[Q] 4.4.X Camera and App function issues - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I've recently tried out a few 4.4.X roms as daily drivers and found that with various apps the camera doesn't function, for example, launching vine will say " this function is not supported by your device"
and when trying any barcode scanners I cannot get anything to scan.
has anyone else had any experience with this and fixing it?
I'm currently on the Hellfire rom for 4.4 as it has the best stock camera but even it doesn't work. I believe this to be a 4.4 issue only.
Anyone made any progress on this or have information regarding it?
Thanks

I finally just gave up, Did multiple wipes, cleared cache, restarts, everything, clean flashes every time. No dice.
Went back to 4.3 PACMAN for the time being. 4.4 is nice, but not worth severing the app/camera relations.

[Question] Barometer and Compass Aren't Working

Hello everyone.
I'm a new member of XDA Forums, I can't send my message to the related topic, so I want to open a thread here.
I flashed a new ROM, SlimBean, yesterday. I really like that ROM but I have a big problem. Compass is not working and barometer, too. There is a litte application in the Play Store, I can install it when I was using a 4.1.x ROM. I tried to install it again but Store said it is incompetible. Then, I tried another barometer applications but I can't install because of incompatiblity. Also, I can install compass applications but they aren't working. I opened them but there was nothing.
Is it normal in 4.2.x ROMs ? I don't know anything about it. If it is not normal, can someone help me please ?
Thanks.

Im running latest v4.2 slimbean aswell. Ive just tried Smart Compass and SysPressure (uses barometer) and they both work as they should. Maybe you should try wiping and reinstalling the rom.

[Q] Video Camera Issue CM Unofficial 4.4.2 on SM-T310

Hi,
I recently rooted and installed the CyanogenMod 4.4.2 unofficial build on my SM-T310.
On the whole, it looks like a very nice ROM. However, I was wondering if other users were having any problems with the video camera?
When I open the camera app, all is well, but when I switch to video, the screen goes blank and stays that way indefinitely.
I did discover that if I press the home button and then return to the app, the screen returns to normal and the video camera functions at it should, so at least I have that as a workaround.
Is anyone else having the same problem and is the rom developer aware of this issue?
CJ
It's a bug with the new rom. Just read over the new 4.4.2 thread from beginning. I think it's improving. You could also look over the 'next kernel' thread for dual boot options.

Does this rom have a black material design theme?
lilipop roms
So I am running the cyanide L shift kernel version of lolipop or android 5 and I was wondering what the differences are between the two...
Is it the Launcher used? or Is Cyanide L and Liquid Smooth the firmware and the Launchers are a totally different thing? I'm not having any issues with my build right now... its running smooth like butter (only negative thing is my data wifi signal is really bad... I updated to NC1 but heard I may need to go to NC2 or NC4?? I dunno... anyways whats the differences? and I don't mean one is cyanide the other is Liquid smooth... I mean what are the actual differences in detail please...
I really really don't like the launcher (nova) used in the cyanide L build...
Mic issues

Hi i want to thank you for the great work your doing. Im having issues with changing the i/o scheduler in the performance menu. No matter what i pick it stays as row as soon as i exit settings and apply on boot doesnt work either. I have tried clean flash reboot clear cache wipe dalvik and no luck. The only way i can make it stay is by another app.
Seriously, what is going on with VIPER?
No matter how many time I install the driver it's always "Not running, or Driver Status: Abnormal."
I downloaed the se Linux change, and it set it to permissive. Everytime the phone resets it goes back to enforcing. WHy won't it stay on permissive? I am using the default kernel with the LiquidSmooth
I can't get viper to work. At all. This is on a brand new fresh install, wiped away clean internal SDCard, starting completely anew.
This is frustrating the crap out of me.

I flashed latest version "v4.0-2015-01-27", disabled and wiped data for stock Camera app, installed both Open Camera and Nexus Camera and neither are working. The window just goes black and crashes. Any idea on how to fix? People were saying it worked earlier in the thread so maybe it broke in a more recent update, would flashing an older version fix it?
This more updated that the 5.0.2 LP version?
Is this ROM more updated than the 5.0.2 LP ROM that you have fenixus??

Hey. I really like this ROM, however I have a problem with calls. When someone calls me, the phone doesn't ring, just vibrates (sometimes it vibrates just once and that is it). THat is very sad because this ROM is so smooth and fast. Does this happen only on my phone? and also, I am on the slimkat now with cyanogenmod based recovery, so whenever I flash this rom or any other lollipop based ROM, I get the message from the recovery that I may lose the root access. I always chose the Fix option and everything runs just fine with the root access. But, I get this message everytime I go to recovery. Thank you for your great work. Oh, and just to clarify, the above mentioned problems happen on the newest build (3/6/2015) and the previous build (don't remember which one specifically).

Get with fenixus on the main thread on the calling issue. You may have to provide logcats for him. As for the second problem, I believe SuperSU should be automatically flashed when the ROM is flashed, not sure of that's a recovery issue, but I know the auto flashing of SuperSU works on TWRP...

This suffers from the same thing every Slim rom does.
Anytime you set your default Ringtone, when you restart it defaults back to default. I guess because it is on the External SD card. Is there no way around this?
Another thing that is happening is everytime i restart the phone it has to update Google Play services.
I am in the middle of installing the ROM.
When I did the same ROM before, it took a few minutes to install, this time it's just stuck there it looks like.
Have I done something wrong? its been 15minutes or so. I will wait longer.

