[Q] CyanoMod 007 with A2Ext+: Can't install apps / no free space - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I've installed CyanoMod007 v31 with APPDATA moved to a 2GB ext2-partition on my SD-Card.
Now everything worked fine, except that in the settings, instead of my 2GB memory for apps, it still showed 140MB (though about 350MB are already in use). Still, I had no problems installing apps, so I didn't worry about that too much. But then when I tried to install a large app (150MB), the setup failed after the download completed, and now I can't install or update any app in the play store, because apparently there is not enough free space.
I've already connected the SD card to my notebook to check if it got somehow polluted with temporary data, but the sd-ext partition is fine, 350MB in use of 2GB overall.
So, I'm out of ideas, can someone help me on this?
(Sorry for not posting in the CyanoMod007-thread, but I don't have permission to do so...)

First of all, why ext2? I recommend ext4.
Try doing the partition with 4Ext Recovery.
Also, if it doesn't work I suggest u try Mounts2SD which moves ALL data. (Play Store)

Full! - Why can't I install more applications?

Hey
I'm running CMod 6.0.1 on my rooted HTC Desire (Telus).
All of my apps, with the exception of some few are installed on my 16GB SD card, yet I only have 11MB of internal space remaining? As far as my calculation go, I've only used around 100MB. Does anybody know where my other 400MB went? Why is only so little left?
Thanks in advance
Check the applications for how much data they have (Settings>Applications) I recently had this problem then went to the Browser and found out that it had well over 70mbs data there, which instantly got deleted.

HTC Desire has a specified internal storage space of 512mb. But only about 146MB is available for installing apps. You can search around the forum for more info.
There are ways to increase your internal storage. The simplest is to create an EXT partition using ROM Mananger or gparted. You will also need to use a rom that has A2SD built in.
So the next time you download apps, your apps will be installed on your ext partition. Well most of it. Some apps will still take up internal space.

Or modify the rom before flashing. Remove unwanted apps and replace them with apps that take huge amounts of user-space and rarely is updated (ie google maps and such).
In most roms ive tried its a simple process of delete/drag-drop into the rar-file...and then flash without sign verification.
Got about 100mb free with programs i use installed, and still have ~120mb left on the system-part if i find any new must-have-by-default-app.
But do a nandroid backup before starting if you choose this way, to be able to restore a messup and to see how much space your system.img(?) takes. This to know how much space you have left to put apps on.

[Q] Not enough space

Hi,
I have a problem with installing TitaniumBackup Pro (and maybe more).
I have a Desire (root, S-ON) and used Oxygen. When I tried to install Google Maps I got an error that there isn't enough space and installation failed. Then I switched to GingerVillain (did a full wipe between) where Google Maps was included. I tried to install my Titanium Backup Pro Key and now here the installation fails. On internal memory, cache and ext3 on the SD (1024MB) is enough free space. If I try to update Google Maps over the market, it also fails with the error that there isn't enough space.
What can I do, I don't necessarily want to S-OFF for partitioning layouts, or can it possible be a problem with the SD Card (1st partition 1024MB ext3, rest FAT32)
Thx in advance for help
Phone Stats:
HTC Desire Pvt4
Root
S-ON
GingerVillain 2.2 (altough the problem also exists with Oxygen)

Can I ask how much free space in each right now?
According to A2SDGUI (free/total):
internal: 118MB/150MB
SD-EXT: 718MB/914MB
/cache: 32MB/40MB
I never got the total of cache higher, even with moving it around with an other rom.
But with the current one I did nothing like that, just wiped, install the rom and tried to install and update all my apps.
First partition should never be ext. it should be fat 32.second should be ext.
All a2sd/data2sd scripts refer to the second partition

Thank you!
I will try to repartition, wipe and then install everything from the beginning.
I hope this will work.
No reason why it shouldn't

Two things...
1.) I partitoned with AmonRA (also in the first step), so everything should be ok with the partition layout.
2.) I used the repair ext function of AmonRA and suddenly the installation works. I'm not sure if the now working installation and the repairing are connected but I see no need now to restart with wiping and flashing all over again.
Thanks for the replies anyway!

