Hey guys. I have a custom rom running on 4.3 can I flash a 4.4 rom over it or do I need to do some kind kind of reset or preparation? Thanks!

Best advice is to backup any apps and data you want with something like titanium backup, then boot to recovery and make a nandroid backup, then wipe clean then flash ROM of choice. Then if there is anything you wish to restore from previous ROM use titanium, or however you backed things up. Note not everything likes to restore between android versions but most will be fine from 4.3 to 4.4

Hi, not sure if this has already been asked but I have a question...
I've got a stock rooted galaxy nexus yakju with 4.1.1 on it and wanted to know if I make a nandroid backup of that, would I be able to flash cm10 on just to play about on it and then go back to that backup I made of everything stock when I've finished playing about?
Or would I not be able to flash a stock nandroid backup?
Thanks

Yeah you can make a nandroid backup, wipe and flash a new ROM, then go back to your nandroid and the phone will be exactly as it was when you made that backup.
Thanks dude, this is going to awesome

You're obviously using a custom recovery. Just restore the backup you made before all this flashing.

I would just backup everything using your own recovery then flashing the stock firmware again and restoring your apps from the backup or if you want google now this rom has it working http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1836108
Use titanium back up to back up your apps. If on CWM 5.xx, use darkside super wipe, reflash stock rom or a any custom t989 rom. If help needed with flashing, explore the dev section for more info.

Do a factory reset. Just back up your apps before you do it.

Hey guys i have a problem for 3 weeks now and would love some pro advice.I glashed a slim bean 4.2.2 v6 around 3.5 weeks back and used it for some week and then wanted to change my rom to stock touchwiz just by restoring but it didnt as after installing almost all apps it said failed /data.
Now after that i tried to install moon rom but it didnt flash properly and in middle of flashing i went into cwm mode and by mistake instead of restoring backed up that rom.
Then after i installed hawkish rom and then omega rom v17 and in all roms i cleaned cache and dalvik and did a full wipe but still cant restore hawkish, omega or any other rom except slim bean.
Now iam not sure what is wrong but feel something coz of slim rom?
Any advice for me on how can i get this problem sorted.
Thanks guys for help.

I have the Epic 4G Touch. I'd like to proceed with rooting it and ultimately CM10. I'd like to back up all the random stuff that I've accumulated over the last few years of owning this phone before I do that. Titanium Backup is only for rooted devices, as I understand it. What is the preferred method for backing up a device before rooting?

You can root it without losing any data.

Ypu can also just use odin to flash the el26 kernel. Then go into recovery and make a nandroid. After that flash whatever rom after wiping. Then on your new rom use titanium backup pro to restore from nandroid. Choose your apps and the data and restore. Do not restore anything system.

If you haven't moved forward with yet you can also use Helium for your backup -- it is available in the Play Store for free and is one of the only suites that will let you backup apps and data without root. I think that it will require access to a PC for the non-root backup. Good luck!
I'm running slimbean 4.3 and cwm for recovery.. Can I just perform the normal steps when flashing a new rom and flash beanstalk 4.4? I've been told cwm won't flash modems on the e980 so will I run into any problems with that? if I want to go back to 4.3 rom I will be able to restore a backup, correct? any other info is appreciated. thanks
I have been able to flash back and forth and restore backups using CWM that I got from FreeGee. I haven't flashed any modems though. As always, YMMV
Edit: I think I've only restored one backup. I have flashed a lot this week...apologize

Confirmed: I just restored a 4.3.1 backup from a 4.4 ROM using CWM 6.0.3.7 from Freegee
