I've looked around the forum a bit i can't seem to find a way to get a custom recovery working on my 8160L, hence i can't flash a custom rom. Any help would be appreciated!
Sorry, i'm currently on 4.1.2 stock jelly bean, i've managed to root it too. But can't seem to get a custom recovery. I tried using rom manager to install CWM , but doesnt seem to work.
NEVER use rom manager. Use shaaan's cwm 6

Hi guys. Gmaster here. First of all im using a rooted rom (not stock) and i want to replace it with a custom one. Im want to use mobile odin but im wondering if something might go wrong like root being removed during a process that requires root. I would use odin on my computer but my antivirus is...you get the point. But do i want a stock rooted one or will my other rom do it. Please tell me if it can do it or not (even if there is a soft/fixable bricking possiblility) if its hard brick possibility then i do want to know. Any answer that helps will get thanks off me.

As what you said, you are using "not stock" rom, so I assumed you did install a custom ROM in the past and it was successful. But why don't you follow the same way you did?
Alternatively, you can use adbshell to install CWM and then flash a custom ROM or zip through it.
There is Stock ROM and there is Costume ROM - bothe can be rooted or not (Coustume one almost always are).
Stock means: the original ROM from the manufactre (Samsung, HTC etc...).
you can learn more on how to back up your apps (titanium) and current ROM (CWM Recovery), and flashing a new rom from the forum threads.
I know guys but if i install a non root rom then wont cwm stop working?

My experience flashing non root stock room with cwm, the non root stock room became rooted stock rom by itself

Just the answer i need. Tnx. Just to make sure: my new custom rom will not effect cmw nor loose root access to finish it.

Hi, I have a unbranded, unlocked Arc S, running ICS, and I want to flash the 4.04 image, which comes as a CWM zip.
Everything is currently stock but rooted.
The 4.04 update is a ZIP (rather than a FTF), so I think I need CWM installed to flash the update. I can't find anything that tells me how.
I found a easy installer, but it categorically says don't use it with ICS.
HELP!!!
CWM Auto-Installer
Try CWM auto-installer, you can find it in Play Store and it worked to me.
Look in the dev section for the stock ics kernel with cwm is the simplest way.

Use fastboot to boot either a custom kernel like ArcNight or DoomKernel, or cobratos modded stock. They contain cwm, on boot repeatedly press any of the h/w keys to enter cwm and flash the zip on the sdcard.

I only ever found the old beta kernel for ICS, not the final one. Got a link?
I tried the auto CWM installer, and yes it did install onto stock ICS, and I managed to install the 4.04 ZIP, but now it just hangs on the Sony startup screen.
Any advice on how to get back to something that works?
Sorry I haven't looked at that Rom as it's a dev Rom thats been ported, before installing that Rom did you make a cwm backup? Otherwise you install another Rom.

Before flashing a ics rom in zip format you need to flash a complete ics (ftf file) via flashtool /pc companion /seus.
I have rooted my gs3 and need help. I am on stock rooted 4.0.4 ics. I want to go to the latest pacman rom. What do I need to do?
Have you installed a recovery?
Download GooManager if you want TWRP or ROM Manager if you want CWM recovery.
Either one will allow you to flash a compatible ROM.
I really like TWRP. User interface is easy. Goo.im app makes it easy to find compatible ROMS to flash for your device. I don't know if PACMAN is on goo, tho.

If you are on stock ics you'll most likely need to update your bootloader after you update your recovery if it isn't updated already.
You'll need to go here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2321310
This will need to be done before you flash almost any rom that's been updated in the last couple weeks.
You might be up to date but I doubt it.

Definitely go with TWRP. The user interface is much friendlier than CWM. It is also really good from the standpoint of being careful when wiping or installing things with their "slide to ____" feature.
I have a noob question (and i`m new here with the ace 2...):
I search some threads but i dont find a clearly answer.
I want to install a custom rom.
I have jb stock.
It is nessesary to root the phone first and than install the rom or is the root option in some custom roms includet that means i dont install root as a single part?
That means i go into the stock recovery install cwm and after that i install simply the custom rom....right?
Witch roms has the root includet?
Thanks for HELPING!!
Yes, custom roms are rooted

1. You dont have to root your phone first when you want to install custom rom...
2. Every custom rom, like CM or PAC is rooted so you don't have to root as a single part.
3. If you want to install custom rom, just put in your sd card and flash with cwm recovery
Press thanks if I helped you

Besides rooting you also need to odin flash twrp
recovery before you can flash any custom roms.
Here is the direct download link to the Odin flash TWRP custom recovery:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/45687485/openrecovery-twrp-2.7.2.0-hltetmo-4.4.img.tar
After you have twrp recovery will be able to successfully flash custom roms
using TWRP custom recovery.
Good luck.
Thank you so much.
