Hi! I'm so confused...
I haven't used the phone, and I thought I lost it, and I found it recently. I updated the phone to 4.0.4.
~
* Can you just link me to a guide that shows how to root
Model: SPH-D710
Android: 4.0.4
Build: IMM76.FF18
I don't really know why I'm rooting it....
These are some of the rooting guides:

I have no idea which one is the easiest, or even if they would work since this one is FF18
Things I don't know what to do with:

These are files I dl onto my laptop (I stopped dling because I wasn't sure which guide I was following):
SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe
tFI27_Agats_Recovery-rev2.exe
SuperOneClickv2.2-ShortFuse.zip
I thought I should ask which is the right guide I should be following for this build version. Maybe I should've rooted before upgrading.
Things for later....

I'm guessing you need to root to upgrade to the latest android? So I guess that's why I'm rooting? Clueless.

* Signal strength of the wifi is low.
** Others had different problems like couldn't connect, or random disconnection after the upgrade
*** One said 4.0.4 wasn't playing nice with the older router
**** Maybe upgrading would make things better

* Apps you delete are still showing up when you press the application icon

Ok, I don't have a "micro usb" cable so have to get one (which kind? there's so many).
The version is FF18 so can anyone confirm I should still do this because the video (under "Instructions - ") said to make sure it's version GB27.

the video says gb27...because that is the android version you are going to use odin to flash/install. gb27 4.1.2 is the latest and last update this device will get...but we all hope thats not true..lol.
anyway...if youre this new to the device , root and custom roms/kernels/recoveries...i highly suggest reading the stickies and just about everythingyou can grab in this forum...its all there...
i also suggest that if you would like to get youre feet wet playing with root and some of the root apps. that you stay stock and root your device..that way you dont have to deal with custom roms and recoveries right out the gate. just as a heads up...this device has a kernel and recovery that are tied together...in other words...you have to flash a different kernel to get a different recovery....unless youre on cm/aosp/aokp based roms and flash the twrp recovery made for this device...it injects itself over the recovery that is with the current kernal...but thats down the line..
there is an app on xda called framaroot....its a downloadable apk...that you can install with a file browser and use to root this device...it will work on ics and the jb version for this device...
like i said above....this will root youre device and let you check out some root apps...but as ryan said above.....if you want to flash a jb rom..you will need to use the gb27 rooted one click that wipes data...this is needed because of the new preload partition within jellybean...
as stated above.....wipes data....so backup anything you wish to save...
good luck...if you have any questions...there is a great q&a thread stickied at the top of this page....post your question there....i or another member(far smarter than me,lol) will see it and help you out....but remember, a good member tries to help themselves first. so read up and google search...and if youre unsure about something we are here to help...
welcome to the E4GT forum...
edit...as far as cables go...its hit and miss . i have a 30 dallor cable that odin cant see and the free one that came with my phone works great...

If I had to make a guess I would say hes using multiple batteries and a wall charger..
GS4 Stock Rooted MJA 4.3,Philz Touch CWM,HotSpot Mod,Transparent Weather Widget...
I'm much more confused now. Can anyone confirm if you should do those instructions on that version?
I said on the first post that I haven't used the phone since I thought I lost it. I checked out the charger and saw that it was the cable I needed. Silly me!

