Noticed a very weird bug with all the various stock rooted touchwiz 4.3 with mj4 and mjc radios. No fancy tweaks. Let see if anyone else got this.
Sometime, when initiating calls, it go instantly to the orange call ended/failed screen.
Often time takes a reboot or airplane mode to fix. When it happens, it takes a very long time to enter airplane mode (3-5 min).
Me too! I'm having the same issue...

It only works on cm and aosp 4.3 roms...
My wife's s3 is getting this ad well. Running the leak rom with uvjmc modem. Oddly enough, I have gotten it a couple times today on my GN2 with the current 4.3 modem as well. Sporadic. When I go the wifi calling, no problem. Very strange.
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement

At this time last night (even less than 12 hours ago), my phone was all fine and dandy, and reception was where it supposed to be. Now I can't get any form of Data, and no SMS messages are going through. I bought this phone at the end of August and I am currently using the AOKP Jellybean Milestone 1 (problem persists on stock ROM). I've tried pretty much everything I can find, short of bringing in the phone to a Rogers outlet... I'm pretty much at the end of my wits here. Help?
EDIT: As of right now I'm running some Emergency bull**** on Kies.
EDIT2: which failed.
EDIT3: I should probably note that I'm using Rogers.

Didn't work.
I'm also having issues with data drop! The network signal will be full and sometime when I wake the phone , there's no data connection.. Also happens when I answer the phone ...network mode is set to LTE/GSM/WCDMA running AOKP MILESTONE 1 JB... also I updated to the latest baseband and still having issues... It doesn't happen all the time but its happening enough to bug me! Any help is appreciated!
And forgot to mention when I reboot the phone I get the "restricted access change" and the clock resets to a different time... I have to go to settings and click on the automatic thingy for the time... And then it resets
At first I thought it was the ROM, but I flashed 4 different roms and still the same problem. Every time someone calls me it drops my signal, all my bars go away and whoever called me cannot hear me. Idk how to fix this :/

4.4 seems to require at least the 4.3 modem baseband, you need to flash it via Odin. Be careful on the version, note the one already installed and chek which one is the normal upgrade. My m919v only worked with it's specific modem.
There's a few topic about this. Can't post link but look for this one: [ONLY FOR MDL BOOTLOADER] How to use 4.3 MK2 Modem and Retain Sound
Okay so I just returned to stock because I couldn't fix the problem .. so now i'm running android 4.2 and my wifi wont connect. Keeps giving me this when I try to turn on Wifi
Hi all, I was flashing a Infamous Google Edition ROM and everything was okay until my phone booted up. My carrier is WIND and I have the SGH-M919V, and every time I locked/unlocked my phone I wouldn't have a signal. I would have to search for my network every time I unlocked my phone, which was really irritating. I tried three other Google Play Edition ROMS, and they all wouldn't let me get a signal. This is strange because I have previously flashed the INFAMOUS S4 ROM with no problems whatsoever. I am currently on Android 4.3 stock rom.
My question to you guys is this: How do I fix the no signal problem so I can get a custom rom again?
Rooted with CF-Auto-Rooter, and used Philz Touch 5 if that helps.
Thanks in advance!

Sigh... What bootloader are you on? KNOX or non-KNOX? If you are on non-KNOX, you need to Odin flash the 4.3 modem that is all over the forums. If you're on KNOX bootloader, check your APN settings. Hope that helps. :good:

