Folks at Samsung are busy laughing maniacally at all the update questions on the interwebs. Once they are done laughing you will know that they don't really bother unless it helps sell something more - like the Gear. So enjoy your 4.3 for a long time to come. (In my case until Google puts out a usable Nexus 10 2014.)
highly doubt this would happen given the sheer amount of Software optimization Samsung would need to do. Perhaps if we are lucky a custom Rom with 4.4
I would be happy enough if they release a stable update which gets rid of the occasional lags and makes it more fluid. Even if it would be based on 4.3

Well, i read that Galaxy note 3 and another device is getting KitKat update in January, so i am crossing my fingers and hoping that Samsung releases an update for our device too.
No need to cross fingers. I would be surprised if we don't have 4.4 by spring.

Absolutely! Guys, there is one sure thing about Sammy, don't expect any updates until a year later. I purchased the Note2 the same day of release from T-Mobile, a year later I purchased the Note3. I given my Note2 to my wife. A few months later, she gets a update. Now, since my Note 10.1 2014 edition isn't through a carrier, I still wouldn't hold my breath.

I figured it's pretty much a waiting game. I really don't have much trouble anyway other than bt keyboard connectivity ( logitech k810 drops connection with more than 10 seconds inactivity) samsung keyboard is the culprit I'm sure since even with installing swift key and external keyboard helper in order to use qwerty keyboard I get booted back to samsung as defalt. I've changed the bt visibility to never time out and switched off the on screen keyboard with no luck, even tried a different keyboard with the same results. Also it bugs me that the multi window bar and s pen window only allow for select apps. I sent a message to support on Facebook regarding the keyboard issue we'll see what they have to say. I'm trying to decide if I want to root this thing. Thanks for your input!

Thanks much. I believe it could be a h/w issue. I thought it was strange that others were using the same keyboard with mixed results. I'm interested to see what samsung support has to say via Facebook, I contacted them about my perks and they were very helpful so I may end up having to exchange my device.

I like TW and the features it provides even though some of them are admittedly on the parlor trick side. I also like some specific features like SamsungLink, KiesAir, and Group Play which depend on TW. LG's mimicking the features of TW and is the only Android manufacturer gaining market share (Sony's flat and HTC who has been slimming down Sense is in a free fall). So no matter what our individual opinions are the masses seem to like "stuff" with their s/w. If someone with a Nexus loads third party apps (some of dubious quality) to replicate the functionality of an overlay they'll end up with the same (or more) background processes and open threads running using as many resources with poorer integration between functions. I'm a productivity user and consider AOSP a barren wasteland both visually and functionally. I don't race my devices for pink slips, I use them (heavily) to get things done. Samsung's s/w helps me do that. So if the price to pay is less fluid transitions so be it. All just my opinion of course; YMMV.

I totally agree with you 100%. And thats why I wrote the above.
Samsung doesn't offer so much in the GUI and although they have top hardware on their products(like the one I have now SM-P605), still they have the TW which apperantly has a lot of issues especially on the smoothness.
Don't get me wrong here. I love their products and I'm a huge fan.

The G-TabPro 10.1 and Note 10.1 2014 Edition are identical except for the latter having 1GB of extra RAM and S Pen. The former will probably be $100-150 less. Which do you think Samsung wants to sell more of and makes better margins on? They could have had any one of the five new devices on the shelves for the holiday selling season. Why do you think they chose the N10.1-14? With all Samsung's 2014 high-end devices running the same h/w and using the same screen resolution Samsung's development burden has been greatly reduced. It would be moronic of them to leave the more expensive and profitable N10.1-14 on older s/w while launching the cheaper and near identical G-TabPro 10.1 on 4.4 with new s/w features.
My guess is that if the new tablets are launching in February we'll start to see 4.4 and Magazine UX rolling out to N10.1-14 no later than mid-February with leaks starting to pop-up in the next three weeks. The media were using all the new tablets with 4.4 and Magazine UX at CES so the s/w's got to be close to done.
I think will be soon. New version note pro 12 have same hardware like note 10.1 installed 4.4 kitkat and new UX. That's mean samsung ready for 4.4 update after introduce new version tablet.

