There is an updated way to perform the function in a thread on our devices. So far there is no SDXC memory card faster than internal ram.
If anything, 16gb is enough for android apps unless you have a huge library. But then again, my 200+ apps are hitting around 900mb of my 2gb of system ram and fill 1/2 of my internal storage. If I could fill up my internal storage with apps, then I would have about 300mb of system memory available from apps being in hibernation or running in background. To me making an external memory card be your primary storage, would be more of a hindrance than the eye candy of having big numbers show in your device.
The only reason for such large storage in other devices is that there is no external SD card options, so there must be extra internal storage for the device to be marketable for peeps who want to store media and data.

[Q] A question about program storage

I have just recently gotten a new HTC EVO from Sprint and even though it came with an 8GB micro SD card, I was dismayed to learn that it comes with very little internal storage (~277 MB with default apps installed). Android 2.2 is installed on the device, which does allow some of the newer apps to be installed on the SD card, but there are a lot of older apps that can't be moved to the SD card due to Android's original security.
It got me to think about a similar situation I used to have with my Palm Treo. We had an external SD card, but no real way of using it. Then came PowerRun, a utility that allowed us to offload apps to the SD card while not in use, and reload them to system memory and executed upon relaunch automatically.
My question is, could it be possible for the wizards here at xda to come up with a similar utility for Android systems? I know there would be limitations, such as running processes and other system programs that need to remain in internal memory, but it seems to me that other non-essential games and apps could be offloaded to the SD card and deleted from system memory and only leave behind a launcher icon that would call the launcher app that would reload the app on the SD card back into internal memory, then launched. This would free up the internal memory for max efficiency. Could this be possible?

Interesting idea indeed. There is already a great deal of effort in this area of freeing up internal phone memory. A2SD, Dalvik2Cache, and firerat's partition resizing are some great ways to increase internal phone memory by moving things around and optimizing the usage of what we have.

APPS2SD Question

I downloaded apps2sd in the market and if I move an apps to as it actually moves it to the internal usb storage and not a as card. At the bottom it says there is 11.5 gb available. So wouldn't the apps still run the same speed since they are being moved to just another partition on the internal storage?

I believe we have 2gb or so internal storage for apps on this phone... so there should really be no need for apps2sd...
To answer ur question, if the internal memory is just a partition of the total space on the phone, then yes, the apps should be recalled at the same speed...
Since we have so much internal space for apps however, its better to keep the apps on the internal memory, so when u mount ur "sd", u can still run ur apps

Yeah I just thought that apps couldn't go into the USB storage. Just kinda cool if you run out of room even though 2gb is a lot of space.

[Q] Apps2sd Pros and Cons

Total noob question, but I'm gonna ask anyways. What are the pros and cons of storing apps on your sd card instead of the internal memory. I'm debating on whether or not I should use this feature. I know that it frees up internal memory, but at what cost? Does it free up any ram? Does it increase or decrease your phones performance? And bottom line....is it worth it? And do you use it? Thanks for the input
It's not exactly what you'd call a "newbie" question but at the same time by no means something you couldn't have google'd and found about, thus eliminating the need for this thread.
Apps2SD allows you to install android applications to the SD Card. For a phone like the Desire Z, which has a lot of internal storage (1GB dedicated to applications) it really has no use for this. I guess this was made fore phones that didn't have a lot of internal storage (like the HTC Desire for example). The downside to this is that SD apps will have slower loading times. (since SD Cards are slower than eMMC chips)
It's a great feature, but for our device it is useless as we have enough internal storage space for applications.
Slow SD cards could slow down your apps, and connecting and disconnecting micro SD card from computer can also cause issues with apps on the SD card.
Okay. Based on that info I'm going to opt out of using that feature then. And in the future I will be sure to use google before creating a thread. Thanks for the input!

[Q] Not Enough Storage Space for System & Is 10GB normal for internal space?

Went to scan something with Photo Reader and was told that I didn't have enough storage space available. This seemed odd to me as I've installed fewer apps than on my tablet, and haven't even had time to download data files for most of the games.
1.45 GB Available, and it's not enough space for system functions?
Is ~10GB how much I should have internal?
EDIT - Probably should have said 11GB, just actually looked at the full number 10.97 is rather closer to 11 than 10... And that's why you sleep at 3 am not post!

[Q] something better than link2sd for stock rom?

I'm using the stock kernel and, of course, facing issues with the small internal memory. I'm using link2sd, but it still leaves a fair amount of data in the internal memory (ie, 16 mb for Asphalt 6, 14 mb for Facebook, 13 mb for Flash, a couple of mb for many other apps), so I'm always with a somewhat limited space for applications.
So I wonder if there is something capable of moving far more data to the SD card, so I don't need to worry about having enough room for apps. I was looking at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spazedog.mounts2sd but it mentions init.d support, and googling about all that stuff doesn't really explain it in more layman terms.

You cant be using Link2Sd properly then. It leaves virtually nothing in the internal memory. I had a 32gb SD card full of games and still had about 200mb free internal memory. When you create a link are you trying to move the apps to SD afterwards as they should show as being on internal?
Well, I have it set up to link automatically on application install, and to link application, dalvik-cache and libraries. The install locationis set to external and I have ticked the check boxes to relink libraries and dex files at startup.
To test it, I've unistalled Facebook and reinstalled. Once the app finishes installing, I get the link2sd notification that it's linking it to the SD. I login to my account and once I go to the application settings to check the app size, it reports a total of 31,33 MB, of which 23,56 MB correspond to the aplication and 7,77 MB to data. And has the option to move to the SD so it's certainly in the internal memory.
Link2SD storage info reports the internal memory (380 Mb total, 15% free), the Sd card (12% free) and the sd card's second partition, at /data/sdext2, with 712 MB total, of which 390Mb are used.
Sorry for bumping, but is the link2sd behaviour I'm describing normal behaviour then?

Yes, it does appear to be normal behaviour. Try going into the Link2SD app and see if it says whether the app is linked or not. I've had instances where my apps don't get linked even after running the process. When you check the application size in settings (not in Link2SD), the application size will remain unchanged as I think Link2SD treats your partition as internal storage and therefore it still shows the application as it's full size as opposed to how much of it is actually on your internal storage