Did you find the problem? I'm having a similar issue, but not quite sure where to find this "4.3 modem". I've read references to the mk2 modem but so far it hasn't helped me.
My issues are on Hyperdrove or Darthstalker roms, my network (wind) won't stay connected if I turn the screen off. But on any AOSP rom my network connection is solid.
Also, on this mk2 rom my connection is fine: https://sites.google.com/site/dannyben777/home
I'm just wondering how I can get my WIND network connection to work on the hyperdrive rom =\
This is what I did:
I was trying to get Infamous S4 Google Edition (which is 4.4) when I was on 4.2.2. I tried to install it, but apparently it wouldn't install properly (forget the details). I tried going back to 4.2.2 to try it again, but strangely enough it boot-locked at the SAMSUNG screen. I upgraded to 4.3 and everything worked, so I tried the Infamous ROM again the next day, and it worked
Strangely enough, every time I try to charge my phone when it's powered off it boots back up again, and says something about a kernel (forget, kind of lazy to check).
Hope this kind of helps!
I was using CarbonROM based on JB 4.3.1 but was getting fed up with not being able to connect with families oversea through VOIP such as skype, viber, etc... because the mic doesn't work with voip apps in AOSP Roms. So I decided to go back to stock and full flash samsung's 4.3 stock rom via Odin 3.9; the rom was 2.24GB extracted so I'm almost certain and well aware that it's the bloated tmo samsung tw version.
About device show android version 4.3, baseband M919UVUEMK2, and I can get LTE signal fine but cannot toggle wifi on. And when I go to place a phone call the entire UI freeze and won't respond, then come the "Process com.android.phone isn't responding" dialog box. Except for wifi and phone call everything else seems to work, but I haven't tested extensively yet nor are they important to me.
From here I went about installing latest CWM recovery and SU, and I was able to install OmniROM and CM11 nightlies. But the phone UI freezing problem still persist even with those custom roms.
At this point I have an inkling it has something to do with the new MK2 modem. I noticed that when installing the stock fw it had modem.bin and NON-HLOS.bin entries in Odin. I read through other threads and some mention about not installing NON-HLOS.bin file, but it was included in the stock fw so I don't know why it would misbehave (if it's the culprit)
At this point I am out of options. Someone with knowledge and experience with this please give helps or suggestions. Thank you!
If you flashed via Odin, you had no choice with the non _hlos.bin. That's only for peoples sticking with mdl bootloader but flash 4.3 ROM.
Have you tried a factory reset after updating to 4.3
☞ Sent from here☜
I did a factory reset in TW and it still freeze. I can open the dialer app, punch in a number or choose from contact list, but as soon as I hit Dial the whole phone freeze. The connection is made because I test dialed my home phone # and it rang, just that I could not get the phone to talk. No dial sound from the phone, screen it black; I can see status bar but it won't respond to my touch. When I pick up the home phone and tried to make a conversation there's no sound coming out of the S4, and even if I yell real loud into the mic no voice is carried over to the home phone.
I tried installing latest Omni rom 4.4.2 kitkat nightly, did a factory reset after letting phone sit still at home screen for 5 mins after installation, still can't get the phone app to do its job at all.
Edit: forgot to mention that the phone is unlocked and I'm using Straight Talk AT&T LTE sim. LTE works fine, just no calling due to this update problem here.
nvm I fixed it by reflashing a file Modem_UVUAMDL.tar.md5 until it turns back to MDL baseband, then flashed modem.bin only and it everything works again.

i'm having the same issue, I was to download the modem_UVUAMDL.tar.md5 but it did not include the modem.bin. is it safe to use any version of the modem.bin file I find here?
Was on nf1 and experienced lte data dropping out of nowhere. It happened once everyday, sometimes more than that. After a toggling data on and off it would work again.
I updated to NF4 and problems have continued. Anybody else having this issue?

No.
I do see that when the phone transitions between 4G and LTE or vice versa, I loose data for a few seconds. But that is rare.
I've been experiencing this forever. Seems like no one else is though. Only thing I can do is toggle airplane mode on and off and deal with it...

If you can still use data than no. Data dropping is when it completely cuts out.
I have an N900t on T-Mobile but was experiencing the same random signal loss/no data issue as the OP after the 4.4.2 OTA and updating the baseband to NF4. Afterwords I rooted using the (CF-Auto-Root) for NF4 method and installed the Effortless 4.4.2 stock based ROM. Had the same signal issues so I went back to stock NF4. I immediately got notification for update to baseband NF9. Did the update and so far so good on the sudden random dropped signal issues. Now trying to figure out if the Rooting NF4 (CF-Auto-Root) still applys to rooting the phone after the NF9 update.

Would you mind posting a screenshot of your "About Device" page showing the baseband and build? TIA

Yes, I'm having the same issue. Usually turning on airplane mode then turning it back off fixes it. I updated to nf4 a few days ago and still have the issue. Stock t-mobile rom, not rooted, service with t-mobile.

I'm nf4 and updating stopped the data drops on lte but on switching to 4g data takes about a minute to respond, on NB4 lte would become unresponsive. ..so that seems fixed for me on nf4.......i did a full wipe including internal sdcard and everything has been working fine except the handoff to 4g. Don't know if it helped but i took out sim during the whole process. Ran stock nf4 firmware with pc odin, then rooted and replaced custom recovery then booted to recovery wiped everything except External Sd then rebooted the recovery back into the recovery then flashed the rom I'm currently running.
In your case since your mostly stock I'd get the pc odin tar, remove the sim, then run odin and select the "update bootloader" switch (or something like that) and run it and then boot into the rom (still without sim) setup phone then power down and pop sim in and try the features again that you've had problems with.
(^^^just a suggestion, maybe someone else has a fix)
Also backup your internal sdcard prior just to be safe.