If you follow steps 1 through 7 of the forum that @bilgerryan posted, you can't go wrong. If you are still unsure, go to youtube and search Qbking77's video on how to root the Epic 4G touch to GB27. The video has a link to the files needed. You will also need a usb cable the will allow you to connect to the pc. Not all usb cables work so you will have to find one that will. If you FOLLOW the video, you cannot go wrong. When I first started, that was the video I used and everything worked just as was shown in the video. This all may look and sound confusing, but it really isn't. The forum is a step by step instruction on what the video actually shows. :good:
On #5, the ODIN did not show yellow COM port in 2nd column
I don't know what com port is or what odin is, but there's no yellow on the 2nd column.
The odin is saying "Please wait" so I'm not sure if I should unplug it... it said not too....
The instructions before that didn't really make sense... I dled the .exe file.
I opened the .exe file
Plugged in the usb
And still no yellow.
Are you suppose to press 'start' now?
I pressed start. It say this:
==
<OSM> Enter CS for MD5..
<OSM> Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..
<OSM> Please wait..
<OSM> Checking MD5 finished Sucessfully..
<OSM> Leave CS..
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0)
==
Now what???????????????????????????????? So confused.
What yellow is it talking about........
Phone shows it's charging. Is that why? Are you not able to transfer stuff when the phone is charging?
Do you have the Samsung drivers installed on your PC?
Tried installing it, and it said it's already installed.
Nothing changed with the yellow thing when I tired it after installing and before installing the drivers.
I also restarted...
Trying to see if the other files would make this work.
So dled the tar.md5 file for "restore" and "nodata"
Extracted it.
And the file is still tar.md5 and I can't open it, don't know how
I did a factory reset http://www.hard-reset.com/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-epic-4g-touch-hard-reset.html
Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset
because I feel like the phone has problems.
The yellow thing still doesn't work.
Maybe it's because this build version is FF18...
You are doing far too much and over complicating things
Download the .exe file here onto your PC-http://www.rwilco12.com/downloads.p...-D710)/Stock ROMs/JB/GB27/Full Restore/Rooted
Double click on it to run it
Put phone in Download Mode (Hold Vol Down+Power when phone is completely powered down)
Connect phone to computer (after you are in Download Mode)
Run once you see it pop up as COM and a # (ex COM4)
Wait for it to finish
I really think you should check out QBKing77's YouTube video if you don't get it this time.
Ok, I finally got it into download mode. I watched the video. I just didn't understand so I looked at the instructions instead (I thought option 3, plugging in the usb cable, would work)
But no yellow thing (com) after connecting the usb cable, but I don't think it's the cable because charging the phone worked.

Are you able to transfer things to the computer via USB? Does your computer recognize your phone is plugged in (not in Download Mode, when booted)
I don't see a usb icon so I guess not?

#1 was already started
#2 is fine since the mouse is fine
don't know what #3 is.
The phone charges so the usb works? D
What to do...

Just because it charges does not mean that the cable isn't your problem here. Is there any other Micro USB cable you can try?

Hi all, first time poster, long time reader here. I've gotten many useful info from this forum (updating my 8525, before that, my HP H8315...) and everything has gone without a hiccup, never had a problem since my first PDA phone. However, today as I did a soft-reset on my 8525 (I had Pocket Plus installed, and there's a button to reset). Instead of seeing the usual 3G/ATT screen, there were 4 horizontal bars across the screens. The first bar is red, 2nd is green, 3rd is blue, and last is white. Within the red bar it says:
Herm100
IPL-1.04
Herm100
SPL-2.03
And in the white bar, centered, was the text "Serial"
What's going on? I tried hard-resetting, even taking out the battery, and it still won't boot.
A little background on my PDA phone: I upgraded the ROM a while back, and I also upgraded it to WM6. Nothing was done to it as of recently.
Does anyone know what's up?

Your device seems to be stuck in bootloader mode. Try flashing a current ROM then report.
Hi, thank you for your reply. But I don't quite understand what you meant by "flashing a current ROM"... Can you elaborate further? Thank you!
PS: It is just stuck at that screen forever. Won't even power down or showing a status of it going anywhere. If I lost the sync cable, is there anything else I can do to attempt to revive it or no?
try this
try a factory reset, with the phone off, press and hold the a and b buttons, these are the 2 buttons, 1 just above the windows key and 1 just above the ok key, hold these 2 down and power on the phone while holding them, follow the onscreen instructions, remember this will reset all of your info
Flashing=installing
If you do not have a sync cable d/load and copy ROM from this site and copy it to the sdcard, then install rom from card.

Hi, thank you for your reply. I tried that and it still went back to the original screen (red green blue white bars).
@Rojam: if I can't use the phone (stuck on that screen) how could I install/run anything?
Thank you very much for all your effort so far.
Great news, I just found out that the sync cable is just a standard USB cable. Now that I found the cable, where do I go from here?
I turned on the device and plug it in. The "Serial" text has now changed to "USB", however, ActiveSync hasn't recognized it yet (Not Connected).