[Q] Out of space with a2sd on LaidbackNikez JB Alpha9

Hi everyone,
I've installed today the last release of LaidbackNikez JB Rom after a full wipe.
I have a sd-ext partition of 512 Mo.
I followed the install instructions and run a2sd install yny, reboot, and when I restore my apps with TB I have an out of space error.
It seems that a2sd doesn't work.
Anyone have a solution for that ?
512MB is quite small, A2SD could be working as it should, and you may have literally just run out of space...
uninstall something to make room, then install an app like 'diskusage' to browse all your partitions (can do this for any rom), you may find your ext partition full as it contains apps and dalvik-cache
i would backup your sd card, and repartition your sd with a larger ext4 partition (1 to 2GB max depending on how many apps you have), using gparted or 4ext recovery only

I have exactly the same problem. It has been working fine since ICS Beta Rom started with 10 till 18.1, both releases of JB Pre-Alpha 7 & 8. But after upgrading to Alpha 9, I can't restore my backups tooo... I get an error "Not enough space"
Have a Sandisk 16GB Class 4 card, that was working fine till now. Also tried a Tanscend 16GB Class10 card. Same issue. I just go to settings>>Apps, I can see them on the Internal Memory only.
I've discovered on my nexus one, with a2sd yny and a tiny cache partition, that app cache is stored in the data partition. along with app data of course. This is what has caused me to run out space even though I still had plenty of sd-ext remaining.
anyone experiencing this issue will need to run the df command from a terminal or install an app that tells them the usage of each partition. if you have a large enough sd-ext, rerunning a2sd with yyy (ie. moving app data to sd-ext) should solve your problems.

[Q] How to solve insufficient space issue?

Hi there,
Almost every app seems to be too big for my Galaxy Gio flashed with custom ROM Jellybean 4.2.2 (CyanogenMod 10.1) 20130908.
I always get the following message:
Error downloading. There is insufficient space on the device.
Is there anything I can do to being able to install larger apps such as WhatsApp?
Thank you!
I created a secondary (primary) ext4 platform on my sd card and installed Link2SD. On launch it asked me for the partition system (I checked ext4) and created the mount script.
Now after reboot, what am I expected to see?
My internal partitions are still full:
/data: 144 out of 178 used
/system: 193 out of 206 used
Consequently, I still cannot install or update most of the apps.
What to do?
Any advice is appreciated!
I went for the Plus version of Link2SD which also allows me to link data files.
Furthermore, I moved even system apps such as the Play Services and the Play Store.
Now I have sufficient place to install most of the apps, which are then automatically linked to the sdcard by Link2SD.
I also tried the initext method which, however, did not work for me on CM 10.1.
I will stick to this approach now!

Help with storage please.

I've tried the several of the 4.4.4 CM11, ominrom, and currently the carbonrom. All of them I'm having trouble getting several, if any, apps to the sd card.
The only apps that will go are messenger and terminal. The rest stay on the internal drive. However, even after flashing, I'm only left with 100mb to install apps on. After I run the gapps, there's not enough space to install more than one or two apps and the phone is pretty slow. It seems to be a common problem but I've done a ton of reading and believe I've followed all the instructions.
-partitioned exactly how the guide says using 4ext. no problems. ( my card is 64GB)
-a2sd via terminal also works
-my sd card shows in storage
Any help would be appreciated.
- How big is the partition, should be max 2GB.
- Install diskusage app, enable root and browse to your sd-ext partition, check that it is being used, should see /app and /dalvik-cache folders if setup correctly
- your internal memory won't read 'internal + sd-ext'. Keep apps on internal to trick them to sd-ext, so do not 'move to sd'
Thanks... I did a 1GB partition and re: your suggestion, it looks like I have everything is in order.
Does that mean the internal memory is just full with the ROM installation? Should I look at using an older/smaller rom?

You have ~1GB space for apps and dalvik-cache.
When it says 100MB remaining, this does not mean you have 100MB left for apps. This will be used for app data like app settings / saved game data, and app caches. It will still fill up the more you install, but more slowly. Again you can use the diskusage app to browse your /data partition.
The limiting factor is that your are still on stock hboot with only ~147MB actual internal memory (the same as before you rooted)
You can flash a different hboot (requires S-OFF), then flash a corresponding older ROM with smaller /system size like CM7 or Oxygen. That along with equivalent a2sd script will give you more app space. You will always eventually run out of space though
Awesome! Thanks for your time.
