After I drop my cellphone gps can't connect properly and gps icon is blinking all the time, like is not connected, but gps can locate my location around 3,4 km approximate and shows route but not exact location where I am. I also try install new software but same thing.
Any solutions? thank you
Do you make sure to have WiFi on when using GPS? I believe WiFi being on helps it to be more approximate and closer to your exact location.
Break me off a piece of that Kit-Kat ROM!
No, that is not a problem. Anyone know where is gps antenna so I can maybe unplug and plug it again, or maybe if i can order new gps chip, if is not integrated on mbo?

It's definitely integrated and soldered. See step 12.

You might have damage to your mainboard rather than the GPS tracker unless you damaged it in a way that directly hit the chip.
Thank you, then is probably damaged. I was thinking there is gps antenna which is connected to mbo somehow, but looks like only gps chip on mbo and no antenna for gps. So there is now way to fix this):

I've got tomtom5 and a rikaline bluetooth gps reciever, tomtom seems to find the reciever fine, as the little icon on the top right of the app start to spin, but nothing further happens. Anyone know what the issue might be?
I had the same thing yesterday. I set up a colleagues BT GPS receiver in the office. BT manager found the receiver and was receiving data. Tomtom displayed the spinning icon, updated time but no valid GPS signal. I resorted to standing outside for <> 5 minutes in the wind and snow and eventually the receiver fired up and now works perfectly! I have no explanation other than I took that long with a good signal for the GPS receiver to cold boot.
I had similar problems when I first got my BT GPS. I similarly I just waited for about 10min outside in clear skys and it worked...
Dunno if it will solve any problems.
Problems
Hiya,
I don't actually know how true this is, but I have been told that once you actually get the GPS unit talking to the PDA / Phone, it needs to dowload a "GPS Almanac" which, from what I have been told, is something along the lines of a database of what satelites are available, where they are located etc for the unit to give you correct information. This can take up to ten minutes to download, and you do need to be in an area where the sky is clearly visible.
Again this is only information I have been told, but after I through a GPS receiver against the wall, and then asked a colleague why it wouldn't connect, this made clear to me!
i installed TomTom Navigator 6.020 SD BENELUX V660.1219
the program works,
it only cant find my gps device :s
some help would be much appreciated
Have you considered searching for this one - I have answered the same question at least 3 times to date!
Other NMEA Device
Baud Rate 9600
Comm Port 4

I was having a problem with that also.
It didn't matter if I was in the middle of an empty field running around with the thing in the air like an idiot, the internal antenna was too weak.
Now if I was in the car, the thing would pick up a signal no problem.
After looking into alternatives - like an external antenna - I settled on this:
I just picked up a BT-359W Bluetooth GPS Receiver for 85- Euro new.
The only difference between the BT-359W & BT-359S is the design on the top.
I made sure the battery was 100% charged before I turned it on (old habits die hard) and after spending 5-10 minutes trying to configure the Bluetooth on the HTC P3300 - I am a newbie when it comes to this new technology - it was able to get 3 satellites while I was in the house right away.
The thing is very small also - 82 mm x 41 mm x 13.4 mm (Inches: 3.22" x 1.61" x 0.52").
I would have to say that this is a great alternative to a wired antenna.
Here is a review I read before making my final decision: GlobalSat BT-359 Bluetooth GPS receiver review

Looks like you have a lot of money to burn, or whats the point of having a P3300 (with a bult-in GPS receiver - SIRFIII BTW) and then buying a bluetooth external GPS (basically another SIRFIII) ? cos its external ?

You missed the point completely.
The internal antenna was too weak.
When I am in a car, I have no problems at all getting a satellite fix.
The reason I bought an external GPS receiver is because I am not in a car all the time when using the GPS.

That doesn't make sense at all, it should be the other way around. Inside a car the signal will allways be weaker than outside, because of the surrounding metal.

