[Q] Getting the Phone and Sms.apk On AT&T Galaxy Tab 3 7.0? - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i decided to trade in my Nexus 7 for Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 since it was on sale and the fact it could be used as my main device for calling people instead of using my galaxy note 2. I even watched some reviews for it and saw the Tab with a Phone and Messaging app. But me being me after buying the Tab 3 and looking like a fool in a AT&T store, I realized that the one i bought was the AT&T model instead of the international one. I like the Tab 3 now and was wondering is it possible to get the Phone and Messaging app from the international one and port it to the AT&T one?

I do not believe that it has the necessary hardware built into it so that it can get a phone and mms apk working.
Id say.. return it to att and get your dough$$ back..
Then get the T-211 from Amazon or Negri or Ebay.. or go one bigger and get the 8 incher.... and just swap your sim card from your Note 2 into your new tab and BAM!! A 7 inch phone.... BUT.. NO LTE though.... still H+ is damm good speed in STL where I am...7-9 MPS d/l's...
good luck

check them out for yourself.....
for a few bucks more... go for a larger screen with an 8"incher... it has thin bezels, so the overall dimensions arent that much if any from the 7 inch.
I had a note...with ATT GO phone sim..... pull the sim out and put it in my Galaxy mega...
Bam...6.3 inch phone....
Pull the sim out of the mega.... jam it in my T315 8".. and guess what??
BAM!! an 8 inch phone..works just like your phone... make and receive calls, mms, data,cams.. everything.. at the same time even..
Look at the pictures of the devices..
See the green phone ICON on the home screens??
just like your phone has now!!

Where to get galaxy nexus for t-zone usage?

If I were to buy galaxy nexus, would it better to get it from play store or negri for t-zone usage?
umm they're essentially the same (or can be simply made the same)... so it doesn't matter.

they're the same phone but may ship with different variants,
Play Store: Guaranteed "takju"
Negri: may come in different variants, yakju/yakjuxw/etc....
but nevertheless, you can always flash it to "takju" or "yakju" so yeah it doesn't matter
Well, isn't the one from negri(NTT Docomo) internation brand so tmobile won;t have their imei?

NTT Docomo's version is carrier locked to NTT Docomo. You can fix this by unlocking it.
T-Mobile doesn't need your IMEI. But I don't know what T-Zone is.... I just popped in my SIM card and the phone works with my T-Mobile plan.
The non-Docomo version on Negri is cheaper,
https://negrielectronics.com/samsung-i9250-google-galaxy-nexus-black-unlocked.html
http://www.expansys-usa.com/google-nexus-prime-android-smartphone-unlocked-16gb-224148/ $409 (even cheaper)
play store: $399 but you have to pay taxes is what im told.

I bought mine brand new on ebay. The seller happened to be in US but they are usually sold by Canadian ebayers. Not many people know about it. Unlocked ver is lil more expensive. When u go on ebay, Try 's ii x' in search field then choose cell phones under categories tab on the left side.
Some times, it is found on t989 Unlocked version section. Or u could try ebay.ca(canadian ebay) and then search the phone and then narrow it down to if the seller is shipping to US or not.
I recommend g nexus because price has dropped alot and u can also get us warranty now. I also really like aosp.
Of coaese I am happy with gsiix as u literally experience no lag due to high processor speed and RAM.
As for s ii x it is exactly same as tmobiles g s 2 wihout tmobile logo and they wont make u get android plans. Wifi calling works on s ii x but u will need new tmobile
Sim card version TM9177 just as all other tmobile gs2 users. I tried the sim card to use wifi calling and it worked great. I hope this helps.
Edit: I would wait a little as g s 3 is about to be released. Price for GN and SIIX will likely drop.
HTC sensation xe z715e could be a better choice if u can get one new under 400 and I dont think it uses dual channel hspa+ like the previous two. I could be wrong so u might want to confirm that.
Sent from my Galaxy S 2 X
One more thing that I would like to mention is that HSPA+ can be picky for both gnex and gsiix for ur tzone. depending on ur location. This is different from hsdpa of nexus one, nexus s or hd2 etc. If you are concerned with rather have consistent and good 3g plus connection and if u r on the move alot then I recommend nexus s. If you have to have WiFi calling and good 3g plus connection then I recommend a HD2 but it has to be second revision. Otherwise your digitizer will fail sooner or later.
I ve tried it in mostly eastern part of major US cities. Charlotte, Atlanta, NYC and Boston. I came to this conclusion based on my personal testing and experience so I have no data to back up my cliams. I am just sharing it cuz it might be useful to others.

AT&T Galaxy Note 8

I already have the GN8 wifi and want to get the AT&T LTE verison. I can live without root if I can install 4.2.2. Is 4.2.2 available for AT&T GN8? I only see the GT-N5120 and the device number is different for the AT&T model.

If it's available, I haven't seen it yet. We're at the mercy of AT&T pushing it sadly. Has Samsung officially released it?

