Hello everyone. So, today I learned to use ADB (yay!) I installed MoreLocale (for whichever time...) but it still doesn't work the way it did. So, here come the questions:
1. Is it possible to add a locale (hidden by default - I downloaded Language Enabler, and it shows there are hidden languages) solely through ADB?
2. If yes, what is the command?
3. If not, is there any other way to add another language/locale?
P.S. As some of you might have mentioned, lately I've been basically spamming the forum. But there is only one reason for it: I want to make my phone as much Russian as possible. As soon as Russian will be added (not like now - only a few apps are translated), I'll stop creating new threads and posts.
P.P.S. I'm posting here for the reason that not each phone contains each language, and so it might be useful for everyone how to add a locale with ADB if it's possible.
Anyone? For almost a week no response?

I apologise if anyone has answered this one previously. I did do a surch, but the results have been pretty inconclusive, mostly returning threads that are asking the very question that I am about to ask, which is this:
Does anyone have an answer to the missing wallpapers problem that is affecting some Froyo ROMs? I have an unbranded and rooted Orange Desire, and have recently installed a couple of Froyo ROMS (in particular this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741775 and a similar one from Paul over at MoDaCo - I'm not a great fan of ROMS cooked to within an inch of their lives, and prefer to stick as close to stock as possible), yet when I go to Settings -> Personalize -> Home Wallpaper -> HTC Wallpapers they are all missing.
The wallpapers appear to be sitting in /system/customize/resource but the Home Wallpaper section can't see them. I do know that they were not in the /system/customize/resource location on 2.1.
Is there any way of getting them back so that they can be selected in Home Wallpaper?
I take it that's a "no", then?

Have you made any progress on this? I have the same problem.
regards
Same problem, i made some requestsin several forums and I don't have an answer
I had this problem with the rom from paul and had also posted a thread about this (also no reply)
Heres my post, giving the full background...I shall post the fix afterwards...
Hi Paul,
First of all, many thanks for the great rom. Its fast, stable, and has been a pleasure to use.
I do have one problem, however, and was hoping you would have a idea.....
I bought the phone from a third party phone shop in Madrid and it came with 2.1 installed. There was only English (german), English (Switzerland), and french language variants installed - no native English, and no Spanish languages at all shown in the languages menu.
(Bit of an oversight for a Spanish shop to buy phones without Spanish, but i digress)
I suspect that phone was imported from German/french region countries, and this does seem right as the box has german writing on it...
By default after installing the 2.2 rom from this thread (rooting beforehand and then installing the appropriate radio) there was only English (German), English (Switzerland), as with 2.1 - Exactly the same.
Originally I installed the locales list from this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...hlight=locales), cleared the Customization Settings Provider data, and after force closing had all of the extra required languages....Great. Result.
However, I noticed that all of the wallpapers were missing, although the live wallpapers exist. Odd I thought....I took a look using adb and could see all of the wallpapers in system/customize/resource.
So, I reinstalled the same rom again, as I was not sure exactly when the wallpapers had gone missing (when applying the locale patch, wiping the data afterwards, etc)...After installing the ROM again I could see all of the wallpapers
So this time I though I would ONLY clear the Customization Settings Provider data, and force close, without installing the locales list patch first.
I did this and I could again see the English languages, Spanish, and many more.
However, again, all the static wallpapers were missing. And again I can see them in the directory in adb.
Can you shed any light on why clearing the Customization Settings Provider data, and after force closing, causes the wallpapers to disappear, even though they are seen in the directory ?
All the wallpaper files are set up with the following permissions:
-rw-r--r--
If I use astro to look at the directory contents I can see the pictures of all the wallpapers, so they are readable from within froyo.
I am thinking that some cache needs clearing or something. I cannot see, however, what the customization settings provider has to do with the wallpapers !
I'm using live wallpapers at the moment but would like to choose defaults if possible. also if I want to sell the phone I would like it to work completely !
for the record I did install your rom a few days ago, did install the locale zip and it did show the wallpapers (although not initially - they appeared all of a sudden and I have no clues why). However, up to press, with the new install I did last night, there are no static wallpapers at all.
I could not see anything obvious in the logcat when entering the menu for the HTC wallpapers.
Kind regards,
James.
And the fix (well or me at least)...
1. reinstall the rom from paul, In used the non radio deodexed version (DONT REBOOT AT THIS STAGE)
2. installed the locales zip from this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...hlight=locales
3. reboot at last
4. You should then have the options for all languages (you might have already without the locales zip - but if not for installing the locales zip I would only have had the default languages as shown in my above post)
5. You should then (fingers crossed) have the wallpapers )DO NOT CLEAR Customization Settings Provider data as this is what appears to be what looses the wallpapers.
Now I´m not saying that this is the fix for you What I can say, however, is that had EXACTLY the same problem on pauls ROM after clearing the Customization Settings Provider data, with or without the locales zip
I have now performed the above twice and it worked both times -Just might remember NEVER to clear Customization Settings Provider data
You may of course not wish to use a rom such as pauls. However, I don't want bells a whistles (Actually tried a more customized rom before and found it to be slower)
Hope this helps,
James.

