Root Galaxy S 3 Using Mac - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Just received a new T-Mobile SGS3 with 4.3 preloaded. Any way to root it only using a Mac? I've tried several old methods including motochopper to no avail.

Maybe try this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2563955

That does not help me at all. This method still uses a PC. I need a method using a Mac.

You can use Mobile ODIN and still get the job done.

How can I use Mobile Odin without having root already?

Since you only need it to flash Recovery, it may work during Reboot. Try CF Auto Root otherwise.

Can't mac run a VM to run a windows or Linux.

Root without a computer?

I know it's possible to root *some* phones without a computer. Does anyone know if it's possible with the Hercules?
No! You need a computer

Wow...... well I guess that answers that one.
lol
Thanks
I think you can not root without a computer (because of all the ODIN stuff), but I guess ROMs can be installed using ROM manager. But using clockworkmod recovery seems easier.
You can't root without PC. Odin is the only way, my adhd girl can do this!

trolling?? or... just plain... nevermind
Rooting without a computer is the DUMBEST idea in the entire world. IF you screw up your phone, like most n00bs these days do, you will have NO WAY to recover your device without sending it in... not to mention no way to read XDA to discover what went wrong.

Rooting is not the part you need a computer for..
You need a computer in order to install cwm so you can flash the superuser zip

No need to install CWM from PC.
For this method you have to download 2 files (CWM.zip & SU-Busybox-Installer.zip) to you phone and you are ready to go.
Check method 1 on this thread -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746794

This is to give root access, but to gain the abilty to flash SU to gain root access, you need ODIN and a PC. On the T989, it the only way to flash CWM. To summarize, SU is the saddle, but whats really important is the horse, CWM

Yeah thats right, even you can get a horse without PC. There is app called mobile odin which makes this possible. You can flash firmware with cwm using that, mobile odin requires rooted phone, which we did using prev posts.
I have su access with cwm installed on my phone without imcrease in flash counter and yellow exclaimation at boot.
I am planning to install good rom on this. Once I do it successfully I will try to put small tut on it.

Isn't half the point of the ROM Manager app to install a custom recovery? If you have root access, you can flash CWM through it. It's literally the first action listed when you open it.

you could also have used a virtual machine or bootcamp or whatever else. as for OP, no at this point there is no way to root without a PC. Just find a friend that has one, or an internet cafe or something.

Heimdall is an open-source cross-platform tool similar to odin that is reported to work on linux. Options for linux are .deb binaries or sources you compile yourself.
You can also dd image files with adb.
Just because you can, doesn't mean you want to though. It's not hard to brick your phone using these tools.

No.
No... besides how could you flash anything in recovery when you need to push a custom recovery.img via pc? can't do that on a phone when you need root in order to flash a recovery from your phone. Only way to root without a pc is if there is a root exploit, like the Note 2 has, but the S3 doesn't have one as far as I'm aware.

No necessarily because you do have a stock recovery that allows you to flash a zip via update.zip

Is it possible to root without a pc yes, but I have no clue how it would be done and frankly I wouldn't want to do it. There were one click root apps available for certain phones at different points on the market but have no clue if there are any for the S3. I never used those though because at that point your completely dependent only on your phone with no access to your pc if you soft brick. If your going to use your pc in case you do soft brick then you might as well just use it to root also.

NO you cannot root without a computer.
But you can use Mobile Odin Lite and Odin flash the stock pre-rooted Tmobile T999 Jellybean v4.1.1
firmware using only your phone, here is the link for the firmware:http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390169635556426451
Here is the download link for Mobile Odin Lite: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1754368&d=1361632564
The mobile odin lite does the same thing as the Windows Odin does only it's easier and does not need a computer.
It's very easy to use, almost self explanatory and it installs like any other APK.
Good Luck!

Yeah, the reason i asked is because i have a Linux computer. Heimdall is all installed but it isn't working. Keeps giving me the same thing and its pissing me off. My first phone got dropped and got the inked all over the screen. Now i have a new one but no pc nearby to use to root it and it blows very very much. =(. Just want my root back.
