Poetic Slimline Case and the Nexus Wireless Charger - Nexus 7 (2013) Accessories

PSA: For some reason the Nexus Wireless charger and the Poetic Slimline Case don't play well together. I have another wireless charger, the Oregon Scientific QI charger, and the Nexus 7 charges without problem with the Slimline case on, but it will not charge on the Nexus Wireless Charger with the case on. The case seems pretty decent, particularly for the price, except for this minor issue. The Nexus Wireless Charger works when I remove the case and it works with my Nexus 5 as well.
These are the links for the specific models I am referring to:

Oregon Scientifc Wireless Charging Station

Hmm... I guess I should have done the research before ordering the Nexus wireless charger (which is already here). I have the Poetic Slimline on the way right now.

Are you absolutely certain it doesn't work? With the official Asus case fitted the Nexus charger works but it is a little fiddly to get it into the right position as the magnets are too weak to help locate the sweet spot.

I am fairly certain that at least with my charger it does not work. I played around with it for a while. When I took the case off I was able to charge the tablet every time with little trouble with placement. I bought the charger just after release. Maybe they will fix the problem with a revision or something. I have to imagine that if the Poetic Slimline has a problem other cases will as well. Or maybe it was just my charger having an issue.
As I mentioned before, the tablet charges with the case on when I use my Oregon Scientific QI charger.

Surpisingly, the Moko Ultra Slim (pretty much the same) case works just fine with my Nexus Orb charger. I've seen a few videos of the new Nexus charger and it almost seems like its range is a bit worse than the Orb from last year.

130 bucks? thats how much i paid for my nexus fhd lol

External batteries/Portable chargers

I'm looking to buy one for when i'm traveling to charge my phone/tablet and looking for suggestions on brands/models/etc. Probably don't really want to spend much more than ~$50 on one. Only requirements are that it isn't too big and bulky to not fit well in a laptop travel case. And the more mAh the better obviously. Thanks.

There are a lot of brands out there. Morphie seems to be one of people's top picks - probably because it looks super nice and marketed well. I personally have never own one and think it's a bit on the pricey side. I have a Ravpower one with 10,400 mah which was mentioned in this thread if you wanna take a look. Works great. Not heavy at all which was surprising. And can charge my nexus 7 about 2 times before i need to charge again. Think Ravpower have smaller ones too, but 10,400 might be their largest capacity charger.
These portable power chargers seems to be everywhere now. You can probably find some in stores too. Think I saw a low mAh one at Lowes the other day by either Duracell or Energizer, but these might not be best for heavy charging.
I just ordered 2 antec powerup 3000's apparently they have Panasonic batteries. I will report back!

9000mAh Portable Charger - charge 2 devices at once
There is a portable charger from Trident Case that allows you to charge 2 devices at once...one port is for small devices like a phone (1.0A) and the other is for larger devices like tablets (2.0A)...all you need is a USB plug to charge...it comes with a micro USB cable. It's originally $99 but they are having a sale through Feb. 18th

"Engineered form fitting edge to edge". In other words, you really have to take it out of the case to use it. I'm pretty sure I like the hole I drilled in the back of my Moko case better .
I wish the tray was a little bigger to accommodate cases. But I might just buy it lol.

Those with cases might not buy.

Common cases where the bottom part snaps off worked with the dock for the 2012 model, with the rest of the case dangling behind the dock. A dock could in principle work that way, although a quick look at the photos makes me suspect the back is too high for that to be an option here.
There appears to be no functionality other than charging? Audio output, anything at all? Without that I'm not sure I'd call this a "dock" rather than a "stand."