Have you Hard SLP'd your device yet? Read the wiki on the Hermes. It will explain how to flash your device. You will either need to connect to active sync or run the file on your SD card. Check to see if the card is formatted corrected per the wiki. You will need to flash a OEM ROM. Hope that helps.
if you have the mini usb cable, connect it to your pc, activesync wont see it because it's in bootloader mode, activesync doesn't need to see it.
Just download another rom and with the phone connected showing the 'bars' screen, run the RUU program to flash the phone from your pc, it'll automatically see the phone, and just flash it, you should be good from there..
yeah, OEM rom for sure
and again, make sure you have HardSPL
Wow, I just want to say THANKS ALOT to everyone attempted to help. Man that was amazing
Anyway back on topic, I have a few questions (I'm kinda slow at these tech things so please bear with me)
1. What kind of ROM (version??, link would be GREATLY appreciated) do I need to flash now?
2. I've read the wiki thing mentioned, but I was not able to see where it shows how to "properly format" my MicroSD card.
3. I haven't "hard SPL" my phone yet (too late now, as it won't boot) so is it safe to flash the ROM? I think the boot-loader screen says my SPL is 2.03 or something (please refer to my original post)
Have same problem w/ my 8525. Plugged in to charger one day and turned on booted up ok. Tried everything before to no avail couldn't get off bootloader screen. Pull out battery to turn off then plug in to charger and turn on should boot properly. I have not been able to get it to boot up properly w/o plugging into a charger 1st. But works fine with this work around. Just make sure don't do soft reset or turn off w/o having charger available or usb cable. Hope works for you.
Mate, find the shipped stock rom. WM06 upgrade should also work as it should recognise the CID. Do a search on the wiki for "stock hermes roms", you might get lucky. Iy doubtful that you will find it on your carriers site now but if you post what your original carrier was you may find some love.
DON'T USE JUST ANY STOCK ROM.... You require the ROM that has the same CID as your original.
If you find the shipped rom, do as HolyAngel said but make sure its the shipped ROM before you put the Hermes into bootloader (tri-colour screen) the click on the RUU program to flash the phone from your pc. I'd also right click on activesync first and go to connections to untick "Allow USB Connection". Less chance of problems that way.
If you get it up and running (saying goodbye to all your contacts, apps and messages), make sure you download and install Hard SPL V7. Makes it easier to fix if stuff like this happens...
Cheers...
Here is the at&t official flasher/installer that I downloaded from at&t for my 8525. This will flash the phone to WM6 and flashes the radio to 1.54.07.00. I changed the location of where the file is uploaded to a place where it should stay for a while. Or you could search for "RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_3.62.502.3_6275_1.54.07.00_108_UOOS_SVN05_Ship.exe" that is the name of the official file from at&t

Thank you man, one question: you want me to UNCHECK the "Allow USB connection" ???

The only other thing I can think of, is trying the at&t stripped rom. I'm being too lazy to search for it right now, but I do know it's in vekyas 4 shared files.
You might be able to choose the bootloader in the xda ruu.

I added the stripped rom, and the official rom links in my sig. Since it seems to be such a popular question.
Guide
Yesterday I first successfully flashed G5 firmware + root. Later I unsuccessfully tried to make the lag fix for memory card. After that I recovered back up using Back UP Pro and restarted. Got a bunch of FC, so decided to reflash.
During the flash on first step odin crashed (just a nondescript message with attention sign and path to Odin) + second error right after first one, only with some strange symbals-hieroglyphs after the path to odin).
Edit - pics:

and
After that nothing is happening in odin and everything is grayed out. Error can be different (that was just my error), but the point is that phone is bricked (does not turn on). Causes can vary from you disconecting device during flash, computer crashing, ODIN crashing (my case), alien abductions and other very possible reasons =)
After that I always got the same problem - either stuck on reading file (or what is the first step analyses, etc) or crashes (mostly now).
Phone is bricked - I can either go to download screen, or some screen with phone and computer icons connected by dotted line with attention icon - screenshot, thanks to m3keni.
I looked at "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement" (thanks goes to blackerwater) advice and several recovery advices (up + menu + power; down + power; laptop does not recognize apd device).
Win 7 x64.
Solution
try odin on a different computer phone should be ok once you flash.. i flash multiple times on one then suddenly wouldnt flash anymore.. just hung.. re-did it on a laptop and it worked fine.

What are the other options for recovery? And any possible advice on such an error? Like how to do a complete wipe, hardreset, recovery, better flashing advice?

something like this???
If so, try to remove the battery.. leave it out for about 30 - 60 seconds.. patience is the key..
Try to restart your computer and then upon restart.. load odin.. load pit.. code.. modem.. csc..
Now on your phone.. press the volume down + home key then power ON the phone.
Connect your device to your computer.. ding ding..
As per the odin application choose, enabale re-partition..
Then press START.
**cross your fingers and hope for the best.
**i encountered that screen when my lappy suddenly died.. unplugged the wrong power cord (my lappy's battery is MIA at the moment).
Wish you all the best and hope this works.

