I have an annoyance with my Qi wireless charger. I put the tablet on the charger at night when I'm half asleep and in the morning I find it hasn't charged. Sometimes the screen will light up when it's placed on the charger properly, but not always.
What I'm looking for is an app or a setting where I KNOW for sure that the Nexus is charging - preferably without lighting up the whole screen and keeping me awake. Anyone know of one?

cant you just see if its charging from the battery icon in the notification bar? doesnt it also say when the device is chargin on the lockscreen? i use both of these methods to check for this when i use my wireless charger. not sure if a custom rom is needed for this, as i havent run anything on stock android since its debut
In order to see the notification bar or the lockscreen, I would have to be awake enough to push the power button and light up the entire screen.
As I said, what I want is a way to know that the tablet is charging without having to light up the screen.

The nexus 7 has a notification led. You can use an app like Light Flow to set pulsing pattern when it's charging.
I have mine to turn off the led when fully charged.

My G2 has Qi and the Notification LED pulses when charging. Its red for battery.
On my Nexus 7, I just position the tab until the screen turns on (when Qi pairs) and says charging on the lockscreen. Then I just close my hardbook case and its done.
Or get a better Qi pad that has multiple transmitters so it isn't as particular on placement.

My Qi charger is making sound when paired as the nexus 7 does also. In addition the green light indicator change to blue.
So no doubt any more

Yeah I'd get a better charger for it or drink loads of water before you go to bed so that when you get up to go to the toilet you can then check it the normal way.
i have a cheap wireless charger and it wont charge my SGS4 & Nexus 4 (previously own) and now Nexus 5.. but amazingly it working perfectly without any problem with my Nexus 7 Deb... - Slimkat + Elementalx
And I also have official Nexus 4 orb and I do have problem to use it with Nexus 5.. sometimes It'll make my phone overheated..but i experience the problem only on few custom roms/kernels..
now its good on unofficial Liquid + Chaos v6
:fingers-crossed:
There's an xposed module that will do this. It's in the xposed installer downloads section.

I just got my Nexus, and have plugged it in for the initial charge.
A graphic flashed on screen showing a battery being topped up, then went blank. As far as I know it's charging, but there isn't an LED showing me the charge status - is this right?
My desire LED is orange while it's charging, then turns green once it's fully charged. There doesn't seem to be anything like this on the Nexus, or am I missing something
Cheers.
EDIT:
Yeah it's definitely charging - if you tap the power button the graphic comes back. Just seems odd that the LED doesn't relay the battery state, so you can glance to see if it's charged yet or not.
Oh well.
Maybe you can enable this function if you modify the LED notifications.
The idea behind this is likely so that you can see if you have notifications while it's charging. It's a trade-off between two useful things that both use LED.
Try this "market.android.com/details?id=com.rageconsulting.android.lightflowlite" but you will need root

Well the Nexus can display pretty much any colours with its LED so they could use different colour flashes to display different information. Another design oversight.

Is it on when you plug it in?
Yes - Plug it in. Look at the screen and see the icon change to the battery w/ lightening bolt. Set down the phone. Wait
No - Plug it in. Wait for the battery charging icon BIG WHITE BATTERY on the screen. Set down the phone. Wait.
Once you know its charging, what is the worry? Do you really look at your phone from across the room to see if it's done with phones that do have an LED?

You don't even have to look at the top right. On your lock screen, it says:
Charging ( XX % ); XX being numbers. That's how simple it is, definitely making a big deal out of nothing.
The charging led was one of the things on the nexus one that I found quite handy. Well, once it was remapped to a more useful purpose anyway.
I had mine setup to indicate the cpu load (yes, even when the screen was "off"). Since it was a separate led from the notification (trackball) led, there was never any interference or confusion with "regular" notifications. Yes, I'll miss that extra re-mappable rgb led, whatever it's original purpose was supposed to have been...
By the way, Light Flow (free in market) will let you customize the led for this and other events.

