[Q] Korean F160s - LG Optimus G (International)

hi, merry christmas and a happy new year, i received from a friend today an lg korean version f160s, acording to some post, over the internet the specs are
lte and network CDMA800, CDMA1900, 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC,
but if you check on lgetool site
http://www.lgtool.net/phones/F160S.html
LG F160S
LG F160S is a GSM phone supported by LGtool.
Instant unlock by IMEI is supported by LGtool for this phone.
And since i have worked with some samsung and motorolas from sk korea, if you flash a compatible version form another model acording to the one that your trying to unlock, if succeded it works on a gsm network.
i believe that sk telecom uses gsm phones but with the imei and unlocking options removed or hidden.
this phone has an imei, so i believe it could work on a gsm system, and if posible can someone please, guide me, on how to remove sk bloatware to be able to input a network unlocking code? or how to change the rom to a compatible one for sim unlocking purposes.
examples
motorola xt910, xt720
samsung shv- e120s, m110s, e210s, e210l. shw- m110s m130k m130l, m190s, m240k, m240s, m440s.
that are from korea, and can be unlocked and used in gsm systems.
thank you very much indeed for your help

I am no expert, but I would be REALLY surprised if that is possible... According to specs, this is not a GSM device, and it makes no sense (to me, at least), that the GSM functionality would exist in hardware, but somehow be "hidden" or disabled in software. As regards to your examples, those are in fact GSM phones - both Motorolas, Samsung E120S, M110S, didn't check further...

posting this to just answer and because there is no forum for lte2 here...
f160 / lte2 is a cdma phone just like any other Korean LG phone like F180.
so just pop in the sim and it will work, but you wont get edge.
3g / lte are also dependent on the frequencies of your country and providers.
i had f160 and there is no english counterpart for tghis phone like f180 which has e975. its a decent enough phone, just root and remove the korean apps.

The first part is correct, the second part is not quite so... F160 is indeed a CDMA phone, but very different from F180, which is a GSM device (with WCDMA and LTE as well). The OP's question was about using F160 on GSM networks.

which part you didn't get, i had this phone, this is same as f180, you will not get edge, but rest its ok. gsm network works.

Calm down, will ya? The part I dont get is that you said youself it's a CDMA phone. F180x models are all listed as GSM devices, but F160x are spec'd as CDMA only. I don't have an F160, and I don't have a reason not to believe you - if you are saying it works on GSM networks, it means the published specs are incorrect, that's it.

lol sometimes its like chating you have no idea what other person is thinking or whats his mood.!
i was pretty normal, perhaps my reply seemed im not.
yes F180 is speced wrong because its similar to E975 so they just put like e975, F180 ... blaa blaa. but it is exact to what gsmarena says for lte2.

Nah, it's all good... Your response did sound a little bit... overexcited, but I sometimes get that, too.
On the topic, though, it's interesting that the phone which is very specifically listed as CDMA only (GSM Arena is one example, but other places have the same apecs) actually works on GSM networks... It does sound like it's similar to the F180 family then.

thanks
hi thank you very much for the guide anad help,
as for the example of the motorola xt720 motoroi from korea (just to confirm about the options removed),
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1589076
unlock korean XT720
Go online and get you unlock code , update you phone to a custom rom you will find plenty of these on this site CM7 i used from J.Y daddy, then place in you sim and you will get request for a unlock code.
"Korean phones have this functionality removed so updating is the only way".
as for the use of the phone just like it is now, i just poped a 900 and 1900mhz claro sim card and, no network code request, but emergency calls only,
in the mobile network menu settings
Network mode
select a LTE/3g network
so unless it has a hidden menu to change bands, i will believe that it's imei in this case is only for LTE non gsm calling at all, or i do need a custom rom to habilitate other options.
i always believe that gsm arena listed 100% accurate specs.
but no, sometimes it says that it is not a gsm device specially, in asian devices, and at the end they turn to be gsm capable.
thanks, any other advice?

inshort
F160 will work on gsm sim if its not carrier locked for some reason. (mine was not, no code request or anything)
F160 will work with GPRS but not EDGE on gsm sim.
F160 will work on 3G if the frequencies match with the carrier in use.
custom ROM or Stock, doesn't matter. hidden menu is same as for e975, search for it.
dont want to be rude, but we have enough talk about the phone here, you can find info elsewhere.
you can always talk in General section but not in device specific forum.

this is the best forum for my belief, and wish, to ask to the world's best, not elsewhere
my mistake, i assume that the title, was indeed the appropriate, but seems i was wrong.
so maybe i can find info elsewhere, or talk in another general section, not in a device specific forum,

What to do with a CDMA phone or even WCDMA?