Thats exactly what I have been doing (and tried flashing pit 513 + JG1, as it was my previous firmware), but once again am stuck at crashes in odin.
Will try, if everything fails today, to flash it from friends computer in the evening.
Have you tried downloading a fresh copy of odin? Odin should not need any compatibility modes so you should start looking for what you changed on your PC between the last working and the non-working flash. But rest (relatively) easy: The state your phone is in, is quite easily recovered (given you have a working PC)
Just reflashed my phone successfully. In case anyone has the same error in future what I did is:
1) Run ODIN with admin rights and in comparability mode.
2) Restart. I did about gazilion restarts, both windows and phone.
3) Every flash - restart of phone (remove battery), without SD card or SIM card, restart of Windows (7 x64) - during the boot process press F8 and Select "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement". (thanks to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723041 ).
Every restart - new USB port, not sure if it did affect anything.
4) While I have seen recommendations to close Kies and any other software that could use COM ports (I have OVI Suite and Nokia PC Suite installed for my old Nokia 5800) on last sucesful flash-reboot I left everything running.
5) Try re-downloading ODIN again, in case it is corrupted. Or re-downloading the firmware.
6) Very possible solution for my original problem (screenshots) - starting ODIN as soon as windows starts and to flash as soon as you can after windows start. Seems to fix my original issue.
7) Interesting solution by eizyark
The most sucessful combination proved to be:
a) Restart the PC using the Disable Driver Signature Enforcement.
b1) Optionally (if you already have bricked device) try leaving Kies on (tray icon).
b2) Run ODIN and select files you wish to flash (I used pit 512 and JG5 files - all 3, code-pda, modem-phone and csc).
b3) Usually it is recommended to select "Re-Partition" (in some cases might actually help you unbrick - experiment) - I did not.
c) Switch on the phone (insert the battery) and boot into download mode (Volume down + Menu + power)
d) Connect the cables (cable was disconnected from both the device and laptop). At this stage Odin should see your device, as described by flash tutorials (yellow + COM).
e) Flash.

Actually I did. Don't think it was actually a problem with ODIN as its just an executable file. Old-new file sizes were the same and it made no difference trying to flash.
All I can say - Im guite a geek, have been playing around with computers for more than decade and I still dont understand them. I really have no idea what was so different this time, but I actually did flash my phone again.
What is even funnier - just tried to flash the modified kernel for ext4 partition on sd card - same error (phone though reboots without any problems).
I think I found another way as well on how to save your phone. I had a similar problem. what I did was, when odin has detected the phone, press start without adding anything. after a few seconds the phone will boot up normally. well it worked for me, maybe this might help others as well.

Maybe we should pin this or any other topic for people to post if they have bricked their device?
I'm sorry to say this and I in no way mean to offend you:
This "Solution" is a seemingly random collection of steps, any of which may have originally been the real solution. However, many of the steps are likely superfluous and before this can become a guide/reference, you would definitely need to narrow this down to steps that need to be taken in specific situations.

If you have this screen then just disconnect the USB lead, press and hold, power, vol. down and home until the 'Downloading' screen appears, start ODIN and then reconnect the USB and reflash.

I know =) It was just a solution for my original problem. Thats why I said that this, or any other topic. Its just now we had close to 10 topics, not to mention posts in faq or original topics about each firmware asking pretty much the same questions and describing the almost the same problem.

When I press the Volume Down + Home Key and then Power I get the Phone!PC screen instead of the download screen.
was bored at work and just kept pressing the Download mode combo over and over and it went to download mode from the dreaded cell!pc screen. got the stock rom to flash finally and all appears to be well.
Hi,
Sorry to interrupt but I've managed to brick mine completely...I was trying to update to Froyo without getting any far (not applied any firmware as yet) but I thought I could try the three button fix first so I downloaded the .zip file and stored in root directory of phone.
Before I could apply the fix...i was messing around and the three button worked without applying the fix. However, in recovery mode, first i deleted the data and did a factory reset followed by .zip update (three button fix file...what was i thinking!) which screwed up the phone useless.
It does not power up at all even after removing battery etc...the pc will not recognise it either!
Anything i can do without sending back to samsung/vodafone (the phone was rooted!)
Thanks in advance..ash
Trhow it in the water if you have insurance and hope they give you a new one

