Official InFriction ROM for otter!!!
Hello everyone,

Key Features:
Memory Optimization: 1)More free ram
2)Less file size (173 mb vs 182 mb + 123 mb)
3)Useless apps removed
4)Performane Tweaks!!! Ultra smooth operations!

Apps removed:
1) CM Account - I don't think its so useful, eats ram.

3) Sound Recorder, Voice Dialer, the pesky phone apps, and apps that need microphone.
4) Quick Search Box
5) Video Editor
6) More that I Forgot ~ Bluetooth , DSP Manager...

Im right now cleaning up all useless apk's. Im also trying to include gapps within the rom itself, the basic ones only like play store. This will save us hefty on RAM

So all you will do is remove useless apps and include gapps? I dont see much of plus side than a regular CM Nightly.Sure, removing some useless apps might give some performance plus, but how will Gapps help? I mean, Gapps will only include a far larger package to download and not everyone like Gapps.

I'm not going to hate
Keep up the good work, love having an old device with tons of dev support and a bunch of roms to choose from, keep em coming.
Running smooth at this point, all the major features are working. The YouTube bug is present on a bunch of devices and cm11 builds, so it's probably just a side effect of using a cm nightly as a base.

I mean removing sound recorder, voice dailer, CMAccount(Uses a lot of RAM, it keeps running), CMUpdater, etc.
I mean only gmail and google play store, as I don't think people even touch hangouts or g+. You can always download the others from there itself.
The rom without the gapps is now about 158 mb, with a new boot animation that is 8mb bigger than the previous stock boot animation.

More ram is always better imo.
I just wish someone could look at the kernel and see if any ram could be recovered there as well, like mpokswith did for the Galaxy nexus with his super ram kernel. Anything not used on the kindle like telephony or video recording may have ram still being reserved for it.

Found the YouTube solution, build 20131225 released. OP updated!

I didn't mean hate on my post (even though I gotta admit it kinda sounded like), but I really find it weird to make a ROM and do something that a user can do without problem. Sorry if it did offend anyone, but I will express my positive compliments on your work, although I would wqish for such ROM too be more "Unique".

Just to be clear this rom is just the nightlies with you removing various apps and including pieces of gapps (which I question the legality of that in itself)?
Not trying to hate but I am curious how that works. Considering XDA's rules here I am not sure this ROM is entirely legit. I could be mistaken and maybe you have made custom tweaks. Trying to learn what you have done here.

I'm trying to incorporate halo, pie controls, tablet ui. Just not able to do those at the moment. I'm trying my best to do it so. I'm testing builds every 12 hours, to see if they work. I'm also trying to fix bugs that are there in the cm11 builds. And my main point is focusing on free ram. That is the reason I'm including only the Google play store, removing apps.
The 1ghz processor is good enough as of today, but 512mb ram isn't. Halo's floating window will make us save RAM.
As far as the custom tweaks, I have added some tweaks for extra smoothness and a higher antutu score(mine is always 10200+)

Remember Barebones CM7 and Simple CM9? They both started off as roms with removed apps. Of course they evolved over time and features and tweaks were added. Androvista is adding things later, just give him time. Btw I'm not singling you out or anything, rather I'm addressing all the people who don't like this.

I tried this rom twice today and both times it said Google services have stopped and it would not let me log into the Google play store.

