Am I missing something, I don't get the notification light to flash when I get new emails with gmail app, it's ticked in the setting for it to do this, but it's not.
The Gmail app has the notification option ticked - although there is no specific option for notification lights in there.
Missed a meeting because my s3 was in my pocket and did not vibrate and i didnt hear the tone. Went to calendar -> settings and there is no "vibrate" checkbox in the "Notifications settings" section (like there was on my old galaxy s). I also don't have this checkbox in my text messages settings, but my text do vibrate albeit not with the default vibrate "tone" i selected. My phone is pure stock att no root, no rom only 3 days old. Anybody know how to have calendar reminders / alerts / notifications vibrate?

If you go in settings, then sounds, is the check box next to Sound and Vibration checked?

Yes. It does vibrate for calls and texts, just not for calendar. Also, it vibrates for calendar reminders when i set "silent mode" to vibrate, i just want calendar reminders to vibrate even when silent mode is off (meaning i want both a tone and vibrate). I've seen other posts for s3's that reference a "vibrate" checkbox on the message setting, but i do not see this text box so I'm assuming other s3 owners have a vibrate checkbox on the calendar setting that i do not have also - can anybody corroborate this for me?
This is fixed in the OTA update currently rolling out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31801294#post31801294
My GNex is running 4.2 now, and I've noticed that when the phone is on silent, the phone vibrates when new gmail messages come in. If I check the settings, it specifically says "Never" under vibrate settings.
Has Google changed Gmail's vibrate behavior in 4.2 so that Never actually means Sometimes?
Can anyone confirm?
I hope this gets fixed!

Yes, I have the same issue, for both Gmail and Calendar
It vibrates in ALL notifications. Someone knows how to disable it?
Regards!
Just a hunch, but I tried it and it worked. If you don't care about not having any notification for gmail (sound or vibrate) then set the notification sound to silent and vibrate never. Unfortunately you won't get sound if you want that, but at least it's not vibrating now.

I want to keep the vibration on for stuff like text messages, just not email. When I'm at work I can read my email on my computer, so I turn my phone to vibrate so that it's not beeping all day long. With 4.2, I've replaced beeping with vibrating. It's very annoying.
Google, never means NEVER!

This works for gmail, but not the email app that I use for my work email.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I'm having the same issue, and it's very annoying. I want to keep the image in the notification bar, but I don't want it to vibrate - like I had before the 4.2 update. I even tried toggling the notifications off and on and toggling between "only on silent" and "Never," but it continues to vibrate. I only want my phone to vibrate for text messages/google voice messages.
There is at least one bug ticket raised for this.

Star it to get it some attention.
Possible solution
Possible solution, for those of you who usually only run between sound and vibrate mode on your phone. Just go into the gmail settings and toggle the vibrate to "only in silent mode" you won't get a vibrating notification...
That's what I just set mine to do.

This didn't work for me. Always vibrates when in vibrate mode no matter what I have set. Funny enough, when I set the phone to silent mode there is no vibration even when it is set to 'Only in silent mode'.
I just hope this is identified as a bug and wasn't done on purpose. It's going to be an annoying few weeks while I wait for another OTA.
Any update to this? I'm having the same problem with text messages vibrating.
Same issue here. I have a custom 4.2 ROM flashed with this problem. I even tried reverting back to stock and reflashing. That did not solve the problem.
Same problem for me with official 4.2 OTA update, on a yakju galaxy nexus
That's no GMail bug, unfortunately it's a new "feature" introduced in Android 4.2. If you ar looking at the commits in AOSP, you can see it is a new system wide sound-to-vibrate conversion feature.
If you change the phone to vibrate mode, all applications which are playing notification sounds are then vibrating. Genious!
It should be possible to deactivate vibration therefor if you disable the notification sound in the specific app.

I want to punch whoever made this "feature" in the face!
I just got my Note 3 today and noticed that apps with vibration off still vibrate when notifications are received. Anyone else have this issue?
For those who might not understand what I mean:
When the phone is on vibrate mode, only the apps with vibration on are supposed to vibrate. However, the apps with vibration off are also vibrating.
I don't like this
Try to disable the vibration on the app itself and see what happens.
for me viber is doing this, even when set to silent I still have phone vibrate when receving messeges on viber and yes vibration is ticked off. I only fixed this via app info window>untick show notifications
Note 3 vibrate
I am having this same problem as well with my note 3. I have both my gmail and outlook app set not to vibrate, but when I put my phone on vibrate so it doesn't ring while I am at work my phone will still vibrate every time I get e-mail despite having vibrate un-check in both apps. It works fine when I have my volume on.
Now I can't turn vibrate off for notifications because I still need to be notified that I get text when my phone is on vibrate.
If anybody figures this out please do tell
Thanks,
An update on what I've discovered:
I took a guess that this might not be a bug but a feature (a really stupid one) and installed Android 4.3 leak on my old Note 2, which previously was on 4.1.2 and did not have this issue. On 4.3, it brings up this problem. Apps with vibration off will vibrate in vibrate mode. So I guess it is normal.. can anyone else with Android 4.3 on other devices confirm?
ALSO: The stock apps Email and Calendar do not do this. If vibrate is off, and the phone is in vibrate mode, then notifications from these apps won't vibrate.
Hi
My watch no longer vibrates when I get a notification or message. It's there if I look manually, but I don't get notified by it. It still vibrates when getting a call or a alarm, so the vibrate function is still functional.
Anyone have any idea what could be the reason?
Thanks in advance
Yup, noticed this too after updating to 5.1.1
This is happening to me too. I hope there is a resolution soon. Missed a meeting.
By design, the watch only vibrates on events that your phone would vibrate for. is it possible you hvae a setting on your phone that is set not to vibrate on messages for some reason?
Are these meetings in Google Calendar? For some reason Google turned of notification by default recently in Google Calendar.
- Go to calendar.google.com
- Go to Settings, Calendar tab
- 'Edit notifications' for your calendar name
- Add a Popup notification
Not sure why they turned this off by default. Pissed off many.