Hello all,
I need a bit of help
I've flashed and rooted the XXJPK as in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=790686
The problem I have is that after I rooted the phone I've done a not-so-smart thing
Without even thinking I replaced the "/system/app/Swype.apk" and "/system/lib/libSwypeCore.so" with the multi-language files from JP1 (from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7412595&postcount=73)
To my unpleasant surprise now Swype crashes
Goes without saying that -- in good old hacking tradition -- I didn't backup the original files first
So, the cry for help is:
1) Can some kind soul post the original (above two) Swype files in the XXJPK so at least I have a functioning Swype (even if it doesn't have the swedish language....)
2) Even better -- if a fellow swede (or scandinavian... ) that managed to get the swedish input in Swype in XXJPK, can you please post the files (apk / library) you are using ?
Thanks a bunch in advance for the help !!!
Moving on....
I've managed to find a Swype WVGA version with support for the swedish language (google: Swype WVGA svenska)
I removed the previous existing Swype-relevant files:
/system/app/Swype.apk
/system/app/Swype.opex
/system/lib/libSwypeCore.so
After a reboot I managed to installed the .apk version above.
The showstopper now is that I cannot switch to this input method: When I hold on a text entry field and selecting "Input Method" only "Samsung Keyboard" shows up (but no Swype)
Any input ?
(And applogies to the forum admins as this become off-topic for ROM development -- however, the fact that "Swype" is missing from "input method" should be vaguley relevant . Thanks for understanding)

I use the the JP1 file. You find the link to download on Swedroid. Its in the Galaxy S forum. Some thread about Q&A. Good Luck
It worked for me with JPK several times
I found the answer in the mean time (posting here for the record):
Under: Settings -> Locale and text activate Swype; change the settings as desired (language, etc).
Switch to Swype via the "Input Method" radio button selection when inputing text (tap and hold on a text input box).
Hope this will help others as well
Well this guy, DocRambone, most surdenly knows how to do it. Cause he did in his modded ROM, the superlite version. I just checked Swype settings again and it has swedish, danish, norway, uk, us etc. - all the languages are there.
Try out his ROM - so far it's working really perfect

I've looked thru most the threads on this forum, including the one above and with the exception of the homesyncwizard on that list no others that I'm concerned about are listed. Most of the apps listed on the attached thread I've already removed/renamed. Thanks for the reply.
Hi, I have a newbie question about android
Recently I've bought a new galaxy w. I've turned it on and figured out that it has a support of English and Malaysian language.
I'm a russian native speaker, so I would like to change a ui to russian language.
I mean not just being able to type sms in russian, but the whole ui (like application names, menues, and so on).
So, I would like to know how conceptually it can be done?
Is it just a matter of changing some locale related files or I need to install something?
Thanks a lot in advance

