ATT 3g? - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Hi I setup my incredible 2 (with cyagenmod 7.2) onto airvoice wireless
but the best speed I could pull ffrom att was about .22 mbit
I was told you could do 4-5 mbit so I'm wondering what was wrong..? I used these settings from here
and also tried these settings.. the internet worked but all I could get was again .20 mbit at best..

We've retired our DI2 & using them only as travel phones on GSM, and, yes, the best it can do is 2.5G or Edge, due to hardware/APN & software limitations - it is also missing the proper 3G radio bands used by AT&T (and T-Mo) for its faster mobile broadband. There isn't a custom Rom solution availability - sorry. It's fine for checking email, GPS & weather, etc. and not streaming video or youtube on these speed. Keep in mind that even while it's on CDMA, the best it can do was 3G speed.
If you travel with this & access other carriers or roaming providers using the compatible 3G band as the DI2, then - you can get faster 3G speed on the device. Domestically here within the US, it will not be happening.

Yah, well I still don't understand.. I know for example 3g from sprint or Verizon should be capable of 2+ mbit (usually a mbit or less depending on umm network in the area)
So it was my impression again.. att or tmobile could do up to 4-5 mbit on some of there 3G and yah again supporting some of the frequencies the Inc2 supports..

Well, just b/c Sprint or VZW's network is capable of 2+ MB speed doesn't say or mean much, unless you are standing next to the tower. I could never get half of those speed from home or at the office, but if I mvoe several blocks closer - yeah, I can usually hit 1.5M download, upload was still horrible. And, it is not just the speed but the latency - yours are pretty bad but typical of slower Edge/2.5G from the distance.
With the unlocked DI2 on GSM/UMTS with 3G, I've managed to pull these speed - it's still "slow" compared to the Nexus 5 on 4G / LTE - keep in mind HTC released them almost 2 1/2 years ago designed for Froyo or 2.3 and never officially upgraded/enhanced them to run GB, and these were discontinued for a year now - it is practically worthless with zero trade-in value and sell for almost nothing on eBay.

t mobile data plan web n walk 360kbs hsdpa

I was never a t-mobile fan but they offerd me a deal was not bad, 35 pm 18 mnth desire free and unlimited internet , but the internet under web n walk is is very slow , after 4 phone call to t mob , looking at my account checked all the settings i cant get over 360kbs on HSDPA , which is stupidly slow and i it seems that i have to pay for a booster to get my speed up.
As per tru call centre experiance I get different reasons every time i cal,l 1 person said that ur data setting are not right our end, the other said that i have fixed it , another said " nah sorry that ur speed ".
Has any 1 else experianced this or can i change anything on my phone to enable HSDPA " I get the H sign" as it feels like 3g speed.

Since T-Mobile adopted their "Unlimited internet" plans for Android etc contracts, they have reduced their speeds. I spoke with one of their technical support teams who confirmed it.
If you pay extra and get Web n Walk Max (usually only available on business tarrifs now) you will get full speed.

i got around 900 at one point on 3g, recently only been getting around 500 though. On t-mobile 35 month plan too.
I get about 500kbps on H. This is quick enough for me for a mobile device! Pages load up very quickly. I can understand the need to ration the bandwidth on a cellular service, especially when the tariffs are so cheap (I pay £10 a month for unlimited internet, 100 mins, unlimited landlines).

I phoned T-Mobile and found they had the wrong phone registered to my account. they had a Nokia something not the desire.
As soon as the lady the other end change it to the correct phone (apparently thier system works this way) I got full HSDPA speeds - well 2.8M but better than before.
Seems that the shop i got the phone from (Movbilephonesdirect) just register any old phone to your SIM.
just done a test. getting 1.78mbps down and 0.38 up on H. still on original g1 android plan as only upgraded phone.