Question and Answer
Q - How do i get this?
A- Simply download, copy it to your sd card, boot into twrp, and flash it. Don't have TWRP, FFF Bootloader, Or even a root? Download THIS.
Q - My Kindle is stuck in a bootloop (It means it wont get past the bootscreen)
A - This seems to be a common issue if you don't wipe your device completely. So wipe cache, dalvik cache, factory reset, system.
Q - What are those things that you can download on the second post?
A - Well those are called mods they add little tweaks and other things to your device if you flash them. I have screenshots posted so you can see each mod.
Q - How do i get those mods?
A - Simple just pick your choice, then flash the same way you did with the rom.
Q - I dont like this mod is there a way to remove it?
A - Some of the mods include a link to remove it just flash it. If a mod does not include a link to remove it just do this NOTE YOU WILL LOOSE ALL OTHER MODS. Get your glazed rom and flash that but only wipe cache and dalvik cache.
Q - Will this be getting Aroma Soon or Linaro?
A - I will inplement aroma as soon as we get the touchscreen working. I dont think this rom will ever get linaro due to some reason. Linaro is not fully stable and not fully developed for CM9. Linaro is very buggy and many apps will not work. According to gederom linaro does not make much difference in performance maybe just a little bit but not enough to change this whole rom. I might implement linaro later on whenever a fully functional linaro is released but for now NO LINARO.
Q - I hate this rom or i hate one of the things in it.
A - Well this is not the only rom if you want something changed you can either give me a suggestion or do it YOURSELF. There are many other roms out there. Maybe this is your favorite rom or maybe not it depends on what kind of view you look at this.
Q - How often will you be updating this.
A - Very frequently maybe twice a week.
Q - I love this rom so MUCH is there a way i can ever repay you?
A - Yes, by hitting that thanks button and giving me your user experience view on it. If you really would like to thank me you can do so by donating. That is the only thing keeping me going and making future developments.
Q - Do you have any other roms maybe a much simpler one?
A - Yes SIMPLE CM9, hence the name simple cm9.
Q - YOU F*CK*ED UP MY KINDLE.
A - Read the disclaimer, and i highly doubt this rom can mess up your device. Well only if you were messing with things your werent supposed to.
Q - I want to develop mods for this.
A - Everyone starts out as a noob you slowly learn more and more as you go, maybe you just are not ready for developing or maybe you are. If that is so you can make a mod and just post it or PM me and i will surely take a look at it and maybe put it in the mods section. Or you can just find a really cool tweak online or mod and JUST PM me ONLY and i might implement it or add it to the mod section.
Q - My device is slow after flashing.
A - The device is slow because it is building the cache just give it some time and reboot it should fix that issue.
Q - My problem is not on here?
A - Please do not start a new thread post it on here or PM me and you will surely find a solution.
I'll give this a try
you know i'm flashin' this in a few
Please test and let me know if there are Bad Bugs Lying around. Thanks.
ive been waiting for this as you can tell
Has anyone been able to get this to download. I keep getting download unsuccessful

So far, it's running great. Just two bugs I've noticed so far:
- The screen orientation when switching from landscape to portrait is a bit delayed. Same thing when opening apps.
- A LOT of apps are missing from the Play Market, including YouTube and Amazon Mobile. I tried modifying the build.prop file, but no luck.
Still, this ROM rocks! Great job!

For the market apps that are seen as not compatible (like YouTube), is there a reasonable way to get them working? Would sideloading the apk work?

Side loading would work but I'm sure we can find a way to fix that issue. I noticed that issue in the 6/8 build of simple CM9 but when he updated it on the tenth it was working again.

You can sideload .apk files just fine. I used Titanium Backup to restore my apps. The problem is, since so many are incompatible, they won't update.
Normally you can either modify or replace the build.prop file using Root Explorer (as I did), but it didn't resolve the missing-incompatible apps issue.

Always when switching orientation the device takes longer on all roms due to the fact that it first has to detect what position its being placed in and transition from there. Are you sure about when opening apps i stood up last night testing this rom like crazy and im pretty sure apps are snappy. Maybe try reflashing? Yeah i realized my mistake on the play store apps being fixed now.

