Note 2 to Note 3 - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

now commonly when when you do a replacement through asurion and the model of your phone is no longer being made generally you would be granted the next best thing in line IE the note 3 ..my question is ...how long will that be ?

Not anytime soon the note 2 still selling pretty high on contract it's still 149.99 . I guess when it drops to 99.99 which probably will happen when the new s5 arrive, but then again Samsung make so many phones it could get discontinued soon.

thanks for the reply dude really appreciate it..

Most of the time the phones that you get from Asurion are refurbished ones anyway. So even when Samsung discontinues production, there will be a steady supply of refurbished Note 2s.

this probably fits here folks http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2411748

How much "buy-back" money for the S2? Maybe buy-back money will offset some of the contract buy-out fee and then its worth getting. I love my E4GT but I could get much better pics of my kids with the S3.

I'm kinda on the fence about it.
I played with a customer's that brought one in from pre-order the other day. While the new Nature UX looks amazing and the device is smooth as butter, the size is a deal breaker for me. It's too large for my hands (twss). I almost fumbled and dropped it. :x
I'll probably stick with my Epic Touch for now and wait for ICS kernel sources so that I can get amazeballs battery life on AOKP. I'm rather enjoying this ROM.

I haven't compared the actual pics and videos but essentially the s3 has the same camera as the s2, just faster and with more options. People should really take the time to read the posts in the s3 section. Many people are reporting issues that shouldn't be happening with a new phone. Many are discovering that it really is just a s2.5. It's also experiencing lots of LOS (loss of service). If you REALLY want one, it would be wise to wait until the problems get ironed out in a real update. I'm not talking about the little security update that's going to get pushed to the sprint version on sunday.

From someone who has one, it's well worth it. It's nowhere near "basically the same".
sprint is releasing an LTE version arent they? I dont think LTE will be available until 2013 in my area. I cant see knowingly upgrading to lose 4g until the phone could be almost a year old.

Maybe well worth it if you are not coming from an s2. Upgrading to the s3 means you can't upgrade to a next gen phone. Next gen phones come out in q4 for Christmas season. It's like having an iPhone 4 and upgrading to a 4s sure it's nicer and more refined, but upgrades for most aren't yearly anymore and most would just wait for a true upgrade rather than some polishing.

Note2 just around the corner
Forget about the Note, the Note2 is coming out at the end of Augest or early Sept. Why in the hell Tmobile is even bothering with this is beyond me. My guess would be that their so far down the dev cycle with their crap "tmobile apps" that they are just going to move forward and not listen to anyone. There was a poll out a few weeks ago that asked the question
Why do you root your phone
1) To install Custom Roms
2) To remove carrier bloatware
3) both
The results were something like 83% I think for number 2. This shows in the ratings for all of the Tmobile forced bloatware apps in the
play store. With comments like how do I remove this, I don't want this on my phone and I don't even use this why are you making me update it.
etc.
If Tmobile would LISTEN and not install bloatware and make those apps up to the user with links to them in the play store they would have less
bricked phones and warranty issues. Less customer churn and more than anything else they would be able to deploy new phones alot faster.
Its a shame to cause they say they listen to their users but its apparent thats not the case.
They screwed us on the S3 with the dual core deal. From what I heard they were offered the Korean S3 but passed since it was more money and its deployment cycle date was later than the dual core so they felt they would have missed the boat. They also charge more and made it hell of confusing for those wanting to buy it. Like its 329 plus rebate and then $20 payment a month for x months. I mean who comes up with that crap!!! Now their bringing an almost year old phone to market "as new". It really makes zero since. I mean how are people going to feel when they sign a contract for 2 years only to hear the NEW Note2 is coming out weeks later. Samsung will be doing their big promo's and such for the Note2 and you will be holding your what you thought was a new phone in you hand going wtf I just bought this!!! I think its going to cause a fare amount of confusion and could cause some backlash. No one wants to feel taken "Taken" but this is going to cause at least some ill will. The only saving grace is the Note2 will take a month or two to get here state side but still. Every chance Tmobile has had to really stand out from the rest and offer really great phones that are better than what is out there yet they keep dropping the ball. Makes me seriously want to take the new CEO position and really turn the company around cause it doesn't look like anyone with vision is driving the bus.

This is a paradox that will always be there. In November when you get your Nexus, you will want to hold off until April for the S3-Plus or whatever is on the verge of coming out then.
I agree...however if this was a question for a gs2 user I would tell them neither! The s2 rooted with the right rom and kernel is as good if not better than anything out right now. In my opinion, if you're even reading any of these forums and interested in flashing roms and personalization you should move to a nexus device. They get all the newest and coolest stuff first cause that's what Google uses to develop on. So SAVE YOUR MONEY until another bad ass nexus is on the market. It will probably be expensive so everyone do yourself a favor and start saving!