Had same problem - t-mobile could not get full speed even after changing phone on system, Canceled t-mobile contract due to could not get more than 360kbps.
i will begetting on vodafone now.
I had this problem, they told me to take it to the T-Mobile store to check it.
So I go 5 minutes down the road, albeit "Truley" in the city centre.
Do a speedcheck at the store and I'm getting 1.8mb
It seems their internet coverage is very hit and miss (either that or because I'm usually doing my speedchecks indoors )
I'm getting two different reading! In my area I can pick up full bar with HSDPA. Using speedtest app, I only get 360Kbps on HSDPA max. but when I go the browser and check speedtest in www.mobilespeedtest.com I get on average 2686Kbps using 1MB test. who is right?
I called up t-mobile before I done the test on www.mobilespreedtest.com. to complain about getting 360kbps, they done all the routing checked:which are checking my htc desire is register to my sim card, my present area postcard can pick up 3G&HSPDA, switching it to GMS only, than WCDMA only, take out the battery, and sim card, rebooting it etc but no luck after I test the speed again in speedtest app. at the end all they can say was the phone is new and they don't have the configuration setting on their system to assist me at this present time!

For all people on T-Mobile receiving speeds of around 360kbps on HSDPA connections:
You need to dial 150, select technical support. Tell the operator that you are only receiving 3g speeds of around 360Kbps in HSDPA location. You must advise the operator that you have done speed tests that reflect this.
They should then upgrade your account to receive HSDPA speeds.
The reason you only get 360Kbps is because you are on Web 'N' Walk which is a handset only broadband service.
T-Mobile are generally more than happy to upgrade the account to receive the higher speeds. Just make sure you speak to technical support and not customer services as they will not have a clue about this.
mine on Mobile speed test says 889kbps
Did the 1mb test and it says 2740kbps which was top of the charts!

Agree with this 100%. I had this problem a few years ago. Customer Servicves DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT HSDPA is. Ask for technical support, do not let them fob you off. The whole point of 'H' is that you are getting speeds of 360kps+, not 360kbps max.
Just done test I'm getting 3200kbps, full signal on H.

Im getting 3g speeds on HSPDA using speedtest.
Using your site, im getting speeds in EXCESS of HSPDA speeds.
Therefore I can only assume theres something wrong with your site.

i got my phone from an HTC retailer in Tottenham Court Road (London) and put my old HTC Touch Diamond 2 t-mobile sim card in it that i got from Mobilephonesdirect.
I've not done anything special on my phone or even told t-mobile and I live in a crappy town called Aldershot in the middle of the sticks but my results were
Your speed: 2657.807 Kbps
Your latency: 0.3 seconds
Transferred 1000 KB in 3.01 seconds
which isn't too bad i guess
Mobilespeedtest.com seems inaccurate. It's giving me very fast scores and I'm in a basement. I can hardley make phone calls yet I'm getting readings of 2000+ Kbps. Speedtest.net is giving a more realistic 1,300 Kbps
Web'n'walk settings
Hi guys,
totally new here and to Mobile Internet. Could someone please let me know of the settings for web'n'walk on the HTC Desire?
I tried the t-mobile.co.uk but is currently down. Also sent a text to have settings automatically sent to my phone, but response said 'Device not supported'.
I have a sim-free phone with a t-mobile solo (pay monthly) plan. Do I need to somehow activate web'n'walk? I tried some stuff* on my phone, but no luck.
Is there an icon that should appear on top of my sceen when I've got 3G coverage?

