never not giving you my p6
P6 instead of your N5 or using them side by side?
I was all for getting the nexus 5 when it came out after having the P6 a few months, but heard bad things about the battery. On a full charge I get 2 days easily, sometimes more. Doubt the nexus 5 could match that.
I eventually got a hold of one in a shop last week and I was impressed, but after getting used to the thinness of the P6 i think i'll stick with it!
roll on january and kitkat.
I maybe could, because the lack of custom stuff on the P6

I received the P6, used it for couple of days, and I compared it to Nexus 5. So this is what I think. P6 is the Best looking and very high quality android phone right now. But it has some flaws with ergonomics. The sides feel very sharp and because of that it feels very uncomfortable in hands. I feel like I'm going to drop it all the time ( when trying to unlock the screen or take pictures). And the software looks interesting like mix of iOS and Android, but its slow very slow if I compared it to Nexus 5. I even updated the software to b111 and it got smoother but not that much, and I think right now if I wait for Huawei to upgrade the software to make it more smoother its still is going to have glitches. Something is wrong with the processor or the GPU. So I decides to return it . thank all of u for replying and answering some questions. But its better to own the device and use it yourself to know which is better for yourself.

Well clearly it wouldn't be as smooth as the Snapdragon 800 powering a kitkat, on the Nexus 5. The CPU and GPU are no comparison.
But compared to other launcher skins coming on devices of other brands, the launcher is impressive and smooth enough. The b111 rom you used was 3 months older and there was some newer roms that provide better speed, but nonetheless it wouldn't be equal as the Nexus 5 as of yet, although i haven't used a Nexus 5. Hopefully the Kitkat+emui 2.0 upgrade coming January would provide better performance in terms of UI and daily usage.

Hey guys,
I am looking at getting a new phone and my requirements were:
1GB RAM
4.3+ inch screen
720p display.
The Galaxy Nexus caught my eye as it has all those things. I don't have a huge budget (£150, or €175, $225)But I am slightly concerned. Firstly because it is an old piece of kit. Now, that doesn't bother me if it performs well and gets the latest updates, but that's what I am worried about. Secondly because of Dev Support. I need a phone that will be supported for at least a year.
Please tell me what I should do. I am willing to buy a used device. If you think I should get something else, please let me know as to what device you are thinking.
Thanks!
Don't buy this phone.

Extend your budget go for a Nexus 4 or maybe wait for the next Nexus. Galaxy Nexus is a great phone but let's face it, it's been around for a while... And I doubt if it'll get official updates for the coming year
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
If you want it, then buy an extended battery with it and IMHO one should also buy the charging port flex board which may stop working anytime.
Whether or not it gets official updates, it will receive the custom ROMs. But then again why would you go for a 2 year old product?
Get the n4 or the n5 when it releases
Get the s4 or wait for new nexus at end of year.

Go for nexus 4.....though I'm not saying that Galaxy Nexus is not good, but it has now become somewhat old and won't get support from Google as Nexus 4 will get. Though you always will have support from the custom ROMs....but not stock ROM from Google itself.....so go for Nexus 4 rather than GN.

Okay, popular opinion suggests that the N4 is my choice. Is there anywhere I can pick it up within my budget?
Thanks!

The n4 is old as well, considering the new nexus will be out in a few months, the n4 has been a blunder from day one an forgotten about due to its terrible launch an unavailability, so people just decided to boycott it an skip it altogether, lg have even said themselves it wasn't on the list of priorities to get that phone out, I don't think google would bother asking lg a second time to make another nexus with that kind of poor effort or attitude.

So here I am.
I have been watching a load of videos comparing it to Samsung flagships, HTC flagships and some weird devices made by a fruit company. The hardware has EVERYTHING I want for my upgrade. Almost double every spec to my current phone. My only concern is updates. Does this device have 4.2.2 Officially? Will there be 4.3 and 5.0 for it unofficially, if not officially? I need it to last for a year.
If you can answer my questions, I will be extremely grateful. My other option is the Xperia S, but it costs too much, bigger camera then I need and no official 4.1
Thanks Again!
Android 4.2.2 is officialy suported on the galaxy nexus and 4.3 will normally be that too but for 5.0 nobody knows.
And yeah I love the phone and it's getting old but it is still a good phone

I bought mine a few months ago for exactly the same as your budget and I am more than happy with it yes it's old but not everyone can afford to get a nexus 4 and to be honest it's a bit to much like the iPhone with it's glass back the gnex gives you plenty of bang for your buck IMO

If you don't need the good cam, HDMI and so on, go for a GNex. As far as dev support's concerned there's no need to be worried, even the Google Nexus S (maybe the WFS too?) will get Android 5 (unofficially).

Love at first touch!
My first Nexus device and I'm really liking it do far. I must admit I do miss some of the functionality of Touch Wiz. But this tablet is a beast and a feast for the eyes. Really looking testing the multimedia capabilities of the tab.

I've been using the ipad3 for a while now and its very responsive in a lot of ways, especially when using chrome. My galaxy s4 seem a tad bit slower on the touch in chrome, so I'm hoping the nexus 7 would be as good as the ipad while using chrome or other browsers.

