After I put 4.4.2 on my tablet i suddenly had icons and folders disappear, the clock widget won't remain in the center and my page with 2 widgets side by side no longer fit. Anyone else seen these bugs?
Same issue here. Have three folders on the left of the launcher and two on the right. When I add a new folder on the right of the launcher button, it disappears when I reboot same goes for any widgets
Oh and it's not a 4.4.2 issue, it's the latest version of Google search that's causing it. Not affecting my HTC One.

Same here. I received my OTA the first day it was out. All ran fine until today. Some apps disappeared from the home screen and GEL was replaced with the standard launcher. After a reboot, GEL was back but the apps were still missing. I added the apps to the home screen again and rebooted. The apps dissapeared again and so did GEL. Seeing how I don't have anything important on the tab, I just reset it and so far all is good.
Yes, lost icons. Now only 5 wide. Like the DPI was changed. N7 2013 fully stock, no root.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
it's not 4.4.2 it's Google Search
Fortunately, I had a fresh backup right before Google Search changed the home screens AND fails to acknowledge "OK, Google" with a beep. The spoken search function still works, but there's no way to know it has engaged unless you're watching the screen.
I suggest you wait a bit with this update.....
Nexus 7 2013, stock, rooted, 4.42 (running well!), TWRP, Xposed, etc.....
Was using GEL when moving from 4.4.1 to 4.4.2 and all was well.
But when i manually upgraded the search to the latest version (per the link below from androidpolice) that introduced some landscape UI changes to fix overlap of searchbar & widgets, almost all my widgets / pages / icons resetted. Not a big fuss and simply a one time re-setup again. OK Google works as it should - no difference though. BUT what i realised was that with a reboot, the 2 icons to the right of the launcher would stay while the 3rd would always go missing. Obviously a bug that needs reporting and fixing. Will search on google support later and report it if it's not been reported before.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/1...s-and-changes-the-settings-icon-apk-download/
Overall it's all still going good. There's been so many updates lately from Google, it's great to see such a high activity on development, releases and updates in a software.
hi,
i'm also having the same issue this morning. when I turn on the wifi, my playstore automatically updated all my apps and after the update, my folders, shortcuts, widgets and other home screen was missing. I think it was reset. I'm using the google home (kitkat experience for N7) downloaded from the other site.
I will be following some updates and fix with this thread.
Thanks!
I am having similar issues after an update to 4.4.2. But for whatever reason the build still reads as KRT16S

I just had this happen to me today. Came home, heard my Nexus update a few things automatically, checked my home screen and everything was screwed up, only 5 tiles wide, switched back to default launcher then back to GEL, still a little screwy, but just have to put all my folders back together. Did fix landscape rotation with the search bar in GEL. On 4.4.2.
Thought I was going mad but reading this make me feel better. I only have five wide icons after 4.4.2 looks like the resolution has changed. Wonder if it is set to nexus 5 res?
Edit: Went back to standard launcher for GEL and it is back to normal. 6 icons wide.

Same problem here after Google search app update. Also, has anyone else had an issue with the camera icon dissapearing from the homescreen? Since the update issue everytime I keep adding the camera to the launcher bar it will disappear after I lock and unlock my N7...
It's not just the camera icon, the sixth icon on that row will eventually disappear regardless of the app it launches. Seems that it is trying to maintain the 5 across grid despite there being space for 6.

Confirmed, I had the same issue. Removed the Google Search update and everything is okay again.

Has anyone experienced this bug? I've seen it about 3-4x already. I can't pinpoint what's causing it. I think it might be due to the use of live wallpapers but I'll update if I can find the cause.
Anyway, what happens is when I wake up the phone, there will be ZERO icons or widgets on my home screens. There is absolutely nothing!
Also, when I open up the app drawer, there are no icons in there as well!
There are 2 ways to get it back to normal again. I can open up the task manager and open an existing app that way and then go back to the home screen. Or, I can reboot the phone.
Anyone else seeing this?

If you're still on stock and haven't unlocked your phone, I'd suggest taking it back to the store for an exchange... Without rooting, the only answer I might be able to provide would be temporary at best. Besides, if this is happening out-of-the-box (i.e. nothing done to it by the user), then you've been sold a defective product. What you're describing is not normal behavior for this device by any means.
Terminators run on Android...
This happens when a game or app uses alot of RAM (Deadspace, Shadowgun etc) but it should redraw I'd it doesn't its odd.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Just came in to say something similar happens to me, but its only temporary, and only one icon. I started a thread about it back in December, but didn't get any responses.
It usually happens on my phone when:
a) I install a new app from the market
b) I exit an app and go back to the homescreen
Scrolling to a different home screen will make it reappear.
This is the only 'bug' I've noticed on my phone, and I believe it is related to software. I'm not returning my phone because of it, I'm just waiting for 4.03 and hoping it gets fixed...
BTW, I'm on Stock 4.02 rooted (LTE)
same issue with a tablet
I'm having the same issue that you have described with an ASUS Transformer tablet TF101. The only way to recover is as you have described. I'm downloaded Beautiful Widgets (none active) and will remove, but as you've noted that it didn't resolve your issue, I'm not hopeful that it will resolve mine.
BTW, I ran honeycomb on this tablet since October and NEVER had this issue. I received ICS as an OTA firmware upgrade three days ago, and have had this problem repeatedly since.

