I'm new to this forum as I recently purchased a T-Mobile S4.I have Googled and searched like crazy and I can't find an answer to this problem.
When I encounter a link, or anything else that brings up the Application Selection dialog, I pick out the application that I would like to use as the default, and then select "always". Android responds with a message about how to clear my selection later on... But it doesn't remember the selection. If I pick another link, I have to go through it all again.
I've cleared all defaults, checked the one I'm trying, used the default app picker, tried the Xposed Xposed framework... I'm out of ideas. I really want to set up my apps and move on.
I'm not a noob to Android. The phone is rooted, but on a stock room. TWRP is installed.
Any ideas?

It's Samsung, not Android. THis has been an issue for me with the S4, S5, Note 3 and Note Pro 12. Might have been with the S3 but I don't remember. They're screwing up the expected Android behavior, likely to annoy people into using the apps they want us to use.

I can't say I've ever experienced problems with my preferences sticking; Samsung apps or not...
I have this exact problem on my rooted, unlocked S4, running the latest KitKat update (4.4.2). It only seems to be happening with the phone diling action, though. For all other actions, once I pick the default app, it sticks, but clicking on a phone number link always brings up the default selection prompt, even though I've already selected the stock Phone app a zillion times already. The stock Phone app comes pre-selected in the window, which means that it does recognize the previous selections somehow (and also, in Application Manager, I can see that it is selected as the default "for some actions"), and yet, I still get prompted EVERY TIME. The only way to get rid of the prompt is to uninstall every single app that is capable of handling the dialing action (Skype, Zoiper, Avast, Lookout, etc.), and ONLY then does the Phone app get launched by default.
This is beyond annoying, considering that dialing from phone number links in various apps is just about the most frequent action I use.
If anyone has any idea how to fix this problem, I'd be very grateful.

Hello Everyone,
As you know, when you have multiple apps that can fulfill the same function Android asks you to choose one as the default. My problem is, if I choose one other than the built in Android app (like "Browser") it will lose it's setting after reboot. I've tried searching the forums for a solution but most of the threads deal with how to clear the default app setting and don't deal with how to make the default app settings permanently stick. I've tried apps like "Default App Manager" but after reboot it still resets. Can anyone suggest a solution to this issue? Thanks.
are you checking the checkbox on the bottom that says "Remember my Decision" (well something like that) when asked which action to do? you gotta check that dude..
Yes, I have been doing that! That of course was the first thing that I did: Check the box to remember and than click on the app. That's why I find this behavior so strange. I notice this was happening on both the R800a build that came with the phone, and the new .368 rom that I just loaded. Note that I also made it a point to keep these programs on the phone memory rather than the SD card, but it still makes no difference.
Same problem here...
at least don't nag.. was just trying to help
Sorry, to sound like I was nagging on you. I just assumed the obvious but I should have clarified that in my original post.
Try using different alternative apps. Like opera or dolphin for browser

Hi Cat,
That's what I'm doing, but the problem is when an app requires the browser to be opened it will ask for me to choose an app. I check the box at the bottom and then click on Opera. This will be remembered by android as long as I don't reboot the phone. The minute I reboot the phone it will forget what I set and ask me to choose a default app again. This is quite annoying.
Did you edit your build. Prop?
Deleted any system apps?

I only froze things like facebook etc. and have the problem of reconfirming default actions again and again. Someone suggested to make Sure replacement microsd should have same volume name like PHONE CARD or whatever original was. I,m not at my pc so cannot check if that fixes it. Hope it helps

