OK so im using an ATT Galaxy s3 (i-747) on T-Mobile's network, and as of late i havent been able to create a new APN. i was wondering if there was anyway to fix this.
and i have a question about my firmware update. Why cant i update my firmware via Wi-Fi, mobile network, or Kies?

I bought I-317 note 2 from AT&T last year. AT&T unlocked my phone and now I am using it with T-mobile.
My question is, will I still receive OTA update from AT&T if I am not on their network? Or do I need to be on AT&T's network to receive the update?
I can successfully go to Settings > About Device > Check Software Update, it checks for the update and tells me there is no update at this time. I know my phone is at latest version at this time. But will I get OTA update in future when its released as long as I am connected to the internet?
PS: I politely ask you to not give me suggestion/advice to flash another custom ROM. My question is for the stock OTA updates only
You need at&t servers to update therefore you need to be on an at&t network and have the device registered to your at&t account to get ota updates fron at&t

When I click on the "check for updates", it still seems to be connecting to AT&T servers via wifi, even though I am on T-mobile network.
what makes you think its connecting to an ATT server?
Hi all. I am new to all this and the more I read the more confused I become! I bought a T-Mobile T999 with a bad IMEI. I unlocked it and am using it with my Mobilicity SIM card.Everything is working fine except for the wifi hotspot. Also the T-Mobile bloatware is getting in the way. Iwas on my way to rooting the phone when i thought to myself... would it be possible to flash the Mobilicity stock firmware from the SamMobile sight onto the phone. If this doesn't work would I be able to flash the stock TMobile firmware back to the phone? So on the T999 can I flash the Mobilicity T999VVLDMF2_T999VYVLDMF2_MCT firmware from SamMobile
Thanks to any and all who might help.
No to all.

Cant seem to get a concrete answer anywhere. I Sim unlocked my tmobile note 3 and I'm currently running it on the ATT network. Will I get OTA updates from Tmobile still or just nothing at all?

If you're running a completely stock rom (no root or recovery) you will get updates still.

If you are rooted, your phone will attempt to download OTA updates but most likely they wont install and you will lose root. This happens on the S3 and S4... so N3 shoulnt be any different.

If your phone is NOT rooted and if you have the stock firmware in the phone then:
You will only get updates for AT&T if you have an AT&T activated sim card in the phone.
Without a activated Tmobile sim card in the phonoe you will never get tmobile updates.
Good luck!
Thats what I figured, if it is Tmobile, you will get the ATT update, and that might be an issue. I am watching the forums for any post of an OTA, then will swap cards back.
There is no way that tmo phone will accept att ota even with active att sim on it. Ota checks phone model and att ota wont show at all on tmobile phone. You can always download latest update from samsung website

So is the simple solution just to use Samsung Kies? I bought a 2nd hand Galaxy S5 and it had been on O2 but unlocked. I'm now using it on EE (I'm in the UK). Will Kies let me do an in place upgrade without having to wipe?
so would my unlocked Verizon Google Pixel phone get the Android 9.0 PIE update when i'm using a MetroPCS sim ?
Hello,
Yesterday I updated my unlocked bell i747m S3 to 4.3.
I used it on rogers before with no issues regarding LTE connectivity.
However I did a factory reset on the phone before the upgrade, and after the upgrade I cannot find the LTE/HSPA setting instead I see LTE/WCDMA/GSM settings.
This phone was never rooted and I just updated through Samsung keys. Does anyone know a fix to this problem?
Thank You in advance,
Stas
Have you rang your carrier? This could be an issue with your APN settings.
I am using unlocked SM-N910A On T-Mobile network. I am trying to enable video calling on Phone app. I checked setting under Phone app but did not find anything.
I also noticed that when I go to Settings -> More Settings - I see first 'Network or Sim card error' popup with ok button and after that other options (i.e caller id, call forwarding, auto redial etc) are loaded on screen.
Any input will be great if this can be done or limitation.
APN is fast.t-mobile.com
Settings -> Connections- > Mobile networks - > Mobile Data -> "Enhanced 4G LTE services" is checked.

I'm on ATT using the same phone, and I don't think ATT supports video calling on their phones. I don't know for certain, but my last 4 phones were all ATT and none of them had native video calling. I always had to use apps like Tango. I could just be in the same boat as you and just don't know how to activate the feature or something.

To: spexwood,
Thank you for reply.
I also noticed there is no wifi calling option. there is also "sim card or Network error" while setting forward calling.
Based on following links,it seems it is a limitation

5.1.1 is the latest version, but the only way to OTA is to use an ATT sim card. You can Odin the files though.
I recommend updating just because 5.1.1 is much stabler, but I don't think it'll help you. I'm on 5.1.1 and as I said, I can't find any way to use video calling.

I can't answer any of the last 3 questions, but can the first few.
OTA (Over The Air update) is not possible without having an ATT sim and being connected to the ATT network.
With a different sim, the phone will ALWAYS say that no update is available and that your phone is up to date when it isn't.
Kies will act similar as to not having an ATT sim. ATT doesn't upload their updates to Kies.
The only way for you to update would be:
1) borrow someone's ATT sim card and use it to connect to the ATT network
2) go to a Best Buy with a Samsung Experience area and ask them to update your phone. They'll do it for FREE and it doesn't matter where you got your phone. You do need to tell them that you're using the ATT phone on a different network. This will male sure they flash the correct firmware and not brick your phone.
3) Use the latest Odin file to update your phone yourself. This is basically what they'll do at Best Buy, except that you'll be solely responsible for the outcomes of your phone. The Odin files are posted in the ATT Note 4 General thread. Just do a search for Odin.