Yeah ive seen this too, happens anytime a large ram heavy task just ocurred. I think google needs to tweak in an update.
Didn't know whether to put this here or in Q and A, so apologies if it needs moving, but I'm using apex launcher on my N7 so i can change the icons on my homescreen. I really like the sets that blackblearblanc does in particular.
I've noticed though that they all look pixelated on the N7.
Is there anything I can do to get them to crisp up, or should I be looking for anything in particular when looking at icon sets? A certain pixel density, size etc.?
Help, as always, is massively appreciated.
Cheers
From what I understand, Apex isn't compatible at this time. That might be part of the problem.

It's compatible enough. You can download from Play Store and all the features are working great. They're working on getting it better though.
Since Apex is mainly for phones the icons aren't usually designed to stretch to our screen size. They'll work but they might look a bit pixelated. I'm using Apex with stock icons to avoid the eyesore.
Try searching for HDPI icon packs. Those would be the best qualified(I think) for stretching out while still maintaining image integrity.

Im on 4.1.1, rom is Glazed, Apex Launcher with a CM10 theme (Cobalt i think). Icons are HQ and look fantastic
Thanks for the responses. I tested the chrome theme from the play store and found that the icons looked good but didn't fill the entire icon area. If I manually picked a chrome icon then it stretched and looked rubbish again.
Guess I'll have to wait for more hd themes and sets.

Better to download the beta from XDA, which has been updated to Jelly Bean. Or if you already have Apex, select Beta in Settings then check for update.

I bought 2 icon packs for my then 7" Coby tablet, from the Play Store. They worked well and all was good. Then a few tablets later, I tried them on my Transformer Prime...and they looked so bad they were unusable. So I emailed the dev, and he said my Prime is probably looking for XHDPI icons, and he doesn't support that now. So he emailed me the .apk and basically said to crack it open and resize the images in something like Gimp or PS, then repackage. I just unzipped the apk, and noticed mdpi, hdpi etc. So I manually changed each icon, grabbing the highest DPI images that were in the apk. Worked great, and I've used that a few times now on different themes. Just thought that may help you in the future
This may or may not be what you are looking for but this is what i did.
i have apex on my TF300, and i was using the ICS plates theme from the market. once applying the theme all the icons looked really nice, however, there were a few icons that didn't come over or that i wanted to change to another icon.
when lonpressing and manually editing the icon, i got terrible resolutions on the images when i "select from icon packs". however, when i "select picture" it still allowed me to choose from the icon packs and the icons come across crystal clear.
like i said, maybe not what you were looking for, but figured i would post my experiences just in case.

Hey everyone. Today I released a new version of my app, Tablified Market HD and I'd really like for you guys to check it out.
Tablified Market HD is the largest database of Android tablet apps. It is a curated list of apps that have been specifically designed to take advantage of the screen real estate of your tablet.
We've completely revamped this version with a brand new Holo interface. We replaced the aging list view with a beautiful, snappy grid view-similar to what the Google Play store offers. The UI itself was inspired from the Google Now cards.
We add apps constantly. Featured graphics are changes out every couple weeks and apps are added every 1-2 days depending on what we find. Remember, if developers don't make tablet apps, we have nothing to add.
I hope you enjoy my app!
Here's what's in version 4.4.1:
[NEW] Removed App & Prize sections until we fix the loading error
[NEW] Added exit confirmation prompt when pressing back button
[FIXED] In search results, back button takes you to previous page of results
[FIXED] After selecting app from the search results, pressing the top-left icon now takes you back to the results
[FIXED] In search results, the top-left button takes you back to the main app screen.

New update coming your way. I've introduced a new Similar Apps card. Now you'll be able to find more great apps with ease. Screenshot below:
Update should be live within an hour. More coming soon.

! WARNING !
This is Alpha version meaning app is in active development! It may contains lots of bugs and may damage your device! Use on your own risk! Always backup before using!
I'm proud to present you Tabletizer - one-click solution (someday in the future, more clicks today) to turn your phablet Nexus 7 in to a real tablet. It should work on any AOSP 4.2 based ROMs and original ROMs from Google. Your ROM should be deodexed and you should have TWRP/CWM installed. Root is not required
Installation:
Have your N7 charged to at least 30% - the process eats a lot of battery;
Reboot to recovery;
BACKUP!
Reboot to OS;
Install APK;
Run Tabletizer and tap "Run Tabletizer" button (WARNING! Do not rotate device until process is finished!);
Wait until !FINISH! message is shown or any error message appear;
If you see error - send me a screenshot;
If everything is OK - reboot to recovery;
Install update.zip generated in /sdcard/data/tabletizer/temp;
Reboot;
...
PROFIT!
Uninstall:
Reboot to recovery;
Restore backup;
Reboot to OS.
WIP.