----------------------------------------------------
Hi everyone.
This is a notice to everyone that BrassDroid is being discontinued. We had a lot of fun doing it and we have learned a lot about the Android system.
However we are currently working on a few other projects including some games for android and maybe, before long, iPhone that is taking up the majority of our time.
When JellyBean 4.2 was released we felt there was only little we could do to improve the ROM... Maybe add the quick link bar at the top (as well as leaving Google's extra Notification area), we were also considering implementing the dual screen from the S3 and maybe an optional unity like menu that could be swiped from the left side (Think that may also on the S3). But as mentioned before, we just don't have the time these days. :crying:
We'd like to thank everyone who helped us through this immense learning curve. We were complete noobs to the programming scene (building a website was our limit) when we started this and cannot thank you all enough for being guinea pigs We have really enjoyed doing this project and appreciate the time you've spent testing our ROM's (especially our friends across the pond who were willing to try our blind built LTE ones).
Once again thank you to everyone who helped us and tested for us, we couldn't have done it without you
Maybe our paths will cross again soon
-----------------------------------------------------------
We have recently found ourselves being caught up in numerous projects and are not quite able to keep up the regular updates as you may have noticed. We just want to take this opportunity to say that they will likely become slightly farther apart. I'd like to think that at the most they will be every two weeks. Hopefully more regular though to keep in-line with the current CM changes (however we are slowly building our own ROM from the AOSP that we hope to use instead of CM... however this is a long time away yet)
We'd like thank everyone for their support during the development of this ROM and hope you continue to enjoy it (If you have )
A BrassFeet ROM for Galaxy Nexus.
Here we have BrassDroid, a collaboration between PjFlo and DeeToTheVee.
This is a CM10 Kang [All props to them, they always do a fantastic job!],
compiled with the brilliant and energy efficient, Trinity Kernel by, Morfic.
We have found this to be a great combination of power and battery life.
This ROM also includes a few build.prop tweaks as well and some shaven fat.
The Toro version is being built BLIND. We do not have the device so unfortunately, you are our testers!
However we have had confirmation from XDA user Baby_Phil who is already using the ROM (B3), that everything is working and that it is stable.
(Thanks for having confidence in us Baby_Phil!!)
Stable CM10 Source
Choice of Trinity or Franco Kernel.
Trebuchet.
Ability to move clock to the centre. (Temporarily removed - This is due to notification clashing with the clock)
NavBar mods, Menu, Search etc.
Extra browser controls.
Improved scrolling.
Improved dithering.
Google apps included!
Added smart stay app for keeping the screen on when looking at it (Disabled by default)
All new Android 4.2 features!
New Android camera with fully functional PhotoSphere!
New Android gesture keyboard (YOU NEED TO ENABLE THIS YOURSELF!!!!)
Go to settings - language and input and set the keyboard to Android Keyboard. (NOT THE AOSP ONE!!)
BrassDroid RC3 - 07/11/2012
PLEASE READ!!!!
THERE WILL BE A PERIOD ON FIRST BOOT WHERE THE PHONE WILL RESTART AND ON SECOND BOOT ATTEMPT THE SCREEN WILL GO BLACK. THE SCREEN GOING BLACK IS DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE BOOTANIMATION DOES NOT RUN LONG ENOUGH. BE PATIENT IT WILL BOOT!
WE WILL MAKE A NEW ONE BEFORE LONG BUT WE'RE NOT VISUAL DESIGNERS SO DON'T EXPECT TO BE BLOWN AWAY!
We strongly recommend a full wipe before installing this update as it will be replacing the camera app. It requires the Gallery2 apk to be removed so that GalleryGoogle can be installed. (Although PJflo did a dirty flash and all was fine.)
If you are comfortable with doing this manually then a dirty flash should be fine. If you're unsure then just do a wipe and then install the new update.

If you are coming from another CM10 build; remove any screen customisations (gamma etc.) before wiping and flashing this rom!