[Q] HSDPA & 3G connection on Rogers & Bell

Hi all,
I"m new here, with a quick question based on my usage today on both the Bell and Rogers network.
I unlocked my HTC Desire Z this afternoon, and I tried it out on Rogers to see what the speeds were like. It has been an odd experience. Here's the background, and my question is below.
Background:
- Aside from being unlocked, it is as originally shipped from Bell (e.g. no root access, ROM hasn't been flashed etc.)
- APN settings were taken from Rogers' own website (e.g. using rogers-core-appl1.apn).
- Speeds tested in downtown Toronto.
Experience so far:
Bell
I get a solid HSDPA indicator all the time (save elevators etc., when there is no connection). I can remember seeing a 3G connection icon perhaps once on Bell since I got it last week. Speeds are very good, four to five bars most of the time
Rogers
I get a solid 3G icon almost all of the time, except when I'm using data, in which case it seems to switch over to the HSDPA icon. Literally, it will show a 3G, and then if I try to browse the web, the icon will immediately switch to an H from a 3G and the web page will load quite quickly.
I was concerned that it was dropping the HSDPA connection frequently, and using 3G instead -- changing towers constantly. So I tried speedtesting it. The results were completely opposite what I expected.
Speedtest Results:
Using the Speedtest.net app (from Ookla) testing against the same Oakville, ON server from Toronto, I'm getting speeds dramatically faster on Rogers. I did three speedtests for each network.
Bell:
Fastest Down: 3411 kbps Fastest Up: 1633 kbps
Slowest Down: 1969 kbps Slowest Up: 1331 kbps
Rogers:
Fastest Down: 5740 kbps Fastest Up: 3766 kbps
Slowest Down: 5405 kbps Slowest Up: 1551 kbps
Ping latency was generally slightly higher on Rogers than Bell.
Question
Does anyone understand why, on Rogers, the Desire Z would be showing a 3G until data is requested, at which time it swaps over to show an H icon (e.g. HSDPA), whereas on Bell, it shows a constant HSDPA connection?
I would have thought that it would be slower on Rogers since it was showing 3G and then the icon switches to H, but I'm guessing that the icon switch isn't really reflecting what's going on, since the speeds are faster when this icon switch occurs. Any ideas?

Its not just the Desire Z but also most smartphones on rogers. i had a samsung galaxy and it did the same thing. However, (correct me out there, if im wrong) But i remember reading the HSDPA was inbetween 3g and 3.5g?...i dont remmeber but to me i know that Rogers is faster, my brother has a Bell phone and my speeds were always faster.

HSDPA is actually one of the 3G protocols.
In everyday language HSDPA is often referred to as much faster than (basic) 3G so I would call it much faster as well.

Not sure there really is a 3.5G as such, but if there is, then HSDPA is it. It provides faster speeds than the standard 3G (UMTS) protocols. There's also HSPA+ coming out, which is even faster. HSPA+ isn't 4G, although confusingly some carriers in the US (T-Mobile I think ?) are referring to it as such.
On O2 in the UK, I get the same effect, holds at 3G then switches to HSDPA when in use. There doesn't seem to be any latency when switching and if it can't achieve HSDPA it remains at 3G. Speedtest returns about 1.5-2 Mbit which is normal.
I can only imagine its a power saving feature as from experience with the Touch Diamond 2 / Touch Pro 2, having HSDPA enabled sucked battery life significantly. I don't remember this happening on those phones either. Seems like a good idea, but would be nice to choose (always on, auto, always off)
I actually used to disable HSDPA and use 3G exclusively and consistently got 2-3 days out of both phones with moderate use. I never missed it.

That must be it -- interestingly, I went into the About Phone > Network > Signal Strength menu to check it out. When the icon is showing 3G, the "Mobile network type" is UTMS. When data is being transmitted, the icon immediately switches to H and the "Mobile network type" reports HSDPA.
Very cool -- I'm going to see if this -- by itself -- extends my battery life tomorrow. Thanks for the feedback!

Just FYI -- there has been a dramatic improvement in my battery life on Rogers, compared to what I was experiencing on Bell. Typically, I would be at about 40% battery life left at this point in the day (presumably because I was constantly connected to HSDPA with Bell). Whereas I'm at 80% battery life left with the Rogers 3G connection, and I've still been connected to Wi-Fi for the past five hours and browsing reasonably heavily.

Interesting, as Bell has rolled out several HSPA+ areas, Toronto being one of them, and Rogers still only has HSPA.
What I found odd on my DZ (still on Bells network) is that my Network Mode is GSM / WCDMA auto (never seen this on any other handset I've hand that's been HSDPA) and I understand that the HSDPA networks here are CDMA with a GSM overlay (ie, the need for a SIM card, etc) and I frequently see my icon changing from 3G to H (again, this is only on my DZ), but Bell only has a CDMA EVDO 3G network and the HSPA "3G+" network, there's not really a GSM enabled 3G network.
I'm confused, as on my Telus Milestone, it's constantly H, never once seen 3G appear on it, and Telus and Bell share their network.
Maybe I'm just horribly misinformed.
I donno if it is just me but I seem to be getting ridiculously slow 3G speeds here on my unlocked Desire Z using Rogers. I go to school in Hamilton at McMaster and most of the times the 3G is nigh on unusable because of its speeds. I don't know if it is an app or anything that has caused it because it was never slow when I first got the phone.
I am running the virtuous rom 0.72 atm. I do have half a mind to just factory reset the device adn see if that fixes the issues however I really don't want to lose all of my contacts and other settings that I have on this device.

