**Edit: Solved, post #3 has a guide on steps taken to solve this issue**
I've been looking around the forums the last couple days trying to figure out how to upgrade my phone to the latest 4.3 and I seem to be stuck in my efforts.
Currently my phone is Android version is 4.1.2
Baseband: L900VPAMC2
Build #: JZO54k.L900VPAMC2
I'm guessing this is MC2, however, all the versions of MC I've seen on the forums so far are 4.2.1? I've tried to flash a MA7 to MC2 with no success, as well as using the Back to Stock located here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086769
I've used the back to stock rom before, and it was the last rom I flashed, actually, and it brought me to my current version.
I installed the latest TWRP on my phone, just to see if that allowed me to flash the current 'back to stock' but had no success. I am just looking for advice on how to proceed to upgrade my phone to 4.3 (as all the instructions I've found so far tell me to flash the back to stock rom, which I cannot).
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
For the millionth time...use Odin! I've posted a link to it in my Dropbox account in a few precious threads or you can get it from Sammobile. I dunno why so many people are fudging around with custom recoveries and different rom files when all you need is the MK4 firmware and odin... wipe data and cache after odining and I guarantee you you'll be fine.

Okay, this worked for me.
Just a helpful guide for people also stuck in my boat:
Sammobile does not currently have the firmware for SPH-L900 as hotfile is offline or whatever. So I finally found the file ecs87 mentioned in his dropbox, located in this thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47926347&postcount=20
Next I downloaded odin, choosing the "ODIN v3.09, v3.07, v3.06, v3.04, v1.85, v1.83" option, from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2189539
*EDIT* Also, you need to install your phone drivers. I had them installed already so I skipped that part. I believe you can get them from installing Kies, but not 100% sure. The guide linked in step 6a has a link to drivers, but not 100% sure if those are up to date, or working, although I'm fairly sure those are what I used a year ago if I'm not mistaken!
Steps I took as follows:
Step 0: Unplug your phone from your computer, get into download mode. (Power off, hold volume down + home button, then power button, and keep holding until a screen pops up saying caution blah blah blah, next hit the volume up key to put your phone into download mode)
Step 1: Unzip the L900VPUBMK4_L900SPTBMK4 file you downloaded from ecs87's dropbox account.
Step 2: Unzip the Odin download and choose version 3.07 (not sure if others work, but that one worked for me!)
Step 3: In Odin, click on PDA, and browse to the L900VPUBMK4_L900SPTBMK4_HOME.tar.md5 you unzipped in step 1
Step 4: Plug your phone into the computer via USB, making sure you are in download mode!
Step 5: Click the check box next to PDA if it isn't already checked.
Step 6: Make sure on Odin it says something like 0:[COM3] (Com3 was for me, you might be different), and make sure the color is blue
Step 6a: Follow these instructions for pictures if you would like as well! http://tinyurl.com/odinguide
Step 7: If the box is blue, and you've followed this guide correctly, click on start, and it should go though all the steps and you'll have 4.3 installed!
Hopefully this helps anyone who was stuck like me!
Also, thanks again to ecs87
Oof! I totally forgot hotfile got molested by big brother. Looks like I'm gonna need more Dropbox space to archive as many firmwares as I can lol. Glad it worked out for you and thanks for posting the Odin tips. I forget there was a time where I didn't know how to use Odin :-X

Been seeing a lot of post about how to install OTA with a rooted stock ROM. This is by far the easiest way for people to update and not lose any data. All are done using Odin 3.07 on Windows 7 and not going to link it or how to use it lots of tutorials out that show you.
To put in Download Mode -> Vol Down + Home + Power
To Boot into Recovery -> Vol Up + Home + Power
Things needed:
ROM
CWM-Recovery
Root zip file
ROMS
NOTE: These are the FULL firmware of LH1 and NOT small OTA. This is good to have as a backup should something go wrong.
Bell
Telus
Rogers
Sasktel
CWM-Recovery
See Attached, this is an Official CWM from CWM team. If you don't want to use this use whatever recovery you want or had before.
Root: MOVE THIS TO PHONE STORAGE
Chainfire SuperSU
1.) Boot into recovery and create backup, always better to backup
2.) Unzip firmware file and you will see 2 files a dll and md5. The one we need is the md5
Im with bell so mines is -> KIES_HOME_I747MVLALH1_I747MOYCALH1_20120814.100513_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5
3.) Put phone into download mode
4.) Load Odin select PDA and select the firmware file you unzipped in step 2. The MD5 file.
5.) Let the phone do its thing and do not touch it until you are at the lockscreen.
7.) Boot into download mode again and select PDA and this time select the recovery tar file
8.) Uncheck F. Reset and flash
9.) Once back on the lockscreen go into Recovery and install the CWM-SuperSU-v0.96.zip to root from phone storage.
10.) Get Triangle Away from here and reset counter.
Excellent guide with links thanks