Hi, Thanks a lot for the answer and sorry for the late reply
I've installed this application, but it seems like it provides only partial solution.
I saw that some applications really were named in russian (like google maps and google play)
But it did nothing with menus and icons on the bottom of the screen (phone, contacts, and so on).
When I chose Settings -> Language I don't see russian language and I guess this is the problem. I understand that more locale application only changes the locale and its good enough for applications having internationalization support by themselves but it doesn't affect the whole UI language of the system.
The issue looks deeper than only installing the right locale.
Meanwhile I've read about different ROMs available. I'm still vague on details but can ROM installation resolve the problem? If so, what ROM should I install?
Some more details that can shed some light:
- I'm located in Israel and the phone is bought there
- Kernel version : 2.6.35.7-perf-I8150DXMLM3-CL1103265
[email protected] #3
-Baseband version
I8150DXLC1
- Android version 2.3.6
-PDA I8150 DXLM3 (to obtain this I used *#*#1234#*#*)
Disclaimer, I'm quite a technical guy (programmer with ~15 years experience) so stuff like rooting the phone and installing custom modes of os version doesn't scare me, I just only never dealt with android phones
Thanks a lot in advance
Hi,
After reading and learning a little bit, I've tried to root the device, but with no luck
I tried all 3 methods I've found
here
but no one didn't really work
I'm quite sure I did everything like it was explained.
In the first method it wrote me the the update.zip was installed successfully, but after the reboot the phone wasn't rooted.
I've paid attention that in logs (accessible through recovery console there are a lot of messages of type:
failed to open /sys/class/android_usb/android0/state - looks like its an invalid path.
So any help will be appreciated here
Thanks
OK. It looks like after a couple of hours I've got a root access to the phone.
Thought someone can be interested...
I've used the first method and it didn't work.
I've made factory reset (also available in recovery console) and then came across mounting option in menu.
So I've mounted everything I could there and then re-applied the update.zip. Rebooted the phone and now it seems to have a root access (I have a superuser application).
Now the next challenge will be installing the ROM with russian language native support (in android jargon "flashing" ) with Odin.
I've downloaded a firmware from sammobile.com. And planning to use this tutorial
And I believe I'll be happy with my russian language
Since my experience with this stuff now is impressive _one_ day, so
could someone point me whether i'm in the right direction at all?
Thanks
Install the latest firmware XXLM8, i think it support russian language via the tutorial how to install via odin, then u will need to use the first method to root the firmware again...thats all

It looks I did exactly as you wrote, and it worked great
I didn't find XXLM8 firmware on sammobile, instead I used XXLM6 which is also good enough for my needs.
Thanks a lot for your help, mohza!

Long story short - when I played with the tablet at store before buying I specifically checked the available system languages (in the Settings) and was able to easily change to any language. But upon buying tablet (Pro 10.1) and starting it up I can only see few languages available and no option to add more. Does anyone know how I can add additional languages? Answer would be highly appreciated as I intend to gift tablet to non English speaker and having native system language is a must.
Also looking for the answer. Apps which set locale and language dont work (without root anyway)
All right,
I found the answer and enabled all system languages. The good news is that the whole procedure took about 15 minutes with no glitches. The bad news is that the only way to do this is by rooting the tablet first. All the system languages are available in firmware but Samsung in their typical 'wisdom' decided to disable all but few that are prevalent in US. Other languages can be enabled via simple configuration file change but this requires ROOT access privileges. So you need to rot tablet first. I used the instructions at this forum in the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2661198.
For drivers I installed Kies and upgraded it to the latest version (I am using Windows 8.1 laptop and USB 3.0 port), I also loaded ODIN from the link for the 10.1 tablet. The whole process was very straightforward as long as you stay on the instruction path to the tee. One gotcha for me was that security pattern was not recognized after root, good thing I remembered PIN code. So I would advise to disable tablet lock screen security prior to rooting.
Once tablet was rooted and I disabled Knox with SuperSU, I downloaded market app called 'Language Enabler'. Language enabler simply lists all languages that Samsung supports and once you make selection of which you want to enable, it switches them on in configuration file. You need to restart tablet afterwards for changes to take effect. SuperSU granted this app root privileges and I was off to add more languages. Interestingly, when I first tried to only enable languages that I was interested in (Russian and Ukrainian), I did not find them upon rebooting tablet. Maybe it was due to the fact that Language Enabler listed multiple variations of them and not all were in the firmware. So if you try at first and can't find your language after reboot, just enable all languages and then see in the settings if your language shows up.
To finish up, I went to Samsung keyboard configuration and downloaded keyboard layouts for my languages.
That's all.
Here's screenshot of the Tab Language settings after modification:

Nice job. I'm having the same problem but at this time I don't want to Root to the tablet just yet. It is frustrating that while these languages are already pre-installed and taking up the space anyway, we cannot see them in the menu. It just doesn't make any sense to me.
Flash official firmware on galaxy tab t320 (for chg language)
I have the galaxy tab pro t320 (8.4"), and I would like to install, for the change the language in Italian, the official firmware Galaxy Tab PRO 8.4 SM-T320 EUR T320XXU1ANAI (Android 4.4.2 30.01.2014 NA26R1) found in the site techcrot.info/download-official-firmware-galaxy-tab-pro-8-4-sm-t320.
These are my questions:
1) This site has really official rom (i don't fount it in the samsumg site)
2) Is true that I can set the Italian language, with this rom (in the rom stock in the device are only English, French, Spanish)
3) The procedure void your warranty??
Thanks
