Let's Talk Car Stereos - Nexus 5 Accessories

Hi all, I'm in the market to purchase and aftermarket car stereo, and I'm looking for opinions. I know it may seem odd to have it in a Nexus 5 accessory forum, but I plan on using my stereo in unison with my Nexus 5 on a daily basis.
I'm between these:

http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-DEHX6...86620241&sr=8-9&keywords=car+stereo+bluetooth
Any thoughts on the above models? Or would you recommend something different?
Thanks, hopefully others can find good advice in this thread as well. :good:

I'd reccomend this but it's way more expensive than you prolly want to spend...

Either of those are fine. Just be aware that the first one isn't a CD player, it's just a digital media receiver.
And it's also on sale at Best Buy right now for $70 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/built-i...860195583&skuId=7767105&st=KDX250BT&cp=1&lp=1

I'd gotten a pioneer deh4500bt a few months back it works really good with both my nexus 4 and 5, the only issue I'd run into is the blue backlight on mine gets annoying at night but the 6600 you linked to should have an adjustment for different colors. The one thing to keep in mind is that there isn't a stereo (that I'd found) that would work with MTP on nexus 5 so charging from the usb input won't work since the stereo will get stuck in a loop and quit working.

Thanks guys. I ended up going with the Pioneer DEH6600BT. After trying them all in the store, this one connected to the phone the fastest. Plus the display is gorgeous. I can put it on a cycle where it changes colors every 5 seconds.

It's a decent stereo. I had it in my old car, but the colors are so bright and get annoying really fast at night.

What I really want (which I don't think I'm going to get) is a car deck that supports AptX (http://www.csr.com/products/60/aptx) and have the Nexus line support it. I think the HTC One supports it but the Nexus line doesn't.
I'm so tired of the Bluetooth quality issue that was introduced in 4.21.

Too late to buy this?

I'm considering buying the Nexus now that it is 400 dollars but I'm not sure if I should wait for the next best phone. Suggestions?
Edit: I'm concerned that I will get a phone that has banding issues/purple tint. I've read a ton of threads about this issue and it is concerning.

A lot of us here will tell you that the next best phone won't happen until the next nexus and none of us know when that'll be as there hasn't been any formal announcement.
I've got my galaxy nexus a little less than a month ago and I have no regrets.
You could pretty safely buy this for $399 and hold onto it for the next Nexus. The resale price won't be much lower. Or just hold onto the GNex why not.
Got my nexus 4 days ago, and I'm really glad i chose this phone. Haven't experienced any lag yet, and I have been running the most heavy 3D games available for android.. so you should definitely not be concerned about performance.
It's also easy to root, there's lots of development going on, it has a big super amoled hd display etc.. this phone will also be getting android jellybean when it's released.
Yes, there is several phones getting higher scores than the nexus in benchmarks, but performance-wise, there's actually not many areas where this phone could be improved. I don't really see the need of quad-core cpu's yet.
So, yea... I totally recommend you this phone!
edit: If camera is one of the most important things you're looking for in a smartphone, this phone's probably not for you... personally I take like 2-10 pictures a week .. so I really don't care about the cam..
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
It really depends on what you use the phone for. Do you watch movies more than you take pictures? Do you use the speaker to listen to music? That's just two of many factors you have to look at. Do you root and flash roms? Overall this phone is a good device should you over for some time. I for one get tired of phones and have to change every 5-6 months. I love the gnex but I think the camera and speaker volume could be better.

The speaker problem can be fixed with apps like Volume+, after installed it my speaker is quite loud. But the camera is really a concern.
I recommend this phone for almost everyone, the only exception is if you really need a good camera on the phone. This camera is average at best.
That said, I would buy this phone again today. The One X is really a temptation, but I know that being an Android geek that loves updated software I would regret to buy a not Nexus device. Did this 2 times and it was a pain in the ass, now I just buy phones from the Nexus line.
I am kind of in the same boat, lol. I just got the HTC One S, tho. I would like to switch to verizon for coverage reasons, but there seem to be issues with the 4G/3G connections. I played with one at the verizon store by my apartment, and it had a lot of issues. And I have read about the problems with data dropping, which it seemed to be doing at the store. I also love the loudness and clarity of the speaker on my one s. The one s camera has some fun things to it, tho. However I generally turn the pixel size down to under 5M anyway. Good luck with your decision. Maybe I will get the HSPA+ one and sell whichever one I don't like later.
I think I would miss having the MicroSD slot (even though I don't really use it). I don't have LTE in my area so that isn't really an issue for me. I'm slightly nervous about the display. I've read a lot about the banding issue that a lot of people have as well as the purple tint that others have. The prospect of fast updates sounds good (still waiting for ICS for my skyrocket...) but I'm not sure how much I really want the nexus.
The next best android phone comes out way too frequently. I personally wouldn't use this as a deciding factor. Do you like the gnex or not? Does it have features that will satisfy you? Does it have the community support that you want or need?

