[Q] Wi-Fi Issue on CM11 Official - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I am having a strange issue where I cannot connect to Wi-Fi after I turn it off the first time!
If I flash a new nightly the phone will start up and connect to my Wi-Fi network, however when I try to change networks I am never able to connect to another again until I flash again, I just get "Failed to Connect to Network"
Is this just a nightly issue or is it some error with how I flashed it?

Try going into Settings > Wi-Fi > Advanced and change frequency band from auto to 2.4 or 5 depending on what speed your AP(modem) accepts.

Try selecting your AP in Wi-Fi settings and pick forget, rescan or it should auto rescan and find it, try entering in info again and see if that resolves it, another thing to check is what security type you are using on your Modem/AP's - it's a common issue if you have it set to WPA/WPA2-PSK, change it to one of the two, so it's not on both, WPA2-PSK is the best if others on your Wi-Fi can use it too.

Sounds like you might have some data corruption issue then, what recovery and version of it are you using? the recovery must be TWRP 2.6.1.0 or CWM 6.0.3.7+
If you have one of those recovery versions then try an advanced wipe.

I am using TWRP 2.6.3.1, should I still try the advanced wipe for (Cache, Dalvik, and data)? Is there anything else I should include in the wipe?

Yes, wipe System too, it cant hurt to wipe all except internal/external SD's, preload shouldn't need to be wiped unless you were coming from stock or pre 4.3 rom, if you really want to wipe preload, do it separate, from TWRP you click settings and check 'uses rm -rf instead of format', wipe preload and then go back to setting and uncheck before wiping other partitions.

how to upgrade cm?

SGH-T999L with CM_10.1.2.
I received ROM update notification for 10.2.1. What's the correct way to upgrade the ROM?
Thanks.
Either download the Rom and Gapps zips to sd card or use the built in app. Typically clicking on the Notification will launch the update process.

Searched and read a few articles regarding flashing ROMs, most seem mentioning 'wipe data/factory reset' and 'wipe cache partition'. Does those wipe operation wipe off my apps and data?
Do I need do those wipes if I am upgrading from cm10.2 to cm11? Or only needed when flashing different ROMs?
Yes you need to wipe Dalvik and Cache. If you wipe only those 2, your data is safe.

Seems TWRP v2.6.3.0 doesn't work for cm11? Tried install cm-11-20140210-SNAPSHOT-M3-d2tmo.zip but always failed.
I had to install CWM_6.0.4.3 and then install cm-11-20140210-SNAPSHOT-M3-d2tmo.zip
Try some other Rom before ruling out the recovery.

It might be.
Is there a dedicated thread to discuss/ask question for CM11 for Tmobile GS3? Or just here?
Have noticed following:
the clock app doesn't work, try to run it and immediate stopped
the wifi icon in top right corner used to show blue when it is connected, now it is always white.
Running M3 and ROM itself is great. Noticed a few things:
* clock and camera app didn't work, I download stock clock and camera app and install again, they works but stop working again after reboot.
* using tasker to turn on wifi hotspot via secure settings, received secure settings crashed message. turn on/off wifi hotspot via system setting works fine.
* on 3/26, the phone only has 5% battery usage over night. However last night the phone has 80% of battery around 11pm, but down to 1% at 2:30am and the phone shut down. (I was woke due to the vibration from the phone when it shut down). wasn't sure what's going on. BetterBatteryStats didn't capture stats since the phone powered off and it only has reference "since boot" now.
anyone now has similar issue? and how to solve it?
which one is the most stable CM11 release?
Thanks.
This is not the right place to post questions on the Rom. You will have to do a little search and you will find the right thread.

Reboot loop [SOLVED]

So my sister recently bought a used phone running 4.1.2 and it started rebooting on its own for some reason or another. I am able to get into twrp 2.3.1.1 recovery and do a factory reset but the reboot loop problem still remains. I tried the other options in the wipe menu like wiping the internal storage but it says its unable to mount /data. Even in the Mount Menu i am unable to check the Mount data box.
I've also got the hurricane v4 rom downloaded but i am unable to install it for some reason. Is it because i am unable to mount the /data? Would a Format data work to install the hurricane rom? I've tried to download the 4.3 stock rom but not successful due to such a crappy internet connection. Luckily the hurricane v4 rom that i got from here supported the resume download function.

