[Q] Root & Install CM 10.2+ (Stable Only) Help, Please - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I have a T-Mobile Galaxy S3 LTE (SGH-T999L) with 4.3 installed. While I love Android, I really do. The 4.3 update from Samsung & Tmo really is just gods awful. My battery life is 10x worse.
I'm looking for rooting instructions and curious if they are different by much from rooting the at&t s3 (I747) device?
Also, is CM 10.2 supporting wifi-calling? Not that it's really important with the lack of minutes I use a month, just want to make sure it's maybe an option still?
And, please... don't aim for the face, if someone decides to flame me due to my post.
Thanks!

Note II LTE and custom rom future?

Hello,
Since there is no custom rom for LTE, i was wondering what is the reason behind that. Are the firmware files for the N7105 device not available or is the source closed unlike N7100. I am currently looking to buy the LTE version, however if the custom rom wont come i will rather go for the N7100 version.
Cheers
PS: I have never owned an android device before and currently use the Nokia N900 (running maemo linux)
1) There is a stock, rooted, deoxed rom available.
2) Samsung have hindered asop development at every pass so support is low.
3) Touchwiz is VASTLY improvesd. No where near perfect but most people are happy.
4) The devs are busy working on the 7100 which is understandable so give them time.
5) The other idea is a patch to make n7100 work. (But it's looking like the changes are more than skin deep.)

I'll be looking to list any XDA N7105 ROMs on my site when they are available. I'm picking up my Note 2 this Friday 16th November.:good:

Should I upgrade to S4 or not?

I have the S3, and S4's 441 ppi Screen is tempting me, but won't our GS3, have those features through a ROM? So should I upgrade or not?
Probably not. Unless you want Touchwiz running on the latest and greatest android build the GS4 is probably not the best way to go if you already have a GS3. Not to mention all those new features will be gone the minute you flash an aosp ROM. So YES if you want Toichwiz on the latest android version (4.2.2) but NO if you're an aosp guy or if you can handle waiting for the new features to be released on the GS3.

If in fact our tmobile s3 do not have an LTE radio then I myself might switch. I currently have the note 2 as well and I'm not 100% happy with either phones.

hmm feel like not worth to upgrade it
too few improvement
S4 is too much like the note 2.
Only plus for me is the quad core.
Transmitted from my SGH-T999.
I'll be upgrading to an S4, without replacing my existing S3 phone.
Outside the 1080P display, the TV remote and some biometric sensors, I'll have the same phone!
Samsung has already been quoted as releasing the software apps that do not require specific S4 hardware for the S3 and Note II. Look for it later this year.
Well if you're getting it for development don't count on many also Roms as cm team have already mentioned that they are not supporting the gs4. :/

I'll just keep mine or upgrade to the 32GB TMO version when it comes out. I'm guessing its the US Snapdragon version (compatible w/ AT&T & TMO) & we should be able to install it on ours w/o any issues. I'm all guessing here.
Definitely wanting to sale my note 2 for that.

That's what I believe it is too.
Why would anyone switch their gs4s to that? Can't aosp just be cooked up from that version? It'll deff be much more bug free then aosp at this point

or you could just install cm10.1 and BOOM you already have stock android experience + great customization
Im just gonna wait to see if there is a rom coming out to install

I wonder now that there is a stock android build coming will cm for s4 be better since they will have the code specifically for this phone?
What's the advantages of this???
Now we got are devices fresh in hand and bam. They... release S4 stock.
Hey we got a new version for you buy again.:thumbdown::thumbdown::thumbdown:

You shouldn't feel bad about your purchase. I'm quite happy with mine so far (except the overheating issue lately).
I don't have the AOSP version yet, so I can't really speak of the features that are/aren't going to be there.
I'm guessing if they make it true stock Android, there will be no Samsung bloat at all.
So it's basically a much more powerful version than any Nexus phone will ever be,
and as such the price is quite high. Personally, I would not consider it at that price.
I'm happy with my T-Mo, and with a few customization here or there, I can always get stock.
This is really geared toward the hard-core Android fans/developers. You can't doubt the S4 has the best internal hardware
of any phone out there, and there lies possibilities.
I also heard the news from google I/O. Does this mean that this version of the S4 will be as open as a nexus and easy for developers to make their custom ROMs for it?

Sony basically did the same thing with the ZR, took complaints and made a new phone out of it
Just purchased a 600$ Ip57 phone? Well there's IP58 now! (Waterproof not resistant)
It's good to have options, but honestly most people that buy pure vanilla Android are experienced users. Most will have no clue rather it's Vanilla or not.
So there in lies the questions. Why put this out after and most that come here that have an s4 already hacked it to death no? So I don't see the point of the users here who want to upgrade to this when you just put a vanilla type ROM on it.

CM only has bugs on non aosp devices. Its just as stable as stock on my galaxy nexus. Having an aosp s4 will allow all the snapdragon s4's to have stable aosp.

