Kernel Development - 4.3 - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

Which Kernels are compatible with stock 4.3?

None so far. I don't even think anyone is really working on one =\.

Dang, wish I knew what I was doing! Really liked all the kernels on the previous version.

Haven't seen any information on a developer working on a TW 4.3 kernel either. Most of the devs are probably working on the Note 3 Dev. I wish I had the time and knowledge to dedicate to it.

[PROJECT]Collaborative Sense Port

Hi
I've created this thread here in general to try an effort to a collaborative port of (any) sense rom to galaxy nexus, lets to the point:
I was trying a different rom instead of the stock. Why? Because a custom rom with sense provide lots of things that stock doesn't have (init.d for example). In my case, I was using Insert Coin for One X, because in the past I had some success with other devices.. well. I didn't had the same success with galaxy nexus.
Of course any rom can be used, we need success in this port disregard the rom used.
Obs.: For people unable to help and able to troll, this isn't a thread for trolling/blaming/"giving the unrequired opinion about it" or "why not buying a HTC phone instead", please, you can create your own thread for that or just use your facebook.
Thanks
I think there was already a thread about a wip port of sense and touchwiz that booted but some major stuff wasn't working.

I have one question about porting sense, what ROM is the best to use as base, cm10 or aosp?
I did some porting on my Droid 3 so I want to try on gnex also.
Thanks

Yeah but as I can see, they're focus in specific versions, and I don't care about versions since it works. And I want a specific focus in join efforts to port sense.

It's relative. AOSP will be more easily imo, but in other hand, cm10 can be adapted, since there's cm10 for tegra (so we can adapt the source code, if someone wants to give a try). I was trying with cm10 4.1.1 btw (cause the InsertCoin is 4.1.1).
My Octo-oraculus says that there are few other threads like this and NONE of them will end up with something actually usable.

Btw, I was thinking about trying backport the sense for Nexus S (since there's one port that was almost successful), the only problem is... the best port for NS is Gingerbread-based and I dont know how much effort will be needed to adapt a 4.x kernel with a 2.3 rom.

[Daydreaming] S4 Google Edition port for N2

I know a lot more will be known once the S4 Google Edition is in dev's hands but I was just casually wondering how it would impact the Note 2 development of a stock rom. I don't know the chances of the S4GE using the Exynos 5 chipset but if so hopefully it would help the devs out even more.
As someone who used the CM10.1 nightlies for a while and now switched to CleanRom, I'm just sort of daydreaming what having a Note II Nexus would be like...
Here's your answer

Dual boot/Multi-boot stock-ish AND AOSP for N3?

For the Note 2, there is this kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2239453
It allows you to dual-boot a Samsung and AOSP-based ROM. How cool is that?
For the locked AT&T Note 3, there is this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2572978
It allows you to keep the locked factory ROM in place, while creating additional ROM "slots" to boot into an alternate ROM.
I, for one, would love the abilty to run a stock Samsung ROM and be able to dual-boot an AOSP based ROM on my Note 3.
Based on the above, it seems to be possible. I am no dev, but I am hoping to entice someone to take this on to make it a reality.
Perhaps a dev fund of some sort? I'll toss in $20. Anyone else interested in this feature?
Happy New Year, BTW...
Ah the infamous devil kernel, yea that's a dope feature and I'm sure in due time devs will cook up a kernel that allows this. CM for our devices is a newborn at this point and needs plenty of nightlies to iron out all the bugs before this can happen.

Yes also for the galaxy s4 there was 2 multiboot situations hopefully one can get ported

We are just getting alphas of aosp . Its way too early to ask this question. but I understand why you ask.

Galaxy S3 - Kitkat Discussion Thread

KitKat has been confirmed for the Galaxy S3 as I had suspected. Use this to discuss Kitkat, and post any relevant information to the release.

So I read a report. May not be real but I don't see what lends it to being fake. The AT&T Galaxy S3 may be updated to Kitkat.. Which means us here at d2tmo should also get it if this holds true.
You decide. Also post anything you find relating to Kitkat on the S3 officially. Thanks!

