I bought a slimport adapter for the G pad to output video/audio to my TV so I can watch movies from the tablet. Unfortunately, it doesn't work at all. Could it be that this adapter doesn't work with my ROM (AOKP 4.4.2)? Or is the adapter possibly garbage?
Any advice/experience would be appreciated. Thanks!
Genuine, or not...

I didn't tried yet, but i plan to buy one too. Is the adapter labeled with DP logo?
It's maybe sold has a SlimPort one. They are apparently indenticals...
Regarding AOKP ROM i can't tel sorry.
Can you also try CM11, please?
I think it's rather a ROM than an adapter problem..

It works. It is a problem with the roms. I think we'll have to wait a while for a lot of the kinks the AOSP roms to be worked out. Some sensors and such also doesn't work very well atm. SlimPort deffo works on stock rom as you can see in the video above.

No, It doesn't have any DP logo. I think I'm just going to sell the adapter and try connecting with Miracast.

Yeah, it's probably a ROM issue. I'm not willing to switch to CM right now and re-install everything just to test it. I think I'll try some other mirroring technology like Miracast.

Thanks for the reply. Do you have any experience with Miracast? I bought an adapter for my TV. I'm going to try that to see how it works.
For what it's worth, I bought the Cable Matters slim port adapter I had seen recommended here - as far as I can tell, it's DOA.
I went back and read the reviews on Amazon; it appears that this has become an increasingly common issue with this particular adapter.
I'm still on the stock ROM.

I take it MHL adapters don't work on this?
What about micro HDMI to VGA (which I use on my old playbook to show presentations on projector at work that does not have HDMI)

I've never outputted or inputted anything through hdmi or slimport myself, from a tablet that is. My advice would be to check out what the slimport connector supports.. A specsheet from somewhere. Surely it must be documented somewhere. Since the guy in the vid was able to output audio and video plus doing a usb read, I guess it can do a few things.
Sorry, I only know that the port supports video out.

I don't think that MHL adapters will work, because the G Pad hardware supports Slimport instead. Slimport adapters are available for either HDMI or VGA output. I don't know if anybody here has used a Slimport-VGA adapter, but I assume that it will work.
You can find them on Amazon.
I can confirm that MHL adapter - microUSB to HDMI - does not work.

Other question, does Slimport works on CMB? (I can't post in the CMB thread yet, I'm below the 10 posts restriction... )

Now for all you Nitro HD users who didn't know that it is possible to stream video through the Micro USB port, well yes you can That port is actually a MHL port (Mobile High-def Link), which combines both Micro USB and HDMI features together, and all you need is a MHL adapter to connect your phone to your HDTV and stream movies while having your phone charged.
Now my question goes to those who know about these things. Any idea which MHL adapter is compatible with this phone, or can we use any adapter from any maker? And also, has anybody tried using the MHL capability on this phone?
Well, one would think it wouldn't be proprietary based on the fact that all MHL enabled phones use this as a standard now. I have used a MHL cable from an HTC Raider on a Galaxy S II and it worked just fine.
Does anyone else hear a slight grinding/grainy noise when you plug in the Micro USB? It always makes me feel like I'm breaking it.
any mhl adapter should work.

plug in power? what do you mean? I thought the whole idea behind mhl is that your phone will get charged via hdmi while streaming through it.

I think if the tv supports mhl mode then you don't need to plug in power.
If tv just has hdmi port then you need to plug in power.
The mhl adapter has microusb port for power input.

So my bro got me an Accell MHL adapter for Christmas and I'm finding it doesn't work with my phone. It doesn't even provide a charge. I'm thinking its physical dimensions are such that the connector into the phone doesn't go in far enough (kinda LG's fault for making the port recessed, kinda their fault for making the connector so damn fat). So, if you guys find one that works for cheap, do you think you could hit us with a link?
TL/DR, Accell's doesn't work, please post ones that do

it needs power for mhl to works. did you try to reboot the phone after you plug in mhl and power input for mhl? i tried on samsung infuse mhl adapter and it works!
Yeah, I provided power and performed every possible sequence of hooking it all up that I could think of and also rebooted several times. I really think it's the form factor of the Accell connector combined with our slightly recessed port that causes it to not go in far enough. I just need someone to give me a suggestion of a brand to buy that they know firsthand works well with our P930.