Not true. my nexus 4 gets bugs every once in a while.
If the hardware is identical to the tmoble version then you should just be able to flash the image through Odin right? Seems kind of like the galaxy nexus where you flash takju from yakju or whatever and boom, you are getting the Google play version of updates, wallet functionality etc. If anything it says Samsung has opened their flagship to aosp right?
Even if you think $650 is too much this means that potentially, Samsung will get touch wiz updates to new versions faster as there will be nexus level compatibility with each new android update. I'm not saying immediate but they will have an inside track based on the fact that Google will actively update their device through AOSP for at least 2 years.

CM will always have bugs due to the way they change the Android coding. Where it is stable and great work people should never look for a bug free OS

Galaxy S3 - Kitkat Discussion Thread

KitKat has been confirmed for the Galaxy S3 as I had suspected. Use this to discuss Kitkat, and post any relevant information to the release.

So I read a report. May not be real but I don't see what lends it to being fake. The AT&T Galaxy S3 may be updated to Kitkat.. Which means us here at d2tmo should also get it if this holds true.
You decide. Also post anything you find relating to Kitkat on the S3 officially. Thanks!

Samsung has confirmed that the S3 will get kitkat. Now its just a matter of waiting for the update to be finished, sent to T-Mobile to be approved, and then pushed out.
So apparently I cant post links yet but if you go to the android and me website, they have an article with a link to the press statement made by Samsung.
Based on the devices on the list, we will probably have to wait a while, at least a month or two is my guess, just considering how new each device is.
Sidenote: if you have a Nexus 5, why do you care about the S3???
Not a rumor, its been confirmed that all U.S S3 variants will be 4.4.2 It makes a lot of sense for samsung to still update firmware on the still pretty popular and 2 year old device like ours. The only thing that could knock my S3 off its pedestal could be the S5, so I'm waiting for Feb 24th to come and see if it seduces me enough to jump on it
They started rolling out kit kat yssterday. I dontvknow how long for the s3 to get it. But its about time we get it.
Updated to reflect the current release information!
What's the over/under on the likelihood that Knox has undergone a major revamp to try and make it harder to crack in the next release?
I really like my SGS3, but after all of the crap Samsung has pulled against the modding community, I think this will be my last Samsung device.

I appreciate that show of support against samsung. I approve of this message.
I'm just curious why anybody cares about touch wiz kitkat? I've used a few different kitkat roms now including cm11 and they all work pretty well. A few have some quirks but overall they've been easily reliable enough to use everyday. Other than wifi calling what else do you like about TW versus anything else?

I agree with your sentiment. WIFI calling is the only reason I use TW and now, with multiboot, I can have a TW ROM as a secondary ROM and run CM11/AOKP KK as my daily driver.
I'm sure there's a lot of other folks who prefer TW to AOSP - different strokes for different folks.
I've never really liked TW but I'm curious to see how they integrate TW S voice with kit kat Google now.
Sent from my Liquid t999l
Its not that TW is bad by all means...rather its KNOX and the excessive bloat it comes with. There are much worse things than Touchwiz trust me.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Since I posted my other response I've ended up going back to TW 4.3. I didn't know this until I tried it but aosp doesn't have tv out like TW does, at least not using the hd I cable I already have. I miss some of the aosp features but I really don't notice any difference between kitkat and jellybean.
kitkat is officially rolling out for the S4. So its the Note 3 and S4 already with updates. Could the S3 be next or would they go for the Note 2 first and leave us last?

But when will kitkat finally be available for the s3?
I would say a couple months the most
Now is when the s4 is getting kit Kat wow. It's all about market strategy. We probably will get it at the earliest by June. Samsung probably doesn't want a 2 year old device running the same thing too close to when the s5 releases.

Shouldn't be to long considering sprint already released 3 build versions on there device manifest. The sprint galaxy s3 kitkat build is now at NC4 which means it should release this month or the next and t mobile shouldn't be far behind.

EDIT

[Q] Porting ROM

Hi guys, I've read through other threads but I believe my case is very different and felt I should ask. I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 Wifi and I really want to put Kit Kat (4.4.2) on the device but after days of searching, it seems like there has not been a roll out for it yet, even for just the Wifi version. So (please tell me if I'm wrong), I thought maybe I could take a Kit Kat ROM (even stock) from another device such as the Galaxy Note 10.1 and port it to this device. I'm a developer but not for Android. Is this possible?
Or maybe can you point me to some beta version of Kit Kat for this device? Is there any way to get it?
I'm not a dev, but porting cm I think is not possible, I wanna say it has to be built from source.
And flashing a ROM for a different device will only leave you with a brick
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
You can try anything you want. Who knows, you might even be the creator of a new operating system. But then again, you might eventually take your brick to the recycle center. One will not know until one tries.
However, why not just wait for Kit Kat and let the "professional" developers at Samsung do the work for the P5210. I am sure it is not that far behind the others.
galaxy tab 3 10.1 should get kk4.4.2 soon, I think.
just be patient.