The best ROM is the one you like. I know you said 4.4.2, but you might want to consider going to a Lollipop ROM. I've been using AryaMod from over in the international Note 3 forum, and it is awesome. Best ROM i've used for the Note 3. It's a Note 4 port, very stable, and is very customizable. Plus, the development is very fast with that ROM. Take a look for yourself.

Yes, it was a little confusing at first. Here's what I did to get it working.
1. I used this thread to upgrade to NK3 baseband and then root it via Odin.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...-to-root-nf4-knox-0x0-effortless-nf4-t2846142
2. Then I downloaded TWRP Manager from the Play store and installed TWRP 2.8.4.0
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jmz.soft.twrpmanager
3. Next, I did a full wipe/data factory reset, then flashed AryaMod
forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58582992&postcount=2034
4. Finally, I rebooted and flashed v2 of the wifi fix here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/themes-apps/wifi-bluetooth-fix-s5-ported-roms-t2938607
That should get you up and running. Enjoy.

From your usage, can you tell us what is working and what is not beside the NFC?
Well...from my experience everything is working. Wifi, bluetooth, gps, etc. I haven't had any fc on anything, and all of the s-pen features work as they should. I haven't dug down and played with all of the settings yet though. There are some advanced settings that I'd like to play with. My speeds on T-Mobile are fantastic, but I don't think that is the ROM.

Hi Techngro,
I think you are on the lollipop rom for couple of days. I am planning to install the AryaMod V2.0 on my stock rom, are there any issues you encountered or any FC. The latest AryaModV3.1 has been released, is it better to install the V2.0 or go with V3.1. Any suggestions.

I haven't flashed the 3.1 ROM yet because I like to wait a while and see if there are any issues with new updates. There have been some reports of some problems, but you can never know whether that is actually the ROM, or just user error (didn't wipe properly, dirty flash, etc.).
My suggestion to you is, since you're going to flash anyway, flash the latest update first (3.1), and see if it works for you. If you have any problems then you can flash 2.0.

Dude, you are using a T-Mobile Note 3 (based on your signature)...
There is simply no ROM that compares to Tweaked ROM. 100% fully functional and tons of customization options.
Some have recommended you move to a Lollipop ROM... Since your statement is avoiding bugs, issues, etc, I would avoid following that bad advice, since every single one of them will be a port, and none of them will have working NFC, and you are bound to not be satisfied. I can't for the life of me understand why people pay 700 bucks for a handheld computer, then ruin it's functionality and strip the cool software and features from it that they paid tons of money for... but to each his own I guess.
Like I said, based on your post, you are best off with Tweaked ROM by dwitherell. I don't know the guy but dang he seems to know his stuff, and does all of his work solo. I've been using his ROMs since I got my Note 2. Won't touch anything else.

can confirm 3.1 works. I tried it out since i like to see what each rom offers and so far havent encountered no bugs and the battery life is amazing. Glad i read into this.
Best ROM out there is the ROM that doesn't mess up your phone, everything works, get and receive all your calls and messages, take great pics, with super battery life. No f/c's ,no freeze, no black unresponsive screen, no incompatible apps.
It's called .................... Stock/rooted/debloated ROM.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow for jflte(Unofficial cm13)

After impatiently waiting for that day to arrive, here it is: Android 6.0 for our dear s4 is there thanks to our great dev @AntaresOne.
He brought us an unofficial cm13 for the unified s4 variants (jflte) which is stable enough to be used as a daily driver. All credits go to him.
Almost all the basic functions work.
FYI, it's a goodbye gift.
Download link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63729768&postcount=312
Please, used the gapps suggested by the dev. Otherwise, you may face bootloop.
Enjoy but remember to thank @AntaresOne for this awesome work!

I'm downloading it right now and going to give it a shot. Hopefully everything works out, including using streaming services like Netflix or Hulu Plus. Will report findings soon.
I have read that cm13 will support tmobile wifi calling will it work with the s4 builds? Is it implemented in this build?

It should work if the signature verification is skipped.
Also be sure that the downloaded file is correct; some of the mirrors do not yield the correct file andd have a different checksum.
The checksums should be:

CRC32: 919fb9b9

Successfully flashed here. However internal and external mic don't work as well as auto time zones. Other than that, I haven't noticed an issue. I guess at first glance it also does not appear to be rooted.
Trying this on my Metro PCS S4 (jfltetmo) since it's not my daily driver and not connected to their network. So far it seems to be stable, but the battery usage is not good at the moment. The top of the list shows "Uncounted" using the battery the most. Not sure what that means. I am willing to help with testing this rom for this model jfltetmo, so if you want any info from this phone, let me know what and how to get it, and I will gladly share.
This thing did not work for me, leaving the phone stuck at the Galaxy S4 screen at boot. Restored using Odin and stock image, my device is the M919V.

It cannot. Since ICS, T-Mobile's WiFi Calling has depended on TouchWiz to work. Sadly, for the S4, TouchWiz is stuck on 4.4.4 KitKat and likely won't be moving up to Lollipop. As of now, I keep a working KK TW Rom backup up as a Nandroid in case I need it but I've since resigned myself to moving on.
