[Q] Charging problem - Galaxy Ace II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The phone was working perfectly until last few days. When connected to the socket via the charger, it shows that the phone is charging but it isn't(the battery instead keeps on decreasing while on charge) sometimes charging begins but really slowly.
However when connected with the computer through the usb, its charging ok.
Tried with an other samsung charger too, same problem.

Have you tried an iPhone (or generic USB) charger with the known working data cable?
Charger or USB power status is determined by the data lines instead of the accessory ID wire so you should get high speed charging with... well, mostly every charger.

@arhamiq, do U use custom ROM?

Been using cm 10.2 since it actually came out.
Maybe its the chargers fault :s

Have you changed settings in "Galaxy Ace 2" app? there is setup for wall socket current in "USB" sub menu - maybe you tweaked something there.
If you have any other charger with micro-usb try it (it should be fine with all chargers with amper range around 1A).

Tried with a sony charger but charges really slowly.

oh, one more thing, have you cleaned teh usb port in your phone?
If not, switch the phone off, remove baterry (it's for removing any current from the cirquits) and with fine wooden toothpick or something similar, try to go around inside of a usb port of the phone - I was really supprised how much fabric can be pilled up there

Discharging while charging

Does anyone have issues where they are using their phone (just for simple tasks) and noticed your battery is draining significantly? Like right now, I'm typing and my battery just went down another percentage point while posing this.

charging off USB or the wall? USB or car chargers often can't keep up with the drain of LTE phones if you're using them at all.
I'm on AC right now. I have a power strip that sits at the foot of my bed that provides my devices juice.

At which battery level % did this occur?
I'd say if it happens between the 100% to 95% range, its normal, as I have seen that with other phones too.
If it happens at any other percentage, maybe you're charger adapter is not supplying enough power, but that should not be an issue with the stock charger that came in the box.
Have you checked that it's actually charging at AC rate ? I was surprised to find that the charger for my Palm Pre 2 was charging @ USB, I swapped the cable for the one for my TouchPad (same charger) and it changed to AC charging. I'll try different cable and charger combinations when I get time.
Install "Battery Monitor Widget" and monitor the charging rate under mA.
I use the plug that came with the phone a usb to the ac adaptor. I install the app will see tonight when i charge. Also an other point when i charge at night arround 10 pm 5% in the morning wake up at 6 am my phone is charge at 95 to 97% so not fully charge plug all night

It says it's charging USB, not AC.
What does Settings -> Battery say when plugged in, AC or USB ?
Ok for some reason the adaptor that came with the phone when I charge say usb but when I use same adaptor and an other usb cable a blackberry one its say AC. What the...?

Install BetterBattery to figure out what apps are being hung up (partial wakelocks) and re-install them. This drastically increased my battery life!
Also, the screen on wastes the most battery. Try dimming your brightness
Get a 1A charger.

Its the cable. Some USB cables have the data wires shorted or missing altogether and these USB cables are known as charging cables. All they can do is charge the phone. In AC mode. Bought a USB charging cable on amazon for 7 bucks now my car charger charges in AC mode.

[Q] What the hell is going on with the charging??

Id like to hope im the only one whos experienced this. But whats going on with the charging? I love the dam phone but while charging it sometimes drops in percentage. Its happened in alot of situations. Stock unrooted, stock rooted, Frosty jb, and Xquizit. I try to underclock to see if that makes a difference but it gets worse. Can someone, anyone please help me out. It was even left on the charger last night and I awoke to 15%
Sounds like either a bad charger or a bad connection between phone and battery.

Thank you. At least its possible it may be the charger and or battery and not the phone. Much appreciated.
I don't know what rom you on now, just keep as stock for now then keep checking 1 or 2 day still have problem, bring back to TMO for warranty.
Are you using the usb cable and the wall charger that come with the phone? I noticed that when I am using my other usb cable I brought from the internet to charge the phone with my PC, which only supports max 500mA current per USB port, the phone doesn't seem to be charging at all. Just like the op said, the battery percentage went down even though the phone is saying it is charging. Then I switched to the usb cable that come with the phone, and plug in to the same usb port on my pc. What you know, it is charging correctly now, the percentage went up. And it charge much faster when using the 2A wall charger that come with the phone.
I think the problem with charger

If you are near a local T-Mobile store or distributor, why not pop in with your kit (phone, charger and cable) and do a little process of elimination to see if your problem is your phone and/or cable and/or your charger?
Ive been experiencing the same, but when using other chargers and usb cables. Weird. But it never happens with the charger the phone came with.

[Q] Very slow charging. why??

When i connect my galaxy note 2 to stock charger it shows that in my battery stats it's charging as USB not AC.
Well what's supposed to be the problem. is my charger broken or the usb port in my phone is damaged??
Are you using the stock charger with the stock USB cable? My note 2 was charging really slow until I realized that the USB extension cable I was using wasn't delivering enough juice.

