Can someone explain to me why the 4.3 Update isn't in Kies? I've seen 2 people mention that it won't be in Kies at all, but I have no idea why. I've got an unlocked AT&T Note 2 in Canada, so OTA updates are not an option for me. If Kies doesn't get updated, is there any other option for me to update the stock firmware without rooting the device?

If Samsung doesn't host 4.3 in kies your only option will be wait until it gets uploaded online then you can download it and flash thru odin. Or wait until a stock rooted rom gets posted in the development section and flash that zip thru cwm. The latter option is your best bet if your into rooting and custom recovery, otherwise an odin install will give you stock 4.3. Other than wait for a download of one type or another, your out of luck since you won't be able to connect to att network to receive the ota update. As to why it's not on kies? That's anyone's guess, but typically the newest firmwares are available under emergency recovery flash in the tools section of kies. Unfortunately neither kies 2 or kies 3 will function with my note 2. Idk if it's bc I'm rooted with a custom 4.3 note 3 rom that I've been running for a month or so. But to be honest the stock 4.3 is a bit disappointing, which is why I say wait a few days till a dev has made a rom with new 4.3 as a base and thrown in some extra features.

It's not an official rom yet.

The OTA just hit, so it's not going to be available for download via Sammobile for a decent amount of time, let alone Kies. Shoot, MA4 isn't even available via Kies still to this date. Who knows if the MK6 4.3 build will be or not.
The update still has not released nationwide yet. I don't see kies or sammobile making the firmware available until AT&T has released to all markets. Give it a week or 2 and it should be up for the taking.

I'm gonna say no. You can always use ODIN or just flash CWM and flash a stock rooted ROM.
Nice last name by the way
It's mine too.
You can also use Kies to get the update.
Woke up in middle of the night, saw this waiting for me. Had synced via Kies about 6 hours earlier and it wasn't there. Haven't noticed any differences in very brief use, and I am going back to sleep. Sammobile has it up now as well.
EDIT:
T-Mobile now has a post up about the update here: http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-4446

i dont think this is the 4.1.2. i installed it and still 4.1.1. In sammobile it says 4.1.2, you can download it now.
No major changes. It appears to be a minor update. If you don't get it via OTA or Kies, you can download and manually install the update.
Check the Sammobile site, they have the 4.1.2 T999 update. the file size is 734mb.

the baseband version # changed. I checked around and found that LTE is no longer showing in the phones network mode menu. (it showed up when we did the 4.1.1 jb install) It is now back to gsm/wcdma, gsm only and wcdma only.

This is my thoughts too... I'm not flashing it... Or any update for that matter as 4.2.1 is working beautifully on my phone with rootbox

I let the update run and reboot. Since it was small I assumed it was to fix that bricking problem I read about a month or so ago. I'm still on stock JB non-rooted until someone makes a ROM with reliable wifi calling.
PS: Bluetooth A2DP still sounds like garbage on my motorola headsets. The crackling is so bad on my S305, that if the headset is at the other end of the room from you, it sounds like someone is opening a bag of chips.
How to disable "phone modified" message from this update?
Recieved the update today as well. Thinkng it was 4.1.2 so I went ahead and updated it. Well unfortunately the update seems to be a "security improvement" for rootes and flashed devices. (Maybe to prevent th from getting 4.1.2, not sure).. Here's the problem I went to check for update and that annoying pop up that my device is modified came up.. so I opened up Triangle Away and reset the flash count to zero and click on"system modified workaround", rebooted amd nothing. Device status still shows as modified. I was always able to get it to say to normal using triangle away. This new update prevents it. Any help? Thanks

You have to be 100% stock (ROM, kernel, and recovery) in order to flash ota updates

Yep ^^^ But also need to be unRooted as well.
You can use OTA Rootkeeper from Supercurio and preserve root that way. Save SU, temp unroot, take OTA, reboot, open OTArk and restore root. That is as long as you have what he said above in place as well.
This morning, I received a notification from T-Mobile that there was a software update to 4.1.2 My phone was rooted and had 4.1.1 installed.
I tried OTA unsuccessfully as it would freeze on me. I connected my cell via usb to my computer for the update using Kies. My computer recognized my cell and was installing the update. The phone rebooted and everything appeared to be going well. When i checked my software version it was still at 4.1.1, now I noticed that my phone was un-rooted. Also, when I try to connect to Kies it does not connect to my phone. I tried several times to update via OTA, it will not connect. Please help, I want to update my phone without loss of my data.