Future updates coming soon!
Please let us know your thoughts below, and enjoy BrassDroid!
Changelog:
RC3 07/11/2012
Latest feature listing (kind of a changelog but not quite)
Disabled centre clock for now as there has been some issues compiling with the latest source. It will hopefully be back though - main issue is that notifications are overlapping the time and this looks pretty ugly so... we'll see.
Disabled our default notification colour due to some reported issues, once again will be back soon.
Profiles added again (will, in final build, be disabled by default though)
Status bar power widget now has with most common widgets
Nav bar mods:
Ability to add and remove buttons from the navbar
(height adjustment will come in final build)
New stopwatch and countdown added to desk clock
Enabled development by default and some options within it
loads of the other general CM additions - far too many to name all of them
Choice of Trinity or Franco Kernel.
Disabled and removed CM updater to stop any updates to a CM build. We will remove all references to any Cyanogen features for stable. (Not to discredit them of course, just to stop conflicts)
Almost latest gapps. (Some like Chrome and Earth will need to be installed manually by you)
New cyanogen file manager - removed es file explorer
New data folder for apps some users may wish to uninstall such as facebook, instagram, franco updater etc etc
Added smart stay app for keeping the screen on when looking at it (Disabled by default)
New camera and gallery app including photosphere
New keyboard from Android 4.2 with gesture features
RC2 changes missed... mainly CM updates

This changelog will be updated when I find the file with the list of changes we've made.

Flashed ok. Initial boot took a little longer then other jb builds i have tried.
I did a full wipe before installing.
System, cache, data and dalvik cache
Two cameras
Two galleries.
One camera works but i did not try to take a pic yet, other one failed to connect.
Both galleries wouldn't show my pics, wiping the cache and dalvik cache resolved the issue but still have two galleries and still have two cameras.
I have read about this issue, I believe it involved gapps some how but i could be wrong.
Checked the md5 before hand and they match so it wasn't a bad download.
Other then that very smooth but I hope you guys look into the two cameras and two galleries. In the mean time I'll be testing the basic features for now. I did download over 4g, I'll try WiFi later today.
Time for bed.
I'll report back.

Hi thanks for trying the rom and for the feedback!
We are aware of the duplicate gallery, it was a schoolboy error and we will be uploading a new build today with this issue hopefully resolved + latest CM source + a couple of minor updates of our own. It was basically we forgot to remove gallery2 when we added GoogleGallery - Duh!
Anywho, we are compiling now and hope to have it up later today. The gsm build we have just done is much faster to boot and, so far, has had no bugs

Try wiping data and davlik cache from advanced menu.. also maybe try a different link.
Please try what PJflo has suggested
We have had reports that the B3 build works but you will need to remove the /system/app/Gallery2 to remove the duplicate camera.
Unfortunately we cannot test this rom ourselves as we do not have this phone and live in the UK
However we will look into what could be causing this (if the full wipe doesn't work) and hope to have a working build asap

Remember Jelly Baby, it has all of those tweaks plus some more as its 4.3.1 I would try both, but this is definitely blazing! BTW it's not just build prop tweaks, I spent a LOT of time on this. I wouldn't release a new ROM just for build prop tweaks, and judging by that thread, most of which are just placebo anyway.

That's exactly what I'm saying -- GEL and mobile data are the only differences in your build.
"Faster" with only media "tweaks" applied to build.prop? Mind sharing how is it possible?
Speaking of "proven to work"...

These are the only tweaks you applied. It just can't be "faster" in any way possible.
Initially I thought that you finally managed to build Android from source - after all PMs you sent me, you should get at least somewhere!
Honestly, I was disappointed.
Again, it's not bad that you're modifying others' work -- we all started with something small. But then you should at least give a proper description of your work and not claim something that isn't true. Remember, running a diff between two builds will show everything you did, and trying to cheat here won't do anything good.
At the moment, JM is my build with GEL on top of it.
I believe you'll add more features to it. Ad-blocking hosts file, zipalign scripts, maybe some apks removal -- all that is currently missing.
Just be fair, that's the only thing I'm asking you as a developer.

I haven't claimed anything, how am I cheating, its not hard to add hosts scripts and stuff, I'm still working, this is only the first build. If you don't like it, then why tell me I can build from source and give me tips. Jelly Baby started small like this and look where it is now. I WILL add more tweaks, calm down. Now can we please keep this on topic. Also, I've read various places that those build prop tweaks work, one post in some random thread is not going to change my mind.