Hi I am form New Zealand and I am thinking of getting a HTC Diamond.
Now New Zealand telecom uses the WCDMA network, and I suspect the phone will be CID locked as well.
A good friend of mine has a diamond from Germany which he has flashed several times (Radio+Roms) (he is using Vodafone in New Zealand, which is GSM)
I would like to know if I can follow the normal steps that I would do on a GSM phone on a CDMA phone. Which would be: HardSPL (e.g. Olinex 1.4)-> flash Radio or ROM.
What do I need to look out for, are there special HardSPL versions or ROMS available, or can I use any ROM or Radio?
in my defence, I really tried to find informaion here ono what to do with a CDMA phone but I couldn't find any helpful threads.
So please help me out or send me links for more information.
Thanks a lot

Although there are many APPs that can be used here on this forum for CDMA, Radio's, Roms & Hard SPL's require you to visit ....HERE
band27 is right, ppcgeeks is the best place to go for you HTC CDMA needs.
Thanks for the quick reply.
I'll check that site out.
Do you reckon it would be impossible to put a rom listed in this forum onto a CDMA phone. E.g. Shaks v4.0? Since my friend strongly recommends that and he doesn't know anything about specific CDMA ROMs. It just seems that it can be a lengthy path till you find the right ROM
How can I tell in advance whether an app will work or not?

ABSOLUTELY NOT regarding ROM's....you will brick your device. Most APPs are fine though.
GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! U R ABOUT TO MAKE THIS GUY BRICK HIS PHONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
using WCDMA doesnt mean that ur phone is cdma!!!!!
wcdma is a coverage by the gsm if i am not mistaken.

dude,make ur own research
dont flash anything until u talked to ur phone company n asked them if ur phn is cdma or gsm
from what i know , wcdma is a coverage of gsm.
wcdma and cdma is not the same thing or network
I am still not clear even after reading an article on wiki
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WCDMA
maybe this is a better wiki
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Mobile_Telecommunications_System
maybe some experts can comment on this.
@konrad.schafers, you should NOT PERFORM ANY FLASH until you are sure which category your Diamond is.

For the love of God, calling your phone provider to inquire whether your device is GSM or CDMA is not necessary.
Simply open the backing to your device and check if you have a SIM card.
SIM Card = GSM
No Sim Card = CDMA
In New Zealand Telecom has always had CDMA (no SIM), after Vodafone introduced 3G they will introduce W-CDMA (the way I see it it is a hybrid between GSM-UMTS and CDMA.
Here is the quote from Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telecom_New_Zealand)
On the 8 June 2007, Telecom announced a plan to build a hybrid W-CDMA/UMTS-CDMA network [14], based on the WCDMA HSPA technology, to replace its current CDMA EV-DO network. The network is planned to go online in June 2009 [15] running at 850 MHz with some 3G 2100 MHz for extra coverage in urban areas. Telstra's Next G (in Australia) and AT&T Wireless also have networks running on 850 MHz, which can cover greater geographic distances and penetrate buildings more effectively than higher frequencies. Current CDMA phones are guaranteed by Telecom to work until at least June 2012. The Telecom UMTS network is planned to have no GSM coverage, no roaming coverage for 2G phones. Foreign 850MHz (North American) and 2100MHz (European) UMTS handsets can roam to this network.
I really have to talk to someone from telecom directly. It looks like flashing either a CDMA rom or a GSM rom is dangerous

None of these devices are dual compatible. However HTC is coming up with a product that will be introduced in the 2009 lineup. Off the top of my head...don't recall.

You are right, the W-CDMA allows for CDMA devices the ability to use the 3G signals. Prior to this, CDMA devices were not 3G compatible.

