Is it possible to remove the special accented characters from the stock (4.3) keyboard? I didn't have this issue before flashing 4.3, but now almost every time I try to do a long-press when swyping I end up with a special accented character instead of the , or ( or : or @, etc. I thought that if I removed the language (like Spanish) they would likely go away, but I can't even find a way to even do that through settings. I am rooted and really not afraid to delete stuff via a file manager if someone can point me to the right files.
I'd love to know how to do this too. The special characters are killing me. I don't mind the characters like ! and @, but I hate the others because, like you, I keep accidentally switching to them.
Thanks for the confirmation of sanity. I was thinking I was the only one. Never did figure out how to do it but it's still bugging the crap out of me.
Me three! Anyone know how to do this?

You try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471321 I havent but did a little searching..

Never thought to search for the reverse (adding languages) as a solution, but it might just work. I'm on vacation and don't want to hose my phone, but I'll try it when I get home this weekend.
Delved into the suggested solution above pretty deep, but couldn't get those characters to go away even after removing what I believe was Spanish languages/characters from that configuration file. I rebooted with each change, but still no go. I suspect the problem is that we're not actually using the stock Samsung keyboard config, but are using some sort of add-on SwiftKey keyboard that is built in to the stock ROM. I think the config file that needs the edited has something to do with SwiftKey instead of the OS. I don't really like Swype so I might try the paid version of SwiftKey to see if it has a way to remove those chars but have a similar keyboard layout that I'm used to. Hopefully they won't even be there by default.
I have the same problem. I try to end a question with? But end up with ñ

Hi all.
When i spellcheck my emails, the spellchecker takes-up so much of the screen that i can't see the word that is supposedly spelled incorrectly. What that means is; I can't see what word I'm about to replaced with one of the proposed spellings.
Does anyone know how to make it so that the spellchecker allows me to see both my originally spelling as well as the list of proposed correct spellings?
Sorry if this is unclear. I'm happy to try rephrasing if need be?
Thanks

Does no one else have this problem? If I'm just missing something obvious, please tell me.
I use my TP2 for business email (as i'm sure most of us do) and I really can't afford to send messages without spellchecking. Given the issue i'm having, running spellcheck is extremely painful.
thx.

Yup, I have this problem too, noticed it last night.. together with the TAB key being missing off the keyboard... and the two locations required to switch in Delivery reports...
As for a solution, I don't know of one except getting rid of the touch flow... which im tempted to do - as once you get past the pretty'ness its "pretty" useless!
Alternate solution :
* To have both "Touch Flo 3D" and "the standard Windows Mobile menus"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GWE\Menu]
"CUIHandler"=dword:00000000
With the standard menus you see the text while spell checking, and you still keep touch flo (which I do find helps when using the TP2 as a one hand phone).

HarveyR, *thank you* for replying with that suggestion. I'm going to try that tonight and report back.
Harvey,
That worked like a dream... thanks so much!!
At the risk of looking a gift horse in the mouth; can you tell me if there's any way to resize the font on the "menu" now?
What i means is, when composing a new message, if i click the "menu" button, the font is HUGE which means i have to scroll vertically to see all the options on that menu. Do you know if that font can be set to something smaller? If so, how do i do that?
thanks again Harvey.

I'm torn between the overall aesthetic of the Gingerbread keyboard and the usefulness of HTC's autocorrect. I've used both extensively, and while the GBread keyboard is average with autocorrect, HTC's somehow turns even the most drunken gibberish into exactly the word I was looking for. Half the time I have problems trying to find something it CAN'T fix.
Is there a way to somehow sideload HTC's autocorrect genius into the stock's library? Alternatively, I guess, I could theme HTC's to look just like GBread but I like too many things about the usefulness of the GBread keyboard's layout. Really, I just want it to be as good/sensory as the one that came with the phone. Is the keyboard's prediction/correction stored in a .lib file that I can mesh with stock's or something?

+1 I'd love to know this too. Plus, getting the "user dictionary" to work on a GB keyboard.
I think you can make a user dictionary just by double tapping the word up in the autocorrect suggestions that the GB keyboard DOES have. It'll just say "tap again to save."