Evening,
This a tutorial about how to easily downgrade your HTC Phones bootloader to install hspl and custom roms.
FAQ:
1) What is a GoldCard? A) It's a method to easily flash ROM files etc.
2) My phone performs an infinite reboot-loop, what to do? Answer: A couple of reboots are normal, if the phone keeps rebooting for more than 5 minutes, try this: a) Be sure to format the card to fat32 b) Try another sd-card/flashdrive or a different card reader. c) Check your cable configuration.
3) Can I fix a bricked bootloader with this method? Answer: Yes! If you're able to get into USB-Host Mode it's possible. If you're not able to get into USB Host Mode with a bricked bootloader, post a comment with you're device details, we might be able to help you out.
4) Only shows "Entering USB Mode" Answer: This means your phone can't access the file. A) Try another cable configuration B) Check if card is formatted to fat32 C) try another cable, card reader or card. Some cards/flash-drives just don't work. I highly recommend to use a SD/MicroSD card, since they're way more likely to work.
What you need
Hardware:
- Micro SD Card or SD Card. Some users succeeded using flashdrives (for example USB-sticks), but I highly recommend SD Cards/MicroSD Cards., since most flashdrives don't work.
- Card reader
- Y-Cable USB
- USB Gender Changer
Files:
- Goldcard-tool
- My custom goldcard.img
- Your device-specific .nbh image.
You need to download a nodo rom for your device and extract Ruu_signed.nbh via Winrar. Rename it to
-Sparimg.nbh for Spark (Trophy)
Rom-download: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427904

So let's start:
Make sure you're battery is above 50%
Format the MicroSD Card to fat32
Copy the .nbh Image to the MicroSD Card
Launch Goldcard Tool
While ignoring the cid box, choose "Load GoldCard.img" and select the goldcard.img you just downloaded
Press "Patch MMC" and wait for confirmation
Unplug the MicroSD Card
Connect the Y-Cable and the USB-gender-changer like shown in the picture
Connect the MicroSD-Card
Connect your phone
Connect the y-cable to an ordinary usb port
Hold Power+Camera+VolumeDown until the USB Host Mode appears
Wait about 30 min until the update completes. The phone may reboot a couple of times.
After the update completed, unplug your phone and reboot

Now your spl should be downgraded.
Now you can install HSPL, visit this thread for further details: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195647
After that, you can install any custom roms. You'll find those in the Development section of your Device forum in XDA. For example for Tropy here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=812

I think this is something that we done to our HD7 right? (If i'm not mistaken)
It can be done to any gen1 HTC phone to safely downgrade the SPL (in order tin install RSPL/HSPL and custom ROMs).
I believe there is a thread about goldcard somewhere in the forum.

There are few ones. I credited them in the OP.
The point why I wrote this guide is, that the previous guides often included unnecessary steps, they were sometimes inconsistent between each other, not very detailed, you needed to build yourself custom wires, and manually find the necessary files yourself.
So I wrote an easy, minimal, noob-friendly guide.
anyway I like your thread and post.
I'll have to order the parts to try this GoldCard method next week.
Can you please add information to your first post about Spark_W (CDMA Trophy for Verizon Wireless)?
Image name: SPAWIMG.nhb
Rom image link is exact same as Spark, since Football also includes Spark_W roms in the list. Also note that SPL downgrade for Spark_W is from ver 2.x to ver 1.03.
I plan on buying the stuff to try this method next week, since it is much easier then regular GoldCard method, and I've been too lazy to solder my hacked up USB y-cable.
So this custom GoldCard.img doesn't require a serial number of an SDCard? That's awesome
Spark_W users, even though they have a downgrade method using roms, still might need GoldCard method to fix half-bricked bootloaders.. which I actually found a repeatable scenerio that might become common for some shortly.
If your setup works for Spark_W, then it will totally become my go-to guide to point people at, since it removes the need for a phone, and its in a simple and easy to understand guide with links to items that make it work.
Only thing I would add (which was one the reasons I was going to write a guide to GoldCard) would be.. at the start of your guide:
1) Q. What is a GoldCard? A) A specially formatted SDCard used to flash a stock rom to a phone when normal flashing methods do not work.
2) Q. Why would I need to make a GoldCard? A) To downgrade your SPL when you are unable to flash an SPL downgrade using other methods, or when your bootloader becomes "halfbricked" and will not allow you to flash using a PC and a USB cable.
Great job, and I'll be bookmarking this for future use... and probably editing my HSPL Spark_W guide to point at this.
Thanks, I'll include that.
so my phone is one of them bricked ones.. it works fine, but the device doesnt get recognized in bootloader mode.. will this method help me downgrade the rom and fix the bootloader? today i tried a couple of times to enter usb host mode, but with no success.. does the phone have to be connected to a pc when i'm trying to enter host mode? if i press vol up+camera+power, the phone goes in... download mode? i dont really what mode it is.. but it shows a mobile phone, usb cable and a laptop.. will this mode work? and last... for how long i need to hold vol down+camera+power to enter usb host mode? thnx for your replies in advance

