Dropbox promotion - Verizon HTC One (M7)

If you use Dropbox they are giving HTC users additional space. Here's the email I got the other day:
Hi Stephen,
Congrats on becoming a Dropbox Guru! We've awarded you 23 GB of bonus space for the next 24 months. You now have 26.25 GB on Dropbox. To get even more space, check out our upgrade options.
Thanks again for supercharging your HTC device with Dropbox!
Enjoy,
- The Dropbox Team

My dropbox is only 2.5gb. nothing comes up unless i want to pay 9.95 a mth for 100gb

I just got the email then other day, but I've had this phone going on two months. I don't even know how they knew I had an HTC phone. Maybe there's a way that they check when access your account.
Sent from the One and Only

I will email them and find out ty for your reply.
Mardoon

Never got an email like that... weird. My capacity is still the same too.

Don't believe this is related to the phone, haven't heard of an HTC promo for dropbox in a bit. I've gotten the "Dropbox Guru" message earlier this year along with a space boost, it was on first loading Dropbox after flashing a rom, I believe it has to do with how many devices you've activated Dropbox on, not that you have an HTC phone.

Here is what I found. https://www.dropbox.com/help/249/en
Is my HTC phone eligible for the special promotion?

If you have a brand new HTC phone with Dropbox already installed, you may be eligible to earn additional free space simply by signing in to your account (or creating a new account) from the Dropbox app and completing the steps on our Get Started guide from your desktop computer.
HTC Sense 3.5 and 3.6 phones may be eligible for 3 GB for one year.
HTC Sense 4.0, Sense 4+, and Sense 5.0 phones may be eligible for 23 GB for two years.
Once you qualify for the promotion and complete the Get Started guide, your free bonus space will be automatically added to your Dropbox space, plus an additional 250 MB for completing the Get Started steps. Additionally, each account is only able to claim this promotion once.
U.S. AT&T and Verizon customers
Select carriers have opted-out of the promotion on phones otherwise eligible. Unfortunately, AT&T and Verizon are among those carriers not currently participating.

There was a thread somewhere which detailed how by installing the global ROM you could get the dropbox promotion.

Here is the work around I posted - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2439811
I hope this works for you.

That's worth a try!

just walk into a tmobile store, play with an htc one, sign in, and boom free space.

I got more free space, and I didn't do anything.

Dropbox will give you a chunk of free space for signing in on so many devices, flashing your phone turns it into a new device in their eyes also, so 'Dropbox Guru' is having logged in on so many devices.

I got another email saying that the previous email was sent in error and that I would not be keeping the additional space they gave me. But they are giving me 1Gb for the inconvenience.

Anyone's dropbox showing the increase?

I have setup my device using dropbox but it still only shows 3gb allowance, anyone been successful in getting their allocation increase and if so, how?

I got an email from dropbox about 12 hours after completing setup (email was to the one i used for dropbox - not my gmail). Followed the link in this and then i had an extra 23Gb
Just sit tight, it did take a while for it to come through...

Yes, got it no problem. Entered my existing dropbox account details during the initial phone setup, about ten minutes later got an email telling me that my capacity had been increased by 23GB. Didn't have to do anything.

2 days later and still showing 2.5GB.....
Used my account on setup got email after 2 hours and got another 25gb for referals theyv upped referal rate so get referring
Waiting
Just give it a little time, it took mine about 30 mins to update after I logged on to the phone..
Bloke
Been 5 days and nothing. I wrote to dropbox and nothing too
Make sure you have 5 steps of the "Getting Started" tasks completed too.
IMPORTANT: Just finish the entire "Getting Started"! Or at least 5 of them (that also worked for me)
Not yet, had the phone since yesterday morning. Dropbox app told me to complete some tasks in Getting Started section on the web, but I've already completed 6 out of the 7 tasks before hand, the only one been invite someone else.
I'm going to wait for a week before sending an email to Dropbox.
Well I have emailed them as well. I had already completed the getting started guide so dunno what else to do. Should I be starting a new account? Don't see the point when I already have one I'm using.

The 2GB is the standard free dropbox allowance that everyone gets; HTC customers get an additional 23GB, so they get 25GB in total (hence if you've already got an account you'll just get 23GB added onto your existing total. If you were a new dropbox user you'd have 25GB altogether).