Calling your provider might lead to voiding the warranty of this product. If you follow instructions as per the Wiki's and reading lots of threads, like the rest of us on this forum, your experience here will be with out a doubt, a very positive one. Millions of us flashers have crossed that line and can speak to this that although at first we were all hesitate, we are glad we did..!!
Flashing is Not for Everyone! Fear determines this....
Good Luck in what ever choices you make....If you decide to cross that line then all your Radio and ROM needs can be found over at PPCgeek.coml.........Don't forget to Hard SPL first!!
If this helps
WCDMA is base on GSM technology
CDMA was developed by Qualcomm in the United States and is the dominant network in the USA- if this helps?
Please post what Current ROM, Radio your device has.
I haven't got one yet. I was checking out the possibilities of flashing etc. They'll only launch WCDMA in June over here. Yes they are quite backwards in NZ. no full 3G by the major provider (Vodafone has had it for while).
Or even worse the broadband over here!!! You Pay per GB, around $1NZD (~55 USc) per Gigabyte (plus $50NZD base charge) and that's by far the cheapest here. Ususally they charge you something like $50NZD per month for a Gigabyte of data usage and limited bandwidth. Maximum bandwidth on which they charge you heavily is maybe 6MB if you're lucky
I used to live in germany! This is driving me mad
a bit of topic but...
Germany is one of the best places for cheap charges and bandwidth for Broadband in Europe . Nz charges base charge is similar in the UK
Seems strange as Nz was clearing money cheques (remember these) the next day back in 1976 while the UK still takes 3-5 working days.
Me personally i flashed cdma rom into gsm diamond and it didnt get broken, it just did not boot up, so i had to flash again from bootloader but no one wants to experience such a story :-D

[Q] Using E980 with Mobilicity or Wind in Canada

I have recently purchased an LG Optimus G pro, LG E-980 - the ATT phone.
I am trying to set it up to use with my carrier Mobilicity here in Vancouver BC.
Mobilicity is on the AWS Band 4 frequency, just like WInd Mobile here in Canada and T-Mobile in the US.
The phone has been unlocked and rooted but when I try to select my carrier from the list under Network Carriers,
it does not appear.
The specs on this phone do indicate that it should work with this frequency but I cannot seem to get it to work.
I have added the appropriate APN settings for data and MMS but I cannot even get voice let alone data.
I have set the network mode to WCDMA Only but still no luck.
I have discovered the hidden menu but do not know what if any changes to make.
Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.
From my understanding of reading the specs is that this phone can support AWS (1700/2100).
Any thoughts?
Thank you
It should at least get EDGE to make voice calls. Where did you read that the E980 has AWS bands? It doesn't. It may work with LTE but not WCDMA. If it's not making voice calls, check swappa's ESN checker and see if the IMEI has been blocklisted.
it does support aws - for lte.
i read it in the specs and there are other users on this forum that are using it on tmobile lte
imei is fine and it doesn't do 2g voice only because this carrier only supports 3g aws for data - no edge
i am interested if the method mentioned on this forum titled "Enable AWS band (3g/4g Tmobile) on ATT Note 2 stock baseband" would work
that method has also been used for the same purpose on the samsung s4
I believe the s4 uses the same snapdragon 600 soc so i would like to know if this could be ported over to work with the g pro
not sure but newer player like mobilicity/wind do not have the 2g frequency....it use the 1700/2100 frequency... it should work since the ogp have the 1700 and the 2100 frequency...the same is for those who are on the T-Mobile in u.s.a....
yes i believe i said that mobilicity/wind do not support edge.
it does support 1700/2100 for lte - that is confirmed.
trying to find out if phone can be modded to support wcdma 1700/2100
if it should then great - does anyone know how to proceed.
thanks
Tried to contact OP but haven't heard back for over a week now and just wondering if this can indeed work with Wind/Mobi network? Anyone have this workign? It "seems" like it should work...

I never did manage to get this working. I kept searching online but no info was available.
I believe it can be done, but I don't know how.
This link also confirms this but gives no further data.

Good luck and please let me know if you have success.

I was hoping to buy this phone to use on Wind's network and save myself a few hundred instead of buying the LG's G2 (end up buying that). I tried contacting Wind and they said it needs to have both the 1700/2100 band but it seems to need something else on top of that. GL and hope you figure it out.

[Q] Verizon Model on Spain

Hello
I bought a Galaxy Nexus i515 on eBay, but I live in Spain.
In description say "CLEAN ESN"
My question is if I can use this phone to WCDMA or GSM once released.
Here in Spain we no longer have CDMA and knowing that the network is using the phone, I wanted to know if installing a radio or something could make it work.
Thank's for the answers.
Greetings.

The LTE network is independent of CDMA or GSM networks. In this case and With The LTE (4G) avaliable on Spain, can be used In this mode, no?
Sorry for all my questions and thank you very much for your time.

YOU CANNOT USE THE PHONE IN SPAIN IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM OTHER THAN WIFI.
end of thread.
As far as I know, the i515 does not do voice over lte. Also, if I remember correctly the i515 still depends on CDMA for authentication before it can use the lte.
Also, wcdma is not anywhere near the same thing as CDMA.
As the person above me has said, the only use able network part in your phone is the Bluetooth and WiFi. Everything else is incompatible with your country's network type.