I had same problem with my HTC 7 Pro (bricked) and on last december and, if I remember well, with goldcard I was able to get back my bootloader.
Then I could HSPL my device and install custom rom!
Have a look also to the video in the third or fourth post of this thread to see how to connect sd reader, phone etc etc...

I haven't tested, but I'm 95% sure that this method will fix your phone.
To enter USB Host Mode, shut down your phone and then press power+camera+volume-down for about 10 sec. The phone doesn't need to be connected to a pc.
Regards, Klaus
First of all, did not know that there was one more command to the device,
such as mentioned by the major user MarysFetus, so I decided to turn my HTC Trophy with DFT HSPL v3 to the original custom OSPL to test this method and update to the 8107 version with the zune, and did not want to update it more if I suffered half brick lol. (Also that it did not take this method as I HSPL available, but curiosity killed me haha)
Thanks for giving the user Budniu version 0.0.5.
As it was held the following commands (hold) "power / volume (+) / camera" and we'll be out a phone with a USB and a PC laptop and thus to test the method could make the Gold card method of this post. .. satisfactorily.
By that I mean it's a great post!
Maybe holding down the buttons (volume (less) + Camera button + Power) came into USB Host mode and may also perform the same method and tested it or not, since I never was needed ..... . HSPL qu already available, but it is now certain is that this method with the first mentioned commands could make the gold card, simply out of curiosity: P
Sorry for my bad English and I use the google translator and I would not confuse users for my bad translations

Post #1 also now updated with a full in-depth REVIEW, enjoy
Very nice s7yler, that'sa good and interesting phone. When you sucessfully got root it, maybe I can try to theme the phone for you. Also made it on my HDC Note 3.
just ordered mine from DHgate, Excited:fingers-crossed:
Poor 3G reception.
Hi,
I've received my S2 4 day ago.
It's wonderfull, very little, fast enought...
But I've big problem with 3g reception: very very poor!
Only if it is closed to the cell bridge you have a good signal, otherwise it change in GSM mode.
Compared with my ZTE V970 (not a champion!) it have 15 dB less in 3G mode!
So it's unusable!
GPS and WiFi is weak too.
No problem in GSM mode.
Have you same problem?
Thanks.
EDIT:
SOLVED!!!
I've opened my phone, and view that internal side of film antenna for GSM (that's for 3G too) was a little crooked; I've detached and re-attached it properly. NOW MY PHONE WORK PRETTY-WELL IN 3G NOTWORKS!
It's not a champion of reception, but it's usable now!
I'm happy...
:victory:

3G depends on what frequency/network your carrier uses. It can be different from carrier to carrier or country to country.
Mine is always connected to 3G (here in Germany), but I agree that the signal is stronger with GSM only. GPS is ok, not the fastest though, the same with the WiFi, the range is good enough, but I also could wish the speed was faster.

Thanks S7yler, i've themed the SystemUI, to have the G3 look on Toogles of status bar.
If you want try, simply put this modded systemUI on the same priv-app folder, and set permissions to rw-r-r, maybe during the process the phone will reboot before you put permissions, but will but normally. Anyway, if you wanna try this. Have a good backup of your Rom in hands to flash if something goes wrong, and also backup the SystemUI.apk, you already has it on mediafire, btw it's up to you.
If you try this, let me know if you like, and show some screens. You can theme more the notification bar, with the XBlast tool for Xposed.
firmware ?
hello, anyone has the opportunity to find firmware for this device? and impossible to do root !! someone is successful?
thanks
The rom you can download from here kingsing.hk/services but S2 not avalible, among other.
s7yler how you root your S2 ? I do with difficulties "read back" method to read S2 rom and flash recovery, but I do it. Now I can't boot recovery, only factory mode...
With vRoot install vRoot apk, can't install supersu and root checker says "not root"
TowelRoot not work

