Pretty sure you need to be rooted for a custom recovery, not sure about stock.

During my latest factory resort I did the whole pus volume up + home + power sequence. When I got to theme boot screen I had all the usual stuff but I noticed that at the bottom was the green android guy laying down with his chest open and a red exclamation mark coming out of it. Is this normal?

if you are planning to root your phone, i'd suggest get TWRP recovery instead of CWM, a lot more friendly to use.
Yeah. Soooo many things to choose from now lol

What about if I just want to take twarp off and leave IT rooted

You should have either TWRP or CWM added as a recovery. Try following this link then.

I know but it is not working right and I have been reading it will brick your phone on updates I just wanted to take it off till a stable one comes out
Sent from my LG-E980 using xda app-developers app
I went back to root package, then flashed the value package (which is the update) both with LGFlashTool and then rerooted and did TWRP. Phone works fine.

I have the update on my phone I just downloaded twrp last night it worked and I did a back up and it worked but when I went back and it frozen like the touch screen is not working
Sent from my LG-E980 using xda app-developers app
I had the same thing happen when I ran it from FreeGee but it corrected when I used the install in the link. re-install it and see what happens.

Will try

The screen freeze issue is annoying. I am actually running CWM from freegee because of TWRP freezing. You can flash HKfriends kernel and take care of that too, I would rather just run CWM, works the same and can keep my stock unmolested kernel.

Yes, it will install over TWRP.

I went and unlocked through freegee and then backed up in cwm and it took like 45min is that normal cause on my other phones it only took like 10 min and I still can't delete apps with titanium back up it says it deleted but win I restart my phone they come back

Yeah, the first time takes a while. If your having issues with the deleting of apps, just freeze them, they barely take up space and it does the same basic thing, I personally just freeze everything, I can then restore my phone back to stock without even hooking it up to my computer.

My vol down won't work anymore..? I'm on the carbon ROM.. Twrp .. And it doesn't work when I try download mode either
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
Does it work from the black screen and text menu. This is reached by turning off your phone then once your phone is off do this. hold vol up and the power button. The second you see the lg logo let go of both buttons. It should go into the menu i am talking of. If so press vol down two times then press the power button and wait 15 seconds. The phone should reboot let it do its thing. If you boot into twrp the button works and you have another problem. If the phone just turns off then its that button.

Its the other problem, it is the button, but ive never had water damage or drops

I recommend taking it back to complete stock condition. Using the kdz method. The one that sprint repair techs use? And return it for another. You'll still be in Warranty for hardware defects.

You could flash stock zvc, or zvb and let it update. Then in FreeGee restore to stock. Only option I can think of

Where can I get the zvb update? I'm on zvc now.

Update? Or bin? Links to both are in the root guide.
Edit. That would be for LGNPST which won't work for you. Oops
There is an odexed stock zvb rom in Devolopement. I think from TheShadow1.
Edit 2. Not a good night for me I guess. The zvb ROM is also linked in the root guide. Odex and deodex

I know it sounds stupid but I unrooted my nexus 7 flo about a month ago for kitkat but since today no kitkat was announced for the nexus 7 and some 4.4 build have started to show up I decided to root it back.
But I have a problem , holding power, volume up and volume down buttons doesn't make my device boot into recovery.
In the past I rooted and unrooted many times, I know how all that work but now I have a problem.
Any help? Thanks

It is power and volume up to get in to recovery.
Power and volume down will get you to the bootloader.
Okay so I was using my phone and it suddenly turned off and when I attempted to turn it back on it would show me the galaxy s4 screen and turn off right away. Does anyone know why this is happening? Every time I try turning it on it does that. I tried booting into recovery and no go idk what else to do. Any help is appreciated.
Have you tried a battery pull? Then some charging.

Thanks everyone for all your help @TheSickness was correct I'm debating if I should upgrade to an s5.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The S5 finger print is a major target for hackers to steal your identity. Just saying, if you upgrade, make sure you don't goof up. I'm almost afraid to upgrade to the S5, been thinking of getting a note again. But really IDK. Maybe I'll keep my S4 and get a tablet or a kindle. Something to do my desktop website development work on.