Instructions are in his OP. I have pasted below:
7.) In Odin: Boot into download mode again and select PDA and this time select the recovery tar file (he has attached odin flashable cwm tar in the op)
8.) Uncheck F. Reset and flash
After that you will have CWM. Go to step 9 if you want to root and install SuperSU.
I already updated via Kies and of course now lost my root. If I follow this method (now, after the update) will I get root back or is there another method you guys would recommend? Thanks

You have essentially completed steps 1-5 above using Kies. Go to step 7 (6 is missing) and follow instructions to flash the CWM tar file attached in OP via ODIN and the supersu zip via CWM and you are done.
I was about to follow the video guide found in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1728824 which shows you how to root and install CWM without tripping the flash counter. Can I follow his installation instructions, but instead use the rooted stock Telus rom linked to in this thread? I assume that if i follow the guide in his thread and use the files he links to, I will end up re-flashing the stock 4.0.1 rom instead of the new 4.0.4, which I want to keep.
Plus I want to have CWM and not trip my flash counter so I dont need to bother with Triangle Away.
This is my first time rooting or flashing anything to my phone, so my apologies for my extreme n00bness. Thanks

If you use the rooted ROM in the other thread you will have that version and not the August LH1 update, remember the ones i linked are full stock firmware. Maybe someone will create a stock rooted flashable odin tar, but you really dont need it. Just flash using the above steps and use Triangle Away. Triangle Away although dangerous does no harm at all, its a simple apk file that installs like any other app, once you confirm it is displaying the correct model (our is I747M) then just hit the reset counter and let it do its thing and then you can uninstall it simple as that.
No point in waiting for someone to create a no trip counter file because that is much hard to do. Plus the only reason I think the first ones where like that was because Triangle Away did not fully support the I747M.

The thread for the no trip method referred to in that video is here. The OP in that thread is still working on root injected versions for the new Canadian firmwares, the ones currently in the OP are the old versions. He can create them quickly, I think he is just waiting for volunteers to mirror the files. Keep checking and when you see a Telus version up ending in LH1, you are good to go.
Thanks OP, that works just fine to reroot my phone and reset the trip counter!
I have a rogers Galaxy SIII if that could help anyone!

A little easier guide to get root?
Hi, I made this easier a little bit. Follow the posted guide from the op
Download your FW and Odin 3.07 (and ofc sammy drivers and what not)
1.) Boot into recovery and create backup, always better to backup
2.) Unzip firmware file and you will see 2 files a dll and md5. The one we need is the md5
Im with bell so mines is -> KIES_HOME_I747MVLALH1_I747MOYCALH1_20120814.100513 _REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5
Click to collapse
Then
8.) click start, wait for you to go back to lockscreen.
9.) Flash the zip attached below (through your CWM) (vol up+ power button+ home button to get to recovery)
[BOOM you have root!]
10.) get triangle away, reset flash counter.
I did not make the zip i just got it from searching around.
Hello xda,
I tried rooting my SGH-T999 and it took a while so I unplugged the USB and restarted the phone. Phone keeps saying it has encountered a problem with the current firmware, connect to KIES and select recovery. Kies does not connect to the device. I read on xda to reflash using ODIN. I have ODIN v1.85 from trying to root, is this the right version to use because I also found the ODIN3_v3.07? As far as USB driver, is there separate drivers for ODIN or are people referring to the Samsung Kies drivers (I just installed KIES). I read to do it on this screen and I also read to try to go into the recovery mode (holding vol down, home, power) and then reflashing; which should I do?
Also, I found this link on xda for the T-mobile firmware ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949687 ). No idea which one to choose, why are there so many, I am currently downloading the latest one
"UVDLJA
PDA: T999UVDLJA
CSC: T999TMBDLJA
Version: 4.1.1 JB
Date: Nov. 14, 2012
Sammobile Link
Samsung-Updates Link"
If I want to use the pre rooted file do I need to fix my problem first and try flashing with stock firmware or can I try to fix the issue directly with the pre rooted firmware?
Re: [Q] SGH-T999 Rooted bad, phone stuck on start screen
Use the Odin from my signature.
You can probably just flash mrRobinson's stock rooted rom to fix it. And Kies is garbage. Uninstall it.
I would like to see the root guide you used as well.

