Hello,
I just got a refurb N7 in the mail and upon arrival it was dead, no battery which I found odd. Plugged it in and the charging symbol appeared on the screen. After powering up and connected to the original charger it would still say Connectt to Charger and always has a red exclamation, not the charging symbol and no progress. This went on for most of the night and I couldn't install the 4.4.2 update due to low battery. Multiple restarts and hard reset and same thing. Hours later after I unplugged it again the battery all of a sudden showed full, I applied the update and plugged it back in. Still, say Connect to Charger but now it shows the charging symbol but the animation showing it charging isn't there and the battery looks empty. Unplug, shows full battery.
I am pretty sure I am going to return it but thought I would hit the forums to see if anyone had any ideas?
Dont mess with it, return it

Have just received new Galaxy Nexus and plugged it into the charger. The screen showed a battery icon with a lightning bolt for a few seconds, then it changed to a battery icon filling up for 5 seconds, then it disappeared. If I unplug and plug it back in the same thing happens. I've left it for over 2 hours now and there's nothing on the screen still, and no LED's lit up anywhere. Is it charging?
I don't want to turn it on in case this will affect the first charge. Can anyone tell me if it is actually charging?
(Yes this is a question, but where is the Q&A forum for Galaxy Nexus?)
Update: Now if I unplug and plug back in I see what looks like a full battery icon, but it disappears after a few seconds...

Yeah it's charging. If you tap the power button briefly, an animated battery icon will show it charging on the screen.
I too find it very odd that the notification LED doesn't give any visual feedback of whether it's charging or not. In fact, I noticed this morning that the LED doesn't seem to work at all when it's on charge - you have to turn on the screen to see if you have any messages.
Phew! Thanks for that, I pressed the power button and yes the icon is displayed, looking full. But I think I will leave it for a while longer until I turn it on for the first time...
The LED at the bottom is only for notifications, not for battery status. The Nexus One had 2 LEDs, one in the screen and one in the trackball. Only the small screen one lit up for batter charging/charged/low. This is because that small LED was hard wired to the motherboard, so it displayed even when the device was off and charging.

Got mine delivered today.
It's not charging at all.
Battery icon changes to show it's charging, but clicking on the battery settings says it's discharging, in fact in ran out of juice while i had it plugged in !!!
I know it's not the charger or the battery as these have been tested on another galaxy nexus without issue.
Anyone any thoughts, I'm assuming it's a phone hardware problem, not a software problem.
Thanks.

The same with my device .
Now battery is fully discharged and turns only for 2 sec with connected charger.
Charger itself is ok (charges another i9000).
Tried to connect PC USB - was synchronized perfectly while battery was ok but not charged.
How did you solve a problem??
I too seemingly have got this problem on the phone I got today...
EDIT
contacted Amazon, claimed they had heard of the problem and replaced it same day, it's gone back for inspection.
I exchanged my phone due to screen issues. Now i have my new phone, screen is good but it wont charge. I used both Verizon's car charger and home charger provided by Samsung (original that came with the box). When i plug in it will say "not charging" and when unplugged it says "discharging". When plugged it i do have the battery with thunderbolt symbol. I tried turning off the phone and removing battery and re-inserting it and plugged in again, same issue.
Hi there,
I stored my phone for little longer than a month, when i decided to charge it and use it, it didn't charge (plugged to charger for one hour but no orange LED).
while searching with google someone was having same problem, he solved his by plugging the charger first then inserting the battery.
when i plug the charger without the battery in, the phone blinks orange and green,
if i plug the battery when its blinking, it starts charging (orange LED), left it that way till its green (took couple of hours).... but the bad news is, it still doesn't turn ON.
Any idea whats the problem is??
Possibly your phone think the battery is still empty after loading at charger.
Try to boot into recovery, when the charger is plugged in, load until the led is green, and then wipe battery stats. I think it's worth a try.

Could be your battery is dead if you stored the phone for over a month without first charging it. Do you know anyone with the same working battery? Might be worth asking to borrow it and see if works with your phone.