The same thing happening to me with Galaxy S,and this started a few days ago.
I unlocked my phone and I am using it on Telenor Serbia a and past two weeks it was just H all the time,now it's 3g all the time and when I start browsing it switch to H again and it work well,but why do that,should I be concern?

For me on O2 UK, it depends on the area.. Sometimes its solid 3G, sometimes solid H and sometimes 3G when idle, H when in use.. I guess its the base station software / hardware..

If you've snyced with google then your contacts will just sync back. And I go to school at Mac as well and usually the speeds are really slow inside any buildings... If i don't have full bars then the speed will be crap, otherwise they are fine. But I am on Fido, not Bell.
Also, I thought that Bell didn't have a 2G GSM network? If that is the case then that could be why only H would be appearing...

It could be anything to be honest.. Your operator could have updated the base station.
It seems the phone is designed to do this probably to save power, HSDPA is battery intensive so having the phone in 3G while in standby probably saves quite a bit of power..
You could try emailing HTC with the question before your operator.

Have you switched your phone to stay in umts only to get this dramatic battery gain?

Nearly there (source Wikipedia),
GSM is 2G
GPRS is 2.5G
EDGE is 2.75G
UTMS is 3G
HSxPA is 3.5G
I would put HSPA+ as 3.75G as its slightly different to HSxPA but would settle for 3.5G
Broadly speaking battery life reduces the higher the generation but I think UTMS can be more efficient than 2.xG sometimes. (NOT HS... which is generally terrible all over hence the behaviour between 3G and H)
I always used to disable HSxPA because of the battery life, its just not easy on this phone. It requires root and editing a prop file..

you can't. you either have data on or data off. What drains the battery more is having your phone switch between edge/3g/H/H+ automatically.
Our phones are not like an lte phone. Our 4g is really just souped up 3g so you either get edge our 4g.

When your phone is switching from 3G to H (which you don't see anymore, all you see now is E or 4G) your not switching technologies. Back when you saw 3G vs H it just ment your phone was idle and not transferring data. When H came on, you were doing data.
There is also no difference in switching from HSPA to HSPA+. It is the same data, just one is a little faster.
Now, before T-Mobile launched HSPA, yes, there was Rev99 data which was slow like Edge and your phone only displayed 3G. But that has been gone for a long time.
As far as switching from GSM to UMTS (Edge data to HSPA data) yes, that will cause battery drain if it is continuous. This is because the phone is trying to reestablish a data connection.
In summary, you no longer see 3G on your phone, only 4G which replaces the 3G/H icons. When you are connected to 3G you are NOT switching technologies when you use HSPA data, your just activating data thus you are NOT draining more than normal amounts of battery. When you switch from 2G to 3G you ARE switching technologies so if your continuously bouncing from 2G to 3G that can cause increase in battery drain.

No, everyone is VERY confused with this. They are the same radio. HSPA+ is the data side of 3G. T-Mobile is just calling it 4G because Sprint got away with hit with their WiMax. EVER cell site on T-Mobile's network has HSPA activated. This means there is no longer 3G data.

well, the drain is likely due to dual cell usage. You can disable dual cell which will knock your top speed down to 21 (theoretical) Mbps. So get to service mode select Debug Screen - > Phone Control -> NAS Control -> RRC(HSPA) Control -> Change RRC Revision ->
DL speeds for items listed are as follows:
R99 = 384kbps
Rel 5 = 7.2
Rel 6 = 14.4
Rel 7 = 21
Rel 8 = 42

Couldn't you force your phone on the 850 UMTS frequency? I say this because I thought HSPA /+ran on the 1700 and 2100 bands so theoretically you could actually be on 3G. I know jugs rom allows you to switch the data icons displayed to 3G for UMTS and H/4G for HSPA /+

