No 64GB Ext SD after MK3 upgrade - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I've searched for many hours and read many threads, but can't find anything on how to fix this.
I upgraded to MK3 following Cnexus instructions in this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2538543
Everything appears to be working fine, but the S3 no longer recognizes the External SD card (64GB) after the upgraded,,. It can be read by my PC, and the S3 will mount/read smaller SD cards (I do not have a 32GB, but it mounts 16GB, 4GB and 32MB SD cards just fine).
My CWR recovery will not read external SD either.. and not sure if I should apply the img in the following thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2391616
Internal SD is working fine.. just can't mount the 64GB microSD on my S3.
any help or directional pointers would be great...
thanks..

64GB SD Cards should be formatted to FAT32 for the S3.

Or flash DKP Kernel for ExFat and/or Fat32 64gb support.

Thanks for the reply... but this is not a new 64GB card.. it's been in my S3 and working just fine all of 2013 w thru the MA6, MB1 and MD4 updates.. it's only following Cnexus MK3 upgrade installs that it has stopped working. It won't mount the SD card.. it will hang the S3 when trying to, and eventually ends with a "safe to unmount SD card" notification.
I bought a new 64GB card and it gives the IDENTICAL behavior.. so I don't think it's the card format..
This is on Cnexus Sprint stock rooted MK3 4.3 ROM...
I've always stayed stock, but rooted.
Both cards are exFat format.. I can't format the new card in the S3 because it can't be mounted. So did we lose exFat support in Cnexus stock MK3 ROM or ?? 'cus I definitely had it in the other releases..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2538543
I can't ask him directly.. not able to post in dev forums...
UPDATE: googling found this.. http://forums.androidcentral.com/sp...nt-now-after-installing-4-3-mk3-wifi-fix.html
It appears to be related to the wifi fix, but I'm not sure I want to install a custom kernel.. thoughts?

sorry.. bit of a noob on the phone side, but WHICH dkp kernel http://d-h.st/users/decimalman/?fld_id=19563#files should I be loading up and does one do that in the same manner as a normal flash (install on S3, boot to recovery, apply, etc) or is it Odin or ADB ?
I'm on cnexus stock MK3 ROM, so I assume that is touchwiz based?

Yes, you want to flash the TW 4.3 kernel. You flash in recovery. After rebooting your phone will see your extSD again.

The one you want is in the link below. You can place the zip file on the root of your SD Card. Boot into Recovery, wipe caches, and flash.
EDIT :
Edited to avoid issues in the future for members. Instead go directly to decimalman's Kernel Thread. That way you will be assured to have the latest version .

Will give it a try.. thanks for the help guys (very much appreciated).

if you read any of cnexus thread on that rom. you would have seem it was a issue with that stock kernel. flash the one above that will fix it. as for cwm recovery issues. check this out.

Thanks... With all due respect.. I did read that thread (it's 95 pages long in Chrome) tho' not every last word of it as it went all over the place..and I did do searches within the thread.. I also googled VERY MUCH, but having the issue and knowing what to do to fix it are different (the info indicated a problem with exFat, but no fix in that thread with stock kernel, and I'm reluctant to install custom kernels due to my lack of knowledge in the xda arena), however, the suggested fix to install the new kernel DID work (Thanks decimalman)..
While I root, I don't mess with custom rom's much and stay as stock as possible.
I need a working phone, and can't afford to brick it.
UPDATE: For those relative noobs (like me) one needs to do the following to get your 64GB exFat SD card working....
Follow the steps in this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2541900&highlight=mount+sd+card
Then install this version of Decimlman's kernel - http://d-h.st/Dqe

[Q] FrostyJB ROM V11.2.2, cannot access 64GB SD

Hi, I just flashed my Galaxy S3 with FrostyJB ROM v11.2.2. After the flash, SD card cannot be mounted anymore. I have a 64GB SD card in there. I then flash the kernel with stock kernel, and SD card can be mounted again.
Since this ROM is built using a custom kernel, I'm assuming the optimization is build around that kernel. So is it better to revert back to a previous version of the ROM altogether, or format the SD card with FAT32 and see if it works with the custom kernel, or it doesn't really matter having the stock kernel with this particular ROM?
Thank you for your help.