I thought the same, but many of us came from the Galaxy Note 1 where it was the same difference, 5.3 to 5.5
Alot of it depends on screen quality difference for me, and it would have to be much better for me to pull the trigger on it

I still have the note 1 too. There was a significant difference in software, battery and performance between 1&2. There is not much on the s4 that I can't do on the note 2. I use my 2 for work and a bigger screen would be a benefit. Not saying I won't get the 3 but if the rumours hold true , in my case, there would be no benefit to upgrade. Will see what Sept 4th reveals.

this is the smart thing to do..
I grabbed a note 8.0 a couple of months ago, and it is fantastic; there was a BIG difference between the note 1 and 2, so it made it a worthwhile upgrade; going from the note 2 to the note 3 appears to be nothing more than bragging rights, about having the newest phone.
Until the Note 3 actually comes out, none of these "leaks" have any relevance to most people anyways, so we will just have to wait and see..
I'm happy with my Note 2. The same as I was with my GS2, thus skipping the 3. However, I'm excited to hear about the new software features - I want to see a photo editor that really takes advantage of the digitizer.

A 6" screen would have been nice but I thought the small jump in screen size going from the s3 to s4 wouldnt be noticeable but it is.
I am really looking fwd to sept 4 because until then we really dont know anything for sure.
I will get the 3 more than likely regardless but I wont get rid of my 2 either as its still an amazing device.

Did you see some of the comments on that article? One guy was disappointed because the screen wasn't "at least" 6.5 inches. Really? That's ridiculous.

I would be surprised if we see 4.3 on our device anytime soon. I bet it will be at least 2014 before we see it.
It makes sense from business standpoint to not upgrade the Note 2 to 4.3 while the Note 3 is out for a bit.
Same reason why the Galaxy S3 was never upgraded to 4.2. They want to heat on the S4 as long as they can.

Ya think? From what I've been reading (rumors) it seems like Samsung will be skipping 4.2 in favor of 4.3 and it sounded like its not far off. Maybe within the next couple of months. It would be nice but what you said makes sense also. I guess time will tell.
Wow that pic really shows how lame an upgrade this is. 6'' would have been the natural progression for note 3. This pic makes me feel even more disappointed.
Let's see what Htc and Sony bring to the table then... After 4 Samsung phones in a row for me they finally disappointed me :/

Well, xperia z ultra is horrendous. Great specs but very unwieldy looking. To much upper and lower bezel. One max looks interesting but buying HTC is as likely for me as buying an iPhone (not in this lifetime). Will wait and see what they show before condemning it for screen size alone.
Sent from my SGH-I317 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Problem for me is that, screen size is pretty much the main thing I would like to improve over my Note 2. The multi windows or floating windows option would be much better on a slightly bigger screen not to mention other apps making it more productive using other apps that can benefit from the added size.
The Z ultra has horrible bezels but I dont mind that much. If it was not for the stupid battery I would be all over it.
HTC...well I had a Tilt 2 once..that was my only HTC so not a big fan but at least it is 6".
Then again, I probably wont have floating windows with those so is all a tough decision but looks maybe I will just keep my Note 2 for now :/

Me Too...
It depends on the CPU/RAM for me, at the moment.
1080 would be a nice increase in resolution, but if you are happy with the note 2 (as many of us are) so far, the note 3 doesn't seem like a big step up from what we got already.
That said, I've got an upgrade coming up in a couple months, on one of my lines. So I could get the note 3 on upgrade and not spend a dime.
But, we don't know the whole picture yet.
If they frack with the internals like they did on the note 1, I'm probably going to skip the note 3. Unless the north american version is top tier, and not cutting corners on slower memory or a cut back CPU, it's going to be a hard sell for note 2 owners like all of us.