Just got my Sprint Nexus on Sunday and so far I'm psyched about it. I wanted a sexy looking device along with performance and the SG3/EVO LTE didn't have the look factor I wanted. I can sacrifice .2 ghz of a processor and don't find the camera all that bad on the Nexus. Plus Sprint was giving me 70 bucks for my Evo and 50 bucks through Google Wallet. So technically, after all is said and done, I'd pay $70 for the Nexus.
Sold my HTC inspire for $250 Bought my Nexus for 200 I made 50 bucks

honastly you cannot go wrong with this phone, I love the freedom that it has provided to me with being a pentaband phone. You will always be waiting for the next best phone. Unless your looking forward to all the graphicly intense games in the pipline for tegra 3.
But if your a normal user IE social networking, email, music streaming, and casual gaming. This phone should not disappoint, look at it this way.
if your picking this up now, for cheap I can only imagine what next years nexus will be priced at around this time next year.

A nexus always has the latest OS and the Galaxy Nexus has few bugs... You really can't beat this device. The HTC One X is a bit better, but it will always be on par or behind on upgrades. So, if you upgrade every year, sure wait.... If you upgrade every 2, then go with Nexus, it'll take longer for it to feel like an old device due to quicker software updates.
I bought mine a week ago. No regrets. I spent a year on Windows Phone and couldn't have asked for a better way to cone back to Android.
I'd heard some complaints about they camera, but mine is very good. I do have the international version. No blurriness or off colors.
The phone is fast. Nothing else to say about it. No lagging or stuttering, fast app switching, beautiful screen. I noticed pixels on the Galaxy S Pentile display, but this one is beautiful.
Oh yea, I've left the phone stock. I'm sure I'll mod it in the future, but right now I haven't found a reason to. It runs exactly how I want it to.
I say buy the phone.

Nexus 7 Worth it?

So right now I have a Nexus 4, and a laptop for work. I was thinking about getting a tablet for media consumption, so I was wondering if anyone can help justify my decision. Is there a point of having a Nexus 7 even with a laptop?
I have been in the same boat, I actually purchased my Nexus 7 last week. I actually owned last year's as well. I find the screen size very accommodating for media consumption (games, Netflix, music). I use my Bluetooth headphones and I am completely wireless. Go for it, go to Slickdeals.net there is a link for a $50 off coupon in store or online and free shipping. I paid less for my 32gb than the usual price of the 16gb, win.

Get it! Every time I look at the awesome display I'm so happy I picked one of these up! I used to use my GNote 2 for everything but now it sits collecting dust.
I am also planning to buy one. Since I read here that many people face multi-touch issue and other problems so iss there any batch which has no problems? I use HTC one x and few had hardware WiFi problems. So august batch was perfect as HTC admitted the issue which i bought. Since with my budget this is the best tab I am kind of leaned towards it. But I can't have one which has any problem coz In my country there is no replacement warranty for nexus devices. Is there any way to check the batch number to get a perfect device? I see people mentioning something like mkbh and krt. I guess these are versions. Which will be better? I want to check every possible thing that I can before buying?

and i even watched anime with my tablet aswell with headphones on and it all just works wonderful and it don't get hot that's the best part

[Q] My Nexus 7 (1st gen) just died. Is it worth getting a 2nd gen Nexus 7?

My first gen Nexus 7 just died on me and its too expensive to fix. Is it worth getting a 2nd gen Nexus 7 or just get a used 1st gen?
My son uses it to watch movies (he's 14). I have a Note 2 and don't ever use the tablet.
What do you guys think?

For movie watching, the 2013 gives a noticeably better visual and auditory experience, and it's noticeably lighter and more convenient to hold. A new 2013 vs a used 2012 will almost certainly have better battery life, giving him more movie watching time between charges. A used 2012 will certainly work fine, but he'll notice the difference and likely be excited about a new 2013.
The main reason I'd recommend the 2013, though, is that tablets and smartphones (especially those without removable batteries) are generally not made to last. A desktop computer will last LONG after it's technologically obsolete, a quality laptop should give you 5-8 years without crapping out on you, but the likelihood of a tablet or smartphone dying on you in a few years is much higher. It's subjected to rougher conditions and isn't designed for maintenance. Buying a device that may be nearly 1 1/2 years old isn't worth it unless you get a very good deal.