Before I try to flash with mrRobinson's stock rooted rom which I just finished downloading, I will uninstall Kies and install the USB drivers first?
Thanks for your response Aerowinder.
I got USB drivers earlier today that was a newer version but I will be using the files from your sig since it works :good:
Another question I had was, does the phone need to be in download mode or can I do it in the screen where it says "encountered problem with current firmware. Connect to KIES and select recovery" screen when I flash with Odin? I know normally I would have to be in the download mode but I'm wondering if it is the same when I am getting this error.
Re: [Q] SGH-T999 Rooted bad, phone stuck on start screen
Phone must be in download mode to use Odin.
The drivers in my signature are not the newest, you are correct. They are the last version I found that work without any issues. The newer ones pretty much suck. Constant disconnects mainly.

So I am watching the root video on your sig, so in my case I would choose the rom I want for the PDA instead of the cwm-touch-6.0.2.3-d2tmo right? Should I extract the rooted firmware or just load the zipped file onto ODIN PDA?
Re: [Q] SGH-T999 Rooted bad, phone stuck on start screen
Root66 does not contain a recovery so you still need to flash one of those but don't use my link. Get ROM Manager once you're up and running.
If you don't care about the flash counter you can flash the tar in my signature.
Sorry to interject here but you can get an Odin flashable recovery from here.
You can flash one of these and then flash Root66 right after and you'll have stock Rooted ROM with stock or custom recovery (your choice).
Not to be a buzzkill or anything but you are probably the 5th or 6th person in the past 2 weeks that have encountered the "encountered problem with current firmware. Connect to KIES and select recovery" error. Only a few of them have been able to pull out of it. The ones that have, have had to flash Root66 (or their device respective FW) multiple times.
I hope that you can get out of it and please post here if you do. Aerowinder knows what he is doing. Follow his lead.

Okay I don't care about the counter, I just want my phone to work and I'll be happy.
But now I'm getting a little confused about the cwm recovery.
So just to be clear, you are saying I need to flash a recovery (cwm-touch-6.0.2.3-d2tmo in my case since I don't care about the counter), BUT do I flash the recovery before or after I flash with Root66 firmware? That part I am confused about. And do I flash one right after another or do I need to restart my phone or ODIN first?
Thank you so much for helping me out. I was freaking out this morning and I am very grateful for your help and knowledge. I hope I am not being too much of a pain or hassle with these questions. Sorry that I am quite new to this

Woody, I went to the link you posted. What are the 4 files for?
Don't use those - they are older versions.
If you don't care about the counter, then flash the CWM in my signature using Odin (can provide TWRP tar link if that's your thing), then flash root66 using Odin. You can reboot in between... but no real reason to do so.
If you are still having issues after you flash these, drop into recovery (vol up + home) and reset factory defaults. If still having problems, only thing left to do is flash a full stock image, link also in my signature. The page you linked to does not contain the newest version because DocHolliday hasn't been around here much lately.

I will take a look at the link Woody.
I am really hoping this will work on the first try!
Okay so from reading your post Woody I can use EITHER the TWRP and CWR, but I want to use the one that is easiest to use. Which one do you guys think is easier to use?
Also, SU3.3 or SU1.04 which one should I use? Aerowinder, your sig shows both now but earlier I didn't notice the SU1.04. I just realized I only need the SU file IF the prerooted file doesn't work but just in case it doesn't I guess it is better to know.
Draw straws. I use CWM/Superuser. I use Superuser because CM comes with it. AOKP comes with SuperSU... both work fine. Just make sure you use the ones from my signature, as they are newer versions. You won't need su if you get a prerooted rom, only for stock.

That's the attitude, with Android you have to be a sponge and try to learn as much as you can. A single Google search will give you the answers you seek and making a backup is pretty much universal no matter what Rom, phone you have. Good luck

Hello all. I have posted this problem/question before but received no help. So im posting it again. I recently rooted my S3 and installed cyanogenmod and decided I like touchwiz so I decided to unroot it. So I installed triangle away to delete any traces of root and the process was completed nicely. Then I flashed a stock rom that I downloaded online. Then I did a stock factory reset. But it doesnt feel right. There are slight graphics glitches with opening some apps. Like opening facebook messanger will display white and black lines untill it loads up. I tried the whole reinstall thing and no help. There are other similar glitches. Can anyone help me? I want my s3 fully stock like it was straight from att.