Do you have another 2A charger/USB cable that you can test from? I use an HP Touchpad charger + cable because its 2A and has a long cable.
I just happen to experience the same thing. I have had my Note II for a couple of weeks now and it have always charged from almost empty to full in less than 2,5 hours. Today however, it's going really slow. I do not know why. I've tried everything I can think of. I juse only the stock charger. Also tried the Ipad charger - no luck. This seem to be a quite common problem.
Hmm, just as I thought, more and more of this should be coming in upcoming days. I lost two good night's sleep because of this. Anyway, this is what I have done and you guys SHOULD do.

first time ever i have faced this issue (slow charging) couple of days back. it was dropped to almost 1%/3min
I have simply reboot to recovery and wiped cache
Now it come back to normal 40%/hr.
Sv: [Q] Very slow charging. why??
I have discovered that the stock charging usb-cable only has 4 pins in the micro-usb end. It looks like on is missing, from the standard five-pins. Can anyone check your stock usbs and see if there are four or five pins, and report back? Thanks!

My cable got only 4 pins. The second from the right is missing if you have the USB logo up.

I found a huge variance in charging rates based on a combination of chargers and cables. Goes to show that the cable makes a huge difference. Here's my findings:
** Stock Charger (2A):
w/Stock Cable (4-pin) - 1698
w/Cable from another phone (5-pin) - 1698
w/Cable from battery pack (5-pin)- 1698
w/generic eBay cable (4-pin)- 100! - It didn't charge at all, even with screen off.
** iPhone Charger (1A):
w/Stock Cable (4-pin) - 1300
w/Cable from another phone (5-pin) - 1100
w/Cable from battery pack (5-pin) - 1300
w/generic eBay cable (4-pin) - 100!
** Car Charger (1A):
w/another generic eBay cable - 490

[Q] What is probably the cause of slow charging?

I was curious that my phone sometimes used more than 5-7 hours to make the battery fully charged. It occurs on both Adam and Perseus kernel, and on both pre-rooted and Wanam rom.
And of course, I charge my phone with the plug, not USB port.

I have the same issues once in a while. Try to download GCC (Galaxy Charging Current) from Play Store and check on your average current while charging. Then from there, you can see where the problem occur.
The charger input on the phone is the cause

I knew something was wrong when it took my phone 6 hours to charge from 22% to fully charged on the stock kernel, so I had my carrier swap my data cable. Swapping the data cable didn't fix the random slow charging issue. If you view the battery stats under settings, your phone will indicate what kind of source it's getting its charge from. I discovered sometimes when you plug your phone in via the stock travel AC adapter, your phone detects it as a USB port. It's not the charger that is the problem, but how Sammy designed the charger port or an error during the assembly process. I found a work around to avoid the phone thinking it's being plugged into a USB port. Once I initially lineup the data cable with the charger port, very very gently push down on the data cable as you fully insert it into the charger port. If you don't do so, it's usually a hit or miss when it comes down to what the phone will detect between AC and USB mode. This is the first phone that I own that seems to have this issue. Every since I've figured out what's been happening, I've been able without fail to avoid the slow charging issue.
Since discovering the quick fix to the slow charging with the Samsung data cable, I've discovered that my old HTC data cable works flawlessly without having to make any adjustments as I insert the cable into the charger port.
I tried using this app and it told me as the picture below.
What does it mean? Is it normal or abnormal?

What mode is your phone indicating that it's connected to. This can be viewed in the battery stats screen.

Another GN that won't charge, but with a difference, please fix.

I'm having a problem with my galaxy nexus.
After going over my warranty by a month,I started to suffer from the odd charging bug that seems common in GN especially after the 4.2.2 update.
I started with intermittent charging issues, sometimes it would charge, sometimes it wouldn't.
It then got to the point were it didn't charge.
After googling and searching through the internet I found this to be a common problem.
There seemed to be several fixes, change usb circuit board, bending usb tabs, restarting bootloader, flashing bootloader, new battery etc.
I can safely say I have been through them all.
I can still not charge my phone after; a new usb circuit board, and new battery. I did have a glimmer of hope with a flash of 4.1.2 Google factory image, where it started to start charging but then stopped.
In #*#*info*#*# under battery, it notices a usb or ac feed connected, and my computer registers that it's connected, and can enter fastboot and adb. But never says charging.
The one that concerns me the most, is when the phone was powered off, and I plugged in a charger, I would get a charging partition boot up, showing a battery with lightning bolt on it. I no longer get this.
When I plug it in to my computer,I get a connection tone, but then an item not working properly tone, and under device manager it shows item not working properly, and updating drivers doesn't help.
Usb hot wiring the battery, gets everything working, but it's very dodgy.
Do you have any ideas? Is there a protected partition for charging (that is available on boot)? Could that get corrupted? And can it be reflashed?
Any help is very much appreciated
Thanks

So... I'm not saying issue was similar but it's close. I started having charging issues yadda yadda... plugged in saying charging, sometimes saying nothing. Battery drain was ridiculous. With the phone off, it's show as charging but once turned on after hours it would show half charged. I have three batteries and a bunch of charges all the same issue. I swapped out the USB from a broken GN I had and still the issue persisted. Eventually, I saved my data and swapped out the circuit board for the one on the broken phone and all is well. Every battery I placed in the phone was charged... I get a full charge yadda yadda. I'm not saying it's a similar issue but it's close. You might be able to find a broken GN (screen, no water damage) for cheap on ebay and do what I did... just a suggestion.
Can you charge through the pogo pins? If you can, I'd highly recommend doing the touchstone modification.
I've had issues when I'd enable fast charge on several kernels. If you're using a custom kernel, disable fast charge then connect to power.