I too came from a ipad 2 64 GIG from AT&T. I cannot believe how fast this note 8 is on LTE!!! I love this Note 8, I also have a Galaxy Note 2 and probably getting a Note 3 when it drops... a la the 0 ZERO DOWN AT&T deal. I use this Note 8 for work, home and everywhere in between. I cant put it down... I just hope there will be either an 4.2 or dare I say... 4.3 update!!! And if not I know we have some kick ass developers on this site!!! So maybe we can get what we need and when we want it soon

Like me. I'm using the international NON LTE version. The N5100 on straight talk a AT&T MVNO. Everything works and get between 300kb/s-800kb/s.
Best Phone I have ever bought. I love the big screen.

8.4 lte

theres a 16gb 8.4 tab s LTE verzion for $379.99.
anybody own one?
im barrowing the bigger tab s and i mostly use it to message and its rly uncomfortable.
would 8.4 be less awkward for texting/messaging?

Nah basically what your feeling now, but in a smaller size. But it is easier to hold and 8.4 in vs a whole huge 10.5.

the ipad mini and nexus 7 felts good in hand, so idk how much of a difference the 8.4 will be
i dont have a place near me i can go play with one and the deal is online only
Aside from your rather non descript post breaking XDA rules, I wouldn't bother buying anything Verizon branded if you have any desire to modify it in anyway as you won't be able to.

if i dont need to root and need lte is it ok? im just using it for video/email/browsing/texting, dont see any need to root.
i have an empty tablet line that theyre charging me for until feb 2016 so i kinda want a tablet to put my sim card in. plus i like the bigger tab S, just its too big im used to ipad mini sized tablets. and the 8.4 verizon tab is on sale for $120 off.

That's fine if you're happy with a locked device. However there may come a time when you come across an issue which needs root to solve or an app that you may want to use. Without it your stuck with it.
Root opens so many doors, I would never even consider a device that I couldn't have control over.
The Verizon and AT&T LTE Tab S 8.4 models both have a locked bootloader and cannot be rooted at this time. And possibly never.
The international LTE TAB S 8.4 model # T705 can be rooted/ROM'd. However, it will not work on Verizon, only GSM.
And even then it may not have LTE bands for all GSM carriers, only some.
So on those it doesn't have bands for, you may be limited to 3G as the fastest speed.
There may be a Sprint LTE device out there but I don't know anything about it.
If it is out there, then it's CDMA (like Verizon).
i understand, im mostly asking about form tho.
is the tab s 8.4 pretty comfortable? id be texting alot which is uncomfortable on the bigger tab s

[Q] Is this a viable phone for me?

Hi!
I previously had a Note 4 for a day or two after release, coming from at that time, an iPhone. I subsequently returned the note, kept the iPhone, and recently upgraded to the 6+. Now with ATT's mobile share, I'm looking at adding a second line for how cheap it is. I'd like for that second line to be an android device, to get the best of both worlds. As a result of being out of the mix when it comes to android, or more like never having been in it, I have a couple questions.
I distinctly remember how much junk was on my ATT Note 4. Junk apps from Samsung, junk from ATT- and worst of all, I couldn't do anything about it (no root?). Has that changed? Is there a way to remove these apps, fix touch wiz annoyances, etc? I'd think that would require root, but like I mentioned, I don't know the details of note4 root status, or even rooting in general.
I currently have a Nexus 6 and Oneplus One on order (good prices on both of them), but personally like the Note4 the best- can I change it to make it perfect? Or is it still locked down and junked up?
Thanks for your help!
Don't get the AT&T Note 4. Get the T-Mobile Note 4 and use it on the AT&T network. The AT&T version is locked down whereas the T-Mobile version is not which means it's rootable. It looks like the AT&T Note 4 will never see permanent root, ever.

I just bought my note 4 two weeks ago. If I could go back in time I would have bought the nexus 6. This phone lags too much for my liking. It is actually slower than my g2 was at opening apps. I thought I would like this phone but at this point regret my choice.

So just to be clear, I can root a T-Mobile version of the note 4, and use it on att, with no loss of functionality(network speeds/lte bands/that sort of thing)? That sounds like a really attractive option to me. Would T-Mobile let me walk in and buy a device just straight up?
Thanks for the help!

OK heres what you do if they won't let you buy it straight up. Buy the t mobile version on the payment plan because like that there's no contact or ETF. Go home and make a call for 5 min on T mobile sim, then submit the imei to cell unlocker net. Then in a few days call and cancel the service with Tmobile and pay the remainder of the phone off, which by the way is $100 cheaper then the AT&T version. After receiving the unlock code from cell unlocker stick the AT&T sim in and when it boots it will ask for the unlock code, put it in and your good to go.
I have both versions of the note 4 and the t mobile version works perfect on the AT&T network except you have root, custom roms and kernels. All the rom developers in the note 4 t mobile forum full support the AT&T network in there roms straight out the box.
You might want to wait 3 months for the note 5 because this phone is already dated and is a big investment.
Good luck.