I would try another file download location (which you did not specify where you downloaded from). You might also try and redownload and ensure to do an MD5 check. Of course this means factory resetting again and ODIN.
If nothing else, download rooted ROM from Mr.Robinson's post and unroot it. This will keep your flash counter as is.

Follow this thread for downloading stock roms: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1968625. After unzipping most should end with the file name .md5. ODIN will do the md5 check automatically for you. Just pay attention to the prompts.
If you find that this does not work, go here and download rooted rom to be flashed via ODIN. You can then remove root.
If the file is not ODIN flashable with an md5 at the end, look for a long string of digits and letters that should be right by the download. A good example to know what I am talking about is to take a look at the site for rooted stock roms. Notice the md5 under the Old image AT&T file download link. Download and extract this file and follow the directions.

I tried Mr. Robinson's rooted stock rom, and it has the exact same issue.... Is it all just in my head? Please do help. My S3 isn't perfect anymore and i'm really OCD about it. I regret ever rooting.
I have FL24 on my phone. I also have downloaded and installed SuperSU Pro and the phone is rooted. This is as fas as I have gotten. I am trying to change my rom. I saw one with some cool features from QBking77. I am extremely new at this and was wondering with the following info can anyone help me to find a good rom to change to. Also do I need to download a recovery app? Is my phone rooted gingerbread or Ice Cream? I have downloade Clockworkmod also and have done a back up. I also downloaded Blu Kuban files just in case I am on the right track. here is my info
Samsung Galaxy Sll Sprint Epic 4G Touch
SPH-D710
Android Version - 4.0.4
Baseband Version - S170.10 S.FL24
Kernel Version - 3.0.15-1173404
Build Number - lMM76l.FL24
Hardware Version - D710.10
I hate to be the d!ck here, but if you don't know the difference between GB and ICS based on at least the version number, you are obviously not ready to flash a ROM. I can see that you have done some research, but it is the wrong research. You are speeding through and not taking the time to soak up the information. Go read the stickies in the General, Q/A and Development Sections. They have plenty of information. Trying to save you from a brick.

OK, first things first. You're already rooted so thats a step in the right direction:thumbup:
The next thing you'll want to do is grab a safe ics recovery, my personal preference was always Agats FI27 repack. You can find these in the development thread in one of RWilco's Repository threads. You'll want the Tar file and will need to flash using either PC Odin (Google Odin.exe) or mobile Odin (found in play store) flashing instructions for both methods can be found in multiple threads, or by google search.
Next you'll want to go to the OP of the ROM you've decided on. READ THIS ENTIRE POST. I can not stress this enough. You want to make absolutely sure you understand and follow the instructions provided for a successful installation.
After you have flashed your new recovery hold power and volume up (keep them pressed) until you enter recovery, choose install from sdcard, navigate to where your downloaded ROM is and flash.
Reboot and enjoy
If you need anything else feel free to pm me:thumbup::beer:

Thanks for the help, but I think you are being a little harsh. If you go get a drivers licence, you are not required to know how to build the engine. Maybe I was moving a little fast. Thanks anyway for your time.

Thanks for the detailed directions. I was able to get a recovery app, which was my problem to begin with, and was able to do everything. Clockwormod did not want to boot into recovery. It kept locking up. I read that Clockworkmod and SuperSU do not like each other. At that time I knew I needed a recovery app. I went to QBKing77's youtube and was able to d/l the apps that I needed and went step by step with his video. It was an exact match on my phone. I then intall the Blu Kuban and LOVE IT!. I really like the dark features. This ROM is the shiznick. Thanks to you and everyone who answered my post.
If I could get some help with this, I'd be very grateful. I just got a replacement phone (unrelated hardware issue) and it was on EL24, so I flashed the stock EL24 clean root and everything is great.
Now, I'm trying to flash a custom recovery with ODIN (windows, not mobile ODIN), and I get stuck every time. ODIN says the flash completes fine, but when I boot my phone, it boots to the GS2 screen with the yellow triangle, and then doesn't boot back into the rom.
I have tried about 3 different versions of the AGAT tar, including the repack listed in this thread and every time my phone just will not boot to anything but odin download mode. I would really like some help with what I'm doing wrong.
EDIT: I ended up getting it to work through a different method. I updated to GB27 rooted, then I flashed Agat's 5.0 with mobile ODIN. I have no idea why the other version didn't work, but the entire time I was suspecting it was an ODIN problem and didn't really like using mobile ODIN from previous attempts. Oh well, hope this helps anyone who comes after me.
Hi. I have a SGH-T999 and I have tried to install the STOCKORAMA v2 rom, which uses the AROMA installer, but it keeps giving me the status 7 error. Also in the aroma installer you can check your system info and for some reason its showing my gs3 as SCH-I535, which is the verizon version. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this. By the way when I go to about phone in my regular ROM it shows it as SGH-T999