Mine is working... I suggest re-formatting your SD card from within Frosty.

Thanks tvinhas, but that's not the issue.
I played around more on it yesterday, and here's what I have:
FrostyJB v11.2.2 uses ktoonsez kernel, which seemed to incompatible with exFAT greater than 32GB (or perhaps just incompatible with exFAT altogether, not sure). I tried different combination and this works:
* FrostyJB ROM V11.2.2, with stock kernel
* FrostyJB ROM V11.2.2 with ktoonsez kernel, but must format SD card with FAT32
But regardless, I found another issue with this ROM version, so I decided to revert back to V11.2.1. I found that this ROM for some reason broke my USB connection. ADB and KIES won't work anymore, though windows recognizes the phone when I plugged it in and was able to read the storage. I uses KIES to sync my calendar with outlook, and I disable my KIES air. Rather than mocking around with it more, I decided to restore my nandroid.
Thanks for the help
Frosty V11.2.1 is my favorite and most stable ROM to date. I had issues with my 8gb FAT32 SD card on V11.2.2 so I went back. I was having some other issues as well but they might not have been due to the new version. I can't express enough how much I appreciate you developers taking the time to do this for the community.

[Q] My GS3 i747 ATT no longer reads my 64gb sd card. help please.

Ive been using my gs3 for some time now, rooted and working great. i updated my clockwork and flashed a few new roms along with new kernels. My problem is now i can not get my phone to mount my 64 Lexmark micro sd. it was fatx then moved it to fat32 but when its fat32 my phone says its damaged and ask to format, so i format then after that it can not mount it. it works fine on my older android phones but they are not rooted. so i suspect Clockwork recovery. im at 6.0.2.3 tried both touch and non touch. no luck. tried many different roms along with stock and stock kernel. no luck. any help? or link to older clockwork recovery that work?
thank you also running 4.1.1 jedi outcast rom right now
Did you try formatting it back to exFAT? Mine is formatted FAT32 and reads fine. Does the card read when you put it in a computer?
Yes I tried to format it in my pc to both fat32 and fatx. Also reads fine on my pc.

Flashing Roms

I've flashed roms before on my phone and it was all fine and dandy. I recently though went back to stock, removed root. Then I downloaded Chainfire SU today out of boredom, rooted, installed TWRP and tried installing GE roms on my M919V. No matter which one I flash, I'm stuck on the Galaxy S4 screen which is annoying. Is there anyway to fix this?
Make sure you are flashing YOUR kernel made for your device.

What version of TWRP are you using? I have heard of TWRP causing problems with v2.6. Try TWRP 2.5.0.2
Another thing could be a 64GB msdc. If you have one in that's format to exFat, a kernel that does not support exFat will cause you to bootloop or freeze on start screen. If that's the case flash a compatible kernel as suggested by TheAxMan or reformat to FAT32

TWRP 2.5.0.2 isn't without it's problems either. It worked alright for about 6 weeks and then it caused my phone to be unable to mount /data. I didn't have my phone useable for a whole day, and i finally found out how to fix it and now i stick with CWM which has never given me a scare like that.
Also, i used to have my 64GB SD card and it was exFat with a custom kernel that didn't support it, and my ROMS would still boot up, just my external SD would not be recognized until i reformatted to FAT32.
Those are by no means the one and only solutions. They're only a few things to look at as reported by others with similar problems.