T-Mobile doesn't use/have 850 range.
Let me see if I can explain this a little better. T-mobile launched their 3G network on a UMTS platform utilizing WCDMA technology. It's like Verizon and Sprints CDMA but with the W which stands for Wideband. CDMA stands for Code Devision Multiple Access. Wideband is what allows T-Mobile to have such high data rates. Standard CDMA has a 2.5MHz bandwidth while WCDMA has a 5MHz bandwidth for each carrier they are utilizing. Currently, most (not all) major cities have dual carrier launched so those sites are actually using 10MHz of bandwidth. This allows for 42Mbps speeds. 21 for each carrier. We are actually starting to deploy 3rd carrier which will allow 1 carrier just for voice so the full 42Mbps is use solely for data. 84 is a COMPLETELY different story and I will not bother with that for now.
Moving on. When T-Mobile built their network they built it with HSPA in mind. You see, HSPA and HSPA+ are add on data technologies that work on a WCDMA network. They are NOT a separate signal to your phone. Following? Hope so! So, with that said, when your device is connected to a 3G cell site, the data available is HSPA+ and the voice is over what you are calling 3G. They are, in fact, the same signal.
HSPA/HSPA+ data is on the same signal as your 3G voice. You are NOT receiving 2 signals. You CANNOT separate them.
Now, on to frequencies. There are 2 modes that you can run WCDMA in, full duplex and half duplex. T-Mobile decided to go with full duplex. I'm assuming (low man on the totem pole here so don't know for sure) this was to have greater data rates. This is why T-Mobile uses 2 frequencies. 1 in 1700 band for transmit, 1 in 2100 band for receive. This is also where T-Mobile differentiates from ATT (and exceeds! ) because ATT went with half duplex and only uses 1 frequency. So, T-Mobile phones have the ability to transmit and receive at the same time while ATT phones do not.
With all of that said, and hopefully understood, you should now know that it DOES NOT MATTER WHAT THE FRIG ICON YOUR PHONE SHOWS!!!!. Sorry, been trying to get that point across. The firggin icon doesn't not mean ****. The fact that you can have a 3G icon and a separate H does not mean ****. If you do have separate 3G and H icons like older T-Mobile phones and you can see it switching that is because while your phone is idle (NO DATA) it will display 3G. While your phone is doing data (ON THE SAME CONNECTION) it will display H. It is a simple indicator to let you know you are using HSPA data.
T-Mobile did away with both icons and replaced them with the 4G icon when they went to the 4G ad campaign. Get it, got it, good!

I don't think your actually disabling the 2nd carrier. I think your just limiting the max data rate your phone will do. As I previously stated, the phone will connect to what the cell site has. You will always be connected to a 10MHz bandwidth if the site is a dual carrier site.

the 4G and 3G radio uses the same circuit
so if you disable 4G you will also need to disable 3G
so technically yes you can disable 3G and work 2G on to receive push data

Yes, in idle, but we're talking about limiting data here, not idle states. So therefore, if you are connected to a dual carrier site and in a data session you will be utilizing both carriers regardless of your data rate.

Was trying to give a simplistic explanation. I guess next time I will just link wikipedia.
The whole point of the discussion was that you cannot turn off the HSPA on your phone and use just 3G. I have not messed with the settings you are suggesting and I don't know that I would as inexperienced users can mess their phones up in those menus. I suppose you could force your phone to R99 mode and that might work but forcing to 21Mbps only I still think you will be using both carriers when using data. Will do testing and report back.

NP. shouldn't have fired back that hard. Technically you only get DC if their is enough capacity on the site so its not a given. You & Allgamer are correct there is no "4G" radio its all one radio on the chip, however changing that setting actually should affect the software which i'll give a brief primer on.
R99 = 1 code with a spreading factor of 16 (surprisingly probably the least power efficient of the group)
HSDPA (7.2) = 10 codes with spreading factor of 16 (in our case likely the most efficient power wise)
HSPA (14.4) = 15 codes with spreading factor of 16
HSPA+ (21) = 15 codes with spreading factor of 16 & 64QAM
HSPA+ (42) = HSPA+(21) * 2.
so with the phone not having to decode 64QAM + using less codes the CPU shouldn't have to ramp up as much to process the data.

