[Q] SGH-I747 with SGH-T999 Firmware? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Hi everyone, a coworker bought a used SGH-I747 and is having some trouble using it on T-Mobile so I told her I would try to get it going for her. It was sold as an unlocked SGH-I747 variant online, but I looked at the phone info on it and here is what it's saying:
Model Number: SGH-T999
Android Version: 4.1.2
Baseband version: T999UVDMD5
Kernel version: 3.0.31-1128078
[email protected] #2
SMP PREEMPT Mon Apr 15 11:59:10 KST 2013
Build number: JZO54K.T999UVDMD5
Under the battery it says SGH-I747
I would like to root the phone and get it operating on T-Mobile as well as possible. My main question is, do I use the root methods meant for the SGH-I747 or do I use the methods meant for the SGH-T999? Also, once it is rooted, what else needs to be done to make the phone as functional as possible for T-Mobile?
FYI: I have an SGH-I535, I have rooted about a dozen different phones, I have used Odin, I'm good with both TWRP and CWM recoveries, I have ADB setup already and can follow instructions without any problems (I just don't know commands off the top of my head).

Never mind, it turns out the seller just printed a sticker with the wrong model number on it and put an AT&T back on it. It is actually a T999.

[Q] I got a "Galaxy SII" from Boost Mobile USA, is... this that device?

so, I got a phone (model number sph-d710bst) from the Boost Mobile USA carrier. It's marketed simply as the "Samsung Galaxy S II on Boost", but apparently this phone goes by many names (Samsung Galaxy SII, Sprint Epic 4G Touch, Samsung Epic 4G Touch, Epic 4g, etc...). Basically, it runs on the Sprint 4G (not LTE) network because Boost is owned by Sprint, and it calls itself sph-d710bst.
Long story short, the stock rom on this thing sucks. The UI is atrocious, it has some USB connectivity issues, and it won't let me permanently suppress it's constant demand to be OTA updated (I can't accept because it will probably remove my ability to root).
So, I wanted to get cyanogenmod, or another good rom that has root, on here. What's the best way to go about it? Does root exist for this device? Is this even the right forum for this device?

you can root using cf-auto root on all stock roms, with the possible exception of FL24. In that scenario, you just Odin an older prerooted rom. In short, there is no reason to deny the OTA.
What firmware are you currently on?

oh, so the OTA doesn't remove the root exploits? that's good.
As for the firmware version, I'm not sure. I haven't rooted or otherwise modified this device yet, I just got it from the Boost Mobile store. (Boost is owned by Sprint and is a no-contract way to get Sprint service). Under "about phone" in settings, I have this data:
Code:
Model number: SPH-D710BST
Android Version: 4.0.4
Baseband version: S:D710.10 S.FI22
Kernel version: 3.0.15-981989
[email protected] #3
SMP PREEMPT Sat Sep 22 18:11:57 KST 2012
Build number: IMM761.FI22
Hardware version: D710.10
I used Exynosabuse to root my device: http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...ecurity-hole-demoed-and-plugged-by-chainfire/
Worked like a charm
I have the version from Virgin Mobile and installed a TW JB rom (jellyverse). I can't get MMS working on it though. I switched APN settings through ##data# and still nothing is working. Does anyone know the solution for this?

does exynosabuse also unlock the bootloader so I can put cyanogenmod (or similar) on my device? The stock rom on this thing sucks.
oh, and looking aroudn the forum, it looks like this device is easy to brick. What should I not do?

The OTA will remove the root exploit. I am saying that rerooting is super easy with cf-auto root and you shouldn't deny the OTA based on wanting to root.
You should take the ota and then root using traditional methods.

I believe you can flash1 any rom as long as its for the I900 and not from another company.there isnt a problem flashing down from 4.1.2 to 4.1.1, howwver I remember reading that say if u flashed to a romm that was 4.2.2 and u would need to do additional stuff in order to downgrade properly.. lab rats rom is a good rom just be sure sure before you flash anything to make a nandroid back up. Im currently running virtue (a). I love it and have been running it for awhile and thinking of trying a new rom..
Hope this helped.
The advice that I give is to just relax and take your time in reading before rom'ing. Now that you're rooted you can do all kinds of stuff to make your phone run better. Do a search for "root" in Google play apps. It will show you apps that only work on rooted phones. Also read read read the threads in all the note 2 forums. Rooted, rom'd and themed my s3. Rooted the wife's note 2. It's still stock and she loves it. BUT DO NOT FLASH A ROM THAT IS NOT MADE FOE YOIR VERSION OF PHONE OR PHONE CARRIER!
Enjoy