It just turned off one day while copying some files to it and wouldn't come back on. I took it to a repair shop after they "checked" it - I have no idea what they actually did as they kept it for over a week, they said its too expensive to fix. Too expensive as in more than $75.
Thanks for the feedback everyone else. I'll just hold off on getting a tablet for now. My son inherited an almost 2 year old Nexus phone from his older brother and he'll use that for now.
Have any of you considered any other tablet other than the Nexus 7? I can get a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8" tablet using my airmiles, but wonder how that compares to a Nexus 7 other than the obvious size difference.
The resolution and pixel density on the Samsung aren't as good as the Nexus 7. I wonder what the user experience is like though. Are those spec differences that much noticeable?

Yes. I've fixed a couple like this. Back cover pops loose with a guitar pick or a credit card. Battery connectors pop loose and the fix is adding a piece of tape. One of the ones I fixed the battery itself was loose and I had to add tape to stop it from flopping around and making itself loose.

I just looked at the the two samsung tablets, I forget their exact names. Note something and the TAB 3.
I liked the more colorful interface, and the wider aspect ratio. One of them has a nice thin bezel all the way around. I like the wider aspect ratio because it gives it a bit more screen height in landscape mode. Which I don't use very much except when something doesn't render very well.
What I didn't like was that they are on older versions of Android, and there is less development for them. And then there is the price difference.
The Note tablet has the S stylus and the cool things it can do, but I know from my Note 2 phone I don't use it.
For me I would have felt like I was paying more and getting less. But I realize that is based on my fairly specific criteria. If I didn't have the Google N7 one of those tablets would be what I would have.

[Q] How well does the Galaxy Nexus stand up today?

I know the Galaxy Nexus is an older phone, but does it hold up well today? I'm looking for a cheaper phone that can do gps and look up stuff over wifi. I'm seeing that I could pick one up on ebay in the $50 range.
The only two experiences I've had with android is my nook color and 2013 nexus 7. The nook is the quite slow. I forget what I have running on the micro sd card. That was something to play with and was only $30 on craigslist. The nexus 7 is quite fast. I got that during the gamestop half off glitch. I'd hope the galaxy nexus would be closer to the nexus 7 than the nook performance wise.
The galaxy nexus would be a big improvement for me considering I'm still using a LG Envy 2. I haven't really had the cash for a smart phone and got by with what I had.
Galaxy Nexus will be just fine for you if you can get it that cheap. GN is not really fast and best smartphone but it will be good update from that LG you own

Thanks for the responses. I'm mainly looking at smart phones right now to find a cheaper android device to carry around. It's kind of hard to find decent tablets in the $100 or less area. Hopefully this phone will do what I need, till I can afford a nexus 5 or something else.
GNex is still going great... If you don't mind a bit of lag in the notification bar and some delay when opening apps. Definitely worth the price though. Other than that it can handle daily requests pretty well.

I can probably stand some lag if it isn't too bad.
I ended up getting one on ebay for $42 after shipping. Just curious, what are the power requirements for the galaxy nexus? Would it use the same cable and charger as my nexus 7? If it does, the only things I would need to pick up would be the case and extended battery. I already picked up some zagg invisible shield screen protectors on clearance from target.
Now I need to figure out what rom I want on it.

[Q] Galaxy Nexus as dedicated GPS

I have a Sprint Galaxy Nexus that is no longer in use. I was thinking on using it as a dedicated GPS. I have CoPilot USA Premium for the offline maps. Any thoughts on this? I haven't set it up yet, but I thought this would be a great way to keep using an older device. Also, I was thinking on loading it with a ton of music and using it with my car stereo over bluetooth.
Any thoughts?
Only issue is battery life sucks when GPS/BT are active and brightness is Max, so you'll definitely need a 12v charger.
Once I start my car my GN automatically starts streaming all the music/calls via BT stereo.
Also use the stock windshield mount very rarely for GPS since I find it easier to just Google it(using maps+street view) before leaving this way I'm actually learning the route for future trips in that area.
Have even used it as a dash cam but then quickly realized I don't want a record of my driving habits.
LOL
That sounds just like what I want to use mine for. Is your phone still active on a plan or is it disconnected?

Still on the same plan for the past couple of years:
$25/month unlimited talk/text/data(use 5-6gb/month).
Don't even have/need home phone line or cable internet.
Use work internet/PC to get all larger content via teamviewer remote PC app and Fongo VoIP or Skype app for long distance calls.
I'm having a hard time getting the GPS to actually work on the phone. If it won't work I have a nexus 5 I can use. I was hoping to use the GN since it was just collecting dust.
