Hello, I have Xperia S with the latest firmware 6.2.B.1.96, which I have root using the Doomlord method, and then TA Backup my DRM keys.
And now, I want to flash Slimbean on it, and regarding to this thread, I need to flash the official kernel first before flashing the rom? since I'm using the Sony stock firmware? or I don't need to?
Thanks.
You need to unlock your bootloader

Ah yes, I know I have to unlock my bootloader before installing a custom rom, but just wanted to make sure I have done everything before installing Slimbean, like whether or not I should flash this kernel first before proceeding or not since I already have the latest stock firmware on my XS?
Thanks.
Hi,
Yes. You need to flash the kernel before proceeding.
Extract the Kernel from zip file(ROM) and flash it.

Chandru.

Um, by kernel you mean boot.img right? Which one? From the Slim-nozomi-4.2.2.build.8-OFFICIAL.zip or Kernel from OFFICIAL release build 2.5 ?
Oh, I'm trying to find Gapps for this ROM from the slimbean website, but just couldn't find the 4.2.2 version for this ROM..
Thanks!

U should flash xxmc8 jb firmware if u want harald's cm10.
It's not a hard task.
1- download odin
2- download xxmc8 firmware (from sam mobile)
3- extract the file downloaded from sam mobile
4- flash it via odin as pda part
5- download cm10 (i prefer harald's version)
6-flash it via temporary cwm (see roms thread about installation process).
Any help needed? Just ask.

Here's the Generic North America 4.3 release for Sony. It's untouched, just zipped to pare it down to ~ 450mb chunks.
I've tested this by flashing it to my own device. Even with that, I don't guarantee this to work for you.
If you're locked boot loader, you'll want to look at Nuts thread elsewhere for files to help you stay rooted.
If you're Unlocked boot loader, you can flash this, then flash a kernel with a build-in recovery and root using the update-su file found elsewhere on XDA, then flash the kernel from this FTF again once you're rooted.
C6506_10.4.1.B.0.101_1270-7584 Generic US.zip part 1
C6506_10.4.1.B.0.101_1270-7584 Generic US.zip part 2
Thanks for this! Now will just wait for Nut's or someone who can make a rooted zip and stripped ftf for flashing...

Stupid question, but how do you flash a 2 part Rom in flash tool?

Carefully...or not. Extracting the first zip will create a single FTF file to flash from the 2 zips.
So basically just unzip the 1st folder and that will open the 2nd zip which will create the single ftf?
Sent from my C6506 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The zip program should be able to detect that it is a multi-part split zip file and automatically treat the two parts as a single zip file.
7-Zip supports this, if you don't already have a zip program.
Yeah, download both, and use 7zip to decompress and you should be golden. I'd have put it up as a single file, but that method of sharing files is limited to ~ 450mb files....

My only issues I am having would be the auto focus on "words". Sometimes it will work well and sometimes it won't ... don't think it's as good as .569.... battery life seems a little bit better... pretty good overall....
Is there a place I can get all the firmware new and old I remember there was a site that did charge money and other sites where it was free.

I want to start with the Bell C6506 4.1 then at least I can flash that back for warranty purposes but then I can root it and flash a pre-rooted 4.3 stock Rom from there.

It's a Dev Db project so, you may have to see the online version, instead of from the app. I've added a link to redirect there.
I think so, yes. But i don't think it will do any good. AFAIK, ota can't be done if you have an unlocked bootloader.

i would like to request a similar tool for kernel which could easily backup and restore kernels on our phone.
only if your time permits and if you believe it would be useful.