Sometimes if you are getting Force-Closes, the system will reset the "Default" action for that intent if the intent failed with a force close of an app. Are you getting many FCs?
*shrugs* Past that, not sure what would be causing it. Maybe another app?
I apologize if this is mentioned somewhere else, but I've been searching for this everywhere and can't find anything that discusses it.
With Jellytime, ever since I started using it back in the alphas, up to R26 (with some wipes in between, of course), I've never seen Google Now working. I'm not referring to cards as a response to voice searches that many people seem to think of as Google Now, but instead to Now cards that appear automatically in response to data. Furthermore, I've found numerous screenshots on other devices of preferences that actually include the words "Google Now," whereas everything for mine seems to be for voice search. This doesn't appear to simply be a matter of waiting a few days for cards to appear.
I've always installed per the Jellytime instructions, installing the zip, the most recent google apps zip, and the inspiremod zip. I've never seemed to get actual Google Now installed rather than just Voice Search. There are zips to install Now on ICS roms, but everything that I've searched for insists that Now is builtin to JB.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there some way to get Now cards working with Jellytime, or is this something particular to Jellytime? Do I need to install something else? Or am I completely confused in some way?
I have a bit of a silly question. Have you tried tapping Menu and making sure that your Google Now is set to "on" and not "off"? There might also be 3 dots in the lower right on some ROM settings, but it tends to get hidden under the keyboard. It should prompt you to decide whether you want to use Google Now the first time you use it, but I thought I should check.
That was what I seemed to read numerous places, but nothing about Google Now ever showed up anywhere (Menu, Settings, etc) for me. However, your asking made me think that it probably wasn't a problem with the ROM, so I went to what should have been immediately obvious to me: I have a Google Apps account.
Apparently there's an obscure setting in the domain management tools to turn Google Now on and off; this was apparently added some time ago, but after the last time I checked, and no notification was ever sent out. When off, any reference to Google Now on a phone synced to an Apps account simply disappears. Everything is now working perfectly, and I'm no longer mystified.
I suppose I should always check there first in the future, and always preface everything with a note that I'm using an Apps account... though I can't understand why Google's paying customers always seem to have the most annoying experiences with new features.
Unfortunately I have to retype this on my computer since midway through the keyboard stopped working.
I tried looking for any solutions online but got nothing.
Basically the keyboard functions, it registers what I press and gives predictions/corrections however the cursor stays in the same spot in the text box and none of the text can be entered. I don't get the "blah blah not working" window or any error window. I just can't enter text.
I tried going into app manager > All > samsung keyboard and clearning data but no use.
Oddly enough this rarely happens but when it does, it has happened on forums.
Second issue, this one is more concerning.
Today I noticed my samsung calender widget to be completed filled with reppetitive messages. It's the same message about a channel repeated for every single day, with one entry for all the years starting from the 15th for some reason.
It had a couple of entries filled within the task.
Again, I tried going into app man. > all > delete data
but got nothing
on Sam. Calender there is an option to delete repeitive entries that worked but now I'm concerned.
I know that it came from the only television app I had called TV Live (since the text was in russian and it's the only russian app I have) but I don't know how concerned I should be. I tried going through all the big antivirus apps like avast, kapersky, and 2 others but they came up empty.
Any percautions? Advice? Comments?
Anything will be helpful, and I appreciate any constructive comments.
notes: My N2 is the AT&T version, rooted, stock with Xposed framework on it but uninstalled temporarily even though Xprivacy is still working keeping track of all installed apps.
I got a fresh new Note 7 few days ago, and installed Google Now Launcher as always, but it works in wierd way.
After few hours, it doen't show some widgets in home screen, neither on edit page.
When I reboot the phone, most of widgets were back but some have been missing yet.
Furthermore, in appdrawer there's no app at all.
I can run app from Google Now searchbar and home screen shortcuts, but nothing is in appdrawer.
I uninstalled and re-installed the launcher but nothing solved.
I tried to clear cashes and so on but app manager says there's no such a thing...
I have to reset my phone I guess, but that would be such a huge pain in the ass.
Does anyone esle has same problem with me? Any suggestions?
I had the same problem. Reading from the S7 area, it seems like it's Knox that is causing the problem. I believe they mentioned that you need to uninstall it. I haven't tried it. Need to do more research first before I try it myself.

That makes sense, I recall the problem occured just after me setting "secure foler". I have to visit Samsung Service Center since I don't wanna uninstall knox. Thank you very much giving me information.
Just played with it a bit more. If you don't need Secure Folder, you can just install that. Google Now Launcher will work correctly after rebooting. If, later on, you decide you would prefer Secure Folder, you can just reactivate it. I just tried it. I disabled Secure folders for now, since I really don't need it and I prefer Google Now.
Question about websites asking for my location. We have two Note 10+ phones and anytime a website asks for the location the pop-up appears asking for the ok but the phone never allows either option to be picked. I always have to use the back button to clear the pop-up off the screen. We've had both Note 10+'s for months and it's never allowed us to select an option. How do I make the thing work? Using Chrome as the browser and everything is fully updated. I checked the feature in the default Samsung browser and it works fine, but I want to issue Chrome. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Open Chrome and go to settings and look for "site settings" . Once opened look for "location". Open "location" and change your settings accordingly.

Mine does same but I went to settings and tried to change the permissions but it only allows Ask every time, or deny. Only choices. Very odd

For me the issue was I needed to give permission for Chrome itself.
So I went to the phone's settings then apps then chrome then allowed location when in use

I've done that too and still doesn't allow me to pick either option in the pop-up.

I think thats Android not allowing you to select a choice because an 'overlay' is blocking your view.

Got it to work. Went into Settings and search for "on top" and open the Special Access menu and select Appear on top and turn off all the apps.
