I'm going on vacation soon, where free wired(ethernet) internet is common, but not wi-fi. So I wish to use my phone as a broadcaster.
After doing some reading, it appears ethernet-to-microUSB cables exist and can work for this function, but it depends on whether the phone/manufacturer included drivers for this.
So can our HOX do this? Would also like to know if anyone have any prior experiences, any difficulties with setting up or configuring etc.

Greetings to all,
After three years of faithful service, i feel that my trusty Kaiser is ready to retire. It has served me well and survived a lot (including being dropped in sea water), but it is time to move on. I think i will just keep my Kaiser in the car as a gpsnav until tomtom is released for Android...
Anyway, I am almost set on buying the Desire, but i was wondering if someone could answer the following: I use Bluefire VPN (with group authentication) to access my work email. Is there something that would work equally well on Android?
Thanks for any information you might have.

The desire has a VPN set up option built in, I don't use it and don't know if it is what you are looking for, but it is worth checking out.

Thanks for responding buddy. I will try and find out more info if i can. Problem is that i cannot test it unless i get another android phone on my hands.
VPN on the desire does what it should. It makes it act as if you were connected to that network. You browse the web through it, you can retrieve exchange mail, etc. I have not yet found a way to access network computers though.
In order to access network computers, you can try Remote RDP from the market. There is a free version "Lite" with which I was not so happy. Since the exchange mail works fine, and since the screen is still too small to really work on the Desire like on a network computer (although it is way bigger than the screen of the Kaiser, I also had one), I decided not to invest into the pay version of Remote RDP and leave it. Actually, I don't miss anything.
Hi there,
does anyone know how to use VPN with a token? Have not found out....and currently I need it but is useless...
Also, can I use this VPN and its settings to get connected to "secret"/hidden network? My company uses a secret net, which the Desire does not find....but was thinkning that if I could set up correctly this net I can login into it (but we use RSA tokens).
Anyone who can help?
thanks
Hi I know this sounds like a broad idea so ill get straight to the point.
I have a front door lock. I will lickley be getting the August lock or a Kevo. I have wireless lights and a NEST thermostat in the house also, the idea is that I want to create one app to control all my home wireless devices. I might use a rasberry pie which would act as some sort of repeater to link all my IR, RF, Wireless, devices to the Internet so I can use the app from anywhere in the world.
Is this possible? How difficult?
I found a device that can act as the controller to all the individual things in the house and links them to the internet however it uses its own app. any way to override the app with my own design?
Thanks!
Yes it is possible
We used to have a college thesis like this one back in the day. One solution that I can think of right now is you need to have the following:
1. Google App Engine to host a web app that connect your phone and a computer in your home
2. A custom mobile app that will communicate with the web app.
3. A computer / rasberry pi that will query the web app to know which switch to turn on / off. You'll need a USB relay to connect the computer with an appliance or a light bulb.
These are the three things I would start if I was to build one again. Good luck
Hey thanks for the reply.
That is reassuring. I will be communicating wirelessly to the lights however ( or the dimmable wall switch I should say).but that's the least of my concerns.
The main part is what you discussed. Any ideas how much I would need to pay someone to make the app? At there templates? I have some friend who are fantastic programmers however they have not touched apps b4.