2GB free when you sign up for a new account and extra 23GB with activation of One X.
Yes, but only for 2 years and then it reverts...incidentally, I had my increase within 5 minutes. Had to refresh the Dropbox app first before I could see it in there however.
Nothing here, after about six hours. Dropbox works fine on the phone, but no space increase on my account, and no email received. (I've tried restarting the PC app.)
Are folks who've received the extra space setting up new accounts, or using preexisting ones?

MediaFire Android app lands in Google Play with 50GB of free storage

MediaFire happens to be one of the more well known cloud storage solutions available. And while they have a nice offer, 50GB of free cloud-based storage (and a 200MB file upload size), there has been one item that may have kept them from being fully adopted by Android users — the lack of an app. That being said though, the MediaFire Android app has recently come available.

Probably would have taken me a while to realize the release without your post :highfive:

Is there a legitamate reason to upgrade to the 1.50 per month plan? Is there a benefit? I'm only looking for to backup files and pics. And I'm confused as to what it means by limited for the timeframe that we can store our files on the free account. Anyone know what that means?
Like all the other free storage, its a year more than likely, then after that, you pay the fee or they cut you down to like 2g....most of them are this way. You can only get a couple gig for free with no limits

I have had the free mediafire account since 2009, I still have 50GB of available space and all the other benefits and limitations of the free plan.
I looked into this but truly I feel Adrive is a better deal. You get 50gb free with a 2gb file size upload limit or 1000 files at a time. I've had this service for 5 years almost and they have never decreased it, only increased the file limit. The only issue is the android app kind of sucks but it gets the job done. It's definitely something to look into.

Quick Office Free (Thanks 2 Google)

FREE UNTIL 9/26/2013
From now through Sept. 26, you have the opportunity to score an extra 10GB of Google Drive space, no extra charge.
The requirement: Install the new Quickoffice app for Android or iOS--which, incidentally, is also now free. Then sign into your Google account via that app. Presto! You get another 10GB of gratis storage.
Google recently purchased Quickoffice, and the fruits of their labor have finally bloomed. The app is now being offered for free for both Android and iOS, so you can do your document creation and editing without paying a cent.
Best of all, if you download the app, you can get 10 extra gigabytes of Google Drive storage for free! Sign in with your Google account in the app by September 26 and you’ll receive that 10GB for two years. Don’t expect to see it immediately; Google says it’ll be added to your account in the next few weeks.

And to your "recently" quote! They may have bought it a year ago. But it's now being announced that's it's available for free until the 26 of Sept. But the Sept 26 date is for the extra 10 gigs of space you GET.

No, I did not lost you, buddy. Let see:
"FREE UNTIL 9/26/2013" ... definitely not true, it will be free without restriction, that means also AFTER that date.
"Google recently purchased Quickoffice,..." ... also not true, at least I think "recently" should be maybe couple of months max, not more than a year in this case. In this case is June 2012.
from your last post "But it's now being announced that's it's available for free until the 26 of Sept." ... also not true, it will be free without restriction (as I already told).
You are only right about that until 26.9 you should get free space.
Also, I see what did you probably mean with "FREE UNTIL 9/26/2013" now, you were talking about that free space. But from the context of subject of this topic it was not clear.
But nevermind, Happy QuickOfficing for everybody.

Just tried and got 48GB
Ok. Thanks. Not sure why you got 48GB, but it's close enough to 50 that I won't complain either way.
I also got 48GB. Technically, when combined with the 2-some-oddGB that dropbox gave me from the start, it ends up being like 50.7GB total, so maybe that's why they say "Get 50GB of Dropbox free!" I mean, after all, 50GB is such a nicer number than 48.

I'm glad this promo is still active, as the 50GB from my ATT SGS3 "hack", was due to expire in the summer of 2014, but this'll extend it to the end of 2015, by which time 50GB should be the new minimum free amount of cloud storage anyway.
edit: fwiw, I also used the "virtual machine MAC address hack" (google it) to get another 20GB free, so I've got a total of 70GB for free (which is the max you can get afaik).

Same here, FWIW.
The 50GB that I got from my SGS3 is expiring June 2014, and the 50GB that I was supposed to get from my Note3 (during setup) was neither added to my current 70GB quota nor did it reset my expiration date.
Perhaps the way it works is that since the promos don't stack, then when one Samsung dropbox promo expires, the next one -- still hidden -- begins? In any case, it would be nice to have the confusion cleared up, so that I don't have to reupload after reactivating on my Note3 next summer.