I totally agree with this. I'm still not convinced, though, that switching form single to dual carrier is doing much as far as battery drainage. It's not like switching modes between GSM and UMTS or LTE and CDMA (Verizon/ATT world) and trying to reestablish on the network. I mean I guess it could cause a little but something is my brain is just saying that the switching isn't doing that much. Now doubling the bandwidth and data rate, yeah, that is definitely increasing battery usage but the switching itself I just don't know.
Honestly I get mixed battery life depending on my daily usage so testing would be hard. That is unless it's huge differences. I set my phone to Revision 8 and see it its huge improvements.
On a side note, and could just be that phone, but 2 of my friends have Thunderbolts and they get like 2-4 hours of battery life. Something WILL have to be done to fix battery life on LTE.
Well, as somebody said i tried the service mode and got too excited and ****up alot of stuff, wiped and installed jug again but looks like the settings got saved . Anyway to reset all the settings there?

Basically i touched alot of stuff. Wow i ****ed up!!!! no signal and nothing is showing, no dbm or carrier but when i go to settings/networks it shows up att and tmobile in carriers
It also says RRC: IDLE, BAND 5 in basic info
I messed up with Fake Security something, Antenna/adc, network control
Edit: Putting the sim that came with the phone in, it connected and showed dbm but then after 1min it just had an x on the network bars.

I feel like mine said band 4 earlier today but I cant be for sure. I don't have 3G at my house so I can't test till tomorrow.
You could always try reflashing the phone with odin and stock to see if that fixes those defaults but I'm not sure where they are written. Definitely not in the ROM. Maybe the bootloader or radio image have this information stored so flashing stock oden .tar may fix it? Sorry, I really don't know and this is EXACTLY why I said people shouldn't be messing with these settings.

well... i guess in this case too much info is a bad thing. My suggestion was to TOUCH ONLY the RRC settings ... anything else is a crapshoot

Reverting the setting back doesn't/didn't do anything for me. I had to flash stock odin rom+recovery
I know someone said previously that the "4G" icons don't mean much as it will usually show "E" or "4G". However, my phone showed "3G" the other day while I was at home and I only saw this once. Someone on another board said that means it was picking up 1900mhz WCDMA as supposedly T-Mobile is starting to use HSPA on 1900mhz in certain areas. Is that correct?

To give you an idea, LTE can "theoretically" max at 300 mbps (mbps = mega bits per second -- most carriers/ISP's provide this), which would translate to 37.5 megabytes/sec. Do you get that now? Very unlikely. Friends who have LTE are only getting around 24 mbps, which is still really fast.
HSPA+, which is what AT&T's "4G" (not 4G LTE -- it's the 3.5G) as well as T-Mobile's has a peak of about 42 mbps -- and I've seen folks here (Houston) get really close to that in speed -- which translates to a little over 5 megabytes/sec.
T-Mo and AT&T are actively working to get more and more LTE towers and service created (they have HSPA+). T-Mo hasn't rolled theirs out at all, except I think for testing in a few select, small markets, if I remember correctly. AT&T has service in LTE already established.
LTE is the way of the future at the moment. Kind of like the HD-DVD vs bluray debacle years ago -- LTE won out over another 4G technology, WiMax, which was on several earlier phones on Sprint. Sprint finally conceded it lost and start building out an LTE network to replace their WiMax one.
Hopefully, that's a NICE BIG chunk of knowledge that you can partially digest.

Ya it's a huge difference, put it like this;
We get 3mbps and LTE gets 30mbps. Of course I am over simplifying things but LTE is about 10X faster then 3G which is what we have.