Thanks for the help Sand, that is a great explanation. The tmobile device is clearly better then- no loss of service quality or anything, but still having the root, roms, etc. I think regardless of the imminent release of the note 5, I might still get the four for now, or just keep that incoming OPO One- waiting 3 months for the note 5, plus however much more time for rooting dev is a bit long for me. Regardless, I appreciate your information!

I got too tired of waiting for perm root/bootloader unlock soooo.....

I got a nexus 6. Traded it for my Note 4, plus the guy gave me 50 bucks. So that sweetened the deal for me. Overall I'm very happy with the trade, especially because I have an unlocked bootloader and can put any rom I want on it. So happy beyond belief. I'm sorry to anyone still stuck on their ATT note 4. It was pure boredom for me. Wish everyone on this forum luck, and it was fun while it lasted with you guys!

I feel l ya.
Personally, I won't own a Nexus. I need a top notch camera, and it just falls short.
But between the Note 5 lacking expandable memory, I have chosen to go with the LV V10 (when released) as my next phone, even though I love the Note line. And, of course, AT&T will not ever be in my carrier line again.
This video had some pretty nifty tips to address the battery and expandable memory issues in the note 5 - https://youtu.be/lFyZ5YyAsk4..
Everyone carries a battery pack anyway and I've personally not replaced the battery on note 4 since I bought it last year..

I'm happy for you. Personally I will never buy another Samsung phone again from AT&T. If they want government contracts that much then go right ahead. I'm going to definitely get new LG V10 when it comes out but hoping that the bootloader isn't locked and that I can at least put in a 128gb micr sd memory card. With Samsung doing what they did to make the S6 more like the Note series it's safe to say that the Galaxy Note series is officially dead. It's crazy how Samsung sacrificed their best selling line of phones for another line of phones that fail every year in sales and customer satisfaction. You would have thought that the Galaxy Note series would've became Samsung's new flagship phone. Wish I still had my Note 3 cause it was rooted but I'm stuck now with the Note 4. LG V10 or an iPhone cause those are my only options.

Couple things.
First, placing your pictures in Google, according to their policy you agree to when you use it, allows them to use any of those pictures for advertisement of their products or services. And they can do so without your permission, since you agree to it by using them to store your pics. Frankly, I'm not too keen on that one.
Also, since I listen to a lot of music, but get songs from different sources, Google Music is not an option since you can't listen to songs through them that was not purchased through them.
Music & pictures/camera are my primary concerns when buying a new phone, and I use a lot of space for them. On my Note 4, I've got a 128gb card with a 32gb phone, and I'm down to 12 gigs on the card and 6 on the phone. But personally, I love having everything I want at my fingertips without using external storage or needing to be around a signal.

Looking at the specs for both, it looks like they're MOSTLY identical...except that AT&T and T-Mo have most, but not all, of the same frequencies for UMTS and LTE bands. Everything seems the same, except:
AT&T
UMTS 900 (Band 8)LTE 2600 (Band 7)T-Mobile
UMTS 1700/2100 (Band 4)LTE 900 (Band 8)LTE 1800 (Band 3)
Are the frequencies that AT&T and T-Mo share, those frequencies that they both use most commonly, and the above frequencies are mostly just for increasing available bandwidth for their respective networks? Or is it possible that either of them might use only the above bands, in some areas?
I have no idea about frequency stuff. All I know is that I've read on here about people getting the t-mobile version specifically because the AT&T version is not rootable.
Frequencies Matter

Yes, the frequencies between AT&T and T-Mobile are different and do matter when it comes to data. You will not be able to get access to all towers LTE tech unless the phone has the proper hardware in it. It will limit your 4G usage but you could at least have a rooted phone. You kind of have to pick your poison in that regards.

Actually, from what I could tell, if pdadb.net and wikipedia have their respective info correct (and current), the only frequencies the T-Mobile version doesn't have, that the AT&T version has, are frequencies that aren't even used by any U.S. carriers. According to pdadb.net, the frequencies the AT&T version can use, that aren't available on the T-Mobile Note 4 are UMTS 900 (Band 8), and LTE 2600 (Band 7). According to this Wikipedia article, the LTE2600 band isn't in use anywhere in the US. It's used in Canada, but I don't anticipate visiting there, or anywhere else outside of the US, any time soon. (There's another article that shows similar info about the UMTS900 band, but that's even less relevant.)
So, it looks like I'm looking for a T-Mobile Note 4, if I can find one for cheap, that's not too scratched up, or anything.
I just gave up on my att note 4. Switched to the T-mobile version.

Gave my wife the Note 4 cause she broke her Lg G Pro. Had to use my Nexus 4 for a week. I kind of like the small form factor. Any ways..picked up a Lg G3 off ebay for $150 bucks like new. Enjoying custom roms!
