Don't know about that. I haven't used it yet, but I'd guess it needs location services turned on to work. I'm guessing this thing will probably use a bit more battery over those that manage the things manually.

Works great, but doesn't actually turn WiFi back off when not within range. I let my phone sit for about 30 minutes and WiFi was still switched on. Oh well. Thanks for the post though.
Thanks. I installed the apk, but where is the control panel? I can'tsee any icon or entryin the settings. My ion is rooted

Should be a new setting under wifi.

So strange about Sony firmware. Every firmwares are different. One would think all the apk in the firmware would be the same on the same OS.
Anyway... I like sony design and that was why I bought them
I'm gonna try this out, I am worried about battery use. I'll keep an eye on it for a few days and report back.
I found it as a shortcut. Don't remember seeing anything in the WiFi setting.
Thanks

I've installed on my MIUI ROM and it doesn't show up anywhere. I'll have to test when I switch back to stock.
You have to setup the app and switch it on after installing it. The settings can be found in Settings -> More -> Location based wi-fi. Once you set it up it switches off the WiFi connection as you get out of reach from the the router.

Right, but this does not appear in the MIUI'd settings for some reason.
Why does this happen and is there any way to stop it?

Go to:
Settings/ more settings / mobile networks / CONNECTION OPTIMIZER
then uncheck the box and that will disable the Wifi auto-connection. Hope that helps. I have the same issue the day i got my phone. =)

YES! Thanks, Jeff! I am using Tasker to turn all data connections off at night, but when I plugged it into the USB, it turned WiFi on and I kept getting alerts throughout the night. I understand the principle, but that was annoying.

well, wifi uses a lot less battery than 3g and way less than 4g. the optimizer is a good idea, but just works terribly.

i think there is really a wifi problem with tab 3 7.0 smt210, coz while downloading or surfing the two arrows in the wifi icon most of the time are not lighted. but in my other devices the net are fast. and this is really happening on both my tab and my wife's tab. and hoping that after flashing infamous rom on both tab it will solve the problem but it didn't..
