[Q] OTG support for Samsung Galaxy Grand now possible with Sony microUSB pen drives? - Galaxy Grand Duos i9082 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Hello,
Today I came across a blog from Sony. It says it has come up with new product: a pen drive with support for both USB and micro USB support for android smartphones having OTG support. Does this mean we will now be able to use this in Samsung Grand?

The answer is no. Galaxy Grand's hardware does not support USB OTG. Not kernel/firmware problem. It's hardware and you can do nothing about it.

What you mean by external power source?
**You can't connect any USB Device to Galaxy Grand, it simply won't detect including pendrive.

I read a few posts here about otg support for devices and came to know that we need to have external power source for the pendrive to enable the otg support in grand.

ya..just 1 nuclear reactor engine is required as external power source....windmill will be great too...then otg will work -_-.....
it cant ....simply hardware is not that way..only hope for people is kernel tweaks but as sm1 mentioned above hardware wont support even if kernel does..so if that's true... no OTG!

Kernels

Now that we are starting ports and custom roms I think we need to start working on OC'd Kernels and Ext4 and different running states(smartassv2 etc).
I read up on how to compile a kernel but i'm just to lazy for that at the moment.

If you did build a kernel it would be a hack of the HC one.. They havnt released an ICS kernel for our tab yet that Im aware of (unless they posted one already for the a200 for ICS).

why not? i know the USB doesnt pass power but like for example Glitch Kernel for Captivate enabled it and u just need to use the Y cable to pass power to the port and u r in business.

It was a joke. You said "a Kernel with USB Host is to die for !!!" If you "died for it", then you wouldn't be physically able to use it .

[Q] Has anyone seen a ROM with USB Host for a controller?

Hello!!!
Ok so i've been looking, I've searched and still found nothing. Are any of the current rom's available built with USB host? If not, Is anyone working on it? as i will gladly test. Sadly my days of doing it my self are behind me but i have an idea i'd like to share but i require USB host to do it.
Need custom kernel to do this, and for a custom kernel we need to wait for HTC to release kernel source.

Apparently JB Maximus has this but you firstly have to jump the gun and update firmware to 1.28
Whoops see this has already been answered

Connecting pendrive to HOX

Hi guys.
It's possible to connect pendrive to HOX via USB? Anyone tried?
I know it's possible to connect removable devices like pendrives and disks to Nexus 7 via USB. I'd like to do the same with One X.
If you know, please reply
Thanks

USB OTG(the ability to connecy USB drives and hard-drives) should be supported by the kernel. Unfortunately our kernel doesnt support this at the moment.. hopefully JB kernel will ..
So, there is a chance it will be posiible ;D good.
Are there custom kernels for ICS which allow connecting USB Drives? I don't know much about it, but maybe in some ROMs are they applied?
Yes, there are kernels that support host mode, but I'm not sure about OTG. At some point it was suggested that the phone can't supply power, but that may have been disproved. Oh look, a search button!
Could you give me name or link? I've searched for those kernels few times and I couldn't find anything..

No, because I can't remember, but I suspect it would be based on kernel 3.1 or newer, and contain "OTG" or "USB host" mode.
OK. Thank you for your help
If anyone knows good well-made kernel with this function, please inform me in this thread or PM
I don't know which custom kernel supports otg but with the sense jb roms the stock kernel supports it.

Really? You mean if I update my One X to official JB (when it will be released), then stock ROM will contain otg?

You need to use a special OTG cable something called y-cable to make it work with Titanium-KISS kernel. Read more on OTG in it's thread in Dev section.

Your cable won't work, it needs a Y-cable because your pen drive cannot receive power from your phone. I cannot go in details as I don't use one, but there are discussion in the Titanium-KISS thread. You can make your inquiry there.
k but same cable works with S3 and is this hellboy is stopping ?? something like that ??
cool bro i ll check it out ..... but if u help me to mount its great if u have time please find some solution thanks

Ya.. same cable can work with my One X but not One V. Just browse through the Titanium-KISS thread, you will understand more.
example of their discussion : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30579362&postcount=226
thanks bro really u r awesome super fast replies and with sense