If you refuse to build from source you're gonna have to do more things than zipkang and chuck in some build.prop tweaks. Also listing features that are already in CyanogenMod such as T9 dialer isn't gonna fool anyone. Of course you've read in various places that those tweaks work, the amount of stupid scripts in the software development and hacking section of XDA is absolutely astounding. However there are multiple people who have been through the actual source code of android and PROVED that the build.prop tweaks do not work (http://www.jeffmixon.com/examining-build-prop-tweaks-for-android-ics-a-comprehensive-guide-part-1/ ; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2544330). Note how I say proved: these people haven't made grand claims and fancy signatures, they've observed, tested, and given an objective answer.
Ok you guys stick with your opinions. As long as others are happy I don't mind.

Q: I grep-ped through the source code and in no place those props are used. Are you milking thanks?

Random people? Someone like NeverGone\RU who has been here a lot longer than you deserves a lot more respect.
I told you stating you were 13 was stupid. I tried "your" ROM and it worked pretty well. Hell I actually used it as stable for a couple of months. Now I was going to try this ROM out but first, you have been blantely showed off as a rip/copy. I dont care but that in the XDA community is a NO NO. Later a complete disrespect for someone like NeverGone who has obviously had more time deving that you.
And Im not a fan of things NeverGone has done either, Ive ripped on him too so this isnt me being his fan or a antimasterleron.
I apoligize to myself for actually thinking you were a real dev. Shame, you had potential but you ruined it.

I just build one from sources for toroplus without any mod.
Thank you Burstlam!
KNOWN ISSUE and COMMON QUESTIONS
1. Don't dirty flash over it , get full wipe and clean before you update from other genius works.
2. Flashing kernels : 3rd party kernel that consist of CM ramdisk(ie flash with a boot.img image) is not compatible with this rom.
3. On restoring App with Titanium Backup: for those who switching roms all the time, it is recommend to wipe dalvik cache again with recovery.
dalvik cache generated by different rom build from different toolchains may not be compatible. You better do it prior to ART conversion.
4. If you flash SuperSu over this rom, pls checked "Enable su during boot" option in menu, otherwise, root privileges won't work
5. For dev reason I have switch adb logging on in developer options. Turn it off if you don't need it and somehow it save battery and
better performance.
6. Currently no proper ui restart function presents, dpi changes and some ui changes need to check the system ui restart option (under developer options) or even a reboot(using hot reboot option should work in most cases) .
7. Wifi Display Support : You need to check the option "Wireless display certification" under developer options to work properly.
ChangeLog

OMG I'm sooo going to try this as soon as I get home today. Wifi display has been something I've been looking for forever! Thanks!
this 2nd build for toroplus is amazing. it's also the first 4.4.2 rom that i have tried that has bluetooth media streaming to my car perfectly (aside from slim, which appears to be using an older bluetooth setup)
thank you for this. solid and amazing.
Great ROM! Installed yesterday, and so far everything works. 3g/4g connectivity, bluetooth, etc. And wifi display works beautifully. I can now finally make use of my miracast dongle.
Edit cam also works just fine. Love this.
This is the fourth ROM I've flashed today and the first one I haven't been able to crash with heavy multitasking. I'll have to see how the data switching goes tomorrow, and if all goes well then this will be my daily. Definitely one of the most underrated ROMs in the forum. One question though, how do you change the lockscreen targets?
Edit: I spoke too soon. Crashed logging into tapatalk while listening to music.

This ROM is better than any that are being developed for the Nexus 5 in terms of features.....there are literally no ROMs in the N5 forums that have pie built in at this point and I'm trying to figure out where you pulled the lockscreen notification feature from as well. Great job with this.....I think you should head over and build for the Nexus 5 too. Keep it up!!

