My name is Dragos and I'm the founder and senior designer of Viiwok, a startup which builds VR adapters and controllers.
More specifically we're currently in the final testing rounds of the first mobile HMD in the world. It's basically a hybrid tablet adapter with integrated, discrete headtracking sensors (as in not using the tablet's gyro/accelerometer sensors).
What it does is letting you slide in any 7" tablet and wirelessly displaying stereographic 3D video feed from the computer. It's basically a mobile Oculus Rift and a future proof product as well, since we're not constrained of resolution and hardware issues - because you can always use the latest and most powerful tablet at your disposal. The headtracking has basically zero latency and the FOV is about 120 degrees, using specially designed aspheric lenses with a 2" diameter for each eye. Besides native 3D support in certain titles (Crytek titles made with Cryengine, DOOM 3 BFG, etc.), we can also use TriDef for realtime side-by-side 3D rendering of currently unsupported games.
While gaming is our main scope, the HMD could be also used for virtual tourism and landscaping, in medicine (disabled or severely handicapped persons) or CAD design. Our next project to be launched is an omnidirectional treadmill which detects your body movements in real time (walking, jumping, crouching), much like a Kinnect, but without the back-facing and latency constraints.
Right now we're using Gamepad THD and Kainy for the video feed, but also Limelight for native Shield streaming ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2505510&page=15 ) while also developing our own video streaming solution in house.

What sets this apart from the Oculus Rift? Why should I be interested in this project?

1. It's completely mobile, no cables dangling around you.
2. It's future proof, whatever tablet you'll buy in the future it's going to be more powerful than the Oculus Rift. Powerful GPU, HD resolution, etc. You don't need to buy a special device in order to play, almost everyone has a tablet these days so you don't need to invest separately.
3. It's interchangeable with other tablets, so you can share it with your friends.
4. Price MOD EDIT: Discussion of pricing would be an advertisement which is not allowed on XDA
5. Because competition is healthy, especially in VR, and especially at this incipient stage. More indie producers, more views on the subject, more interest, more money pouring in. Oculus Rift was a simple ideea, like ours, at first, and look how far they reached.

The homescreen is ugly, but the rest of the OS is very elegant and simple. You guys should watch demos on youtube you will be blown away. MS said that there gonna be tight on OEM customization, but I think their still gonna allow some customization for OEM to stand out from the competition. i think also it is nice and clear - thats what i want - no overfilling with buttons and things from tabs and options on the "homescreen"
it remember me more of that TouchOne skin - where u move up - down - left and right to reach specific screens instead of using a tabsborder. people often forget that we use such phones also in cars and while walking - so we need a sure and failsafe surface with not to small buttons (at least less).
if anybody knows a good and fast! UI for Wm6.5 let me know - new sense is nice looking but still i search for something simplier to use/touch UI
First impressions...
It looks overly simplified, and more like an art project - or a set of 'design placeholders' that mark areas still needed to be finished in detail.
I question a lot of real-life interactivity with the device, it seems a little silly having the text of the hub cropped off screen.
It wouldn't surprise me if the the API's for this are very basic (aka. simple gadgets) - I have a feeling this isn't designed to run apps in the traditional sense.
Another Clip called GameKlip appeared on the Market for Android users (lucky ones). This one is one of it’s kind, seems that have a better *grip* and better security to avoid your expensive cellphone end on the ground with a broken screen or worst

This little horror of a stick has grown today to be called a dongle.
As I am impressed with the Excellent Rom created over at Freaktab
A creative mod as you do, has kicked this thing into place nicely I feel.
So what we have is
MK808B Pro is a smart Android stick
MK808B Pro TV dongle, comes with 4K H.265/HEVC hardware decoding Amlogic S905 Cortex A53 Processor 2.0GHz
Penta-Core Mali-450 GPU
Google Android 5.1 OS
DDR3 1GB RAM + 8GB ROM
Bluetooth 4.0
Support Miracast/DLNA
Support H.265 hardware decoding, Support 4K

And the good thing supplied with an AU power adapter Woo Hoo
Performance in its original state is pretty poor.
Gets very hot due to lack of heat sink only a piece of stick tin is supplied
And the Rom is a mess.
Wifi it's there fair i guess.
A bit of a creative hardware MOD and Excellent software it lives
Still some minor work to be done with the Rom as always,
This is the first public release rc1.5
The Unit itself is still being fitted to the casing
Thought i would give you all a first few hours look at what's going on
So the Mod is done just a small section cut in the grill to fit the heatsink
and things will be back together.
Some test so far
Rom also has been modified to handle USB to Ethernet Adapters
This device will be not an intense gaming device
Some simple, family fun type of games should do fine.
I have done a few test with Kodi 4k demo's so play smooth here.
Installed is Kodi 16.1
So that's it for Now

As the Under side of the PCB also Generates a fair amount of heat will also add some thermal pad and copper on the under just to help keep things a little cooler hopefully, all has to help.
Bit of a fiddle this day, raining outside time to do some refitting
I have left the wifi antenna out to wave in a breeze with a creative hole.
You can see on the Picture above, next to the TF card slot a notch in the PCB the Antenna Cable is folded thru, easy.
Bit of cutting and the Wife's nail file to smooth it out, and well its all good
A little rough but it's not a beauty contest.

It seemed like an impossible task. To get more the two audio channels into and out from the Pi over the GPIO header. Lots of people wanted that functionality but no one could work out how to do it. I decided this product would have the potential to completely enable and transform other peoples projects. Not only, that if it could be done on the Pi, it could be done on most other embeded boards. It would empower people by solving what seemed impossible. Beyond that, the outcomes for the developing world would be to put an ultra low cost multitrack recorder into the hands of people who otherwise may never be able to afford it - a sub $150 professional grade multitrack recorder. Who knows what people would invent with it !
I put together a plan and began hacking from paradigm to paradigm, making small incremental steps. It felt like I was building a rocket going to the moon for the first time ! No one ever thinks of low level hardware/software hacking as sexy, so it never makes the news
After months and months of struggling, first with purely analogue electronics, ECL logic and all sorts of tricks, I got really close. Sooo close I could sense the signals were going in the right direction - it just needed a little more. But that little more certainly wasn't going to come from analogue electronics alone. I had to change directions.
I decided to learn VHDL and started using FPGAs. On the weekends, whilst guarding my daughter's infant sleep cycles, I would read free range VHDL on my phone or laptop, gradually grasping this non procedural way of "the hardware". Finally after months, at the digital hardware level, I was able to get 8 channels of audio into and out from the Pi hat. Eureka! It is incredibly reliable. So functionally attractive and reliable that it had to be let out of the box ! And so it began ....