completely agree, what you're saying doesnt make sense unless you were in some very dense forest with all the trees in leaf, but you say you were in the middle of a field.
im about to install tomtom on my orbit so will see what its like as i used to use a bt gps reciever on my xda IIi
hello
i have installed tomtom ver 5
and i have to say that it works a treat..
it takes about a minute to register on the GPS but it does work well form inside the car aswell as outside the car.
The settings i use are
GPS Program Com 4
GpS Hardware Com 0
and keep the 3rd tab option checked ie pocket pc controlling access
On the GPS setting in tomtom select other NMEA device and choose Com 4
First time use will take about 5 mins so keep the phone still then after should take less than a minute.....
hope it helps
Tomtom not working
I have tried endlessly without success to get the tomtom on my orbit working. It keeps saying 'no gps device found'. When I select 'Other NMEA device' i dont see com port 4 as one of the options, i see com2 and serial (i think).
I thought maybe the software was not properly installed when i read about the com 4 thing and so uninstalled it. However I bought the phone (brand new) with the tomtom from ebay but now i cannot reload the tomtom as it keeps crashing during install.
Any ideas on what next I can do
have you changed the hardware port to com 4 first?
start>settings>connections>gps
then on first page GPS settings it asks what program port form the drop down list select com 4, that should then enable TomTOm GPS settings to display com 4.
remember once you have selected settings connect your phone to PC via actie sync and on
start>programs>quick gps
select menu and select update automatically when connected via active sync
this speeds up the process of finding the satelites and the data is usually valid for abut 3 days, so it does help to locate satelites quicker.
keep the phone still for about 5 mins and it should work..
thanks

PS i am using TomTom 5, but the procedure should be the same
hi,
Go to mininova.org and download Tomtom Navigator 6 of it. It might take a couple of days to download sometimes. After you download follow the instructions and it is all user friendly. If you want any help don't hesitate to get back to me. If you want a copy in a CD send me a SAE so that I can write it on a disc and send it to you
Ok forgive me because I am totally new to this whole thing. I have a G3 T-mobile MDA. I really want to use it as a simple GPS. Is there any way to unlock the internal GPS chip and let GPS software out there use that to get the readings? or do you HAVE to buy a Bluetooth GPS. also another thought can you plug in like one of these Chepo Delorme or Microsoft USB GPS devices to the USB port? doubt it but just thought I would ask.
GPS Chip on a Wizard? I don't know about you, but i never heard of Wizard having one.
So you'd need a bluettoth GPS instead. As for USB ones, you won't be able to connect them to the wizard, since its USB port lacks host functionality - you can connect the wizard to a host device, but you can't connect any slave device (like GPS, pendrive, printer, etc) to the wizard.
Hmm I don't know
I thought that the phone had a basic GPS chip in it. you know like that they can track you with like on TV or really I thought that it was the same technology Sprint and Verizon customers can use for directions etc but T-mobile didn't want you to use?
What you talk about is not GPS. Verizon and Sprint probably calculate your phone using data about strength of signal your phone receives from nearby GSM transmitters and positions of these transmitters.
You can get such positioning data in google maps (windows mobile version, not java midlet). But keep in ming that positioning error when using this method can be as large as 1-2km (especially in suburban/country terrain). The more cell transmitters are in your area, the more accurate the tracking.
There probably is some other software that can do this, but nothing crosses my mind right now.
[EDIT]
Here's some info on the subject:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GSM_localization
[/EDIT]
Is there any app out there that would allow me to track my phone without signal, just purely gps? For instance if I were hiking out in the back country where I have no cell signal but I wanted my family to be able to track my location remotely.
Is that even possible for any gps device without a network connection?

Nope, phone is a gps receiver only not a transmitter, to track via gps you have to have some sort of way to get the gps coordinates from the phone to whatever device is doing the tracking. REI just had the SPOT gps receivers on sale, they have some sort of satellite com that will allow your family to receive updates. google it spot tracking its pretty cool

Hi friends
Since about 2 months I can no longer get gps fix with my HTC Desire. My 2 year old kids love it as much as I do, but unfortunelly they let it drop in the ground too often.
I'm afraid that the gps antenna is damaged, because the fact is that the gps really isn't working anymore.
A few years ago I used a windows mobile 5 phone with TomTom, and it accepted an external bluetooth antenna as wel as the integrated gps module.
Unfortunelly, TomTom is not suported on android. Do you know any android navigation software that accepts a bluetooth external antenna so that I can keep using my desire as a gps device?
Thanks in advance.
Hello,
are you sure it's the antenna's fault? Maybe some settings are off (i.e. you're turning on 3G instead of GPS?). What sort of external antenna do you want to plug into it?

Hi
I´m not sure if the problem is really the antenna, but for sure it is not about the settings. I have this phone for about 1,5 years, so I know what to turn on.
Have already made factory settings and reconfigurated everything.
I know that the old phones without gps modules could be bluetotth paired with an external gps antenna. At least the TomTom supported this option. The question is to know if any android navigation software supports it now.

I found some very usefull information here:

Already ordered the gps bluetooth antenna. I will post the results later.
Regards to everyone!
