Youtube alternatives
Here are a few YouTube alternatives which you can look for,
Vube, DailyMotion, Vimeo etc.
I. Use SuperTube Pro, No Adds and gives high def videos. Best one I've tried and I've tried them all.

I use adfree for Android and I don't get ads on the YouTube app. And there should be a setting inside the app to play only sd.

PV star is a great YouTube alt. You. Shut the screen off and just listen if you want.

Pvstar is nice. Just downloaded it. Works great!
I´m quite mad at Google because of still not having activated the option of using a 1080p resolution in Youtube. I mean, come on, I bought both recent flagship devices which can handle 1080p video playback without any problems ( Nexus 5 & Nexus 7 2013 ).
I wanted to buy the latest Viral Pro App but for whatever reasons, the developer also decided to stick to max. 720p. What is wrong with this world ? Is there a better app available in order to watch Full HD material on these devices ?

I could understand it not being there if your screen isn't 1920x1080. But if you have a FHD screen than it should show up. Assuming the video allows it.

I have a nexus 5, nexus 7(2013), and a kindle fire hdx 7.
It doesn't show up on all of them.
(And yes I have the latest version of YouTube.)

This will block youtube ads and other ads (app, website) but will not provide any additional youtube options.

You can get it in two ways:
1. The safe way:
Download Apk Extractor to your S3 and send the apk to N7 by bluetooth
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.sylark.apkextractor
2. Download it directly from another site which has is cached (be carefull, because some apks might be modified to include malware. so check its permissions before installing):

I recommend the app TV Portal. It has free TV shows and movies.

I use some special XBMC builds that add great HW acceleration support, and then I install the Navi-X plugin inside of it.
Thousands of 720p/1080p movies and TV shows along with Live TV streams on my Nexus 7? Priceless. I've streamed Silver Linings Playbook and Wreck-it-Ralph just fine.

can you be a bit more specific?

Came across this after trying out the app "Streamster" that app streams from Justin.TV and needs flash to work..no full screen ads showed..ugly interface ..but it worked.
Fast forward to this new app I found "MovieTube" it doesn't actually host any movies ..but it does link you to them to watch and stream from....YouTube works great and quality on most are good and you get full screen and no ads.
With the limited storage on the Nexus this is a nice option. Again the app is called "MovieTube" and its free and on the play store by the Dev name of "Screen&Shout"

The app doesn't actually host any movies it just redirects you to users on YouTube who uploaded it.

Awesome for multitasking, especially if your watching a tutorial or something. The last update added a lot of cool features, so I expect big things to come in future updates.

Very confusing coz I have it installed and works good. But for sure I have a little problems with permissions this app request. Why the video player application needs ability to "Redirect outgoing phone call"????
need it badly
Works fine on my N7 and N10...
Try redownloading newest version from the Store? Or clearing its cache/data?

Sorry to bother.. i am on a nexus 5 (i know, wrong thread) but i can't seem to make mx player my default player.. android 4.4 doesn't ask me which player should it use, for example when i open a youtube video from browser it starts with a default player (which i can't find in the apps). I tried everything, restore defaults, format data, flash another rom but nothing solved it.. help!
Works fine on my device
I do have the Pro version though

Did you try to open a video from mobile youtube (on dolphin or another browser)? Does it open mx player or stock video player? On mine it doesn't ask to choose..
Works fine.
On my Nexus 7 2012 it works fine. It is the free version.
Can't you see it in the play store? Or does the app crash when you open it? Tell me more about the problem please.

Works on my nexus 7 2012 as well. Try opening a video from a file explorer. I have 4 different movie players {don't ask why) when I open the folder containing movies and select one of the files I'm promoted to pick which player to use.

I think what you're suggesting is piracy. If you really don't want ads but don't want to support dev, just use adaway.

You'll need to use FDroid (look it up on Google etc.) to get AdAway - it's alternative store for open source apps
I'd buy the Pro version though, even if it's to just support the developers.
Nah, not compatible with the androidversion... KitKat 4.4.2 on Nexus 5...
Hello, I have a note 2 n7100. I used to have 4.1.2. Flashed 4.3. Everything went well. One thing that's bothering me is the youtube app video quality is low even when I choose HQ. It gets better but it's pixilated. On 4.1.2 it was basically hd. Has anyone else experience the same problem? I can't figure out what it is. The rom?. Or a setting somewhere? Could a custom kernel effect it somehow? Any tips or advice appreciated.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Are you on 3G? Because usually the app switches to HQ rather than HD only on 3G.
Also there is an app called Viral .. It let's you choose whatever quality you want, its kinda good, you may want to try it
Thanks, i guess i had a modded youtube app before where it would automatically play hd in 3g. Noe it only has hd option on wifi only. The only solution i foind is the OG youtube downloader. Where you can choose what quality you want when on 3g. But it doesnt have an auto option to go to highest quality when on 3g. Ill check out that viral app. Thanks.

Actually most of the roms have youtube apk as system app and those apks are a little modified for better performance!
If u have system youtube apk then you can remove it by using root uninstaller from play store(needs root).
And reinstall youtube from play store!