That's why you pre-encrypt stuff you want to keep secret. I use encfs locally, and periodically sync it to various places like my VPS and DropBox, but others use TrueCrypt, gpg, etc.
As far as photos, I don't care if Agent P can see 'em, so I Dropsync 'em after I've deleted the crappy/blurry ones. (I'd sync with the official DropBox app, but it's dumb, in that won't delete the crappy/blurry ones you've deleted off your phone, so you'd have to do it twice).
My friend purchased a Note 3, but does not plan to use Dropbox. Is the Dropbox credit transferable? I would like to get it from him.
I read the FAQ at Dropbox (reference: https://www.dropbox.com/help/297/en) and it is stated, "The first Dropbox account that signs in to the app on the device will get 48 GB of free space." I'm thinking I can just sign in with my account on his phone, get the 48GB of storage immediately, then sign out. If he wants to create his own account, that should be fine. Is my assumption correct? Thanks.
Thanks!
Vic
When I first set up my phone, ti did the "log into dropbox for the extra space". I did it all but never got it. I did however have 50 gigs from when I bought my S3 a year and a half ago. Would that have stopped it from applying or would it have applied anyways?

20 TB cloud storage deal any review (Degoo on Galaxy Store)

Under apps "Made for Samsung" in Galaxy Store, Degoo App shows as 20 TB offer for Samsung.
If anyone among you have tried it and can give a review will highly appreciate it.

Is it 20 GB or 20TB, because even OP states in title 20TB, then lists 20GB in his posts and the picture clearly shows 20000 GB = 20TB.
Let me see: with my monthly allocation of 5GB per month for high speed data on my line, I could upload my maximum allocation of data to their servers for next 333 years before they get full, WOW.
What I found... Since I am always looking for better could storage options
So here is what I found.
It's 100GB free, but you can upgrade to their ultimate plan and get the 20TB storage for $70/year since you are a "Samsung" user. Someone will have to verify if this offer is available for other brand users, I have a feeling that it is and is an introductory offer. This when compared to the Amazon storage plan I am using for photos, videos and docs is $60/ year for 1TB of storage.
Don't know if anyone used Amazon, but I signed up when they advertised "Unlimited Storage" for prime members for $60. About a year later they then dropped it to 1 TB and started offering other storage plans. Felt cheated, but that was the best available. Google is also around the same ballpark. If any of you know of any other service that will backup pictures straight from the phone for cheaper, please let me know. Comparing Amazon to this, looks like a great deal, but yet to do research on reviews, security, privacy etc.

Pcloud offers a 2TB Lifetime single payment account which I'm planning to get on Black Friday as price may drop to 275$ from current 350$.
https://www.pcloud.com/cloud-storag...p=signin&product=premium-plus&period=lifetime
If amazon can do that then so can Degoo I guess.
Also I checked 100GB free is offered to any user who signs up, the 20TB one may be exclusive to Samsung users.

I have a 3TB lifetime sub to Degoo. It works great for my long-term storage needs. There is no native Linux client, but there is for Microsoft OS and macOS. I get an additional 2GB or so each week just for interacting with it.

Just googled and they seem to be offering 10TB Lifetime for 100$ on Stack Social.
Is this the deal you have. I'm looking for a way to upload files directly to their servers and not sync them with my system, will Degoo work in that way.
Thank and regards.

Wow, that is such a better deal that I got. If I didn't already have the 3TB plan, I'd snap this up.

What's your experience with the service? How are you using it? Mac, PC, IOS or Android?

For iOS, it's a set and forget. I use it to backup my photos and videos, mostly.
They have a basic app for Microsoft OS, and it does backup up your data reliably. To my knowledge, they don't deduplicate if you have the file in more than one directory, and I don't see a way to move a file once it is uploaded to Degoo. It looks like you would have to delete and reupload the file. Maybe someone else knows how to do it?
In Linux, I use the web app. I generally go to the My Files button, which shows me everything that I have backed up, by PC. I can then upload files into one of those collections.
There is an option you can set to keep files on the backup, even if they are deleted from the source system.