Is it a port? Why do you need a port now that we have 4.1.2? Use Wicked and be done with it.
I was reading for some fixes, it mentioned that I should update my boot loader to the newest one? Where would i get the latest version of the bootloader for my phone? Does this make any sense to anyone? Thanks for the replies.

Stay away from bootloaders unless you want to end up with a nice shiny brick..........
Even the developers do their best to stay away from bootloaders as much as possible.
The issue that you are having has nothing to do with bootloaders.
Here is a sure way to fix error 7 issues as well as other problems.
This guide will get your phone back up and running properly
Easy and sure way fix your problem - Here is s step by step guide to have a fresh start with the newest official Jellybean firmware:
This rom is the official Samsung Galaxy S3 T999 Jellybean 4.1.2 Touchwiz firmware with the benifit of being pre-rooted.
Download the newest pre-rooted Samsung Galaxy S3 T999 Jellybean v4.1.2 rom: T999_UVDMD5
After downloading make a folder on your computer's desktop and unzip the
file using Winzip or 7zip so the .TAR file is in the new folder you just made.
Download and extract Odin into the same folder you made containing the TAR file
Here is the link for Odin: http://d-h.st/Q14
Download ODIN which is required for flashing the stock rooted firmware (a windows app)
Download the Odin Flash firmware for T999 Tmobile then copy it to the same folder as Odin
Run Odin by double clicking the Odin.exe within the same folder as the TAR file you extracted
Turn off your phone and boot into DOWNLOAD MODE (Volume Down + Home + Power Hold until phone powers up, then release and press Volume Up to enter Download Mode)
Once in Download Mode, connect the USB/Charger cable to the phone and plug into the USB port on your computer.
You should now see a COM** port listed toward the top-left of Odin (under ID:COM)
Click on the PDA button in the middle-right area of Odin.
Browse to and select the Firmware you downloaded (TAR file)
Make sure Auto-Reboot and F. Reset Time are the only options checked and that PDA is the only other thing checked.
TRIPLE CHECK your settings and that you have selected the correct firmware for your model phone and are using the correct options.
If you are using a laptop, make absolutely sure you are plugged in, or if on battery, that it is charged enough and will not go into sleep mode during flash.
Click Start to begin the flash. This will take a while, so be patient!
Once complete, in the top-left box in Odin, it will say PASS and the phone should have automatically rebooted.
You may unplug the phone and close Odin if you wish.
Wait at least 5-10 minutes for the system to boot the first time and then build its cache!
(It may seem to hang during boot, this is normal and you must be patient!!!)
Good Luck!
That's only for AOSP ROMs.

The post above has NOTHING to do with AOSP/AOKP/CM10 roms.
It has all to do with Odin flashing the Samsung Jellybean 4.1.2 pre-rooted stock rom.
Hey, don't take my word for it... Check it out, click on the link and see for yourself.
This step by step is a very good way to start all over with a clean fresh start with the newest official samsung jellybean 4.1.2 rooted rom.
It's excellent for those people who are experiencing a lot of different issues, problems and difficulties .
But as I always say, everyone is entitled to their own suggestions and opinions here in these xda forums.
P.S. Does this XDA forum have a feature where we can follow users around to different threads and keep tabs on their posts?
If so let me know how to do it, it sounds like a lot of fun. LOL
^^^ You know that if you Odin the latest pre rooted rom it will update your bootloader as well?
Ps: to op, if you don't want to odin and start from scratch again check this out. Don't flash of you don't feel comfortable. I did it and it updated my bootloader with no problems.

I actually just figured it out, I think I had the verizon version of cwm installed on my phone so when I would try to install certain roms it would give me that error. Thank you for the replies though.

You are right, if all you do is flash an official stock rooted Galaxy S3 Tmobile T999 Jellybean 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 Odin flash rom
then you won't be having any problems commonly associated with flashing bootloaders at all.
But the OP of this thread was talking about and asking where he can find a "bootloader" to flash.
That's why I posted that by doing what he was asking about would be a sure way to end up with a nice shiny brick! LOL