Depends on where they're deployed, though. At the moment, in my mind, though, HSPA+ is fast enough. LTE is nice and important for future-proofing, but I don't see a need for it for another... probably 3-5 years. Keep in mind, most people's home internet is like 3-12 mbps on average. HSPA+ current results for my city are WELL above this for all providers.
You realize that Cappy Glide can get HSPA+ which goes up to 42mbps -- you could theoretically download at > 5 megabytes/sec under ideal circumstances... I currently pull around 1-2 megabytes/sec... Why would you ever need more on this current gen -- especially with data-capping?
Just saying I have a friend on the same cellular provider as me and he has that new Windows Phone from Nokia on LTE and me with the glide. We did a speed test and I got around 2.5mbps and he got 25.mbps. I agree for everyday stuff 2.5 mbps is enough, but I just have to say I was drooling when I saw the speed he was getting on Rogers which is whoI have.
I have 2 years left on my Contract and I am happy with my Glide but for sure in 2 years I will make sure my next phone is a LTE device. I have a 6Gigs download cap so I am not to worried about caps after all it is a cell phone and 6 gigs should be plenty.
Fair enough -- seems that Rogers is much different as a carrier than the ones here in the US. I've had friends on HSPA+ on T-Mobile at like 30ish mbps and friends on LTE on Verizon at 35 mbps. It wasn't a super big difference. But until you hit double-digits on the speed, I can totally understand the drool you emit and why.

That table is misleading. Most cablecos have rolled out DOCSIS3, capable of 50Mbps at the low end, yet you'd be lucky if there's a 20Mbps package available at all. VDSL is a similar story. Realistically, you're gonna see one, maybe two Mbps real-world, even on LTE. When you're talking about actual bandwidth delivered to your device, you won't see ANY improvement upgrading past UMTS. In the US market, all the benefits of the newer technologies are exclusively on the side of the carriers -- you will see nothing.
Stay on WiFi, folks.

The Captivate Glide on AT&T in the US is capable of a rated 21Mbps maximum speed...I have one on a NET10/AT&T SIM in Los Angeles and have so far seen up to 11Mbps in speed tests, but it can also be much slower, dependent on the traffic on the network where I happen to be - the phone's indicator nearly always says "4G" even if my download speeds are less than 500k. If you have a Samsung Relay on T-Mobile (the closest phone to the Captivate Glide design-wise) it has a max rated speed of 42Mbps, and the T-Mobile network usually has faster average data speeds regardless, as long as you're on 4G, but their network is smaller. At this point I'm paying $46 a month on NET10/AT&T versus $55 a month on Page Plus for a 3G phone that maxes at 2.5Mbps (usually around 1200k) on Verizon's network, both with 2GB of data (I use WiFi as much as possible). For my needs I'm willing to spend a lot less with a MVNO prepaid network and live with the HSPA+, rather than paying $100 a month and up for LTE on Verizon, AT&T or Sprint - LTE is also a big battery hog. The fact I was able to get a slightly used Glide for around $100 helped as well, rather than paying hundreds more for an LTE phone and/or being locked into an expensive contract.

UUf i would never pay so much ..
I have one contract for 12 months (sim only) so am locked but am paying £15 a month and I have unlimited internet and unlim. SMS , then 600 minutes that my girlfriend uses .. (she never use all 600 minutes .. she is texting more ..)
And I had Giff Gaff previously .. it is based on O2 but it is cheaper and it is sim only . I used to pay £10 a month for unlimited internet unlim. texts and 250 minutes .. BUT they increased package to £12 so I started NOT liking it cos speed is not as fast as on 3 network
So I have decided to go with 3 network (same as my girlfriend) but it is SIM only pay as u go so it is 15 pounds a month no contract am not locked and I have same package as girlfriend but NOT 600 minutes but 300 minutes of call .. and that is way enough for me .. internet and SMS unlimited that is my priority..

[Q] Only can get H and H+ on T-mobile with US version of Find 7a

Was briefly excited on the arrival of my US version from oppostyle, but after hours of T-mobile tech support, a factory reset, APN attempts, still no LTE or proper 3g even on my Find 7, even though I live in a strong 3g/4g area...only (HSPA) H and H+. Can anyone help?

Hmm, those match my settings and I am getting LTE. Dumb question, but have you restarted? I noticed my phone can get kinda quirky when switching between APN's, or if the data gets turned off by another app for some dumb reason or another.
I have a feeling there is a little more tweaking to do to the modem from Oppo...