MicroSD Not Mounting

Hello all,
I've searched d2tmo forums and couldn't find an answer for this so decided to start this thread. Ever since updating to Kitkat my d2tmo no longer recognizes my 32gb sd card. It reads fine on the latest 4.3 OTA firmware and my computer can also read it. I'm currently running CM11 nightlies. I have a smaller 8gb card in FAT32 that CM11 is able to read though, but somehow it doesn't recognize the 32gb card. Here's what I've tried so far,
- Formated to FAT32, to ext4 and ext2
- Tried to mount from CWR and TWR
- Used Remo recover and other file recovery software to format my 32gb card.
Please let me know if you have any fixes for this issues.
Thanks,
First format it back to FAT32 on PC. Then please flash another kernel and then try to format the card inside the phone.
Thanks Perseus
MicroSD is already in FAT32. Interesting that this could be a kernel issue. I'm currently running CM11's latest 3.4.74.
Will look for CM11 compatible kernels and let you know how it goes.
Thanks again

Hi Perseus,
I've flashed KToosez's AOSP 4.4.x kernel found here and CM11 is still not recognizing my 32gb SD card. SD card is FAT32. I have also tried to mount it from recovery.
Any other insights?
Thanks,
André
This may seem strange. But try to flash a 4.3 AOSP Rom or better yet 4.2 AOSP Rom with built in Kernel. See what happens in that case ?
NOTE - Since you have got the latest Samsung's 4.3 OTA Bootloader, be careful and Weary when flashing Roms. You don't want to accidentally try to flash an older bootloader.

Thanks Perseus,
I'm going to try formatting it to extFAT and use dkp's kernel to see if it will recognize the card. I see dkp can recognize 64gb sd cards. Let's see how it goes. I just came from 4.3 AOSP and TW and want to enjoy using Kitkat for a bit longer.
Appreciate the insights.
I had remembered seeing somebody having the same problem in the aospa thread. Apparently they erased the card and remounted. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48901946. You could try messaging the post author for details

Soft bricked my device, Odin failure everytime

I tried installing xposed framework via TWRP and ended up with a bootloop. I attempted to fix this by using Odin, however I keep getting a failure. I also tried to use MTP via TWRP and I keep getting a failure when copying over a file. I am in desperate need of help!

Well if you are updated to current tou would be oe1 no longer bob7 and oe1 cant be rolled back to bob7. Best thing there is one rom that works that is bob7 and that is noterized rom. This is a great rom as well to be stuck on till the oe1 tar is released or rumored oe3 being tested. Just download and follow SaintZ93 installation instructions. Hopw this helps.
Thanks man, I really appreciate it. Can you throw some ideas at me on how I can transfer files to my phone? MTP doesn't work

If you have twrp you can mount it to computer and do a slow transfer but works, or pull sd card and transfer straight to card. Then place back in phone and do wipe x3 not sd card, restart recovery and then install rom from sd card. and then follow instruction for Rom installation.

Do you have another sd card you can use or another phone to reformate the sd card. then follow needed steps to have twrp install rom. as well you should be able to move to phone storage to flash this rom just do your wipes first then twrp to comp and move to internal memory (phone). Make sure you have a good brand sd card as well the cheap 12 dollar ones just dont cut it most of the time. I try them and most of the time i get burned.

Like he said...if you took OE1 update, Notorized rom is the only one out there right now that will work with the OE1 kernel. All the other roms out there are written and work with previous firmware kernel BO7.
That is correct this rom is the only one i have gotten to work, we are waiting on the OE1 Tar to drop so Dev can start to switch over but I have a feeling we wont see a TAR till oe3 comes out. Which in that case you can not go to oe3 till the TAR drops and flash through Odin. Sorryman but you are stuck, the best part at least it is a great rom to use and stable.

how do i install twrp on oe1 update
Even on OE1, I believe it's still the same as normal:
-download odin to your pc, download twrp to your pc
-power off Note 4 first, then turn on by pressing: power + home + volume down (then hit volume up to continue when prompted on screen)
-connect phone to pc (download/install samsung drivers if you haven't already), now load up odin & make sure you're connected to phone & now you can install TWRP