Still rocking my S2, and waiting till my upgrade in December. We'll see what's out then. Nothing worth leaving my S2 for, and Nexus isn't worth leaving T-Mobile for, so. Honestly, I would get the Note, but only because I love big screens, and I work from my phone and my tablet all day.
problem is the note is just a bigger version of your S2 not the note2. It's last year's model from att with a stamp that says T-Mobile and their new "app pack" which is nothing more than you can download for free from the playstore. It's getting upgraded to ICE but I would bet that's as far as it goes due to hardware.

about to buy a s3

I'm ready to buy a s3 for tmobile. I have a few questions:
- Any advice before buying one?
- Should I take any safety precaution before buying on the street? [I heard of people buy phones from people that cancel their plan on the carrier right after]
- Should I just save up and buy the beefed up model the i9305? [I dont really use the phone for internet that much, but I like games and apps]

I love this phone, above all other android phones which is alot.
If at all possible buy from t-mobile. In the street if you are lucky you will get one for $350 to $400. If you have an upgrade available then you will paying about that much, unless you go thru customer loyalty or retention department(really depends if you been with them 2 or more yrs for best deals, so I have read).
I have not had any stuters while playing a couple games , darkknight rises, robo defense, spades and a few others
If you are able to play with phone before buying. Press *#0*# and it will show you Lcdtest page. Which will let you test all hardware function of phone .

alright cool, i'll try it out when i get the chance
Id advise against buying "off the street". Too many have gotten screwed doing that.
But many have got great deals that way too, so its your call.
I wouldn't get the international version. You won't get as great of speed as the T999. Maybe 3g if your areas been refarmed.
LTE is too far off still to make that a buying point imo. By the time your area gets it you'll be ready to get a better phone. GS5 maybe!?
That's a great point btw about doing the hardware testing before buying off the street!
Ill add that if you can, go with the seller to a tmobile store to check the imei isn't blacklisted and get the seller to have them print something showing the phone has been 100% paid off.

Well I can get it but I'm gonna need to sale my s2. I think I'll get more if I sale it rooted already then I would unrooted that way I wouldn't be paying so much for the phone.

Cheapest way to upgrade before being eligible for upgrade?

Hi, just wondering if there are any loopholes that have worked for anyone in the past.
I'm really interested in either the Nexus 4 or Note 2. I love the S2 but I dont have an upgrade until Jan 2014 and these new phones are just so intriguing. I definitely don't want to pay a non contract price for these phones, but was hoping to sell my S2 and use it to buy a new phone at hopefully a good price.
Any advice?
not sure of any loop holes. most companys make sure there are none.
i say sell the s2 and get the n4. with the price being so low its worth it.
I looked up on the sprint buyback program and they'll give you $85 for the e4gt.
Well I have three phones mine wife and daughter wife never likes upgrading so I get her upgrades with mine not cheap but it works

That's at the moment. Look at the Gnex. It was released GSM first then Verizon got it, and then Sprint. I don't think Google is that dumb to cut Verizon from getting the Nexus and Sprint has gotten the other Nexus devices aside from the Nexus One.

I love the hardware of my epic touch but I know we can do better in regards of software. Jb leak is proof of that and what is likely to come. However I am getting tired of running gb. Having a nexus 7 tablet doesn't help my case when i get constant updates as soon as good drops new source. I am hoping I can hold out for the jb update or even a newer leak. But if not I would love to find a way to get a sg3 for cheap. And I don't really want to add another line.

I used to always buy my phones out of contract, I would ebay my phone, get paid apply that $ towards my new phone and ship the old one out. I would usually ship the next day so I wasn't holding up my buyer.
These days I just buy from Craigslist. Picked this phone up for 240 around mid summer, I think.

I agree with this, I bought my sgs2 in June for $220 off contract (used). It came in great shape and working perfectly. I'm thinking I'll keep buying phones this way - just wait for them to be ~9 months old and you can get them for the upgrade price. This way if a new phone drops that I just have to have I'm always ready with the upgrade. Also if I somehow kill my current phone I don't have to worry about carrying insurance, just use my upgrade on whatever's out.
The only thing better is direct from Google pricing, which I may switch to but I will loose some coverage in my state by leaving CDMA so I haven't decided on that yet.

Yeah, just sell the SG III on ebay for like $350 or $400 and then your getting the Note for the upgrade price.