You have to remember people wanting the screen to get much bigger are a minority, they have to go the way business tells them. After the looks I get with the note already I can safely say most people already consider it huge, so it makes sense they wouldn't want to push it to the point where they would lose most of their sales. We definitely represent a small minority here

Yeah, I agree with this. Most of the people that wanted a bigger screen are the ones in the rooting and modding community. Everyone else that I have met or know always say "man that's a big phone" or "that's just too big". How unfortunate.
I would have actually preferred to have the phone size reduced without the loss of the screen size, but a slight increase in the screen size with much higher resolution is not bad either. Any larger than the current size would be uncomfortable to carry around. If so, it would be better to buy the Note 8 instead!

No more updates from Samsung for our Note 2. Yes I am rooted yes I know how to flash roms been doing it for years. It's just really getting on my nerves how this phone is still a beast and it's pretty much abandoned by Samsung on purpose to herd us to a new phone.
I didn't do a nexus because I was with sprint at the time but since I am gsm now all I need is a nexus with a 5 inch screen.
Sorry about the rant, but it got to me today while lurking the note 2 forums.

Samsung sent updates or for GSII earlier this year even as the GS4 was coming out. I see no reason to fret over loss of support at this point. We should be Ok. The limiting factor frankly is T-Mobile...

Nah...didn't the S2 just finally get Jellybean a few months back. They may put them on a back burner while they put their efforts into big projects like the Note 3 and Android 4.4 but they come back to these other phones after those releases. Technology is moving so fast they must be scrambling to keep up.

Common sense tells me if the S3 is getting it... We'll be getting it around the same time. I doubt Sammy's promoting it due to the Note 3's close launch. Yeah its rather sneaky but it makes sense, right? Good find though!
So it looks nice and all leather was a nice touch but other than that the features are not really breathtaking. Would it at least have an AR blaster? What about air view that's sick was expecting that on note 3 if it doesn't have it then damn might have to go for the s4 .

Useless? You're not trying hard enough. Get Note Buddy, CM S Pen Add-on, and Papyrus all off Play for free. Screenshot hardware shortcuts vary depending on the ROM, Vol-Down+Power is a common one otherwise screenshot can be added to the power menu.
Gimmicks are things like eye tracking, hand waving for scrolling etc. There are tons that only add ROM bloat that have little real value. There's a whole dictionaries worth of these included in the 4.2.2 included with s4, and likely all that crap and more included in 4.3. Sadly most all the UI improvements to Android in 4.2 and 4.3 are whitewashed over in TouchWiz.

The n3 is not revolutionary it's a little upgrade. I have a note 2 and will get the note 3 because I am addicted to technology but the reality it's I am not going to be able to do much more on the new note than the old note.

Actually there are changes - I suggest you check out the off-topic New device/upgrade thread for 2 reasons:
1) This one will be eventually locked as the other is the official.
2) I just left a little nugget there....
About says it all. You devs are wicked clever and am confident it won't be long.

Well, now I need to research if the Note 10.1 2014 is getting the new gui with kitkat. Spec wise, they are virtually the same other than the pen and the tabpro is 2gb ram vs 3gb ram on the 2014. Might need an exchange, if so.
in my opinion, for the difference in price i would get the 2014 10.1 IF I wanted another 10 inch tablet. I have an iPad now but want a smaller tablet, hence getting the 8.4. Had the new nexus 7 and it was too small, especially using the note 3 as my phone.

I personally agree, especially since coming from a Note 10.1 (original) or tab 2, it is far smaller. That said, 7 and 8" tabs are extremely popular..
@Sudbury78 I have the iPad mini with retina and I picked up the 8.4 pro today and I am loving the pro 8.4 with note 3....it's like the perfect combo.. I think I'll be selling my iPad

Kidding. Not interested in starting an os war nor find them particularly valid.
Sky rocket I like it. I have a 3rd gen 64gb ipad with data. It's so slow. I had a nexus 7 and was blazing so I ruled out my wifi. Will most likely get the 8.4 and once rooted use my note 3 as a hot spot when needed.