Any Nexus 4 users who tried or switched to the Ascend P6, would recommend which one of these two phones should one buy ?
We have the Nexus 4 and I also have the P6. It all depends what you want - the Nexus 4 can now be had for £159 sim-free and the P6 is £239 sim-free. The Nexus is a bit faster & smoother, but the P6 just feels & looks much nicer. I wouldn't swap the P6 for a Nexus, but for £159 the Nexus is a hell of a phone....

That's a tough call. But i taught the P6 was pretty smart enough from reviews like this :

Besides the better working processor and NFC function, in what way would you say the Nexus is smarter ?
Im only just referring to the CPU and GPU which really favors the nexus, but the P6 is still decent on those department.

Yes that seems to be the common review that the P6 CPU and GPU performance is not as good as it is supposed to be specs wise. Would some firmware upgrades make it better or is it hardware problem ?
Im still confused about buying the P6. I was close to buying the Nexus 4 and then from yesterday im close to buying the P6. And today i have come across the Xperia ZR as another contender. ughhh :silly: The Xperia ZR seems to be its biggest competitor rather than the Nexus (except in terms of Nexus recent drop in price).
There is also talk of LTE version of Ascend P6 coming in last quarter of the year and makes me wonder if i should wait for that. Does LTE version imply hardware improvements ?

well its not really something you can call a "hardware problem" its just that the cpu and gup on the nexus 4 is faster, thats it.
im not really into heavy gaming in phones, so it really depends on what youre looking for.
i was looking for the slimmest, compact, premium feel and most "smart" smartphone out there and overall the p6 just fits the bill, atleast for me.
I have the N4 and P6 - I have the P6 as my daily driver. Both are great phone, but the P6 just feels and looks better than the N4. The only I missed about the N4 is the Google navigation. P6 have a quirky GPS and also doesn't have the Google Text-to-speech engine, so the voice navigation sounds awful.
Where is the nexus 4 at £159? IN the UK?
Thanks

BTW The iPhone 5s has a 640p screen I.e. not even standard HD which is 720p and the S5 is 1080p so I hope it looks better. I never understood iphones 'retina' anyway. To me it's more of a marketing ploy but I digress.
The N6 isn't really confirmed or even leaked so we may not know until right before a possible release. I would stick with the G3 and or read through the topic I linked above.

I've had almost all the NEXUS phones, the last two really didn't impress me at all. Too much compromise in the software for the "pure Android" experience. It might have been cool a couple years ago when manufacturers would bloat the phone down like crazy, well... Samsung's TouchJizz is still a major offender but other manufactures have really slimmed and optimized their UI's while adding a ton of useful features. It's now to the point where I feel pure Android is lacking way too much. Also I never had a good camera experience nor good battery life with ANY of my Nexus phones. It also seems like Nexus devices uses lower end components to meet their price quota, lower quality LCD panels, lower binned CPU/GPU's that thermal throttle like crazy, mediocre camera sensors, small batteries ect...
No more Nexus phones for me, unless they release something really extraordinary but I really doubt it with their budget price cap. After owning both the Nexus 5 and G2, it was incredible how much better the G2 was in everything from software, battery life, screen quality and camera. The G2 just seemed way better engineered and thought out, sure it was "almost" twice as much off contract as the Nexus 5 but this really was a case of "you get what you pay for".
I came from the Nexus 5 to G3 couldn't be more happy! Had enough of terrible battery life from the Nexus 5, will not be getting a Nexus phone ever again.

Agreed, I was also pretty unimpressed by both the Nexus 4 and 5. So the OP should just go ahead and get the G3 now. Then he can wait for the N6 release, and when everyone and their mother has reviewed it to death and found any faults, he can then proceed by selling the G3 and buying the N6 if he think it's worth it That's my plan anyway.
i have the n5 as well..it wont last me not even 2 hours...just using instagram snapchat..texts and facebook..sometimes browsing..ive had the n4 before and i dont think i will get the n6..as far as i heard..it is going to have a 5.2 screen..no sd..no ir blaster..the battery will suck..non removable battery it will probably not top out the g3

Iv seen a Nexus 6 on Craigslist for $600. Im thinking, my G3 is everything that is. Im running Lollipop fast and stable. The display isnt as big but 6" is too much for pocket
Resolution and pixel count are on par. Ram and Rom is on par, plus I can add micro sd and change battery. I love my G3 and Im on freakin Verizon. G3 is the best phone out right now....
A thought has just occurred to me.
The recent Nexus 5 rumours led me onto a thought train. According to some of the rumours we're seeing, the new Nexus 5 may well be, to all intents and purposes, a slightly different G4, with added fingerprint scanner and USB Type-C. The rumoured specs seem to show they share the same SoC (Snapdragon 808, Adreno 418), same RAM (3Gb), same camera sensor... etc.
Theoretically, if the new handset was to share these specifications and come with stock Android (as previous Nexus devices have done), would we be able to port that ROM across to our own devices, to essentially give us stock Android (obviously with work to unlock bootloaders, or a workaround)?
Nope! Not gonna happen. Nexus 5 x will be an affordable midrange device.