Yeah I saw that in the OP but if you look at the official PA 4.0 beta...it does not have that feature that us why I'm confused

The stock messaging is included you can make it default through settings in hangouts.
Also, I found the lock screen settings in the security tab. Again, excellent Rom and kernel!

Thanks for the heads up, I know I'm a dummy but, this old dog is learning a new trick and hangouts hasn't been too bad...
And yes this has been an excellent rom and battery life has been pretty decent for me as well, for some reason my Gnex loves the slim roms because I always get crazy life with it.
I concur, [lock-screen notifications] is the most useful feature I never knew I needed!
I am having only a couple of issues with the ROM though.
1. The pop-up app-picker is not remembering my preferences when I select the "always" button.
2. Data switching isn't working correctly. I assume it's using the same method as CM? The problems arise in spotty 4g areas or if just on the edge of LTE coverage. From home I can literally watch my 4g pop on and of about every two seconds... switch back and forth with 3g, and the whole time not have data. Out traveling, the data is quick to switch towers and even though the icon shows up white the data is non-existent. I had to toggle air-plane and reboot multiple times today. I would best describe the data switching as overly aggressive. With that being said, Omni is the only ROM for toroplus that can properly handle data switching in my geographic area. Whatever they did to change it in their 1.05 nightly really nailed it. Is there any way to implement the OMNI data switching methods in this ROM?
Outside of that I absolutely love this ROM. Butter smooth, stable, voice+ support, and lockscreen notifications FTW. If data switching worked better this would for sure be my daily driver.
Best ROM I've tried yet aosp-wise. Very smooth and plays games well which I haven't seen yet.
My house has a tough time with reception and although hands free activation went like a breeze, I had trouble receiving an MMS message which made me nervous so I switched back to stock as I get a lot for work. Will get a better test on network when I try it this weekend

Minfree update:
After testing my new minfrees for an hour or so, it seems I havnt got a single launcher redraw and the launcher is smooth but if I'm listening to music and swap to let's say pocket to read and article I saved, and swap back to music, the music app takes a second to reload the UI (its not as bad as in CM12)

Oh boy, this is going to be gr8! One of the most things that bothered me on Lollipop builds was redraws and animation lagging... Maybe some people don't get upset with those problems, but imo i do
Gonna wait until March 3rd and hope everything work fine! Thanks for bringing it to us Pizza! You're one of the most awesome devs over here

This should be interesting! Not going to flash straight away, will wait and see some more reviews before I do. Very excited by the RAM screenshot. Very impressive!
Yeeahhh Boiiii !!
Cant wait for it man
Im ready to touch it (the rom) XD
Definitely i'll miss the features from other roms but i prefer speed and better multitasking over features so I'll definitely try this ROM.??
@Pizza_Dox can you please let me know that expanded desktop mode option is available in this rom coz i got used to it on other cm based roms . If NO please add that option coz many xposed apps and stuff like that dint satisfied me the way it satisfied..
@Pizza_Dox
Hi, are you sure that we will get 60 fps on this rom. I dont think only debloating will be enough for this, a lot of optimzations and improvements will have to be made to the os, almost like project butter to recover from the performance drop of lollipop. However, I hope to be wrong.
This looks awesome! Was just wondering why in the screenshots you're still using kitkat's phone and messaging icons, don't you prefer lollipop's ones?

Thanks , I know, I prefer speed and performance and etc... However customization can be achieved via xposed.

Sorry it isn't included by default, u can use xposed, I don't include It by default because it removes from the ROMs smoothness...

Yes, I've debloated and opticharged, refer to my microkat thread as to what opticharging is, its the main optimization that allows the ROM to be smooth, debloating dosn't do that much

Thanks i think I said somewhere that that was #19 build, the final build is build #21, the ROM has lollipop messenger and dialer prep included!
Thanks for all the replies guys, love the hype
A little *bad* note: sub 01 & sub 02 bug existent, I'll contact Shawn and ask for a fix!
Also the ROM has been very smooth for me all day and a friend even said it was comparable to his nexus 5 running stock.