It does, but very occasionally I'll do it too fast (type a word, double tap) and realize that it's spelled wrong. Then, I can't go back in and change the word. That and every time I flash a Rom, I gotta slowly input all my spellings back in (I'm a hockey fan, so there's a lot of Bryzgalov, Kostitsyn, Kovalchuk, Ovechkin, etc). I tried backing it up on Titanium, but restoring it never does anything.
Oh well. I hope you get an answer to your question though (kinda using our conversation as an excuse to bump for ya lol).
But go to Koni's Elite Series III and check out the keyboard his rom uses. it's kind of like GB but still has a superior auto spell. Could be the best of both worlds if this idea doesn't work.
I have been using the new gesture keyboard and it is frustrating me that when I type swear words I cannot add them to the dictionary so everytime I use them I have to type them all out. Is there anyway to fix this?
If you go into:
Settings->Language & input->Personal dictionaries
You can select your personal dictionary and add words there.
I cannot add "F***" through this method. What do they think we are, bunch of kids.
I know there is an option to block offensive words, make sure its not checked. But i still think there are words you cannot store. Maybe come up with something else clever to say when you feel like cursing. How about "banana eatin cretin"?

I can add that word just fine. What is the actual error message you see?
If you go through the settings>language and keyboard you can add custom entries to the dictionary. I added a whole slew of filthy obscenities, and they come up just fine now via gesture typing.
Anyone wanna share lol? Can't be bothered to type them all in.

Ok so this is just an annoying pet peeve...but as one example, I often mistype the word "just" as "juat," and I've never clicked to save the word or have in my personal dictionary, but now the keyboard autocorrect stops changing "juat" to "just." Other words included are "thks" for "this," "garvage" to "garbage" and "lll" to "lol." To clarify, thks problem comes with the LG Optimus keyboard, it's not like the standard/stock ice cream sandwich one. Not sure exactly how to describe it...I included a picture.
Just wondering if anyone else had this issue as well...not a dire hazard but it's extremely annoying. If anyone has experienced this, what did you do? Again, these words aren't in the phones dictionary, they actually come up as spelling errors and are underlined in red while composing text.
Thanks!!

If you check Settings<Language and Input<SpellCheck, you could disable that. I believe an option to see the contents of your personal dictionary are there too. Just in case you accidentally added those words.
I myself am a sloppy typer, often missing letter in a word, so I've found that the stock 4.2.2 keyboard that Google offers in the play store, has a better correction engine. And it offers swype, which is convenient with our huge phones! I'd also look into Swiftkey as well, as that is also an amazing keyboard I've used with previous phones, although it adheres to a more rigid correction system. Just my two cents!

Unfortunately, I did not see the option for "SpellCheck" unless it is somewhere else. The issue I'm having is not with the personal dictionary, as I have checked in there and there is no entry for such words as "juat" and "thks." The issue is with the actual keyboard and how it corrects, because right now it is failing to correct some of these errors I make. The system does not recognize them as correctly spelled words, but the keyboard still lets them get through. Not sure if there's another remedy for this
does any one know how to export/extract Swype keyboard user custom dictionary ? or atleast to locate it/them on the phone ?
I want to migrate to Touchpal keyboard but I dont want to start inputtting all my words manually again. I already have a huge list which I have been building over a long time !
Touchpal keyboard is very nice and I highly recommend it to try it out if you guys dont know or havent used it they even have tablet edition by the way link
I'm also very interested in this topic. Nobody here with a hint how this could work?

I just sent an Support ticket to Swype asking if there's an option to export/import words of/to the user dictionary of Swype and additionally asking if there is a general problem with dictionaries bigger than about 1300 words. Swype worked miserable for me as my dictionary grew this big. I had to manually delete words to solve this probleme and I was quite a bit annoyed...
yes me too, I think I did contact them about a year ago. they said no. if they do help you let me know

The support answered me, that the export is not possible and thats really bad.
The import is annoying but no big thing. Just make an long txt file, one word a line. You can't import all the words at once, but if you mark about twenty of them and then long press the Swype key you will be pretty quick importing 1200 words - what I did in about 20 minutes or so.