I also have note 2 with this strange reboot problem.
The OS doesn't matter at all for me (check that also).
If the problem will still remain, then I must say that it's a hardware malfunction.
Mine has it too, and does some random reboots at any time, specially when it has been used for longer time.

Go to mounts and storage and click on format/system, format/cache, format/preload , format/data and format/data and data/media (/sdcard)<--- this will format your internal storage,so back up if you have anything saved on it..NOTE: Do NOT format storage/sdcard1 cause this is your external sd card if you accidentally do format it you will lose all the contents on your sd card.If you still want to format your external sd card by this way make sure you have a card reader handy to be able to transfer the downloaded ROM and other contents on your sd card.
Now go back to main menu and click on advanced menu and wipe dalvik cache ,once again go back to main menu and click on wipe cache partition and go ahead and wipe it.At the very end go back to main menu and click on wipe data/factory reset and choose Clean to install a New ROM.Done.You have successfully performed all the wipes. Now you can go ahead and flash the ROM.

None of the modems worked. I've deleted the /system and /data and all the steps you gave me and restored back to 4.1.2 with twrp and the darnedest thing happened. no reboot loop, only thing is that there still is no service. The GCI screen shows up when booting (my cell phone service) . i was pretty sure the efs was checked when i backed it up a few days ago. I think i dun goofed on this one.
EDIT: Looking at the 4.1.2 backed up rom on my computer, there is a efs.ext4.win.md5 and a efs.ext4.win file on there.

So i finally got a premium link download on rapidgator and am downloading this stock rom atm. so its resumable (hooray!).
When done, i use the "PHONE" option in odin right? Im guessing installing the stock rom also re installs the stock recovery? Crossing my fingers (and toes lol) hoping this download finishes. If her phone doesnt work after all this i talked her into letting me buy it. It seems like a really nice phone. If she lets me buy it im thinking to get the Moga controller afterwards and installing some emulators and games, it'll be a nice little portable system.
SOLVED
Finally got the stock 4.3 download and installed and now the phone is working. Thanks everyone who contributed to help.

[Q] WiFi not working on cm 11?

I'm running cm 10.2.1 that I installed using cwm Recovery. I had to modify the update script using root explorer before the install but after doing that the install went smoothly and I haven't had any real issues with the ROM. I had almost given up trying to update to cm 11 but decided to try the install with philz recovery which actually worked. However, after the update to cm 11 my mobile data no longer works and I am not even able to connect to WiFi. At first I thought that this may have something to do with the APN settings since I am using the boost version of the sprint phone, but the APN settings on my cm 10.2.1 are set for sprint and work fine and they don't change once I install the update. Also, I don't know for sure but I don't even think that the APN being incorrectly set would effect my ability to connect to WiFi. Somebody please give me some advice on this. Thank you.

When you installed CM11, did you do clean install?
PhilZ has a setting where you can do a wipe solely for the purpose of installing a new ROM. (Philz is my one and only recovery.)
You cannot simply flash CM11 over CM10. You need to do a clean install, so you should use a backup utility to backup all your user apps. (You'll also want to download a GAPPs package that is compatible with CM11.)
APN configurations would not affect your WiFi connectivity. DIrty flashing CM11 over CM10 might, it could also be related to a custom kernel. Make sure if you're using a custom kernel, that it is compatible with whatever Android version you're using (e.g. 4.4.4)
Hope this helps.

In the WiFi menu I choose my network and then enter the password and first It tells me "authenticating" which is normal, but then instead of connecting it just says authentication problem. That's all it says. I have tried turning WiFi off then back on, rechecked the password, reboot the phone and everything else I can think of.
This was the same for the 08/13/14 and the 08/14/14 nightly builds for the d2lte which I downloaded from the cm updater in settings>about phone>CyanogenMod updates. I used the app root explorer to extract the zip and then went in to the update script and modified it so that I would not get a status 7 error. Then I zipped the files back up like they were only now with the modified update script, and booted into recovery. I am using philz touch 6.48.4 for the d2lte which I flashed with mobile Odin pro. I chose the clean for new ROM option and then installed the ROM and then flashed the gapps-kk-20140105-signed.zip. then I rebooted the phone and began the set up process. It seems that everything works fine other than that I am unable to connect to WiFi.
I also tried the same process, except after cleaning to install a new ROM I also wiped the dalvik cache. This had no effect.