Yeah it is more of a stand but you dont really need a dock anymore. I have a pair of Jaybird Bluebuds X Bluetooth headphones so no need for audio on the dock and i have a Seagate Wireless Plus 1tb wireless hard drive so when i get this dock / stand ill be able to use my nexus 7 to listen to music that is stored on the 1tb drive through headphones while the nexus charges without having a single cable connected to my nexus 7. Going to be awesome.
Nice. $50 bucks is a bit heavy for a dock. I know those Qi Chargers are expensive but I can't figure out why. I already bought the Samsung Qi when it was $25 and I don't even use it.
I can't think the innards of these Qi devices are all that complicated. I wonder if I could dismantle my Samsung and create my own dock. The Dock is the easy part. I actually really like my makeshift DVD case/tablet stand I made for the OG N7.
Stand looks nice and professional. Most Qi chargers are $50+. If I hadn't already bought one, I would be all over this. Might not fit with cases though because of the way it is designed. Not sure if the stand allows additional clearance to allow a case.

if yes, how is it, thanks
I have one for 25 off an amazon seller. Works great. The keyboard is magnetic so you can remove it and use it detached which is cool.
Three negative that are not bad. First it does make it thick. about like a day planner, not bad. Two the keyboard is small as you would expect but it has nice travel and is quite usable. The third thing is that in landscape the edge of the screen can slip below the leather lip. If you use a hidden pie menu you might need to increase its target size to handle that.
But those are all minor. I like it. A HDMI adapter and this works well in a hotel for working.

Offbrand Wireless Charging Orb

I found a nice wireless charger online, but due to the fact that I haven't bought a wireless charger before, I have no idea if the specifications it has are any good. Here's a link : http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F9SKJN6/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1E57UY6AMKO25

What do you guys think?
I bought the same one. Had it for about a week now, and with no problems charging the phone.
My only issue is trying to find a case for the phone that doesn't slide off the charger. Both spigen cases I have bought, the phone slides off after a few minutes. Without a case, the phone stays on beautifully. However, I like to keep my phone in a case all the time. Any suggestions?

Try attaching some thin magnets on the surface of the charger. You could alternatively buy some magnet tape and apply that.
I also found this one that looks fine but there are no reviews so I'm a little bit hesitant. http://www.amazon.com/PThink-Qi-Ena...e=UTF8&qid=1390259691&sr=8-6&keywords=qi+coil

That really depends on where the coils are located on that device. It looks like it should work, if you are going by the qi mark in the center, because the coil on the N5 is close to the center of the phone.
EDIT: I see they say it has three coils. If that is the case, then it's like the Tylt VU where it has three or so coils.

Those specs are good. It's the same 1000mA output as most Qi chargers. If the output is rated below 1000mA then don't buy it.
That's odd. I have the same off-brand (bought mine on NewEgg, but it looks to be the same one) Qi charger and I've not had any kind of slippage issues with mine.
Took it on a trip recently, and it held up just fine without slipping when I was using my Ringke Slim case. And-- needless to say-- I have no slipping problems when I'm not traveling, and go caseless on my N5.
I always did prefer the Nexus Orb charger look!

I use it on my S3. The charging speed is not that fast compared to USB, which I think is well-known. The back cover gets a bit warm also, and I have an Otterbox Commuter case as well, which gets a little bit warm also. It charges just fine through the case.
This is the one that I ordered, as it came with the charging pad and receiver for the phone.
http://www.fasttech.com/product/1146700-qi-inductive-wireless-charging-upgrade-kit-for-sam
Hope this helps!
I have one of the first gen receiver pads and it charges faster than USB but slower than AC.
check ebay. use search terms like "i9300 qi reciever"
just get the reciever pad.
the best charger pad imo is the nokia ones. they're regularly on sale from 20 -25 bucks for the most part. just do some searching online.

Any Wireless charging system or standard that has the two contacts to fit the contacts that are in the Battery compartment and fits will work....A wireless Standard isn't built into the phones, just the Transmitter and Receiver Coils....
QI wireless charging is nice... However I notice the connector from the QI receiver will interfere with the smart cover slot anyone?
look what i found^^

You can find a quality charger kit on ebay... just to be safe... look for "Top Rated Seller" and someone with high feedback score to be safe..
oh, and because i'm such a sweetheart:

18 bucks for a really decent charging pad. I have 2. one for my bed side and one on my desk.
This one works great with mine and I have the lifeproof case on it.

Of course you can not break yusb port, only one drawback - the phone longer charged