I'm definitely getting the tab pro 8.4 LTE model when its available lol

Haha yeah probably large parts. Though if I'm honest the magazine UI is pretty slick and it would be awesome to have more control over sources and what's displayed. Back when I had my HTC one a lot of people hated blinkfeed without knowing how to make it interesting to them, once there were ways add your own sources most people converted!

I'm an AOSP guy so I'm definitely a bit biased, but can't go wrong with the hardware in this bad boy.
I really need root so I can hook up a controller for games. That would be sweet!

It should connect without root mine does

Nvm I'm on a nexus 7 my bad
I need it within my 14 day return period. I am still deciding between my original note 10.1 and this tabpro 10.1. Still think I prefer the original multi-windows method. But, I want to be fair and have the root required multi-window app installed which increases it's capabilities.

My thoughts exactly!
This tablet looked promising at first but it won't benefit me going on long trips lack of LTE
Alright, where is the wifi version!??!?!

Tab S 10.5 , Note Pro, Tab Pro are all Exynos too and they all got the update to Lollipop, some to 5.1.
In fact they run the exact same Exynos as us, so there's not much work to be done (in that regard) anyways...
So -yeah- nothing to do with it being Exynos... In fact I'd be much surprised if we were not to get Lolipop too. It's Samsung's pattern, their last update is greeeatly overdue but they eventually deliver. Of course we'll never get Marshmallow as it's over the 2 year window during which Samsung typically supports her products... and then they wonder why Apple is No1 in profits. Ipad 2, a 4.5 year old device and it is still getting updates (ios 4.2.1 to ios 9+ !!)
Yeah I know! It was a joke.

Oh sorry, didn't notice. Sarcasm is sometimes hard to conveyed through text...
Well, at least they kept their promise...
I agree though that 5.1.1 would have been nice at this point. Hell, my LG prepaid phone (which was also only $100) got its first Lollipop update BEFORE this $500 tablet.
Interested to see this update in action though, I hope it gets to the SM-P600 within the next week.
Haven't received it yet, but I think I am sticking with KitKat, with all the Bluetooth audio issues I have had with both my Note Pro and my Note 4, I like that my audio doesn't skip.

It´s 5.1.1 not 5.0.2
It is Android 5.1.1, NOT 5.0.2. The new device simulator is posted here.

First thing right off the bat, comparing to the exynos on the Note pro 12.2, had some lag issues, Google play store issues, but could have been a bad download. As far as new features, very similar features to the Note Pro's 5.0.2. Only thing that is not there is the toolbox bar which can save up to 5 favorite apps. I will test the Bluetooth to see if it skips like the Note Pro and the Note 4.

Side-by-side comparison of the settings left is Note 10.1 2014, right is Note Pro 12.2 with exynos processor

Maybe you need to do a full wipe (factory reset) via recovery.. (to resolve lag and google play issues)
Can you tell me if has popup windows (like note 4 and note 12.2 5.02)?
Thanks.

Updated my P607T to 5.1.1 ODIN
I was running Besonderes 5.0.2 but decided to upgrade to the official version... and pleasantly surprised to find the ODIN version of 5.1.1 on sammobile for my T-Mobile P607T..
Did the update via ODIN but it did not do full wipe... The TouchWiz kept force closing, and I did a factory reset/wipe via recovery. Now it seems to be running fine so far.. It is too early to tell if battery life improved, etc..
Yep, it has pop-up window

Very nice!
Thanks for answering.
My hope that 5.1.1 would come for all sm-p600's model too (sm-p601, sm-p600 and sm-p605).
:fingers-crossed:

Downloaded OTA, but now I can not get Twrp to stick. When I flasb Twrp it says it passed but as soon as it boots up it reverts back to stock recovery. Anyone have a solution?
Is there any hope for SM-P601 give lollipop update?