I had this same problem with my Nokia C1-01. I left it to charge overnight, in the morning I pulled out the charger and put it back in again and it started charging.
Maybe this will help you!
Hey guys, I recently had a problem with my screen turning on and off on it's own but finally it stopped. But now I'm having even worse problems.
Basically what is happening is that my phone won't charge. Last night it was at 60% and I put it in the charger. I woke up in the middle of the night and I checked my phone and it was fully charged, so I went back to bed. When I woke up in the morning to take my phone it was only at 49%, so I plugged it back in and it charged to 54% before I had to go. I barely used to phone all day to conserve on power since I didn't really have much left. So, it's at 40% battery when I get back home and I plug it into to charge. I left it for an hour or two and went to go check on it. It didn't charge at all. In fact all the stats were saying that it was discharging. So I unplugged it from the back side (where the charger is in the wall) and the lightning bolt was still in the top corner. I freaked out and unplugged it from the usb port and it stopped, when I plugged it back into the usb (without power from the power outlet) it showed that it was still charging which was really weird. I tried everything such as taking out the battery and putting back in. I even tried to use a different usb cable to charge it with no success. But still everything says it's discharging.
I have no idea what to do? Could this a sign that the battery is failing, should I buy a new one? Does anybody have any idea of what might be happening? I've been looking everywhere but I haven't found any solutions
It's probably input voltage dropping caused by USB cable. Try another cable and see.
Well the problem stopped for a few days but now it back again, I plug it in to charge and it just doesn't charge, it recognizes that it's plugged in but it just won't charge.
I'm now attempting to charge it with a different cable again to see if it works. If it doesn't could this be a sign of a battery issue? Because if it is I can buy one tomorrow.
I'm starting to think it might be the charging point, hypothetically if I were to send it to Samsung for repairs, how much would they charge for replacing the charging port. Or would it easier to replace it myself if I were to buy one off ebay? How difficult is it to replace the charging port?
Last night I arrived home and plugged in my M9 with around 9% of battery. After a couple of minutes I notticed that it not only wasnt charging but also the battery level was even lower tan before. I had experienced something like this before, when charging the phone and using any resource intensive App at the same time, the phone displayed a message saying something like "the device is using more current that what is being provided by the charger so the phone is not charging". At the time I assumed that was normal, now Im not sure. So my phone wasnt charging at all and the battery drop down to zero. When I unplugged the phone to see if it was wrongly connected or something like that it turned off, obviusly. I plugged it in again and the battery symbol appeared but it didnt go above 0%. This happened for about an hour, then it did not even show the battery symbol but the orange led still blinked (I googled and found out this means battery is too low to turn on). After twenty more minutes, the blinking led was gone too. I left the phone plugged in overnight but nothing changed. I tried using another charger and the phone suddenly turned on with 9% battery. I used the phone for five minutes or so to check if everything was fine, the battery went down to 4% and now again it is not charging independently of which charger I am using (i have the one that came with my M9 and one that came with a Sony Z3).
Any ideas of how to fix this?

I had a similar issue last week when I was charging with any charger that was not 1.0 or 2.0 Qualcomm rated. The app that was causing it for me the the Taco Bell all believe it or not... that was the only app I had install before noticing the problem. After uninstalling the app and charging the phone with a 2.0 charger, did not have the issue again.
HTC M9 not charging when turned on possible fix
Hello,
I managed to get my HTC M9 to charge again.
Issue: HTC M9 not charging when turned ON, but ok when turned OFF and back ON while being connected to power source.
Workaround: Go to settings/ developer options/ select USB configuration and then change settings several times and finally select 'charge this device'.
I did not test USB connection to PC but it should work when selecting media transfer protocol MTP.
Note: OS is Android 7.0 Official release
Hi guys, today I faced the following problem.
The battery was completely drained (0%) and the device was off. I connected it to the original charger with the original cable. The screen turned on but the battery icon showed a red disc in his centre with a white exclamation mark inside of it and the battery didn't charge.
I charged the phone at work with another non-original charging he. It worked and now, if I try to use the original charger again, it works and charges fast.
What could it mean?