No idea how much for the custom app but it cost me about 100 dollars (hardware and software) when I was in college to build the whole thing. Back then I only used SMS to communicate and not the internet. It would be fun building it your self.
If you want a ready made one, there are available ones in the market, and it would cost you about $50. Try searching for Belkin WeMo switch
Somewhat shocked no one else has issues with this. I have a fully unlocked rooted Fire TV running rBox 51.1.5.0_515030720. Love the set up. I run Kodi and it works great. Netflix also works fine. My problem is Hulu plus is intermittently ridiculously unwatchably choppy. Even the ads. I ran speed test on the FTV and bandwidth is great. I ran speed test on my rooted Oneplus one with the same results and Hulu plus works perfect on that device. Makes no sense to me that the FireTv would have such issues. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, cleared cache and data, unregistered and reregistered the device, all to no avail. I use hulu a bit do I'd like it to work. I did install a different version of Hulu plus off xda that worked okay but quality was unacceptable. I read elsewhere that being rooted maybe causes the issue but unrooting for hulu is also not an option for me. Anyone else with this problem? More importantly any solutions? I can give out a Oneplus one invite to whoever helps me resolve this if anyone's interested.
Also, for the record, screw hardware and software developers that thrive on proprietary control of their products. May be a profitable business model but it very deliberately screws end users in genuine ownership and control. Thats why I love xda. You all are the best. Open source community for all working together to overcome oppressive corporate limitations. Not to get to lost on a tangent here, just irritated.
I haven't had any issues like that with Hulu and we use it everyday. Sometimes it will crash when the first ad completes and the show is supposed to begin. A reboot will fix that. I don't remember if I've seen that happen lately.
Are you connected via a wireless or Ethernet connection? If Ethernet, try it wireless.
Thanks for the suggestion. No change Ethernet or WiFi.
Any one else with suggestions?
Hey guys, I have searched high and low for a solution to this problem but have come up empty so far. I just got a joying head unit and everything, including the easy connected app, seemed to work without issue. I decided well since I had the headunit running next to my pc that I would flash Malaysk's custom rom before installing it. After that, I reinstalled the app from various sources including the oem app but none of them seem to allow me to connect my same exact devices anymore.
Why is this important for me? I had planned on controlling a tablet in the back seat for my son who is still to young to put on show without trouble. Essentially, this would allow me to never have to reach back there to help him out.
I have read, from joying, that it would no longer work after flashing new firmware but that seemed to not be the case from some things I had read here (please correct me if I am wrong on that). Tried different cables and ports but no luck. I did read that a license might need to be carried over but not sure what that entails as I can find ZERO info on this easy connected app/problem. I hope that this is a very simple fix and that I did not jump the gun again for the chance to flash a new device (its addicting and I blame XDA for my problems...).
I did try and find some other apps that might allow me to do the same thing. RemoDroid seemed promising but didn't function. Most other ones are meant for controlling from a pc or browser and just weren't useful for the task at hand. I am open to solid suggestions. I use all Android devices and avoid the Apple juice. Any insight you guys can offer will help a tired Dad out. Thanks!
Edit: Solved-ish
The easy connect app seems to function now intermittently. Not sure there was a specific thing that I did to fix it. Seems to work when I launch easy connect app right after booting up and nothing else. Messing with other apps seems to cause a problem for my devices. Also, switching between my devices(phone and tablet) may also have been causing a problem, not sure yet. I suppose I'll just keep trying to make it work reliably until I break it again.
On the previous version of the easy connect app, you were able to disable Drive Mode from launching. Not so on the newer version with Android WiFi. If anyone has a solution to that I would appreciate it as the Drive Mode app is useless for my needs.
Note 4 - USB - works great. I have yet to try over wifi
Note 10.1 N8013(lollipop rom) - USB/Wifi - works great (disable smooth mode, remote device screen cannot be turned on with easy connect "Home" button)

I tried several different apk's but they all have similar results and end with a connection failure.
I haven't yet tried going back to stock firmware so that might be worth trying. I installed the headunit in my car so I'm not as willing to keep flashin it as I have to park down the street from my house.
So not sure what magic I used but I was able to get it working for a moment and then it stopped again. USB and Wifi android mirroring were working so I know my current firmware/setup is functional!! Once I got it working I started configuring some other apps and when I went to run it again it wasn't connecting. I guess I'll just keep messing with it until I can figure out what got it working again.
With the newer version of the easy connected app, I can no longer disable launching of drive mode on connect. Is there a way to disable that option with the 1.4 version?
Hi.
Is it possible mirror in wifi with android?
Can you explain the way?

Hello All,
I'm new to this forum, so I'm not really sure if this should be general, dev, or just a technical question. Also I'm a software dev, but am not too familiar with android other than lightly using Android Studio for app dev.
Basically my problem comes down to this. I use a custom OpenWrt device as an ethernet dongle for my laptops by loading the g_ether driver. I would like to do this for an android phone as well. Right now I'm trying the s20 and s22 (pretty sure whatever solution I come to will work for both); however, when I plug my dongle in, the phone will see the dongle with all the correct device descriptors and all that, but will not connect and attempt to get an IP.
My current guess is that the phone just doesn't have the right drivers on there (cdc_ether or cdc_subset), or that it is not loading them.
Thus far I've tried poking around with termux, but have not gotten too far. I was hoping this community may be able to help me figure out how to get the phone to use the dongle.
Lastly, would really rather not root the phone unless completely necessary.
Thank you all for any advice!
