Using the Desire as miracast? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey.
I still have my old Desire laying around gathering dust and I was thinking if I could revive it as a miracast adaptor for my flat screen.
Basically the idea was to hook it up to my flat screen so I can mirror my nexus 4 display on my TV.
Naturally a couple of questions arise.
Does the desire even support being connected via HDMI?
Is there even a software (or specific ROM) to make this possible?
Could I connect other things such as wireless mouse/keyboard or external HDDs?
I never really got into USB otg and all that stuff so bear with me if this sounds completely ridiculous.
Thanks in advance.

I believe this is what you need!

You could go this route:
http://www.cellphoneshop.net/mhlhdmi.html
Read review and make sure the one you're buying works for the Note 2 or S3.
I have one from my ol' S2, bought an adapter for my Note 2 and it works like a charm!
Nope.
You need the mhl adapter like others suggested unfortunately. Unless you can find one locally than there is nothing you can do.
You need an mhl cable. More specifically the one from samsung because they made ours non standard.

needs to be an 11 pin MHL HDMI output adapter...

* * Cable that does everything smart dock does? OTG USB, HDMI, Charge etc

Hi guys,
I'm interested to know if there's a cable that can do everything that the smart dock does as I don't like the fact I can't use the smart dock in landscape mode.
I want to connect the Note 2 to a screen via HDMI, keep it charged/charging and have a female USB port so I can connect a hub/PS3 controller/Memory stick etc.
Also, I've read online that I may need to root to get all this functionality working?
Sorry if this has been asked before, I'm new to the Android community, just finished using BlackBerry.
Thanks
That's the dream. For now an non existant one...

Netflix video output low res and compressed!

I have a MHL hdmi adapter and it works great with everything but netflix. I really want to use it for netflix but the video looks horrible on the TV. Again everything else out of the phone looks great. Games, movies, web browser. Just for some reason netflix wont output correctly. Any ideas on how to make this work? Thanks.
I have the same problem

it's just the Netflix app. Other devices suffer from this issue as well. I've seen a video where the Galaxy S3 did it as well.
I have a ASUS Infinity Pad (TF700T) which is running Android 4.1.1 too, and Netflix doesn't do it. The big difference between it and the GN2 it uses a microHDMI instead of MHL.
Same problem here with both the smart dock and the samsung mhl cable.
Netflix does NOT have this problem on the evo lte which uses mhl*.
* Regular standard 5 pin usb mhl not this retarded non standard proprietary special 9 pin samsung thing they somehow get to call mhl even though it's a completely different spec.

Sorry misremembered. You're right 11 pin.
A standard 5 pin mhl cable does not work on the note2.

Tv Out?

I was just wondering, does the note 2 support analogue tv out (via headphone jack) like the galaxy s?
I have a none hd tv in my bedroom but can't figure out how to watch movies from my phone on it.
I already have the tv out cable from a nokia 5800 which also worked on my old n8.
Kind regards
Chiller.

No not hdmi... my bedroom tv is from the stone age, I am asking about analogue tv connection through the headphone socket. The Galaxy S has the feature, I just want to know if the Note 2 can also do it and how.
U can buy the mhl to hdmi converter... Then a hdmi to rca converter. That'll do. Most crt tv uses rca cable. That's the yellow red White cables.

Do you have the cable, phone and tv? Try it yourself.
Otherwise ask in the question section.
I tried it. It wont work. Only the sound. No screen. U need mhl for this. Your said cable won't work with note 2

Nexus 7 USB port repair

Here guys I've broken my USB port for sure. I had it charging when it slipped off the table and DDT'd on the charger cord. I knew it was broken before I picked it up. Now I'm stuck using a wireless charger, which is cool, but doesn't charge as fast and now I have no way of connecting it to the computer. Has anyone had any luck repairing their's or a company that will do it besides Asus. Maybe a part?

I don't know about where you can get it repaired but in the meantime use airdroid to file transfer wirelessly to your computer
