed this kernel in recovery, wiped cache and dalvik, but it will not boot. I get the "Samsung Galaxy S4 Active I-9295" splash screen, then it hangs, and hangs, and hangs.
I had to restore back to the version 8 nandroid of that thread. ADB would give me nothing so early in the boot sequence.

Did you read the topic? this kernel is for 4.4
Indeed, it's for AOSP 4.4.x. You propable need to reflash the whole rom to get back original boot.img and kernel modules.
As for the phone sound being too low, dunno. If it was working ok with the original Carbon kernel, that points the problem being in the new kernel. But to my limited understanding, the volumes come from settings outside the kernel... personally i'm running CM11 with this kernel and volumes are ok.
The volume in carbon rom also is the same. I tried the sound mods but it changes all the volumes of system other than the incall volume.