Samsung has confirmed that the S3 will get kitkat. Now its just a matter of waiting for the update to be finished, sent to T-Mobile to be approved, and then pushed out.
So apparently I cant post links yet but if you go to the android and me website, they have an article with a link to the press statement made by Samsung.
Based on the devices on the list, we will probably have to wait a while, at least a month or two is my guess, just considering how new each device is.
Sidenote: if you have a Nexus 5, why do you care about the S3???
Not a rumor, its been confirmed that all U.S S3 variants will be 4.4.2 It makes a lot of sense for samsung to still update firmware on the still pretty popular and 2 year old device like ours. The only thing that could knock my S3 off its pedestal could be the S5, so I'm waiting for Feb 24th to come and see if it seduces me enough to jump on it
They started rolling out kit kat yssterday. I dontvknow how long for the s3 to get it. But its about time we get it.
Updated to reflect the current release information!
What's the over/under on the likelihood that Knox has undergone a major revamp to try and make it harder to crack in the next release?
I really like my SGS3, but after all of the crap Samsung has pulled against the modding community, I think this will be my last Samsung device.

I appreciate that show of support against samsung. I approve of this message.
I'm just curious why anybody cares about touch wiz kitkat? I've used a few different kitkat roms now including cm11 and they all work pretty well. A few have some quirks but overall they've been easily reliable enough to use everyday. Other than wifi calling what else do you like about TW versus anything else?

I agree with your sentiment. WIFI calling is the only reason I use TW and now, with multiboot, I can have a TW ROM as a secondary ROM and run CM11/AOKP KK as my daily driver.
I'm sure there's a lot of other folks who prefer TW to AOSP - different strokes for different folks.
I've never really liked TW but I'm curious to see how they integrate TW S voice with kit kat Google now.
Sent from my Liquid t999l
Its not that TW is bad by all means...rather its KNOX and the excessive bloat it comes with. There are much worse things than Touchwiz trust me.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Since I posted my other response I've ended up going back to TW 4.3. I didn't know this until I tried it but aosp doesn't have tv out like TW does, at least not using the hd I cable I already have. I miss some of the aosp features but I really don't notice any difference between kitkat and jellybean.
kitkat is officially rolling out for the S4. So its the Note 3 and S4 already with updates. Could the S3 be next or would they go for the Note 2 first and leave us last?

But when will kitkat finally be available for the s3?
I would say a couple months the most
Now is when the s4 is getting kit Kat wow. It's all about market strategy. We probably will get it at the earliest by June. Samsung probably doesn't want a 2 year old device running the same thing too close to when the s5 releases.

Shouldn't be to long considering sprint already released 3 build versions on there device manifest. The sprint galaxy s3 kitkat build is now at NC4 which means it should release this month or the next and t mobile shouldn't be far behind.

EDIT

Why no love for Note 10.1(2014) edition

Hello dear developers,
Why you guys not showing much love about note 10.1 (2014 edition).?
I don't see any super duper ROMs after one and only @sbreen94 's Hyperdrive RLS5.1. There are couple of CM based good ROMs like Teamsek's unofficial builds and @RaymanFX 's roms, but we loosing lot of TW note functionality. Ofcource I know other alternatives by using other apps for S-pen and action memo.
I'm still using note 3, I never thought I'll love to use TW based roms until I found awesome ROMs developed by @darkera13, @sbreen94 's Hyperdrive and @kmokhtar79 's AryaMod and @arter97 's Kernel etc.
I'm really hoping that somebody will come up with good TW based lollipop roms soon. I'm sure many of us ready to donate for our beloved note 10.1 2014 edition (SM-P600).
It's 22 months old. It's received all the love it's likely to get.

Yes. tried couple of months ago. It's still AOSP based rom and also lot of FCs and random bootups, So I ended-up using Teamsek.
Note 12.2 (SM-P900) holds exactly same hardware of P600 except screen size. There are couple of good TW based roms out there for it. That would be great If someone able tweak those ROMs to port to our SM-P600

Yeah well it's changed a lot in the past few months. I recommend trying it again. I was on the temasek builds for awhile, but there's too many ui crashes and chrome lags on it and there's a lot of lockscreen glitches. Broken doesn't have those issues. The only random reboots that I have encountered were when I tried to use it right after it boots.