MHL is a standard protocol. Some HDTV and Receivers from Onkyo and Denon are suppporting it it their latest gen products.
Some adaptators support 720p and some can do 1080p.
just a reminder mhl is not supported on any custom rom
Not even on CM10.1?
Has there been any progress made regarding MHL support for custom roms(CM,pacman etc) ?

We just can't use the MHL adapter that is specific for Galaxy S3 / S4.
The standard model (for Galaxy Nexys, Galaxy S2, HTC Evo 4G Tablet, HTC Sensation 4G etc) is the one that works perfectly.

yup i have 2 different MHL adapters i bought some time ago. Both works great. Cheers :good:
I ordered an MHL adapter from Amazon this weekend, they delayed my order and when it was ready to ship they had a snag with my usual form of payment. But by the time I was ready to fix it, the Chromecast had come out.
I wanted the MHL adapter to stream HBO Go content to my TV, since there is no PS3 app and my Samsung TV doesn't have an app for it. With the Chromecast, it seems like this can be fixed by being able to push the content from HBO Go and other sources directly from my phone or my Chrome browser. Looks interesting, and for $35, it's worth a shot. I cancelled my MHL adapter order and placed a (late) order for a Chromecast.
We'll see.

I continued to play around with the MHL adapter. I noticed that the remote control of my TV does not control the ZL when connected. After some searches, I figured that the MHL adapter needs to be RPC/CEC compatible as well. I have a Samsung LED TV with have Anynet+CEC. I used to connect Xperia Arc over HDMI and was able to control from remote control. So when buying MHL adapter make sure it is RPC/CEC compliant!

I too, am looking at this cable. But, I don't want to buy it until I see someone reporting back on the forum if this is fully working with our Xperia ZL.
One particular user comment says this, which is a bit worrying:
Will NOT output 1080p. Only outputs in 720p.
Works ok on Gingerbread... But
ICE CREAM SANDWICH BREAKS THIS MHL ADAPTER.
If you plan on upgrading to ICS... DO NOT BUY.
Any advice/info is appreciated. Thanks.

Yeah i know what are you trying to do, but actually the only way to get wired audio/video signal is to use the slimport adaptor. (With wireless you would use Miracast but this isn't your case) So in your case you must use the slimport, the hdmi to composite adaptor and i think you should be good.

It would work fine with every device that support Slimport, newer devices do like LG G2, G Pad 8.3, Nexus 5 and so on. But you should check on the specifications of your devices. Before Slimport productors used to support MHL, which is almost the same but it keeps busy the USB port and on display that doesn't support MHL you should even buy an adapter which even needs external power supply.. if you can see on the Analogix Slimport adaptor you got a microUSB and the HDMI, the first is just for using it as the device one and HDMI for streaming. I was reading that Slimport has some limitations about the length of the HDMI cable, something like that it needs to be not longer than 50 centimeters otherwise you'd encounter problems..
Anyway i think that the Slimport adapter that costs just 15 bucks will be great.

I think the only way is to use Wi-Fi Direct/DLNA. If you're gonna cast your screen just for viewing youtube, netflix and stuff like that, you could use the Chromecast, which does that particular job. It can't cast the entire screen but movies, audio (and other DLNA stuff) and compatible apps (you need to see on its webpage) can right now. To cast the entire screen you would need the Miracast technology but i don't know if there are any good dongles on the market that permit to do that as chromecast does. I hope you know what I mean, i'm not a native english speaker
You should take a look at the Chromecast if that can do what you need, or you can see Miracast dongles like this but i can't suggest anything
OK, I'm trying to do the same. I bought a slimport adapter and a HDMI to composite adapter. My N7 works just fine from slimport to HDMI to the TV, but doesn't work when I add the HDMI to composite adapter. However, if I hook my cable box through HDMI to the composite adapter, all works well. So its something from that slimport out of the tablet to the other adapter. What I'm trying to do is get the display mirrored in my van for the kids and the van only has composite inputs. I'm at a loss.