It rooted it via this guide from Itxtutor (with the read back method)
http://www.china-devices.com/Thread-100-Working-ROOT-CWM-Readback-your-ROM-with-SP-Flash-Tools
The complicated part can be to find the correct HEX numbers, and connect the phone so it begins the readback process. I did it yesterday and struggled almost 1 hour with it to connect correct and start the process, but it did work in the end. (the tricky part on that phone was that I had to hold volume UP down while inserting the battery and the USB cable, and then the readback process would start without any errors, before that it always stopped up with some strange BROM/DRAM error).
Also in step 8 in Itxtutors written guide, you need to flash both the patched BOOTIMG and RECOVERY, not only the RECOVERY (as his guide only shows). Else it will not work.
Also a tip is, if it SP Flash Tool crashes, then try another version of SP Flash Tool, I have 3 versions to try with. SP Flash Tool 3.1352.01, SP Flash Tool 3.1344.0.212 and SP Flash Tool 5.1348.00, and you can also try another USB port.
Thanks for your advice s7yler!
Yes I follow Itxtutor steps, but I flash only recovery and only boot in recovery line :silly: ... ok ok!
Preloader is no stable, on off constantly, I have tried different drivers ... I have tried volume buttons but not result
I use SP 5.1352.01
Method 100% - Battery inserted, plug USB, appears green battery, (now do it fast) unplug USB, battery disappears, push download in SP, plug USB
I flash recovery and bootimg separately, two times, both times without error.

Why disable usb debugging? just let it be on, it does no harm. I even heard that some phones (other models) should run better with usb debugging set to on.

Yeah thats exactly what I thought. I know it's not fine see one error like that on the phone. But just ignore it a lot of things and tool need USB debug and let it on forever will not affect nothing in the device
Thanks
s7yler, please make a backup of your rom, with mtkdroid, since you're able to perform root?
thanks

I don't have access to sd card or internal storage when try via usb. This happened when have usb debugging activated, I remember this from android 4.2. Now in 4.4.2 can't transfer files directly from pc.
Got my replacement display assembly a couple days ago and went on to replace the screen. Connected everything back and everything seems to work - except for the touch screen functionality.
Checked the ifixit tutorial for display assembly replacement and found that someone commented that he has the exact problem, stating he found a guide to "remove the metal protection over the connector to properly disconnect it and reconnect after"

Checked the connection multiple times, seems to be connected properly, which makes me assume that what he did works. Thing is - I don't understand how am I supposed to remove everything and put it back together.
Any help?
Thanks.

The copper looking piece is held in with small clips around the edges. I used a small flat head inserted into the corners and pried straight up to lift it out of the clips. It came off pretty easily. Then you just need to line it back up with the clips and press down to replace it.

That worked great - though there is a different issue now.
Phone seems to keep locking and unlocking itself every few seconds.
Seems to be an issue in the connection between the bottom and top parts of the mobo.
Any idea about what could be the issue here?
Hi, I don´t want to make new thread, maybe someone can tell me how to fix my problem.
I changed Lcd+touch for my ZE500CL/Z00D and first Touch Panel Firmware update failed, but after hard reset trough recovery it started to work. But now every time I turn it off nad on / or just reboot, it updates touch panel firware.. luckily successfully... but every time.. I use last official SW version (V12.16.5.126 ).

it looks too much struggle, so if there is no other way then I leave it so. ( I have Win 10 and usb keyboard, so I can´t disable driver signatures ). Or can I flash this raw.zip in root folder like odher updates?

buddy that link was to get raw firmware only. you do not need to disable signature enforcement. just download rar firmware file and flash it with AFT. use the only section flash raw firmware. you need to install only asus usb driver

impossible to find proper step by step AFT using guide, 1. like do in need first unlock bootloader? 2. when I boot (power + vol up) fastboot mode then AFT dont find phone and "fastboot cmd waiting" .. . is in red, everywhere I can see users have blue text there. 3. do in need activate USB debuging?
Flashing is not something unknown for me , I have using 3 years Nexus 5 and still using it, but flashing asus devices is unknown and strange.
I better leave this phone as it is. I hope user have extra 10 sec time to wait touch panel update on every boot.