I get LTE (4G) with these setting just fine on TMO in Texas.... remember it will show 4G not LTE.

Have you confirmed that you actually have LTE in your area?
Remember that for years, T-Mobile and AT&T called HSPA+ "4G"

I was uunclear about H+, have just been looking up info....Was on Verizon, a GSM newbee here
However, I am seeing very slow speeds on HSPA+ and HSP...not even seeing much of a difference in speeds between the two on my device.

Also, on my roadtrip yesterday to Medford, I was capping off at around 10 Mbps on LTE at the most, which seems a ,ittle slow for LTE.

Sometimes your coverage can be solid but the backhaul (connection between towers and the Internet) can be awful. AT&T's local reps even told me that the local LTE isn't going to be particularly good for a while until they upgrade the backhaul to the towers.
Your HSPA+ speeds seem low, but that's in comparison with my AT&T experiences. I might try doing a speedtest comparison of LTE between my Nexus 5 and my Find 7a if I can.
I was reading the pocketnow review and they had trouble getting the phone to work on AT&T and T-mobile in the US. Does this phone even support T-Mobile LTE bands? In most areas T-Mobile has their LTE on the AWS band.

Mine does get all of these (4G, H, H+, etc.) but the problem is most of the time it can't even get data connection.
GPRS Setting for LTE works for Me
I was having problems connecting to data,calls no problem (OPPO FIND 7 USA).
Anyway,the automatic APN settings weren't right for me,I had to manually set the APN Protocol setting to IPV4 (wasn't set,reading Not Set) & it finally connected to 4G LTE.
Here's the strange part:
The APN Name (On OPPO FIND 7,USA Model) is T-Mobile GPRS NOT T-Mobile LTE.
If I changed the name,it wouldn't connect to data at all.
From best I can tell via web search, GPRS is synonymous with 2G,however,I have 4G LTE when this APN Name is used.
I've seen others having a hard time connecting to the network & seems this bug arose in the latest update.
Anyway,my settings are identical to those in the pics in the OP EXCEPT the very 1st line,the APN Name.
Where I'm at right now is notorious for a weak signal due to building/equipment interference,however,I'm picking up an excellent signal (-90 to -80dBm / 53asu) on LTE:13

Yes.
As it is now,w/the APN Name as T-Mobile GPRS & in the hidden menu,changing the preferred network to LTE has no effect,it stays connected to LTE & everything below that which is available in my area.
I just left it as UNKNOWN.
I tried changing the APN Name to T-Mobile LTE & it immediately disconnects,regardless of any other changes in the hidden menus.
As the phone senses/sets-up Auto APN,the only apparent thing that is omitted is the APN Protocol setting,which by default on my phone & SIM Card registered Not Set.
Changing that value to IPV4 (from Not Set) is what made the difference.
Perhaps this quirk has something to do with 2G in my area having been replaced/upgraded to 4G & 4G LTE & the phone doesn't sense the difference/recognize the difference but in name only,but,accepts the 4G/LTE Connection.
Not knowing all things network/etc..,this seems like a possible explanation.
All I know is that I have an excellent connection & fast speeds w/browsing/etc.....
I don't care what the phone calls it,or sees it as,success is success.
I've seen stranger things than this........
I have since replaced my SIM CARD & had no problems connecting to T-MOBILE's 4G LTE,no modification of the APN was needed.
However,this is while flashed to CYANOGENMOD 11 nightlies,have no idea if the previous issues would pop-up if running the stock COLOR 1.2.4i O/S.
I have had issues with T-mobile LTE. Played around with all the settings. Deleted the APN and created a new one, etc. It works now, but I didn't do anything special, it started working randomly a day or 2 later
Strangely enough I'm having the same problem getting 3g with Virgin (EE/TMobile) in the UK
It can take a while for LTE to provision after setting up the APN. Set it and let it try for about an hour.

The APN setting should have no effect on this.
You have 2 different fields when you type *#*#4636#*#*, gsm service and gprs service. If gsm service does not show "in service", you can use any APN in the world and it still won't work.