First and foremost, those nightlies you tested are Android 4.4.4. Here is a 4.4.4 GAPPs package: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23610159112653416
Why are you tweaking the updater script? This should not be necessary. I flash ROMs just fine with PhilZ. Also, you do not need to flash recoveries via ODIN. You can download the .zip (not .md5) file and flash it in recovery. The recovery will flash the recovery over the recovery.
When you reflash the ROM and you have a fresh clean slate on the phone, unplug the router for 30 seconds to power cycle the router, and plug back in. The router may be having an issue with the MAC Address to your network card in your phone.
You can show the password in the WiFi interface to ensure that you are typing the correct password. If you suspect that you are getting the password wrong, you can go into your router's settings and change the password. (e.g. http://192.168.0.1 --> Change the security settings).
Give it another shot. Do not edit the updater script. I've never had a status 7 error. If needed, reflash the recovery as a zip file in recovery.
I hope this helps.

Are you sure your mobile data is, in fact, switching off? There could just be some latency between the WiFi switching off and mobile data coming on.
You might try clean flashing the ROM again, or clean flashing a newer nightly altogether.

CM12.1 WLAN can not be activated

Hi! I flashed the newest nighly and recovery (cm-12.1-20151019-NIGHTLY-amami.zip) and i can not activate WLAN!

It takes me hours and nerves, but i can not find a solution. Anyone an idea?

I've gotten that w/ dirty flashes or mods before. Try full wipe, (system and data), and clean install. Should be OK.

Clean install, what does it mean especially?
I take this steps:
1. Cyanogen Recovery
2. Wipe cache partition
3. Wipe data/factory reset
4. Apply update
5. Chose from SD Card (cm-12.1-20151019-NIGHTLY-amami.zip)
6. Installing
7. Wipe cache partition
8. Reboot system now
9. Language choice
10. Choose WLAN ... WLAN is activated .. the icon ist grey ... nothing!!!
11. Can only choose without (Ohne)
The same thing as everyday^^
First i thougt, the WLAN modul has a malfuntion, but with STOCK ROM 4.3 i can use it!
Special ideas someone? I would try CM12, but the files are down on cyanogenmod.org .. too old :/
Is wifi working on new releases of cm12? The issues list is referred to "cm-12.1-20150504-NIGHTLY"
Try running these commands at a command line shell:
Code:
su
/system/bin/mac-update
...and then reboot.

Use different recovery. If you're booting CM, I guess you have unlocked bl, so you can flash twrp recovery - https://mega.nz/#!E4UQwIoZ!UFpur2wY3tIAU7SdjuEg5fUA6N4BAVwX_TeK_CFpTyo - with fastboot, or with Rashr, then boot to recovery, and choose wipe>advanced, and check system, data, cache, and dalvik. Then flash your ROM.
Starting from nightly October 20, wifi is now fixed on rhine platform. No manual mac-update needed

nope, I actually found a fix for the same issue, root your phone then delete /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf then flash your rom again (not sure if you need to clean data and cache) with odin and it should work.

unfortunately, this does not work, wi-fi can only be enabled if i use the one from my rom
I was have same issue.
How did I fix it? (I have 9190)
I flashed 9195's stock rom via odin. Of course odin gave me error. I removed the battery and placed it again. Flashed latest 9190's stock rom and wifi issue solved.
i flashed a rom that fits for i9195, that is not my problem. i have no wi-fi after i update my modem. version number is correct but wi-fi can not be enabled, even if i flash it twice. my rom is the sc-stock rom

The ROM controls the wifi, not the modem. Strange that multiple ROMs can't even be enabled, I suspect data is left somewhere, do full wipe to install a new ROM so all old data etc is wiped and make sure you are not installing app data etc from a backup for this.
Else it might be the kernel.........

wi-fi is working with the baseband which is included in the rom (until i flash another baseband, then it stops)