Do I have to have a rooted galaxy nexus to use this app?
I second the LightFlow suggestion. I set mine up to show a flashing white LED while charging and a solid white LED when charging is done. Went through a few other options, too - orange for charging green for done, etc.
Lightflow has options to either prioritize or cycle notifications, so a charging indication won't override an email or something.
I know LightFlow uses root, but I just tested it out by denying it root access. The LED for charging still functions. even without root.
As a side note: "Done Charging" is indicated at around 90-something percent. So if you are somewhere between 90 and 100, you might see the LED acting like it's done even though the lockscreen still says charging. Not sure why that is, but I think it's probably so that the typical charge/discharge when the phone battery is full doesn't cause it to keep triggerring notifications over and over. Historesis would be a better option in my opinion. Wait for it to hit 100% to call it charged, but then wait for it to get below 90% before allowing another "charged" event to be activated. But again, that's just on the speculation about the reasoning.
Look for "Galaxy Nexus LED" in the market. It does exactly what you need, I believe (just charging led and low battery notifications). If you need more features Light Flow is the one to install (as people already mentioned).

Have just received new Galaxy Nexus and plugged it into the charger. The screen showed a battery icon with a lightning bolt for a few seconds, then it changed to a battery icon filling up for 5 seconds, then it disappeared. If I unplug and plug it back in the same thing happens. I've left it for over 2 hours now and there's nothing on the screen still, and no LED's lit up anywhere. Is it charging?
I don't want to turn it on in case this will affect the first charge. Can anyone tell me if it is actually charging?
(Yes this is a question, but where is the Q&A forum for Galaxy Nexus?)
Update: Now if I unplug and plug back in I see what looks like a full battery icon, but it disappears after a few seconds...

Yeah it's charging. If you tap the power button briefly, an animated battery icon will show it charging on the screen.
I too find it very odd that the notification LED doesn't give any visual feedback of whether it's charging or not. In fact, I noticed this morning that the LED doesn't seem to work at all when it's on charge - you have to turn on the screen to see if you have any messages.
Phew! Thanks for that, I pressed the power button and yes the icon is displayed, looking full. But I think I will leave it for a while longer until I turn it on for the first time...
The LED at the bottom is only for notifications, not for battery status. The Nexus One had 2 LEDs, one in the screen and one in the trackball. Only the small screen one lit up for batter charging/charged/low. This is because that small LED was hard wired to the motherboard, so it displayed even when the device was off and charging.

Got mine delivered today.
It's not charging at all.
Battery icon changes to show it's charging, but clicking on the battery settings says it's discharging, in fact in ran out of juice while i had it plugged in !!!
I know it's not the charger or the battery as these have been tested on another galaxy nexus without issue.
Anyone any thoughts, I'm assuming it's a phone hardware problem, not a software problem.
Thanks.

The same with my device .
Now battery is fully discharged and turns only for 2 sec with connected charger.
Charger itself is ok (charges another i9000).
Tried to connect PC USB - was synchronized perfectly while battery was ok but not charged.
How did you solve a problem??
I too seemingly have got this problem on the phone I got today...
EDIT
contacted Amazon, claimed they had heard of the problem and replaced it same day, it's gone back for inspection.
I exchanged my phone due to screen issues. Now i have my new phone, screen is good but it wont charge. I used both Verizon's car charger and home charger provided by Samsung (original that came with the box). When i plug in it will say "not charging" and when unplugged it says "discharging". When plugged it i do have the battery with thunderbolt symbol. I tried turning off the phone and removing battery and re-inserting it and plugged in again, same issue.
My LED notification light is dim when I'm charging my device, it's nice and bright blue when notifying of a message, booting up or email. Occasionally it's bright red when I first plug it into the charger or computer but then dims within a minute or so.
Anyone else come across this or know if this is related to a faulty usb port? Have titanium version running stock at the moment.

I noticed mine is dim when I plug it into my car charger that only supplied 1A to it. My guess is that its because not enough juice going through it. Oem wall Samsung charger never produces any sort of dim light.

The light sensor seems to work, even when the screen is off. Notice the charge light is brighter in higher ambient light, and dims if you cover the sensor.
Edit: I just plugged in, in a dark room. Charge light was dim. If I shine light on screen, the charge light brightens.

I have noticed when light is dim charge seems to be slower though.
I've always wondered about this myself and did notice it behaved differently under different light conditions so I just ignored it and assumed it's normal behavior. It's bright all the time if you charge the phone powered off

I have the Chinese qi receiver and energizer dual qi pad. I got the energizer from amazon new but it looked used since it has marks on the pad from usage but package was new. I have a problem when it gets to 100% it drop and reconnect the wireless charging so it keeps beeping every few min and keeps my screen alive and will stay on unless I hit power button. I've tried it with case on and off with no luck. Wanted to know if its a known problem with my combo. Thanks.