[Q] Stupid question EU on US

Hi all,
I've bought a EU M8 mobile...I think it's EU as I bought in Dubai.
Sooner I will relocate in US and I've just realised that my mobile potentially could not work there ....is this true?
How can I check?
Thank you in advance for your help.
If it's eu, it'll work fine but I don't think you'll get LTE. I may be wrong. But it'll work
As stated it'll work fine, I know from experience! (Not re-location but hey). I'm not sure about 4G/LTE though.
Thank you and sorry for the delay.
I can't understand why it should not work 4G/LTE.
Are you saying that HTC makes two different model with different frequencies/bands??!?
my phone is actually completely unlock and not branded. if i buy a new US sim cards why do you think that 4G/LTE wont work?

HTC does make two different models(GSM & CDMA). I don't think the frequency/bands on the GSM phone you have will matter much. As I understand it the Qualcomm RF360 Front End solution chip has 40+ bands on the chip exactly for this reason. It makes it more "Global", it should already be capable of receiving 4G/LTE on most frequency/bands available in pretty much any country.
I think the only thing that perhaps influences it is carrier specific requests to lock to certain bands... Probably for roaming purposes and to get more money. But a carrier free device like you have shouldn't have a problem to work(Even LTE) in the US if you insert a local SIM card for it.
But that's just how I understand it from a quick look up I did some time ago, can't know all the details though. You could probably read up more on it for yourself if you're interested.
Qualcomm RF360 front end solution
thank you BerndM14!!
you clearly explain what was in my mind.
i can understand if some locked/carrier phone could have some problem but i would be surprised to discover that a brand new mobile such this will have issue to work overthere.
i'm searching the web as well but it's quite difficult to find clear answer.
i'm just wondering if in case there is some "lock" if those are bypassable flashing a different radio rom
sorry for my bad English
maybe I m wrong (but that is what I have to say as Vodafone Germany employee to my customers)
the One M8 will work fine with US LTE bands cause the EU and the US M8 are technically the same.
that's also the reason why it´s works not with any European LTE network outside Germany

I bought a Sprint lg g3 to use it in my country and it has the 4g network blocked

hi! I am form el salvador and I am really happy with this device, but I just discovered the issue that buying a sprint device implies when I want to activate de data network, it only shows GSM and it is really slow! some "experts" have told me that I need the MSL code form in order to unlock this network. I´ve tried many some methods posted here to get that code, but I failed.
can anybody help me please...

I have gotten an lg g2 form sprint work here in my country. But i cannot find the way the get the MSL code
Wow, are you stupid? You spent ~$500USD on a phone without even confirming you could use it properly?
Sorry if that sounds harsh, but 3 minutes on Google tells me that (at least according to posted info) only Digicel even PLANS deployment of an LTE network in El Salvador right now. So the answer is there is no '4G' network in EL Salvador- assuming Wikipedia is current.
If you're on TIGO, Claro, or Movistar there is no LTE at all according to that info Second, you chose THE WORST (least compatible) model of G3 you could possibly buy. If you want ease-of-use for non-standard markets or international travelling, you need to buy a D855 (European/International common model), D851 (T-Mobile) or maybe D850/852 (AT&T and Canada carriers respectively). Buying a Sprint or Verizon model of just about any phone ever is a recipe for disaster anywhere except their networks because their primary networks are completely different from everyone else. Sprint and Verizon started and continued using CDMA rather than GSM like everyone else, and their deployments of LTE now are different frequency bands and different signalling systems than everyone else too. Neither a G2 or G3 from Sprint will give you anything faster than 2G EDGE speeds for data.
tl;dr get rid of that phone and go find an AT&T D850 for South and Central American carriers, that way you could at least get HSPA 3G service.

T-Mobile would be better with unlocked bootloader but I agree he made a reckless decision

It cost me 300$.. I know I screw it. The point is, last year I got an lg g2 from sprint as well, but I took it to an expert and he got the msl code so that se could have access to the 4g data.. And yes, we do have 4g in some specific areas of our country. So the point is, how do I get that code in order to unlock it

Somewhere on xda I read a thread explaining how to add all bands for most qualcomm snapdragon devices. The good news is I saw a sprint G3 user say he was able to do it. The bad news is I did not save the link and will not find it for you. I suggest you start looking by searching all forums and type unlock bands or something similar, I think it was in a gs4 or gs5 thread. If you fail the xda searching do some google searching. If you do find it I wish you luck it looked like you need to get your hands dirty.