Re: [Q] Software Update 4.2.1 HELP!
I don't think there's an update to 4.1.2 either. Maybe it was a dream.
T-Mobile SGS III
It's all smoke and mirrors.
Not sure yet if it is 4.1.1 with a small patch (as OTA is about 4.3mb) or 4.1.2 (as Sammobile has it listed as 4.1.2 and 700+mb) Jury is still out but here is a thread going on about it ---> New OTA ROM - T999UVDLJC.
We do know that it is not 4.2.1. @OP can you please edit your title accordingly? Post>Edit>Go Advanced Please and thanks.
Edit: Sammobile changed it to 4.1.1. Must have been a typo. It happens. Probably a security patch or something.

Nah, not yet . This thread has evolved into a "Help me get Root back" thread.
I'll let it ride for awhile even though all the answers are readily available. He's brand, spanking new (just registered this morning). But since he is was Rooted, he should know how all this works.
To the OP... the update from what I hear has nothing special.. And if you're rooted, I'm sure you'll be able to flash a custom ROM based off of this update in a matter of weeks.

You can't flash OTA updates on a rooted device. Just unroot, update then reroot. Unless there is a stock 4.2.2 rooted rom out there.

As far as I know, 4.2.2 hasn't been releases for Tab 3 7.0.
Edit: That's a lie actually. I believe it was released for the LTE models. Wonder why hasn't been released for the WiFi models.

I wonder if universal unroot would work?
Is this for real??

Yes it is. KitKat is now available for the Canadian Note II and S III.
It is real! :victory:
Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 upgrade to KitKat now available to download
Now, the real question is : is the bootloader locked ?!
Waiting rooted stock ROM:fingers-crossed:
Telus made their available earlier today, and Bell's is out now.
On a side note, does anyone know how to get the update on a rooted device? I just rooted mine a few weeks ago. Still running stock ROM, but nothing I've tried seems to work.

Forget it, you won't be able to get it through official OTA.
Once you're rooted, your only way to update is to wait for someone to create a flashable zip of the update, flash the entire ROM by downloading from samfirmware or wait for a custom ROM.

Tried updating over KIES - what an ordeal. Had to run through emergency recovery twice but finally got it. I wasn't using root access for a great deal - basically lose out on Greenify automanaging and being able to revoke permissions. I can live with that for a while.
I hear towelroot for the s5 works with the kk update.

KIES doesn't want to recognise my device and Odin is... either stuck on flashing system.img.ext4 or taking really long... heh
EDIT: Changed USB port and Cable and it flashed properly...
Great News!
That's really a great news!!! Anyone planning to make a flashable zipfile for this rom without the bootloader and knox? I preserve 4.1.2 bootloader on my phone since 4.3 came out. So far, is this update good ?? i heard battery life not really good...
Thanks guys!
Has anyone tried installing the firmware using Mobile Odin and using the Everroot option?
I'm not really willing to try it for myself as this is my daily driver phone...
I wouldn't recommend this update. I updated this morning and everything seemed fine until I tried running Waze on the way home from work. My device was plugged into power as it usually is, but now on this new version my battery is actually discharging WHILE connected to power.
Now to look into rolling back. This is a deal breaker.
Edit: And for the record, this drain is confirmed on two different Galaxy S3's in our house.

Be careful using the toolkit. Its been known to brick devices and cause other problems as well.
Yay. Pretty much the same as using any method I suppose. Got lucky I guess.
Is this new bootloader is locked to prevent downgrading to another bootloader ???
Its not "locked" (meaning you can still flash custom recoveries and kernels), but I fully expect it'll be the same as before with regard to downgrading.

Ok. So downgrading from 4.4 bootloader to 4.3 should not work i guess??? . Another question, With 4.4 bootloader, is it possible to flash a 4.3 Rom ???
Correct. Provided its like 4.3, you can only flash the same or newer firmware.
I believe you should still be able to flash older roms like before, but have not seen this confirmed yet.