I also have an Energizer pad (single), and it does not beep for me. After it reaches the full charge, it just sits there with the screen off.
I have never seen it as it reaches the full charge, so I can't be 100% sure that it doesn't come on once, but I leave it on the pad and the screen is always off.

Hi, the same thing keeps happening to my g3 whenever I try and charge it wirelessly.
Just to ask did you buy one of the budget qi chargers?
I bought one for £7 on ebay, thing is it charges my Nexus 4 perfectly fine, just can't seem to get a good angle with my G3.
The price was the same as the link I posted. Around 30-40usd each. The charger is fine with my nexus as well just not g3.
Seem to me as though the charger coil on the g3 back cover is very small that is causing the issue.
Sent from my LG-F400S using XDA Free mobile app
Yeah I took the cover off my G3 to see if I could see any hint as to how big the coils were or where they were placed but couldn't really see anything.
Did you actually buy your chargers on taobao? I wouldn't trust anything on there to be of good quality.
Maybe the G3 has trouble working with cheap chargers, the proper LG one's i've heard work really well.
I was thinking of getting a better charger, perhaps one with 3 coils see if that makes a difference..
Yeah I got it directly off taobao, there wasn't a good selection of charger when I got the nexus. And especially it was so hard to find a good car charger.
Guess I have no choice but to get the official lg one now.

I have the same problem with a generic circular one. If the screen is on, the message about the hot zone pops up. If the screen is off however, the charging message pops up. But it does this every few seconds, every time the screen goes off.
If I look at the inside of the cover on mine, I can clearly see the coil layout (you have to look at an angle, under a light) The coil I see looks about the same as a standard one.
The issue, I think, may be down to the NFC coil being in the same location. Qi is supposed to detect foreign metal objects such as keys & coins, and will turn off if they are detected. Maybe the NFC coil is interfering with Qi and the official LG charger has been designed to overcome this issue.
I haven't been able to find the official charger at retail.
Here I have found it on Taobao, the price is pretty steep though about 50USD.

I got the official charger but same problem for me. Says its loading but when the screen goes of it pops back up. The charger is working fine with my Nexus 7. Anyone who solved this problem yet?
I also have this problem with a premium charger I bought for my note 3. Keeps on telling me to put it in the hot spot and then won't charge. Looks like another problem for the g3 and I'm beginning to wish that I'd kept my note 3
Please help
This is my second try to get an answer to this question. Does anyone here have a us LG G3? The reason I'm asking is I have seen two different charging pin locations one is the international one which has a space between pins 2 and 3and the Korean version which has no spaces between the pins. I want to buy a charging cover and don't know which one to get so hopefully someone here can let me know. Thanks in advance.
i thought only me have this problem.
im using official LG G3 charger WCD-100, while charging the G3, sometimes charging stop for a second and continue. happen so often. the wireless charging notification annoy me, not sure if charging with random disconnect will make the battery life cycle worse
when charging my nexus 5 with the same wireless chager, the charging went smooth, no disconnect happen
i check the back cover and clean the pin, nothing changes, still got random disconnect

Hi to all!
I just got my new LG G3 phone and starting to familiarize its usage. Though one thing I can't figure out is the wireless charging indicator pops up every after 30 seconds or so. Is there any configuration I can set to disable this?
Thanks!

I'm using a generic charger from dx (the round black one) and positioning is sensitive, but it does work and doesn't keep popping up asking me to reposition it.
I also have a round puck charger and and also one of those Lugalake qi chargers with integrated battery. UK phone.
In both cases the G3 just sits and whines about positioning. The puck thinks it's charging and the battery level increases but the back of the phone gets very hot so I don't think it's 100% right. A hot zone, for sure.

Exact same problem. I am currently using G3 Tweaks Box to remove the annoying notifications that pops up every now and then, but no solution to the actual issue of the phone not charging consistently. Not sure if its the phone or the charger, but am currently thinking of swapping to a better charging stand (the WCD-100 looks pretty inconsistent with the premium look of the phone, plus I'm using a black G3) and hoping that the charging issue would be resolved.
I have the LG WCP-300 and I get the placing message as well, but it charges the phone without any issues. .