AW: [APP] Tabletizer Alpha 4 (2013.03.02)
Works without problems on cm 10.1 latest nightly.
Just thought I should mention. Running the apk in landscape mode with full battery charge (not plugged into wall) caused the screen to timeout and the text of the process didn't scroll down. So now I can't see when the !FINISH text pops up. Figured I'd give it at least 20 minutes to be on the safe side.
How long does tabletizer usually take to finish the process?
Thanks for your work!
You are the man aux can't believe you got it working!! Gonna try it on aokp
My n7 took about 7-10 minutes to complete. I made sure to not let mine go to sleep (had the time out issue on his alpha3 version so knew better). Might want to add to the directions just to disable rotation and lengthen screen timeout.
Only oddity is it still goes back to default wallpaper (funky green grass) but that really affect nothing as you can then set the wallpaper as you desire after boot.
Excellent work, you da man!
On a side note, many status bar and notification drawer options in cm10.1 don't work, and tabletUI uses a different quick settings model so those don't work either. Please note, this is NOT a criticism of this mod or thought of as a bug. It is just an effect of enabling tabUI. To me I happily accept this trade off.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk 2
It worked and I got a tablet UI (I'm running cm10.1 nightly). When I open notifications and press the button for "clear all", it clears them all. If I press that spot again after the notifications are clear, I get "Unfortunately System UI as stopped".
Worked great for me. No fc's yet. Looks nice, especially with apex launcher in tablet mode.
Edit: It seems to shave a bit off the sides of app icons in both home screen and app drawer.

Anyone have any ideas?
I got the same thing since a few days ago. It is pretty annoying. Hope somebody can help.
Me as well. Everything has been fine, no new apps and all of sudden Touchwiz is crashing all the time. I'd really like to avoid nuking the phone again.
You say no new apps, but had you updated any? Mine seemed to start doing this after I updated apps. If it's not app updates, it would have to be the auto updating security policy patches. That's all I can think of.
Edit: and if we factory reset, it'll just happen again eventually, I suppose...

Touch Wiz is your homescreen, so yeah, it comes on your phone. It's uninstallable (without root) and in all my years of Samsung phones, Samsung has never released an update for it via the Galaxy Apps store. The only way it updates is through an OTA update (full firmware update).
The only things I can of your you guys to do is to try removing Widgets from your homescreen. The app associated with the widget could be causing an issue.
If all else fails, a factory reset will definitely fix this type of issue. I know from experience on older phones.

It's great that this post is here. I just bought my note 4 after owning the OG and Note 2. It has 5.1.1 and I'm with AT&T. I had no idea this was as locked down as it is.
However I too in the last 2-3 days have had TW FC on me. I was using TW as I wanted the Samsung experience. I have had Google Updates in the last couple days but no firmware updates.
I was just going to post my TW problem and trying Google Now for a launcher. It seems not to be as much as a resource hog but still getting some FC issues. I downloaded a Samsung app called Package Disabler Pro that lets you disable TW, Gear processes and lots of others without root. I feel with this and the Now Launcher battery life is greatly improved and there is much less lag if any at all. Just wanted to post. Wondered what others were doing for TW and lag?

I always use Nova Launcher, which may or may not be why I'm not getting the crash.
Has Flipboard or S Voice updated in the last few days? (I've disabled these apps via Package Disabler, so I don't get update notifications). Besides widgets, these are the only 2 other things I can think of that are linked directly to TW (Touch Wiz).

I already tried all the clearing of the touchwiz apps and setup my home screen again. It didn't fix the problem.
I have several apps disabled but I don't know why that would cause this. What's interesting to me is that multiple people are getting the same problem around the same time. This would make me believe that the cause is some sort of update of something, whether it be an app or other system file update like security policy stuff that updates itself "behind the scenes."
Looks like I might factory reset. It's getting bad on my end. I already have stuff backed up anyway.
Well I switched to Google launcher and I am now getting one that say Google has stopped gonna try to clear the cache see what happens

It's definitely weird that several people started having the same problem at the same time. I was hoping the cache/data clearing would help though.
Please let everyone know your results after a factory reset. I hate suggesting that since it's what customer service reps always suggest (they know nothing except what's on their computer screen), but I do think it'll fix the issue. As for what caused the problem in the first place: I'm stumped.

I decided not to factory reset yet and instead try to narrow this down. For me, I noticed that every time I rebooted, Weatherbug would force close, then eventually touchwiz would later on. Cleared everything on that app and the phone seems to be running much smoother, and so far, no force closes on anything for over an hour. Crossing fingers.
Does anyone else here use Weatherbug?
Started having the same issues recently.
Started having the same issues recently... just about a 4 o five days.... mu touch wiz don't respond and its freeze !!!
Crashing for me too.
I've tried everything to fix this error. Factory reset doesn't work. It has been going on for the last 3 days. The only apps installed are facebook, fb messenger and chrome. I'm guessing one or more app updates is causing touch whiz to crash.
I am finding it does not matter what launcher you use it will crash although mine seems to do it more when I am exiting Facebook
